Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic

Baton Rouge, Louisiana
General Info
Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic in Baton Rouge ensures emotional safety as a clinical standard while delivering understandable veterinary guidance to Louisiana families for home application. Before permitting examination, cats often require indirect eye contact. Dogs may need extended step transitions and opportunities to sniff tools. The clinic implements a species-specific and emotionally responsive approach that deliberately avoids overstimulation while adjusting to individual tolerance thresholds. The process treats owners as genuine partners throughout its entirety. The examination of pets' domestic behaviors such as post-storm actions sleeping preferences and responses to new textures serves as clinical data. Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic delivers medical assistance across preventive planning along with diagnostics and internal medicine while also offering nutrition advisement and dental care together with multi-species senior pet wellness programs. Each procedure's timing is meticulously synchronized with the animal’s capacity to maintain calmness and presence. Certain pets experience diagnostics divided among multiple visits while others receive anxiety-reducing preparation plans. Exotic pets receive customized handling strategies to prevent stress-related complications. Families receive signal-based post-care suggestions after appointments which include methods to monitor pain expression and ways to judge overstimulation from sound or activity along with guidance on when to resume normal interactions. Each treatment plan embodies a complex rhythm that dictates the appropriate moments to pause, engage, and reassess. I took my rats in for neutering. I thought it was great that they partnered with the rescue I got the rats from. However, the two rats chewed and pulled out their stitches and I had to make an emergency appointment for them to get surgery to fix it. I took them to the LSU vet school since it was nearby and I had good service there before. The vet there said that whenever she does work on small animals, she buries the stitches so they can't get to them and chew them. She also asked if they were given any anti-pain meds, as that's typical for them so they don't chew at the painful part of their body. I also was told I would get a call when the boys were ready to be picked up, and I never did. I ended up calling anyway at 4:30 and was told I could get them by 6. When I dropped off the boys, it didn't appear that anyone there particularly cared about them. I had to leave them on the counter in the room with a bunch of dogs while somebody came up to get them. I won't be using this vet again. Read Less

I have been taking my dog Sophie to Azalea Lakes for about 11 years. About 3 years ago we moved to the Walker area and I tried a nearby vet clinic. After the 3rd time I boarded her it finally sunk in that she hated going there for some reason. The last time I took her she did a sit-down protest in the parking lot and verbalized in dog language that she didn€t want to go in there! I thought back to when I used to take her to Azalea Lakes how she would actually run to the front door and if I didn€t open it soon enough she would paw on the door telling me to €Hurry up€! We have gone back to Azalea Lakes Vet Clinic even though it is about a 20 mile drive. Once when I went to pick her up after boarding her, when the young girl handed her to me to take her home, instead of focusing on me, she turned back to the young girl and gave her a big doggy kiss on the cheek! I would say that is a true indication of what a great place Azalea Lakes is! Recently when I took her to Azalea Lakes, as soon as she realized what parking lot we were in her tail started wagging and again, she ran toward the front door! Sincere compliments to the great doctors, the great staff that makes my Sophie feel loved when I have to board her, and the friendly staff at the front desk (Kerri, Candie, Wendy, and the ladies whose name I don€t know yet ). Multiple visits, unanswered calls/messages, and too many mistakes to not dislike this place of business. Was referred there a year or so back for my dog. He was in need of "knee" surgery on his right hind leg. Upon picking up our pet and to our astonishment they performed surgery on the wrong leg. Now we return a day or so later and they perform the surgery once more on the correct leg. This of course handicapped the dog to two front legs. Fast forward to now when his internal sutures have not healed properly, had to be removed, and opened up multiple times after that because they weren't all taken out the first time. Now the dog has had an infection for months which we returned to this establishment to get a culture done to find what type of infection it is and we can't get a single person to answer a call or tell us what the next step is with this issue. This has been over the course of a year. It's been two weeks since the culture sample was taken. Still no word. Save your pet the uncomfortability and pain. Take her/him elsewhere where the animal is the main focus and concern.Read Less

The male Dane is like a bull in a china shop. A huge dog that refuses to grow up. Everyone welcome his playful energy. They have performed surgeries and various procedures over the years. My dog had surgery here back in 2007. He has had major problems with his leg ever since they cut him. The vets I've taken him to in Austin, Tx have all told me his pain and suffering was do to a botched surgery. They cut him multiple times due to their own mistakes and gave him NO pain management. They told me he was being "silly" when he was quivering and crying in pain. He was whining the whole night so I ended up sleeping on the floor next to him to comfort him through his pain. The worst part is they LIED to me about the horrible job they did and led me to believe that the suffering was "normal". After talking about what happened with his surgery to vets and vet techs here in Austin they are appalled.Thank God for the wonderful vets here in Austin Texas who have determined the root of all his pain and suffering. This breaks my heart because I had been using Doctor Susie for a vet for many years before the botched surgery. They were also supposed to clean my dogs teeth while he was knocked out...they charged me and never did the service. For basic needs I think this place would be okay...just what ever you do...DO NOT LET THEM DO ANY SURGERY ON YOUR PET! I wouldn't suggest boarding either as I boarded several animals over the years and when I would pick them up every single one of them would be very hungry/thirsty...I never put 2 and 2 together as I was only a teenager but, after reading some of the reviews I'm convinced they don't give regular food, water, or attention. I wish I could give this place great reviews because I LOVE doctor Susie. She helped me save a litter of kittens I was nursing back to health. Unfortunately she isn't in control of what's going on and how her staff if treating people's animals. This needs to be brought to her attention. Read Less

