Front desk staff doesn’t know how to prioritize at all. Our dog was very sick and peed on the floor when we arrived and instead of finishing the check in process so my dog could be seen she goes hunting for a mop to clean up the pee while my dog is clearly in respiratory distress. I was appalled and even clean up the pee myself to get her to be seen quicker. She later needed to be euthanized. They were all very caring during that time and the doctors were very knowledgable. We tried to pay before leaving that night and they said no worries we will call you with the final bill tomorrow. Then an hour after we arrived home we get a phone call from a lady acting like we were trying to not pay or something and wanted our cc info over the phone to settle the bill. I didn’t appreciate being treated like a criminal after she was the one that refused our payment at the desk just an hour before. Read Less

I brought my cat for an emergency visit one night. Long story short, the front desk staff was great, and the cost was about what I would have paid at my regular vet. However, the doctor was terrible. He was irritated that my cat was "aggressive" which to be honest, would you be happy getting an enema? They had to sedate him - ok that's fine, my regular vet does this too (it's reoccurring issue with the cat) and it's no big deal yet he went out of his way to make me feel bad that my cat was in pain and distressed and how much of an issue it was for him to work on my cat. I had to remind him to show me the xray of him, and they refused to keep him overnight. The nurse wasn't bad, but I could tell she didn't care to work with this doctor. Who by the way won't make eye contact when he talks to you either. He's not an animal person.. Who goes around getting mad at parrots for talking and making bird sounds? Read Less

5-18-2018 cat with potential dislocation I had to put down my Cat today at this clinic. Or rather my fiancé had to put down our cat at this clinic alone. An awful experience as it is already to lose a loved one, I feel exploited. Here is why... The cat had injured itself to the point he couldn’t walk on his paw. He could hobble around on 3 but any pressure on his leg caused intense pain. We were thinking dislocation as no loud noise was made or really anything to imply worse just before we noticed. They examined the cat, immediately administered drugs, took him to X-rays, then gave the options of : amputate, perform a 50/50 surgery if we found a specialist even willing, or do nothing all option led back to arthritis forming and amputation just to save his life. Call us awful if you wish but given these choices we felt it best to put him down since every single option given led to death. I am not a vet but was informed in cats arthritis and amputation could both lead to some form of lethargic behavior where the cat just gives up basically. So ultimately the break down was $600 to kill off our own family member (at this point now that they had treated him partially) or pay 4500 to have a strong chance of him dieing a long miserable death over the next several months. I loved him and so did my fiancé. So to pay $600 we didn’t have to lose our baby was possible the most sick thing I’ve had to do in a long time. Read Less

We have taken 2 of our 4 dogs in for emergencies, and the entire staff was wonderful both times. Dr. Bruner and especially Dr. Hodge took excellent care of Wiley when she needed major surgery for a splenic tumor (our regular vet Dr. Bob at Plum St. Pet Clinic recommended them), and Dr. Krawec was great with our 18 year old Wilma last night when we thought she had broken a leg (happily it was not broken). The facility/kennel is clean and well maintained and the staff was happy to show us around all areas before we left Wiley there for her surgery. Wiley was actually excited to go back and visit the staff for her post-surgery follow-ups, she had no fear : ) I have full confidence in the staff and doctors and appreciate their care and obvious love for animals. It is a 24 hour Emergency room for your animals, so it's expected. Don't like to pay those prices , but my animals are like my kids..Brought in my dog because her leg swollen about 4 times regular size . My normal veterinarian comes to my home because we have 5 animals so he gives all shots , etc at one time. ,But he usually takes a few days before he gets here if not longer. I felt she needed to get this taken care of today because it's obviously infection of some sort. That's only reason I came here. Dog is getting x-ray and blood work at this moment. This is a heartless veterinarian practice as shown by the majority of reviews on this site. They advertise Emergency Services but it is not actually the case. Although it is not posted anywhere on any of their signs, they only provide Emergency Services after 6pm. My cat was a patient there and I am a doctor. I found my cat in respiratory distress at 10 am on a Tuesday. I wrapped him in a blanket and rushed him there. Unfortunately I had to make the hardest choice an owner has to make, it was very obviously time. They said they were too busy and turned us away. I was in utter shock. They prolonged his suffering and we should all ban together to spread the word and shut them down. They obviously just have Emergency Services on their sign as an advertising ploy to make money. As several others here have stated that's what they care about, not animals. They prolonged his suffering and should not be practicing! I have had pets my whole life and moved around a lot for work. Never have I experienced such indifference to an animals wellbeing! I believe after reading their Facebook reviews this type of behavior has been taking place since 2011 at least. If we all ban together we can put a stop to it. I have set up an email in Santiago's honor: [email protected]. The Google reviews unfortunately more horrible treatment of animals. Turning away good samaritans with injured strays they found for starters. Read Less

