Jefferson Animal Hospital And Regional Emergency Center

Louisville, Kentucky
General Info
Jefferson Animal Hospital and Regional Emergency Center in Louisville initiates care through sensory calibration instead of medical chart review. The purpose involves preventing overstimulation while identifying tolerance signals early to help pets across Kentucky adjust gradually. The first interactions between beings frequently occur through nonverbal signals. Before conducting any hands-on examinations, the team deciphers tail position alongside spatial hesitation and micro-responses. Each room's lighting and scent levels can be adjusted to prevent startle reflexes from being triggered. The pet's intrinsic schedule dictates appointment times. A subset of practitioners initiates their examination with orthopedic assessments while others start with basic observational scans based on detected tension patterns. Jefferson Animal Hospital and Regional Emergency Center delivers diagnostic services along with laboratory work and illness intervention while providing orthopedic support plus dermatological care and oral health treatment for multiple species. Examinations might omit or rearrange steps when indicators such as lip licking, paw withdrawal, or gaze shifting appear. Experts evaluate pain indicators by examining an animal's posture and breathing patterns instead of relying solely on vocalizations—this method proves crucial for stoic breeds and prey-species animals. Following treatment re-acclimation is encouraged. Families receive detailed information about persistent behavioral responses alongside methods to detect secondary stress indicators and guidelines for prioritizing decompression over immediate activities. Home care plans now focus on customizing treatment based on a pet's sensory threshold instead of solely physical recovery benchmarks. Jefferson Animal Hospital and Regional Emergency Center delivers veterinary care to Kentucky homes through a unique approach that transcends clinical norms by engaging in quiet conversations deeply attuned to animals' signals of comfort, confusion, and calm.

Have always had great experiences at this clinic until today. Took my 13 1/2 year old dog in for bloodwork and to discuss some ongoing acute pain episodes. All that anyone wanted to discuss were vaccines. Not going to get any vaccines at his age! I would do titres if necessary, and at this same clinic 5 months ago, the vet didn't feel titres or vaccines were necessary under the circumstances. Completely different story today. The vet wouldn't even attempt to diagnose the acute pain issues because my dog is "13 years old, anyway." I ended up getting the bloodwork and titres, but apparently, the clinic had never done titres before. They didn't know where to get it done or how much to charge. ?? I had to wait an hour for them to find out. I also got x-rays because the vet felt a lump on my dog's side. He said the x-rays were fine. I had them sent to our therapeutic vet and our Florida vet, just to be sure. I was very disappointed that the very reason I came was dismissed so readily, and the implication is that a problem that is difficult to diagnose is not worth investigating because the dog is 13. Pain is worth investigating to me; that's why I was there and spent $500, even though we didn't get anywhere down the path of diagnosing the pain problem. Maybe it's just a difference in culture and there is not much call for excellent veterinary care and response for senior dogs in this area. But I would have hoped that this clinic would have welcomed the opportunity to help a senior dog whose owner wanted that help, even if it isn't a common request. Read Less