I first met Dr. Suzie about 16 years ago and have had to see a few different vet's in those 16 years due to moving around for my husbands work. I can and will tell anyone that you will never find another clinic like Azalea Lakes. Neither me or my rather large family of pets have ever been treated with such kindness, dignity or respect anywhere else. From the bottom to the top there is not one single person or thing that I can speak negatively about. Dr. Suzie has managed to round up a whole army of "Angels" to work with and for her and I trust her and her staff with my life and the life of my pets. The work that Dr. Suzie does for her community alone makes her the best in my eyes. Dr. Tara went way above and beyond anything that could be expected from the best vet on the planet in taking care of my precious Bitty Bit for 2 1/2 years. Not once did that precious Cocker Spaniel ever show any fear in having to go every month to be seen by her or Dr. Tony or Dr. Gretchen. I had recently brought my dog into this clinic for an afternoon appointment. It was the worst experience ever! It started with the front staff on their cell phones doing whatever and ignoring me the customer. Until finally another receptionist from the back came up and asked if she could help. I don't know her name because they do not wear name tags. Once I was checked in we waited for approximately 30 minutes. When Finally a tech came and brought us to a room. where we waited again for the doctor. Again the tech came and said they were going to start some test for my dog and the doctor would be in shortly. After a few minutes of waiting again the tech brought my dog back in and told me they were filling medications for my dogs ears, and give them a few minutes and I could check out. Upon check out I got a little report card on my dog and the meds payed my bill and left. I never knew who the doctor was until I asked and they said Dr. Tara. I paid to see a doctor and never even saw one. I saw and for all I know was treated by a tech.Do not get me wrong the techs were the best part of my horrible visit, they communicated with me and shared stories, made me feel at home. What ever happened to the doctor taking time to get to know their clients and having conversations about my dog even if its for five minutes. I felt as if I was a burden and headache for the doctor. So to relief this stressed atmosphere I will never bring any of my animals there ever again. Read Less

I had an totally unexpected emergency when my little chicken, Baby, was attacked by  my neighbor's dogs last Friday.  She was in shock with her eyes closed tight, gasping for breath, and bleeding from a wound on her neck.  I've only had her for a few months and I hadn't a clue what to do for her.  I was certain that she would die.  I called another Vet in the area who recommended Azalea Lakes for my chicken.  When I called the staff was very kind and understanding and told me that there were at least two doctors there who could see my chicken.  I rushed her in and dropped her off so that I could get back to work.  The girl at the front desk let me know that the doctors were already examining her before I even walked out the door. Before 30 minutes passed, my phone rang with an update.  Baby was stable, and the doctors recommended that she stay the weekend and be given antibiotics, etc.  I was invited to come and visit at any time I liked and also to call in and check on Baby throughout the day, which I did ( ! ) many times.  I was able to pick Baby up on Monday, almost as good as new.  I was SHOCKED when they told me the cost of her care because I expected it to be so much worse.   We are totally thrilled with the care that we received at Azalea Lakes.  They were very professional and caring and incredibly fast in this emergency situation even though it was clear that they were very busy with other patients.  I would absolutely recommend Azalea Lakes to anyone in the area with a chicken or any other kind of pet.  Thank you for saving Baby! Exotic pets receive customized handling strategies to prevent stress-related complications. Families receive signal-based post-care suggestions after appointments which include methods to monitor pain expression and ways to judge overstimulation from sound or activity along with guidance on when to resume normal interactions.

Read Less

In March of 2015 I had noticed my dog having a limp when he walked and struggled to get up.

We sent our cat to this vet to be fixed. Well after attempting the surgery, they called to inform us that the cat was already fixed. (We did not get our cat fixed). Months later, our cat had kittens. We called Azalea Lake and was told that they will call us back. But we did not get a call back. We tried again and was told the same thing. So the cat has one more litter, and we again tried to call and speak to someone about the matter and was told, again (with attitude), that they will call us back. We only wanted them to fix the cat and could not get anyone to have a simple conversation about the situation. They just don't care. Ofcourse, the cat has been fixed by a Vet who does care to actually do the job. SO SAD :( Read Less

I went to Dr. Susie for 3 years when I lived in Baton Rouge and she provided quality care to all 3 of my cats. I also saw other doctors there who were just as great. The staff there is super friendly and always willing to answer any questions. More than once, I talked to Dr. Susie herself when I had a question. When I moved to New Orleans, they were helpful and nice about helping me get established with a new vet. The prices at Azalea Lakes were the reason I went there in the first place (in my opinion, the best bang for your buck in Baton Rouge), but the care and attention to my pets is what kept me coming back.
