I recently had to euthanize my 12 year old dog due to medical reasons and old age. This place cared for her as if she was their own. The vet teared up during the process. This showed me that they care as well. They had a blanket ready for her and made her as comfortable as possible. I had her cremated here as well. Not only was it affordable, but today when I retrieved her ashes, they didn't have her in some plastic generic urn. They gave me a beautifully crafted wooden box that held her ashes along with a well written poem that had me crying trying to read it. They treated me and my pet with respect and kindness instead of a coldness you feel at some vets. I will definitely be returning for all my future vetinarian needs. Thank you so much AVS!

The customer service was top notch. I brought my dog is to get spade, they bathed her, clipped her nails and gave me back a healthy happy puppy. This has been the best Vet clinic I have been to in Baton Rouge. They were really helpful and answered all my questions after my dog was spade there. The incision is very small and looks like it will heal well. Overall I am very impressed which isn’t easy to do.

Yes, it's a bit out of the way for most Baton Rouge-ians, but the $$ savings and overall experience makes it totally worth it. They have the lowest costs I've ever seen (in both prescriptions and services) and make it a point to get you in and out as fast as possible. Like most large dog parents know, regular maintenance and check ups on a 86 lb mutt is e x p e n s i v e! their flea and worm preventatives are usually double the price of that for small dogs, and they tend to have worse and more frequent problems with their ears, joints and the works. When I brought my pup in, I needed to have many things done: test for heart worms, ear infection swab, prescription for ear treatment and flea/worm preventative. I walked out of there only having paid $150, and I had all of those services plus the medication for his ear and 6 months of preventatives for my boy. That's an absolute steal! They even have a sign at the front desk saying to let them know in advance if you're low income and funds are limited. This place not only cares about animals, but their owners as well. I don't think I'll ever take my dog anywhere else.

My McKenzie has been going to Associated Vetenarian Clinic for years. Anytime I have an issue (Emergency) their staff and Doctors are the best care facility in Baton Rouge for all my animals. Since the flood we moved to West Baton Rouge from Baton Rouge my dog has had a scratch around the eye from a Ferrell Cat, a Skunk has sprayed her& now she had gland problems and each time I have needed a toe nail infection or a yearly exam its been a wonderful experience to be of one family they service with 100% complete professional service. After visiting another vet that told me X-rays wouldn't show anything but metal after my dog had torn up a toy and was very ill I made the trip from out of town to get her help from the place I trusted most. They were able to see something was in her stomach from the x-rays, and emergency surgery was performed. She was very sick and would have died without the surgery. Everyone was so sweet and caring. I know they took great care of her because as she got better her tail would wag when any of the staff was near and she wanted them to give her some cuddles which they did. This is the place to bring your pets. Your pets will thank you and your wallet will too!

Our dog needed oral surgery twice within a month. I was impressed with the professionalism of the establishment, the care, the pre-op information, the post-op care, the convenience of drop-off and pick-up, Rx in hand upon exit and the TLC my dog received. Care was taken to keep her out of pain, which means a great deal. I could have done without the sermonizing from the vet (I'm a pastor, maybe he thought I needed it!) but it seemed out of place and unprofessional. The veterinary portion of the visit was stellar.

I've always brought my animals here because they're treated well, and as I said, you can't beat the prices. Other places in town will charge 3-4x as much for the same things.

My Great Dane/German Shepherd mix is a serious problem child. When we got him at 10 wks, he had worms and fleas. A few months later, we let him play in the countryside and he came back with mange. Over the course of his current 9-month life, he got a mysterious electrical burn on his tongue, got hit by a city bus, got panosteitis from growing too big, came back from the park with Kennel Cough, got eye conjunctivitis and puppy acne. (He never leaves my side, sleeps in our bed, and even comes to work with me everyday- so his problems are definitely not the result of owner negligence.) Anyway, I know I can always trust AVS and their doctors to keep him healthy and treat him quickly for whatever problems he develops, whether I have a scheduled appointment or emergency visit. Their prices are very fair and reasonable and I know if I had taken him anywhere else, I would have had to refinance my house or something. Thank you AVS! Pavlov appreciates you guys.

We've brought our cats here for years and have always been pleased with the level of care and price! Just 2 days ago one of our cats showed up with a huge cut on her head behind her ear ( she's a scrappy former stray & a little cray cray). We brought her in & paid a $75 deposit. They kept her overnight, sedated her, stitched her up, gave her antibiotics, & brought her up to date on her shots. When my husband went to pick her up today ( Sunday), they couldn't bill us because they weren't technically open, but said they might actually owe us $12!! If you want a waterfall in the lobby or to have your pets nails painted, this isn't the place for you. But, if you want quality care at great prices, check them out! We love AVS!!