This place is nothing but a joke!!! All they care about is money, period!!! Took my baby there last night around midnight. He hadn’t acted right all day & as the night went on, he was worse. Rushed him to Jefferson Animal hospital, hoping for the best. He had 4 small (convulsing) seizures in the car on the way there. (He has a history of small seizures, but not convulsing ones). Once we got there, he started having a seizure. They sedated him & gave him seizure meds. The vet (Dr. Linda Sayre) came in to tell me what they had done & kept going on about prices. Prices to keep him overnight, prices for the meds & all that they had already given him. She was writing the prices down on a paper towel. She not ONCE asked what was wrong with him, or what had led up until this point. When I tried to explain that it wasn’t just from a seizure, she basically ignored me & told me yes it was. She left the room for me to “think about” what I wanted to do, as far as the price of letting him stay overnight, etc. (it was almost $1000 to have him stay overnight & I love my baby to death, however I do not have that kind of $). I asked if I could make payments, & was told NO, it had to be paid up front, before I ever even left. They brought him to me, still sedated & told me to take him home, & take him to his vet in the morning. I asked the vet, “is it normal for him to be like this right now?” Her response (with an attitude) "that's why we keep him in the hospital, because people go home & worry over everything, & they have a rough come out of this, so you're gonna have to harden your heart!" As if that wasn't enough already (since she knew I didn't have the $ to keep him overnight) she went out & came back in with discharge instructions. She then says to me "WHEN you get rich, get the teeth cleaned!" ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?! I'm extremely worried about my baby that I've had for 10 years (he would be 11 in October), & instead of focusing on his main issue, she's worried about his teeth!!!?? But not only comments on his teeth, has the nerve to say... "WHEN YOU GET RICH.. get the teeth cleaned." I brought my baby home, with instructions to give him pedialyte every 15mins once he woke up. & to follow up with our own vet. He slept on the couch with me from about 3am till 9am. Laid him down to go get dressed, came back & he was gone. 😢 he had quit breathing. Rushed him to our vet (knowing I was too late), but I wanted to be sure. Needless to say, it WAS too late. He had no heartbeat. I do not know; & will never know what caused this. However, I DO know that Jefferson Animal Hospital & Dr. Linda Sayre did not help, whatsoever!!! They were too worried about getting themselves "RICH" rather than worrying about my fur baby. The trip there was a 40min Drive for me, 40mins there, 40mins back. The short time we were in there, it cost me $271.60. $271.60.. for them to tell me "when you get RICH, get the teeth cleaned". I'm not worried about the money.. $ can be replaced. & if I would've been "RICH" I would've given them every dime I had, to keep him alive. I do have the conversation between Dr. Linda Sayre & I recorded. Even the part where she tells me "when u get rich, have the teeth cleaned". Not sure if anything can be done with it, however if I knew the right person to go to, I would give them the recording & demand answers & some sort of punishment for Dr. Linda Sayre. Although, she would probably pay her way out of it, as I'm sure SHES "RICH" & her dogs teeth are probably sparkling clean. Moral of my story.. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FUR BABIES TO JEFFERSON COUNTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL, on Outerloop.. ESPECIALLY if you're not "RICH"!!! Read Less

They took excellent care of not only our dog, but with us. It was 12 at night and we were placed in a nice room. Sarah E.A. mentioned water being in the mini fridge if we needed something. She was so sweet with him whenever she took him to the back. She gave us pee pads for our dog Rascal, a leash when we didn't have time to grab our own, and even diapers for the time at home with him. I have called with a few questions on his meds and they gave me the answers. Our doctor was helpful telling us what our options were and how much things would cost. She was not worried about making money, she wanted us to do what we could. When we decided to go with home care, we were told what the meds to, we were provided with times to give the meds, and what they did and how much. The labels on the bottles said the times along with a paper. Again, just super helpful. If you ever need emergency care, I highly recommend them. Not only did our dog get better, but they worked with us. We spent around $300 and $116 was the majority of the cost to just get him in and seen without an appointment. The rest were meds and a test we wanted done. I would do it all over again. Read Less

I had to Euthanize my 16 year old cat, on Easter Sunday. It was heart wrenching. I took him to Jefferson Animal Hospital. That was the best part of a terrible situation. First, it's a pretty place. I was crying and the young lady at the front desk, reassured me. She put me in a nice room and told me to spend as much time as I needed to say goodbye. When I was ready, the Doctor came in to discuss everything. She gently explained the procedure and told me she had a cat with the same issue and had to make the hard decision herself. I wouldn't hesitate to bring an animal here, for any reason. Thank you for making this a little easier. Dr. Moliere, Thank you. Read Less