Our hamster has a lump on her belly. We called them and they said, "Yea, sure, we see hamsters. No problem. Bring her in on The 4th of July, we're open all day!" Well we get there and the lady at the service desk ask us what's going on. As soon as my mom starts to tell her, she grabs the phone and starts talking to someone on the phone. Then, we start to tell her what's going on, and as soon as my mom says the word "hamster" she cuts my mom off and says, "We dont see hamsters." Well then why did you tell us you did on the phone? The receptionist then proceeded to refer to our hamster as "it." As if she doesn't even matter. So, she says she can ask the vet, but he might say no. Well, the vet says he can look at her, but he might not be able to treat her. Oh, and even if he can't treat her, we still have to pay $90.00 just or him looking at her, even if he doesn't do anything. Another fact they neglected to tell us on the phone. Needless to say, we left. Do not take your animals to this place. They're so incredibly rude, and ridiculously expensive. Very unprofessional, just genuinely don't see to care. Read Less

I have a 7 year old German Shepherd. After suspecting that he needed ACL surgery, we were referred to Dr. Hodge by our vet. I was very nervous and worried going into our first appointment as we have never been anywhere but our normal vet. First of all, the staff was great. The ladies working the front desk were very sweet and made us feel welcome. The vet techs that work with Dr. Hodge were so friendly and great with my dog putting us both at ease. And Dr. Hodge herself was fantastic. She listened to us, was very thorough, and then after she confirmed our suspicion of a torn ACL, she explained the whole process so we could understand and knew what to expect. There was also different payment options to explore since the surgery was a bit expensive. The day of my boy's surgery, Dr. Hodge herself called twice to let us know how he was doing and then again the next morning. We are now 3, almost 4 weeks, post surgery and my dog is doing great! I love everything about Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists. I can call with any questions and never feel like I am bothering anyone and usually the doctor herself will call back to answer them. You can tell that everyone that works there loves animals and it is comforting to know that they care about your pet as much as you do. I really can't say enough good about our experience here! I took my healthy 10-year-old cat in because she wouldnt stop meowing and my family vet couldnt see me until the morning. By time I arrived she was panting like a dog which seemed odd, so I was glad we made the trip. I am thinking a broken bone, maybe food was stuck in her throat, but something that probably shouldnt wait until the morning. The nurse then doctor saw my cat and told me my options; $600 to run tests to find out what is wrong and then $1600 to keep her over night for monitoring until my appointment in the morning. Both of which were a bit out of my price range especially if I would be spending more tomorrow. We did an x-ray to make sure there wasnt anything obviously wrong with her and decided to give some pain medicine and liquids to keep her comfortable until the morning in my care. I paid my $400 bill and waited for the nurse to bring my cat out. When she did I literally dropped to my knees. My cat looked like something out of a zombie movie. Her eyes, face, and body were all contorted. She was foaming at the mouth and making the worst noise you could imagine. Both my mom and I were in shock, what happened?! What did you do to my cat?! The nurse then informed me that my cat was not going to make it. So please tell me what happened from 10 minutes ago when you agreed with me that taking her home would be what you would also do, to 5 minutes ago I pay my $400 bill, and now where she isnt going to make it? She died in my moms arms as we pulled out of the parking lot. I called the clinic who said I could then pay another $195 to cremate her body. I took her home; I didnt want these people to touch my poor baby again. If they had even given me the slightest idea she was this bad off, I would have asked about Euthanasia, I cant imagine the pain this poor innocent cat felt in her last moments of life. Since then, I have heard nothing but awful stories about this place. Yeah, you see some 5 point reviews on here but the bad reviews are REALLY bad. I dont know how this place is even still open.Read Less