This is what a vet should be! Affordable, knowledgable, kind and patient vets/techs and front desk staff who clearly love what they do. This is a utilitarian, no frills kind of place... Just good, efficient care at a reasonable cost. Round 2 of puppy shots plus first heartworm and flea meds totaled $45. A microchip will be $40 without spay/neuter, or $20 with. There is a sign at the counter that lets people know that if they have limited funds they will work with you. I do not know what the policy is, but I applaud this clinic for making good pet care accessible... if everyone's pets are healthy, it is good for all of us!

I am very thankful for AVS. They have always given my dogs the best treatment, for very good prices. Had to visit an emergency vet over the weekend, they charged a ridiculous fee, and didn't do one think to help my dog. One visit to AVS, they admitted her, with IV treatment, and knew exactly what to do to help her. I am always satisfied, although the walk-in wait can be very long... it is worth the wait, and appointments are available, if you can wait a few days to come in. Thank you to all the staff, vets, techs, everyone has been great over the many years of service.

Yesterday was our first time going to Associated Vetinaery Services. We had taken Samson to his regular vet of nine years who had given up on him, but only after they had charged us $225 with no idea as to what was wrong with him. They said just bring him back if he gets worse. Of course he would get worse. They hadn't done a DARN thing! The sweet young vet at AVS did a urinalysis and discovered Sam had a urinary tract infection and an enlarged prostrate. We started Sam on antibiotics and pain killers the same night. The next morning Sam was eating, wagging his tail, and baking like usual. Thanks to AVS our dog made it through when his regular vet said that x-rays were too expensive for his age. By the way, an x-ray was the wrong test anyway. If you want pretty paperwork, exuberant prices, and no solution to your dog's ailments, go to Banfield. If you want your dog healthy, a vet with evening hours, and your pockets full, try Associated Veterinary Services. I'm sold! Thanks, AVS.

Outdated view of animal medicine. I moved here and was looking for a new vet. My dog is a rescue with a history of abuse so he is skittish and fearful. The vet was not empathetic, gentle or caring. She just kept rudely admonishing us with "The dog's got to get on the table, it's gotta happen'" over and over. Yes, I know. Why don't you create a gentle environment or even try to introduce yourself to the pet. I found myself getting stressed out with her "bedside manner" so I can only imagine how my dog was doing. Also, could it be a bit of a risk to put a 60 lb skittish dog on a 4 plus foot high table. I am used to quality care in SF where the vet or tech will usually give your dog a treat and try to acclimate it to the environment. There were dogs with inhumane spike collars on in the waiting room as well which is also horrifying. It just seems like an impersonal outdated and quite honestly backwards attitude towards animals.

I have a chihuahua that I have been bringing here for annual checkups since he was a puppy. He normally puts up a little bit of a fight when they try and give him shots and such, but normally one person will hold onto him while the other handles shots, temps etc. with no problem. Well the woman that was the vet on duty on August 24 apparently had no patience or any business in my opinion, dealing with animals. While she and the assistant were trying to do a fecal sample, my dog, as a natural response to having a stick jammed up his a** im sure, snapped at her. She immediately grabbed a rope and tied it around his snout, very tightly from what I could tell, and tried to muzzle him with that. Obviously my dog is resisting very strongly and trying to cry out, sure he was terrified about what was happening, so I told her to stop. He had a bad back and I didn't want him to hurt himself in the struggle. Mind you, this is a 10 lb chihuahua, not a Great Dane. This is a veterinary office, why didn't they have a normal muzzle to use instead??? Why was this assistant unable to hold down a chihuahua for 10 seconds without an issue?? I was told it was just easier to use a rope. I have never seen this done. Woman didn't care, offer another way of giving him his checkup. As I said, he reacted to her ONCE and this was her response. So needless to say i asked her to stop and she said they wouldn't do his checkup any other way. He is 7 years old and this is the first time I have ever seen anyone treat him this way. Will be bringing him and my other 2 dogs somewhere else from now on. VERY disappointed and will be sure to let anyone i know that takes their animals here how little they care about people's pets.

