We have been using Dr. Mitchell since around 1999, and he's just the absolute best. He's great with animals, as you'd expect, and friendly with us and our kids. He explains things completely and patiently and handles all questions. He's punctual with his appointments. His office staff is always highly professional. When we have had to put a pet down, he was extremely kind and compassionate, giving us all the time and space we needed with our pet. His prices are fair, and he does price matching on medicines. So if you can, for instance, find heart worm medicine cheaper at Costco, bring in the ad, and they will match the price.

I took my dog in because he kept shaking his ears. They prescribed an ear drop called Otomax. I noticed my dog seemed to have some hearing loss, so I took him back in was told "The medicine could have caused it", which the vet never mentioned. His response was "Well any anti-biotic in the ear could cause that to happen", as if I was supposed to know it. He claimed it was a "one in a million chance"...except that a quick google search turned up all kinds of articles about the drug causing hearing loss. Next time, I will go home and research any medication before administering, but I trusted my vet. Do not take your animal here

I absolutely LOVE this place. Everyone who works there is so friendly and amazing and Dr. Mitchell is a man who truly cares about the animals and NOT the price. He will always take care of your animals and work with you on the cost if need be. I have 4 dogs and I wouldn't trust anyone else in this city with their care. I couldn't recommend him any higher, and this is coming from someone who is extremely picky and careful about their animal's care.

I could not sing better praises about Dr. Mitchell and the Westport Animal Hospital staff! I recently moved to Louisville and had been shopping around for vets when my puppy hurt his leg. I ended up taking my puppy to Dr. Mitchell for a second opinion. He told me to bring him in on a Monday for X-rays. They open at 8am and I told Dr. Mitchell that I had to leave for work at 7am and it was a new job so I didn't want to be late. He made special arrangements for me to drop my puppy off at 6:30am and made me feel 100% comfortable with leaving him there!! He made sure to explain everything to me and gave me an estimate of how much everything would cost so I would be prepared. Needless to say I have found my vet!

Amazing people, even more amazing pricing. They don't "gouge". My cat would have died, I think and they kept her for 4 days. Thought the bill would be more than it was, but I still didn't have it all...

Thought the bill would be more than it was, but I still didn't have it all, at the time. They worked with me. I payed the balance when I promised, and was happy to do so. My 15-year-old cat is back to her younger-than-self. Love these people!
UPDATE:
Stopped in, for flea meds for my rescue doggies, (who are also taken care of there), and they remembered my cat, asked how she is doing! (She is doing extremely well!!)

I have never met a kinder, gentler, more good-hearted vet in my life. His office staff is always friendly, prices are more than reasonable and they will bend over backwards to accommodate you and your fur babies. You can tell their hearts are in the right place from the moment you walk in the door. Westport Animal and Dr. Mitchell have my business for as long as I'm in Louisville! If you don't have a regular vet in the area or looking to switch, give them as shot. You will not be disappointed!

I am so glad I found Dr Mitchell and his staff. They get you in and out quickly, while at the same time, providing detailed care for your animal. I feel that Dr. Mitchell addresses all of my concerns and makes sure my dog is in good health. I also really like that they don't try to add on or sell me a bunch of extras. This is one of the only vets that I've been to where I don't feel like I am getting overcharged. I've been going here for about a year and half and plan on continuing!

After reading all of these great reviews about Dr. Mitchell, we decided to try him as our new vet. On the day we first contacted the Westport Animal Hospital staff about our concern of our kitten Octavious being critically sick, they told us we should bring him in as soon as possible (almost immediate since they knew how ill he may be from our description). They were courteous and service was very prompt and extremely comforting for our dear kitten and for us. Dr Mitchell was very friendly, thorough, compassionate and thoughtful with our pet. Though he had bad news to tell us about our sweet kitten, he was very compassionate and straight forward in doing so. He told us exactly what was needed and nothing more or less. We appreciated very much of his care for our Octavious. We will recommend him to any loving pet owner.

Dr.Mitchell is fantastic. He actually cares and sits down and listens to the pet owner. He was very thorough in checking my dog out. After the main issue was resolved he asked "what else" and took care of a lesser issue and didn't even charge me for it.My dog is up in years but I will not take her anywhere else. Extremely reasonable prices (and I'm cheap), very friendly staff, and 2 good locations. I highly reccomend this vet. If you're reading this Dr.M, thanks for taking care of Casey after she was attacked by a pit bull. She's doing better now.

Dr. Mitchell and his staff are outstanding!!! He listened to my concerns and was incredibly gentle with my very nervous Shar-Pei. My pooch and I are grateful to his team for being so warm and welcoming in our time of need. I highly recommend them to anyone with a sick pet.

After reading all of these great reviews about Dr. Mitchell, we decided to try him as our new vet. On the day we first contacted the Westport Animal Hospital staff about our concern of our kitten Octavious being critically sick, they told us we should bring him in as soon as possible (almost immediate since they knew how ill he may be from our description). They were courteous and service was very prompt and extremely comforting for our dear kitten and for us. Dr Mitchell was very friendly, thorough, compassionate and thoughtful with our pet. Though he had bad news to tell us about our sweet kitten, he was very compassionate and straight forward in doing so. He told us exactly what was needed and nothing more or less. We appreciated very much of his care for our Octavious. We will recommend him to any loving pet owner.

Dr.Mitchell is fantastic. He actually cares and sits down and listens to the pet owner. He was very thorough in checking my dog out. After the main issue was resolved he asked "what else" and took care of a lesser issue and didn't even charge me for it.My dog is up in years but I will not take her anywhere else. Extremely reasonable prices (and I'm cheap), very friendly staff, and 2 good locations. I highly reccomend this vet. If you're reading this Dr.M, thanks for taking care of Casey after she was attacked by a pit bull. She's doing better now.
