I had a guinea pig for about 5 years. She died 2 years ago. This is the only vet I have ever used. When I took her there because she was itching so badly, not eating and losing fur, the vet found she had mites( probably from her bedding we used at the time), he medicated her and she never had any more mites. When she was older, she decided to eat the clasp off a necklace I was wearing! The vet took her in right away. When Bibi died, the vet actually cried. I now have a goldendoodle (as of yesterday). I LOVE these guys! I have had three fur babies I've taken there over the years. You could not possibly ask for a more caring, loving, sympathetic and professional group of people; from the receptionist, to the med tech, to Dr. Fulkerson, and actually especially Dr. Fulkerson. She respects my love for my dogs and even refers to them as "kids." My poor babies have struggled with diabetes and cancer. They got so much tender loving care from the group at Stony Brook Animal Hospital, that it eased all of our pain. I took one of my snakes here for a simple respiratory infection and was less than satisfied with the experience. Granted, I didn't have an appointment so I left my snake there overnight. I still expected him to be taken care of, and was sadly disappointed. He soiled his enclosure and the water bowl spilled, soaking his paper towel, and was left to sit in it all night when he was already sick. He was also put on a broad spectrum antibiotic that didn't work. The woman who worked at the counter at the time (around April 2016) was also rude. You'd expect the first face you see at any establishment would be friendly, but she alone made me want to turn around and take my snake elsewhere. She was rude both when I dropped him off and picked him back up, and it was obvious she didn't care. The only positive thing I have to say about this place is that the facility itself looks nice and the vet tech that I talked to was more than helpful. I just wish the rest of the faculty cared that much. Read Less

Took my poor itchy baby in here for the first time this past friday and they are amazing! The vet we use to go to did nothing to help my poor angel that was suffering from major skin allergies. But the vet here was able to and he's already feeling much better. Even though my old vet is only 5 min away and this one is 30 min, we will be going no where but here from now on!!! Read Less

My poor kitty was rushed there this afternoon after having a seizure.  I was unable to go as I was out of town for work so my hubby had to.  They treated my Vinnie Kitty so well and also were empathetic to my hubby who was visibly sad and upset.  These vets have a general mentality of quality of quantity of life.  Needless to say Dr. Faulkerson and her team took such good care of Vinnie.  I have been going to these guys for a few years and they are definitely work the drive if you don't live close.  This team doesn't work on animals just for work, they work to genuinely care for your animals.Highly Recommended,Jamie Read Less

I have been taking my 2 dogs here for several years.  I noticed the previous post mentioned price, but I wouldn't know any better as I haven't taken them anywhere else.  I can't put a price tag on the care of my kids.  Yes, kids and that's what Dr. Laura refers to them as well.  She is so patient and so good with them.  I also love that I never feel rushed like she has other pressing matters to attend to.  She gives you her undivided attention, asks and answers questions and takes her time.  If you are reading this and you want someone to appreciate and understand the love that you have for your pets, then you need to come here and see Dr. Laura Fulkerson. I took my dog here for her yearly checkup, vaccines, and meds after reading good online reviews. The staff was knowledgable, kind, and helpful. They encouraged me to start giving my dog more preventative meds without being pushy about it. They answered any questions I had and advised me of warning signs I should look for. A few months later when I found a tape-worm segment, they quickly got some meds ready to treat my dog. I think that this place may cost a little more than some vets and it's kind of a drive from my house, but I was so pleased with the quality of care and service that I will keep coming back here. My dog suffered with hemotoma's in his ears and severe ear infections for 3 years until I changed to Stony Brook. They cleared up the most recent hemotoma without sending him home with drains and cleared up the entire infection. Poor baby's ear drum in one ear had already burst and the other had to be burst to remove infection behind it. He no longer whimpers and scratches at his ears and no longer shakes his head to the point of bursting blood vessels. The entire staff is wonderful and Dr. Laura Fulkerson is fantastic!