I don't write reviews often, and honestly have always avoided emergency clinics if at all possible bc of high prices, we also were unfamiliar with this clinic because we just moved to NKY very recently. However- last Sunday we had no choice. Our 3 year old Great Dane Corbin experienced a true emergency- he bloated in the middle of the night. Luckily we recognized the symptoms early and he was able to make it to the clinic. We were a wreck because we had literally just lost our other dog 3 days earlier to bone cancer. Dr. Karwec and the emergency staff were wonderful and moved extremely quickly. The surgery was successful to untwist and tack his stomach, and truly saved our dog's life. After the procedure, in the morning Corbin's care was transferred to Dr Hodge and the surgical day team. His care there remained wonderful as well. We were pleasantly surprised that we were able to visit Corbin each day that he was hospitalized which brought us comfort, and we received updates on his status each morning. We also were able to call and get updates in the evenings before bed. Also, while nobody wants to pay for another day in the hospital, we gladly did. I honestly can say I appreciated Dr Hodges honesty in recommending a 3rd night in the hospital to make sure he was completely good to go. I appreciate that they weren't trying to rush him out and felt like they were really evaluating him completely and wanted to set us up for success at home before agreeing to discharge. I also was pleasantly surprised at the price for a very serious emergency after hours surgery, and 3 full night (24 hour monitored) stay. I love that somebody is always at the clinic, it makes you feel more comfortable when your dog is in such a critical situation. You truly get when you pay for here and I appreciate the care our boy received.Read Less

Thank God Crowley Vet did not think twice to see him when I called them back because your place wouldn't take care of my sick cat. Even though they were booked and busy.Who knows if that 30 minutes could have saved me cat from needing to be put down. your placed should be ashamed! Read Less

As a person in a home with many pets, problems always seem to occur in the middle of the night or on a Sunday. I used the emergency services for many years and was always happy to know there was a place I could take my pets. The staff was always very knowledgable and helpful. Unfortunately I've had to go there twice in the last three months and I was very unhappy with the services I received. I understand that an emergency clinic can be very busy, but the last two times I went the place was not only chaotic but I felt like the people helping me didn't know what they were doing. On my second to last visit, a staff member commented that there had been a change of ownership recently. On my last visit I had to hospitalize my cat overnight. I was reluctant to leave him because I felt like the technician that was talking to me about what the doctors plan was really didn't know. This staff member couldn't really answer my questions and made no attempt to find out for me. The next morning, I had to pick my cat up and go to my regular vet for follow-up care. A record got faxed so my vet knew what happened with my cat. When I talked to my vet, he seemed very confused by the information given to him and told me that from that information it looked as if medications were not given that should have been. I'm not sure what is going on there but if (or when) I have another pet emergency, I'll probably try one of the twenty four hour clinics in Cincinnati. Read Less