(I never call ahead and I usually come on Saturday, the busiest day. If you have an appointment it's much faster.) I've dealt with 2 or 3 different vets. They are knowledgeable & no-bullshit in the way they operate and I appreciate that they don't sugar coat things or waste your time. They tell you what you need to know, answer any questions you have, and you get on with your day. I recommend them to my friends and will be coming back for as long as I live in the area.

We love AVS! It's nice to see a vet clinic more concerned about the animals than money. Every visit is very reasonable and everyone there is so sweet! All the doctors seem great though we only see Dr. Kidwell. I like to have a consistent doctor that knows my dog's history. She's so sweet and compassionate with our little dog. Layla had to stay in the kennel two nights and every morning and every night Dr. Kidwell would call to give me updates on how she was doing and on days off, she would still go check on her kennel patients at least once. That really helped put my mind at ease! Not only that but she also called to check on Layla once she was back at home. She truly is a wonderful veterinarian. Also, one of the comments said that you cannot schedule appointments but I have several times and I don't usually have to wait too long either. The walk-in option is really wonderful though because often, especially with an older dog, it's an unexpected vet trip. Keep up the good work AVS!

I love AVS! This place has saved my cat's live twice while also saving me considerable expenses. Dr. Balkom is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and helpful. This is a vet clinic that provides services because they love animals, not just to make a buck. They are low cost which is great. I've been at other vets where I felt I was making a choice between what I could afford and what was in my cat's best interest. I can't recommend them highly enough. Again, nothing fancy about the clinic itself, but if you want stellar care for your pets without the HUUUGGEE price tags of other clinics, AVS is perfect.

I miss this place! I lived in Baton Rouge for a year and I LOVED this place. It's owned by a veterinarian named Dr. Craig, who runs the clinic more or less at-cost. The visit itself was only $20 (3 years ago, though I've sent friends here since then and they've said the same). An annual check up and vaccinations for an adult cat cost me $80 total. I think for my dogs it was about $110 each. It's not the brightest, cleanest, prettiest place, and it is on Greenwell Springs in a not-so-nice part of town, but if you need affordable, this is the place to be. People who go to vet school aren't there for the money. In general, no matter how much you pay you're going to get someone who REALLY cares about animals. I would prefer to pay less, on my minimal student budget! Also, if you need pet medications, just go next door to Greco's Pet Supply. Super affordable.

I recently had to euthanize my 12 year old dog due to medical reasons and old age. This place cared for her as if she was their own. The vet teared up during the process. This showed me that they care as well. They had a blanket ready for her and made her as comfortable as possible. I had her cremated here as well. Not only was it affordable, but today when I retrieved her ashes, they didn't have her in some plastic generic urn. They gave me a beautifully crafted wooden box that held her ashes along with a well written poem that had me crying trying to read it. They treated me and my pet with respect and kindness instead of a coldness you feel at some vets. I will definitely be returning for all my future vetinarian needs. Thank you so much AVS!

Yes, it's a bit out of the way for most Baton Rouge-ians, but the $$ savings and overall experience makes it totally worth it. They have the lowest costs I've ever seen (in both prescriptions and services) and make it a point to get you in and out as fast as possible. Like most large dog parents know, regular maintenance and check ups on a 86 lb mutt is e x p e n s i v e! their flea and worm preventatives are usually double the price of that for small dogs, and they tend to have worse and more frequent problems with their ears, joints and the works. When I brought my pup in, I needed to have many things done: test for heart worms, ear infection swab, prescription for ear treatment and flea/worm preventative. I walked out of there only having paid $150, and I had all of those services plus the medication for his ear and 6 months of preventatives for my boy. That's an absolute steal! They even have a sign at the front desk saying to let them know in advance if you're low income and funds are limited. This place not only cares about animals, but their owners as well. I don't think I'll ever take my dog anywhere else.

My McKenzie has been going to Associated Vetenarian Clinic for years. Anytime I have an issue (Emergency) their staff and Doctors are the best care facility in Baton Rouge for all my animals. Since the flood we moved to West Baton Rouge from Baton Rouge my dog has had a scratch around the eye from a Ferrell Cat, a Skunk has sprayed her& now she had gland problems and each time I have needed a toe nail infection or a yearly exam its been a wonderful experience to be of one family they service with 100% complete professional service. After visiting another vet that told me X-rays wouldn't show anything but metal after my dog had torn up a toy and was very ill I made the trip from out of town to get her help from the place I trusted most. They were able to see something was in her stomach from the x-rays, and emergency surgery was performed. She was very sick and would have died without the surgery. Everyone was so sweet and caring. I know they took great care of her because as she got better her tail would wag when any of the staff was near and she wanted them to give her some cuddles which they did. This is the place to bring your pets. Your pets will thank you and your wallet will too!