We took our 9 year old cat to the hospital because he wasn't acting like himself and we were worried that something was wrong with him. He had recently had a blockage in his bladder and had to have surgery. The vet there was very nice. I never caught her name but she explained everything very well and was kind. When we found out something was wrong with his kidneys we had 2 options. Put him down or try to save him. The vet said she thought it would be best to put him down because he was very sluggish and not acting like himself. I felt like she really emphasized with us. We choose to put him down because we didn't want him to suffer. I'm sad he is gone but Jefferson Animal Hospital did a great job at taking care of Charlie and the vet there was wonderful. TL;DR -- a kind, compassionate, talented staff and the resources to back up those qualifications. It's been a horrible month. Earlier we had to stop in with our oldest, Gabby a polydactyl tortie who was right at 20 years old. A brilliant, impish troublemaker who had been in decline for a while due to renal failure and while we knew he time was coming, it didn't make it easier. Dr. Sayre oversaw the procedure and helped make Gabby's last minutes as peaceful as possible and showed compassion to us as we made our peace. Fast forward to this past week when another beloved cat, Pele, who'd became my father in law's confidant in a period of grieving and also in the 19-20 year old range was felled by apparently a saddle thrombus or paraplegia. Pele was a particular soul, named for the soccer player (an early kibble incident while searching for a name). Would let you live on him until he'd had enough and then he'd remind you his name was also that of a volcano goddess. So, heartbreak had descended on the household and we had begun dealing with the grief when our youngest, Hera, a nine year old torty started displaying similar symptoms to Gabby. We had a visit with another vet who discovered a bladder infection and sent us home with antibiotics. It became quickly obvious that even with the antibiotics, she wasn't improving. She was very lethargic and while she displayed an interest in food and water, she couldn't find it in her to eat or drink. As this strongly resembled Gabby's last days, and unexpectedly at that, we had begun the preparation for the shattering that seemed to have begun. We took her Sunday evening into JAH, started with Dr. Greer, who quickly agreed that she should be hospitalized and we went home preparing for the worse. Turns out, she's got pancreatitis, which, while quite painful, is curable. So she's been there l, treated by Dr. Isherwood, Dr. Dorn, and the whole amazing staff with more meds, and will be coming home today with an esophageal feeding tube so we can tube feed her at home while she continues to improve and gets back to her normal mountain goat self. Thank you all for being amazing! Read Less

I will never take my dog back here again. He was misdiagnosed by a new veterinarian who dismissed every symptom of his that I brought to her attention. Half of the symptoms she told me she had "never seen before." She never even did a full exam or blood work, she went straight to the x-rays which she said were all "clear." Well, I took those x-rays somewhere else where they did a full exam and blood work, I explained my dog's symptoms, and was told he had meningitis! Jefferson Animal Hospital told me it was either kennel cough or pneumonia, she couldn't say and just prescribed him Amoxicillin and sent us home. His health declined even more and I took him back to Jefferson, only to get the same inexperienced vet who simply switched his medication without examining him or anything. My dog lost almost 5lbs within the two visits at Jefferson Animal Hospital (which was four days) and she told me she "wouldn't worry about it." I am so glad for his third visit I went somewhere else. He had to be hospitalized for two nights and is on five mediciations, including steroids that he'll have to take for the next 2+ months. I absolutely do NOT recommend Jefferson to anyone. But if it's an absolute last resort, make sure your vet is not Summer Dorn. She is too inexperienced to be working alone. Read Less

A horrible, uncompassionate place. Do not take your pet here if you want them to live, or if you want to be treated properly. Had a cat with a blocked bladder, was told the told the price would be at least $1500 just for the first 24 hours, and they recommended he stays 3-4 days, then proceeded to act like paying $4000 was pocket change. Dr. Greer showed absolutely no compassion towards my cat or myself. It astonishes me that people who work with animals everyday cannot act the least bit compassionate towards the situation. Overall, I feel as if I have been conned by this hospital. We paid $500 to have him unblocked, and now he seems to be even worse than before. Do not go to these horrible, uncaring, people. Took my cat there because he was having difficulties going to the bathroom. Which during growing up I have had several cats and the symptoms my cat was having was the same as the others had that had a urinary track infection. It was a Saturday night and my vet office was closed. So I took him to Jefferson Animal Clinic on Outerloop, they said they would have to keep him overnight and run test on him which ok, maybe it's not a urinary track infection. I get a call the next day saying that he's dehydrated they are having to feed him fluids and they might have to run a couple more test but we need to keep him and observe him a couple days. Short end of the story... had him for four days. I go to pick him up told me was a urinary track infection! The bill of $900!!!! I called my vet and read him off the paperwork as to what they said they did and he could not believe it, he said that's a $15 medicine. Which was what I've always had to give any cat of mine that had urinary track infection. And it wasn't as though my cat had been doing this for weeks or even days. Also was telling people at my office and two people said they had same kind of issues with that office, keeping them overnight and then charging them outrageous fee for something that shouldn't even of cost that much. And same thing talked with the regular vet and was told the same thing should've never cost that, no reason to keep them overnight. Do Not take your animals there!!! Only positive about this place is they are open 24 hours, other than that stay away! We took our dog there around 9pm on a Sunday because he was having some mobility issues in his hind legs; He's not very vocal normally, but he was whining so we knew something was wrong. We got into a room in about 20 min, however there was no sense of urgency in the staff at all. The vet who came in was rude and short with everything she said to us, it was obvious she didn't want to spend any time answering our questions. She condescendingly claimed our dog may have IVDD and a double ear infection that had been "there for quite a while." (Funny that our regular vet didn't mention the long-time ear infection when we had taken him for his check up at the end of September.) The late night visit alone was $95, understandable I suppose. My qualm is that they sent us home with over $150 worth of vitamins and muscle relaxers - and nothing to treat his "long time ear infection" - that our regular vet stated would not help ease his pain. This place does not care for the safety or health of your pet; This office is only out to take advantage of concerned pet parents and take their money. Avoid visiting here if at all possible. I have two dogs, and they are well taken care of at JAH. We chose JAH for several reasons, the most important being that they are an emergency - equipped facility, and that gives me peace of mind. I've read some other reviews, and a lot of them seem to focus mainly on pricing, but I find them reasonably priced for the services they offer. They inform us of prices before they do any procedures, and they are honest about what procedures need to be done, and what procedures can wait. They don't seem money hungry at all to me. They are genuinely concerned for my fur babies and they take time to answer questions in an easy to understand way. My only regret is that we didn't start going to JAH sooner! I would highly recommend them to anyone. Read Less