This is the worst place in the world. THEY SUCK. They made my cat lose his leg. Only concerned about money they took there time knowing the condition of my cat was critical and had a possibility of losing a leg. Put him in a cage in the back no pain medication was given to him and they took two hours putting together quotes and bringing them in explaining what they could do and then what it would cost. We had to ask if he was even given anything for pain and she said no we put him in the back in a cage until we discuss payment. We had to ask them to give him something for pain and an antibiotic incase of infection. They then went in the back another 20 minutes and came in with another quote for the medication and still hadnt given him any. They were rude, uncaring, unprofessional, uneducated, misleading, unsympathetic, and unapologetic, did I cover all the uns?? They said that there was a clinic and there was a surgeon on duty and that they closed at a certain time so we said were just going to take him there and headed to the front desk to make the payment. There credit card machine was down, we had no cash, and the woman at the front desk was a complete idiot and had to call the owner or manager to ask if they could take a check. My mom told me to go and just get my cat there to the surgeon before we ran out of time and they said we cant release the cat untilt he payment has been made even though no service had been rendured except for typing up there stupid quotes. They held my cat hostage kept him in pain had no concern for my cats agony while his bone is snapped in half in his leg and just dangling there. My mother and step father have had a few animals in and out of there and spent about 3 grand just recently. My stepfather told them to put what they paid over into a fund for people that dont have the money to pay for there pets emergency visit. The woman insured him that there was such a fund when this was brought up by my mother she said there is no such thing. So in the mean time my cat is still in the back and Im crying my eyes out my cat is held hostage the police are on the way that my fiance called and the boss is on her way. They said they couldnt take a check from my mother because they didnt know if the money was any good but my mom just dropped 3 grand in the place. What a joke. So police come and things got really ugly, they ended up taking a check after being there so long that we couldnt make it in time to see the surgeon. This was a Friday so my cat had to be bandaged up and kept in a bathroom floor until monday when I couldl see the surgeon who told me that it was too late infection had spread to the bone or else he could have repaired his leg so this resulted in amputation and permanent handicap for my animal. After all of this my fiance called to speak wtih the owner about the conduct of there staff and the treatment of our animal and also the large bill they had given us for housing our animal while they prepared the financial options to save our animals leg. Please keep in mind no care was given to our animal at this facility yet they charged us 600.00. My fiance upon speaking with the owner requested they refund the full amount of the bill since they are largely responsible for the loss of our animals leg. The owner said, "WELL THATS TOUGH SUE ME, OTHERS HAVE TRIED." DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE. AFTER I POSTED MY EXPERIENCE ON MY FB PAGE THE HORROR STORIES OF PET CARE(if thats what you want to call it) FROM THIS FACILITY BEGAN TO FLOOD MY PAGE. EVERYTHING FROM THEM LOSING SOMEONES DEAD DOGS BODY, TO KILLING A CAT OVER BEING DECLAWED AND TO OVERDOSING SOMEONES DOG JUST TO GET FIXED. I FELT IT VERY IMPORTANT TO PASS ALONG MY EXPERIENCE AND I HOPE THAT YOU AS WELL WILL PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG TO ANY ANIMAL LOVERS/OWNERS IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS PLEASE AVOID THIS FACILITY AT ALL COSTS.

Read Less

I am absolutely impresses with the knowledge and education these specialists and surgeons provided me. For over a year my dog dealt with incompetent vets and I was finally referred here. They sat with me at my first initial visit for over 2 hrs explaining what was going on with my dog. My dog ended up having to have surgery and they put all my cares and concerns at ease. They were thorough, competent and so loving toward me and my pet. I highly recommend.

Keep up the great work and thank you so much for taking care of my boy GCVS!Read Less

Rylie is the 2nd animal we have had here. Over 10 years ago we were referred for my sons cat. Cory needed a feeding tube due to a liver problem. Unfortunately she had issues the night we brought her home and she passed away on the way back to the vets office around 10pm. The next afternoon the entire staff was so compassionate to both my children. They brought Cory to Ryan and Julie so they could say goodbye. They even gave tufts of his hair to them and when we picked up her ashes, there was a plaster paw print of her for Ryan. Now we have Rylie our Scottie who is being treated for a heart murmur I have complete faith in everyone here Read Less

This place informed me they were too busy to see my cat. Being an emergency place did not seem to concerned when a cat was actively having seizures and was not letting up. They asked me if I wanted to wait one hour when they started seeing EMERGENCY patients.