Our dog needed oral surgery twice within a month. I was impressed with the professionalism of the establishment, the care, the pre-op information, the post-op care, the convenience of drop-off and pick-up, Rx in hand upon exit and the TLC my dog received. Care was taken to keep her out of pain, which means a great deal. I could have done without the sermonizing from the vet (I'm a pastor, maybe he thought I needed it!) but it seemed out of place and unprofessional. The veterinary portion of the visit was stellar.

I've always brought my animals here because they're treated well, and as I said, you can't beat the prices. Other places in town will charge 3-4x as much for the same things.

My Great Dane/German Shepherd mix is a serious problem child. When we got him at 10 wks, he had worms and fleas. A few months later, we let him play in the countryside and he came back with mange. Over the course of his current 9-month life, he got a mysterious electrical burn on his tongue, got hit by a city bus, got panosteitis from growing too big, came back from the park with Kennel Cough, got eye conjunctivitis and puppy acne. (He never leaves my side, sleeps in our bed, and even comes to work with me everyday- so his problems are definitely not the result of owner negligence.) Anyway, I know I can always trust AVS and their doctors to keep him healthy and treat him quickly for whatever problems he develops, whether I have a scheduled appointment or emergency visit. Their prices are very fair and reasonable and I know if I had taken him anywhere else, I would have had to refinance my house or something. Thank you AVS! Pavlov appreciates you guys.

We've brought our cats here for years and have always been pleased with the level of care and price! Just 2 days ago one of our cats showed up with a huge cut on her head behind her ear ( she's a scrappy former stray & a little cray cray). We brought her in & paid a $75 deposit. They kept her overnight, sedated her, stitched her up, gave her antibiotics, & brought her up to date on her shots. When my husband went to pick her up today ( Sunday), they couldn't bill us because they weren't technically open, but said they might actually owe us $12!! If you want a waterfall in the lobby or to have your pets nails painted, this isn't the place for you. But, if you want quality care at great prices, check them out! We love AVS!!

Just good, efficient care at a reasonable cost. Round 2 of puppy shots plus first heartworm and flea meds totaled $45. A microchip will be $40 without spay/neuter, or $20 with. There is a sign at the counter that lets people know that if they have limited funds they will work with you. I do not know what the policy is, but I applaud this clinic for making good pet care accessible... if everyone's pets are healthy, it is good for all of us!

I am very thankful for AVS. They have always given my dogs the best treatment, for very good prices. Had to visit an emergency vet over the weekend, they charged a ridiculous fee, and didn't do one think to help my dog. One visit to AVS, they admitted her, with IV treatment, and knew exactly what to do to help her. I am always satisfied, although the walk-in wait can be very long... it is worth the wait, and appointments are available, if you can wait a few days to come in. Thank you to all the staff, vets, techs, everyone has been great over the many years of service.

Yesterday was our first time going to Associated Vetinaery Services. We had taken Samson to his regular vet of nine years who had given up on him, but only after they had charged us $225 with no idea as to what was wrong with him. They said just bring him back if he gets worse. Of course he would get worse. They hadn't done a DARN thing! The sweet young vet at AVS did a urinalysis and discovered Sam had a urinary tract infection and an enlarged prostrate. We started Sam on antibiotics and pain killers the same night. The next morning Sam was eating, wagging his tail, and baking like usual. Thanks to AVS our dog made it through when his regular vet said that x-rays were too expensive for his age. By the way, an x-ray was the wrong test anyway. If you want pretty paperwork, exuberant prices, and no solution to your dog's ailments, go to Banfield. If you want your dog healthy, a vet with evening hours, and your pockets full, try Associated Veterinary Services. I'm sold! Thanks, AVS.

Outdated view of animal medicine. I moved here and was looking for a new vet. My dog is a rescue with a history of abuse so he is skittish and fearful. The vet was not empathetic, gentle or caring. She just kept rudely admonishing us with "The dog's got to get on the table, it's gotta happen'" over and over. Yes, I know. Why don't you create a gentle environment or even try to introduce yourself to the pet. I found myself getting stressed out with her "bedside manner" so I can only imagine how my dog was doing. Also, could it be a bit of a risk to put a 60 lb skittish dog on a 4 plus foot high table. I am used to quality care in SF where the vet or tech will usually give your dog a treat and try to acclimate it to the environment. There were dogs with inhumane spike collars on in the waiting room as well which is also horrifying. It just seems like an impersonal outdated and quite honestly backwards attitude towards animals.