Diesel is a challenging boy who is very dog aggressive, making vet visits very stressful for both Deez and Momma. His previous vets office did not offer appointments and the wait was always horrific no matter what time of day you attempted to go. Diesel developed a raging ear infection last winter late at night on a weekend and I wasn't going to make him wait for his vet to open to get some relief so we headed to Jefferson Animal on Outer Loop at 7 am on a Saturday. When we walked in the girl at the desk asked if we had an appointment, I replied "you take early Saturday morning appointments?" She said appointments started at 8 but some people show up early. Long story short, Diesel is now a permanent patient at Jefferson Animal, they are all very good with him, and it's much less stressful for the both of us having the 8 am appointment on Saturday mornings...we were in and out in 30 minutes yesterday for his annual health screen, vaccinations and a nail trim. It's a bit more expensive than his previous vets office, but the ability to set an appointment, avoiding the stress of running into other dogs, and the added bonus of every person on staff who has dealt with Diesel being very good with him makes the added expense worth it for us. Momma and Deez give the Outer Loop office and office staff two paws up and five stars :)Read Less

I brought my 2.5 yr old cat with no prior health issues here to be treated for crystals. The vet said the worst case scenario was after treatment, crystals would continue to be a problem and he may need to be put down due to the pain. The vet never mentioned that the treatment itself would be risky. My cat died in guessing around 8 hours after I brought him in.I was still charged 80% of what they had told me the cost would be for the treatment. I'm obviously extremely unhappy with my first and only experience with Jefferson Animal Hospital. However, I don't want to discourage people from taking their pets to see a vet when they need emergency treatment, so I'm adding 1 star to my original review and I would just recommend that you ask the vet more questions about the procedure before your pet is treated here. I've had the most fantastic experience with this animal hospital! We had a pet emergency late in the evening; it was so well received. We nearly lost our little one (106 degree temp), so we rushed over. We called ahead of time, and they took him back immediately to reduce his temp. The facility is clean, open, well lit, and welcoming. The employees? Love Them. I've called back after bringing our guy home and they've given us advice and listening ears. They work hard and they're kind. That's an incredible set of qualities. I'm very, very impressed. Plus, it's great to know we have a hospital we trust for our furry ones. If you need a hospital, I wish your animals well. This is a place you can trust in a time of need. Best to you and your furry ones! Read Less

The good: They are open 24 hours a day, so if you have an emergency you are sure to be able to get your pet in to see someone immediately and get care. The bad: Although friendly and sympathetic (and I'm sure it is easy to lose sympathy after a while), I was not impressed with the results following treatment.  I have a very clumsy cat who fell and sliced herself open in two spots; her leg and her nether regions.  After reconnecting a tendon and sewing up a very complicated area, the staff did not think to include pain medication until I asked about it.  After taking her to my vet to have the bandage swapped, it was discovered that the antibiotic contained a sedative and the pain killer was meant for dogs and did nothing for cats.  Furthermore, and how do I put this gently, they sewed her pee hole shut.  That's kind of serious.  While I would definitely use them again if there were a late night emergency since there are no other 24 hour clinics in the area, I would recommend getting your pet to your normal vet soon afterward. Jefferson Animal Hospital And Regional Emergency Center

Louisville, Kentucky
(36)

Read Less

I was crying and the young lady at the front desk, reassured me. She put me in a nice room and told me to spend as much time as I needed to say goodbye.

