I have been taking my animals here for years, and continue to take my pets here since I moved to Shelby County. My husband also transferred his dog to this clinic after seeing the level of care they provide. Over the years, the 2-legged angels at Mt. Washington Animal Clinic have treated puppies, kittens, hit-by-cars (canine AND goose), a stray cat who had her tail blown off by some a** with fireworks and no soul. Every member of the staff is 110% dedicated to the best possible outcome for any patient at all times. Because of their dedication, focus, honesty, and huge hearts, sometimes they may come across as terse or not focused on you. That's absolutely accurate. If you went to a human doctor, would you want him/her to focus on the Pomeranian in your purse? The receptionist and vet techs are so compassionate and often the first to follow up (makes sense, they're the first people to address your fur family's issue). Every vet has treated my animals with compassion, honesty, and alacrity. For me, the honesty is the most important part. As much as it hurts to hear your dog has cancer, it hurts the vet to tell you. Being able to ask Dr. Albert questions and get honest answers that were respectful of my dog first and me second helped me keep perspective and do what was best for my baby. Hearing from Dr. Rhinehart that my cat's odds of survival were slim to none, followed by her suggestions of how we could help him together, kept me from falling into despair. Watching Dr. Cecil whisper consolations while he catheterized my dog, witnessing his empathy, put both of us at ease. And the goose? Well, Dr. Albert fully invests in all her patients, from the time she sees them until they leave this earth. The people at this clinic inspire me. They give animals a voice and they are never afraid to do the right thing. Because of my interactions here, I have become a better pet owner and animal advocate. Read Less

To start the lady at the front desk was very nice. Responded to us quickly once she finished with the other client and got us in our room. We sat in the appt room waiting to be seen and a vet tech entered (never introduced her self, but no big deal) asked a couple questions that needed to be asked. A few moments later the "vet" came in (never introduced herself either which was a deal to me if you're being incharge). Leaning over our 17 year old short hair cat talking to us asking what's been going on and we explained in great details exactly what happened. She stated that she wants to draw blood for testing which is fine. We tell her that he is a very grumpy and old cat and doesn't like people approaching his tail. She starts shaving our cats neck like normal, but oddly she starts taking blood infront of us not even asking if we'd like to be in the room or not. Cat is flipping out and the vet tech holding him was not securely holding him and he spun around to try and attack. We grab our cat and he starts calming down instantly, but were told "don't touch him let him go". Uh, no we got him calm and held which you couldn't. So now the vet goes for the thigh which is ok also. They put a cone around his neck for safety which is fine. Vet tech still not holding our cat firmly at all and he gets loose again going wild. Stressed to the max, screeming, hissing, fighting, scared... we grab him cover his head with their towl and he starts to calm down. They say they have plently of blood for test and leave. Our cats neck and thigh is still bleeding and nobody cleaned or applied a gauze with ace bandage to stop blood. I personally had to use their stuff to clean my cat and their table because of the blood. My hands were painted with his blood. 10-12min later test results are back. She says internals are great, but never shows us. So we took the chart after she left and looked at the results ourselves. They come back in to give him 100ml of sub q fluid for hydration. I looked at the bag before and after injection and he was given maybe 50ml. Vet returns asking if we want x rays and we just want to leave by now. She instantly says we will have to sedate him not even giving us a option of a tech wearing x ray safety gloves and holding him. No, not sedating my 17yr old cat. We take our fluids ready to leave knowing we will alread be force feeding our baby. "Vet" tells us we would have to force feed, but we tell her yes we planned this already, but she doesn't offer any type of food that we should give him or anything. Worse experience I've ever had at a vet. We only came here because it was close to the house and we had the emergency and wanted to get seen instantly. The "Vet" we had was very unprofessional and we will never recommend or return to this vet for anything what so ever. We will continue to travel to Louisville for our vet for everything. If there ever is an emergency we will go else where if unable to make it to our regular vet. Prices are cheap, but there seemed to be no compassion from the "vet", unprofessional, noncaring, and if you want your animals blood on your hands come here. Other wise. Spend the money and go to a vet the will care for your family member. Read Less

If your dog or pet needs you near to comfort them while they get shots, etc to keep them from having extreme anxiety, go somewhere else. I was told I "wasn't trained to hold a dog" when I knew my dog was going to lose it and had to sit across the room and watch him go through extreme (no exaggeration here) stress while getting his one year shots. Two of the vet techs out of the four were friendly while the vet was pompous and arrogant and talked to me like an ignorant child. Unwelcoming place, your pet will probably feel the same. Read Less

Our dog has been going to the Mt Washington Animal Clinic her entire life (14 years). She has been well taken care of. The staff and Veterinarians are very professional and loving to the animals. The recommendations that they make are that, recommendations. I have NEVER had them insist on anything. If anyone knew them, they would know that they are not that way. I do believe that telling you that you have a fat dog is part of the profession. Maybe saving your dog from problems down the road and a reason why blood work would be recommended. In addition, no matter what it is in life, if you don't know the cost you should ask. I think that is your responsibility. I find it funny to blame someone else for you getting your dog fat and not asking about prices. My dog would eat the whole bag if you let her. We do not. When we have a procedure done, we ask about prices. That holds true for getting my house roofed, yard mowed, teeth cleaned or a trip to the vet. Blaming your naivety on them is, well, being naive. After loosing my mother, I took in her 10 year old female Lhasa Apso; I have a male dog and my moms dog was intact. I was so apprehensive about having her Spayed due to her age, but Dr. Reinhart assured me, and did an amazing job with her. She even took Sasha home with her the night of surgery to be sure she was able to maintain the IV fluids and pain meds overnight. I have always used this Office and even now after recently moving 20+ miles away, we will continue to keep them as our vets! Love them!!! Read Less

Mt Washington animal clinic is fantastic. My pup needed surgery after he swallowed something and it got stuck in his intestines. The emergency afterhours clinic in Louisville where about 3 times more expensive so we called the Mt Washington animal clinic and they were able to fix my pup right up after hours. Dr. Reinhart took him home with her and kept an eye on him until he was able to come home and called and checked on him after he was home as well. I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. Read Less

I've been there with a sick kitty twice in the past month. Both the office staff and the veterinarians we saw were the BEST. Both Alli and Jean are great at answering my questions over the phone when I've called. We have seen Dr Albert and Dr Reinhart and couldn't be happier with their care. We especially appreciated Dr Reinhart taking plenty of time to talk and answer questions without at all seeming rushed. These people truly seem to enjoy their work and it's obvious they are animal lovers. Prices have also been extremely reasonable. Keep up the good work everyone! Read Less

Thank you so much Dr. Cecil, Jean, and everyone of the fantastic staff for saving my baby over the weekend. You guys could have sent me to an after hours clinic and instead stayed late for my baby.

Read Less

I took my dog Diggy here when my usual vet was closed.  He was very sick and had not ate in 2 days. They really took the time to explain things to me, told me cost before they did anything. They even were willing to work out a payment plan with me because it was a larger amount and very unexpected.  The vet there is the sweetest lady, aside from my grandmother,  that I've ever met. Had my dog neutered and instead of coming home that day for the simple procedure I was told there was a complication. My wife felt like she was getting the run around. The other time I had been there I tok my older lab. They said he was fat and insisted I get all kinds of blood work done. They didn't inform me of the cost until it was already complete and I had my credit card pulled out. And guess what they found out. He just eats a lot and is fat. Read Less