I have a chihuahua that I have been bringing here for annual checkups since he was a puppy. He normally puts up a little bit of a fight when they try and give him shots and such, but normally one person will hold onto him while the other handles shots, temps etc. with no problem. Well the woman that was the vet on duty on August 24 apparently had no patience or any business in my opinion, dealing with animals. While she and the assistant were trying to do a fecal sample, my dog, as a natural response to having a stick jammed up his a** im sure, snapped at her. She immediately grabbed a rope and tied it around his snout, very tightly from what I could tell, and tried to muzzle him with that. Obviously my dog is resisting very strongly and trying to cry out, sure he was terrified about what was happening, so I told her to stop. He had a bad back and I didn't want him to hurt himself in the struggle. Mind you, this is a 10 lb chihuahua, not a Great Dane. This is a veterinary office, why didn't they have a normal muzzle to use instead??? Why was this assistant unable to hold down a chihuahua for 10 seconds without an issue?? I was told it was just easier to use a rope. I have never seen this done. Woman didn't care, offer another way of giving him his checkup. As I said, he reacted to her ONCE and this was her response. So needless to say i asked her to stop and she said they wouldn't do his checkup any other way. He is 7 years old and this is the first time I have ever seen anyone treat him this way. Will be bringing him and my other 2 dogs somewhere else from now on. VERY disappointed and will be sure to let anyone i know that takes their animals here how little they care about people's pets.

I've taken all 4 of my animals here (2 dogs 2 cats). They are great with both (but the dogs have more fun.) I just walk in so there is going to be a wait, but I'm usually in-and-out in about 2 hours. (I never call ahead and I usually come on Saturday, the busiest day. If you have an appointment it's much faster.) I've dealt with 2 or 3 different vets. They are knowledgeable & no-bullshit in the way they operate and I appreciate that they don't sugar coat things or waste your time. They tell you what you need to know, answer any questions you have, and you get on with your day. I recommend them to my friends and will be coming back for as long as I live in the area.

The Vets and assistants are always so kind and caring to our pets. You can tell they really love animals. And they have always consistently found quick and affordable solutions to our pets problems.

I've always had a great experience. Very friendly staff and affordable. You really can't ask for more. I've been to a few Vets around town that were shady, and feel lucky to have found this place.

We love AVS! It's nice to see a vet clinic more concerned about the animals than money. Every visit is very reasonable and everyone there is so sweet! All the doctors seem great though we only see Dr. Kidwell. I like to have a consistent doctor that knows my dog's history. She's so sweet and compassionate with our little dog. Layla had to stay in the kennel two nights and every morning and every night Dr. Kidwell would call to give me updates on how she was doing and on days off, she would still go check on her kennel patients at least once. That really helped put my mind at ease! Not only that but she also called to check on Layla once she was back at home. She truly is a wonderful veterinarian. Also, one of the comments said that you cannot schedule appointments but I have several times and I don't usually have to wait too long either. The walk-in option is really wonderful though because often, especially with an older dog, it's an unexpected vet trip. Keep up the good work AVS!

I love AVS! This place has saved my cat's live twice while also saving me considerable expenses. Dr. Balkom is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and helpful. This is a vet clinic that provides services because they love animals, not just to make a buck. They are low cost which is great. I've been at other vets where I felt I was making a choice between what I could afford and what was in my cat's best interest. I can't recommend them highly enough. Again, nothing fancy about the clinic itself, but if you want stellar care for your pets without the HUUUGGEE price tags of other clinics, AVS is perfect.

I miss this place! I lived in Baton Rouge for a year and I LOVED this place. It's owned by a veterinarian named Dr. Craig, who runs the clinic more or less at-cost. The visit itself was only $20 (3 years ago, though I've sent friends here since then and they've said the same). An annual check up and vaccinations for an adult cat cost me $80 total. I think for my dogs it was about $110 each. It's not the brightest, cleanest, prettiest place, and it is on Greenwell Springs in a not-so-nice part of town, but if you need affordable, this is the place to be. People who go to vet school aren't there for the money. In general, no matter how much you pay you're going to get someone who REALLY cares about animals. I would prefer to pay less, on my minimal student budget! Also, if you need pet medications, just go next door to Greco's Pet Supply. Super affordable.