Read Less

Overall, I feel as if I have been conned by this hospital. We paid $500 to have him unblocked, and now he seems to be even worse than before. Do not go to these horrible, uncaring, people. They charged me an arm and a leg for bringing my dog in the first day. He's having trouble walking - 5 years old. They tell me to bring him in the next morning for an x-ray and they wouldn't charge me another consultation fee. I bring him in and they changed their mind, don't want to do the x-ray say that we need to pay 3-5k for an MRI instead. I tell them we can't swing that, so they tell us that all we can do then is put him down because "if we don't even have enough money for that, we should probably just put him down"....On top of that because they changed their mind about needing the x-ray - threw that consultation fee back on bill along with a charge for seeing a doctor who was "off the clock". Of course we could have never known that, nor would we have brought him back if they hadn't told us to. Word to the wise - be careful with this place. Read Less

I have not given it a thought until now and I will say. I knew going in my baby boy needed to be put down. His back was broke & he was suffering. My selfishness took me here( holding out for a chance) They seized upon this to jack a bill up. Playing on people's emotional attachments to their babies is just wrong! $504.00 (for an xray that wasnt needed at all) anyone could've seen the break with a glance & the blood coming out his ass. To put him down & xray seems quite excessive to me. Staff was friendly enough to refer someone if not for the billing or business practices. I will say they are very lucky my heart was crushed or they would have got an earful about it!! Wrong! Read Less

We are from Elizabethtown and took our cat in about 1030pm. They immediately took her back to assess her. The Dr came out and spoke to us and was very kind. She explained the seriousness of our babys illness and showed us xrays. After sharing her diagnosis, we decided that it was in our girls best intetest to put her to sleep. My husband and I were very distraught and were allowed to say our goodbyes privately. We were treated with respect and were very pleased with the service we received. Thank you very much!! My Vet was very caring my dog Jack....but not only to him but to me as well ...she knew what Jack meant to me and made my baby feel much better ...Not happy with the pricing at all.....some times I feel like this place takes advantage of people because they know the state of mind we are in and how fragile we are about saving our babies. The staff themselves are great people but the Business and Business owners I feel prey on the fact knowing the options we have and the fact that we are in the worse frame of mind and basically Rape us knowing that. After they helped care for my baby they then proceeded to tell me that it would cost 1700 to extract a few teeth and do xrays on my fur baby....I mean seriously people ...for that kind of money I can have a whole brand new set of teeth. I feel the owners are crooked and know there isnt much we can do ...but the staff is very professional and the care they did for my fur baby was great.Read Less

Will never ever take my animal to there and will forever warn people about this place!Read Less

Had to bring our girl in for an emergency visit because of labor complications. I was apprehensive after reading the bad reviews. My dog is more than just a part of our family she's my unofficial therapy dog(I'm a veteran diagnosed with PTSD/depression). I was worried about price being this close to Christmas, but ready and willing to spend whatever to make sure my girl was okay. Dr. Critchlow was very understanding. Took care of Karma and ensured us that her problems weren't life threatening. He even suggested we take her to her regular vet since the same procedure would likely be much less expensive there. I left feeling much better about the situation. I don't understand some of the reviews saying that they're gouging prices. I can't put a price on any of my family members, 2 or 4 legged. Thank you Jefferson Animal Hospital. And our Karma girl thanks you too.Read Less

Visited this clinic once, and that was too many times. My dog had, and still has, a raw spot on her flank. The "doctor" said it was cancerous and gave her a shot to be followed upon with many more. In the interim we showed a friend (a veterinary receptionist), the spot who immediately said it's nothing more than a cebasius cyst, common in all older breeds like ours. Our pet is still suffering from the results of the shot she was given.I can't speak for the other veterinarians at this clinic, but you're rolling the dice if you go here.
