Took my dog and cat there for routine dental cleanings and comprehensive exams. It was determined that my cat had a urinary tract infection. He was administered antibiotics in addition to multiple vaccines and anesthesia all in one session. Over the next few days he stopped eating and drinking and barely moved from the same spot. We took him back to discover he was experiencing renal failure. Apparently the combination of drugs he was given during his visit had overloaded his renal system and caused failure. We then had to bring him in for 4 days straight to receive intravenous fluids to reverse this effect. As an added bonus, on the 3rd day my wife picked him up he was covered in his own urine. Never once did any member of the staff apologize or even acknowledge the fact that their misstep had nearly cost my pet his life. The 4 days of treatment cost a total of $383.96 and that is with him being enrolled in Banfield's Wellness Plan. Their excuse was that the test for specific organ function does not show any cause for alarm as long as that organ is functioning at 25% or higher. Whether that is actually the case or not, they put my cat's life in jeopardy and my wife and I were stuck with the bill when all was said and done. I would not recommend anyone taking their pet to this facility. Read Less

Only leaving a review to combat the negatives. This place and the people are great. The vet techs recognize me when I go in and ask about my pet by name. I've been given a vets personal cell number so that I could record and send in a video of a symptom that never seems to happen when he's in for a checkup. Just this morning they made me a last minute appointment because I had an urgent concern. Got him back before I had to go to work. I've gone here with both of my dogs and will continue going with any future animals. Read Less

I spoke with a female Harahan Banfield employee via phone in the afternoon on Wed, Apr 20th to schedule an appointment to drop off my dog on Friday at 8am for shots and a physical. I arrived on Friday morning with my dog in tow as scheduled but there was no record of an appointment ever being made. After searching on his computer for a few moments, the gentlemen suggested that maybe I called a different vet but I confirmed the number that I dialed on my phone was in fact their office number.
Whenever I deal with businesses over the phone in Louisiana I record them (only one party needs to consent to being recorded in this state) as I've had issues in the past where having a recording has been beneficial. I played back the recording of the appointment that I made to the gentleman helping me. He confirmed that it was an employee that worked there and after listening to the call it was clearly understood that an appointment was made for Fri at 8am. He then stated that there was no longer any availability to drop my dog off and offered to make me an appointment for Saturday but I declined.
I called the Banfield in Metarie and they had a spot open. I drove over and dropped off my dog with no incident and they were very helpful.
For something that should have been easy, this was a huge waste of time for me. There was no availability at the Banfield in Harvey and I think I got lucky with the Metarie location having a vacancy. If Metarie didn't have an opening, I would have had to drive back home to St. Charles Parish to drop my dog off and then drive back in to the city. This would have made me even later for work than I already was having to drive to another Banfield location not to mention the additional trips I would have to make on Saturday to get my dog taken care of.
This encounter has really soured my Banfield experience and I'll be looking at what my options are for local veterinarians. Read Less

Today I took my dogs in to have their nails clipped. My 12 pound puppy is very skiddish. I suggested someone hold her while someone else clipped her nails. The girl who took her in the back could tell she was freaked out but wouldn't even pick her up to comfort her. I could hear her crying in the back they came out and asked me to muzzle her. Apparently no one listened to me or wanted to make my one year old puppy comfortable. They came back out and said they couldnt do it. They said she was flipping around the table. When I was getting my refund issued another worker came out and said to put the reason down as "dog aggressive". I then said she's not agressive and she came back with "well she bites". It hurt my feelings that they werent willing to be sympathetic to my scared puppy. I know that she is not the most challenging dog they've dealt with. Read Less

I have gotten nothing but great service for my pup here! They're very good about telling you exactly what you're getting, pricing accurately, and keeping you updated on appointments and following up after. In fact, they always call the day before an appointment to remind you and the day after to check on your pet's progress, and I am always at work for at least one of these calls and miss it. Oops.What I really like about Banfield is that they have a monthly payment plan for those shots, services, and vaccines that my pup will need every year. I really like being able to budget a manageable amount ($30-40, depending on the age of your pet and the services you pay for) each month rather than going in once every 6 months knowing I'll be dropping $150-300. They always give me a bill that has itemized prices for all of the services my pet has gotten (and therefore, how much I have "saved") and I'm not sure how accurate they exactly are--if I'm actually saving that many dollars--but it's really much easier to pay monthly than biannually. That's just my personal preference.Oh, and my little pup is always nervous and, frankly, poorly behaved, but they treat her very nicely and are as gentle as possible through her craziness. I really appreciate that they aren't judgmental or anything about her behavior since she's a sort-of rescue who came with bad behavior and can't be trained out of it. Read Less

When I got there, the ladies working the desk were very unhelpful. They didn't listen to what I was looking for. They instead directed me an aisle in petsmart that sold dog travel accessories. I have a cat. We are not traveling. He has worms. They appeared to have less than the amount of knowledge one could acquire from pictorial animal flashcards.Go somewhere else, don't waste your gas money. Paying a vet more money is worth it. My dog had an ear infection and a skin allergy. It came to $117 (with free pet exam and consultation coupon, generally $34). They did an ear swab test, ear flush, general physical exam, and it included all the mediation (ear flush medication, antibiotics, and ear drops)!! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is that I wish the staff was a little bit more awake. This is the vet that I use for my puppy vet care and I find it to be very affordable and convenient. I think the biggest perk for me was their preventative health plan. I pay about $30/month and this plan includes all of my puppy's visits, shots, well care labs, and her spay. I love that I can bring her in to see the vet at any time without having to pay for her to see the vet, and they are open every day of the week. One Sunday morning Stella (puppy) woke us up at 5AM very uncomfortable, and I realized that she had worms, it was fantastic that I could take her in that morning to see someone and get everything cleared up. That emergency vet visit cost me about $7 to purchase the deworming medication.I have also found the vets to be very friendly. However, Laura Managan is by far my favorite. I like her because she is very gentle and my puppy really likes her. She also answers any questions we have. My understanding is that they have several vets, but you can request a specific vet if you have a preference. I'm not sure that I will continue with the well care plan after Stella turns a year, but at least for this first year with all of the visits and shots it has been very convenient. Read Less

The vets take the time to explain everything and answer any questions. They want to make certain that you understand everything that is going on with your animal. They return calls promptly and are happy to take time with you even if you don't have an appointment. When I was getting my refund issued another worker came out and said to put the reason down as "dog aggressive". I then said she's not agressive and she came back with "well she bites". I have gotten nothing but great service for my pup here! They're very good about telling you exactly what you're getting, pricing accurately, and keeping you updated on appointments and following up after. In fact, they always call the day before an appointment to remind you and the day after to check on your pet's progress, and I am always at work for at least one of these calls and miss it. Oops.What I really like about Banfield is that they have a monthly payment plan for those shots, services, and vaccines that my pup will need every year. I really like being able to budget a manageable amount ($30-40, depending on the age of your pet and the services you pay for) each month rather than going in once every 6 months knowing I'll be dropping $150-300. They always give me a bill that has itemized prices for all of the services my pet has gotten (and therefore, how much I have "saved") and I'm not sure how accurate they exactly are--if I'm actually saving that many dollars--but it's really much easier to pay monthly than biannually. That's just my personal preference.Oh, and my little pup is always nervous and, frankly, poorly behaved, but they treat her very nicely and are as gentle as possible through her craziness. I really appreciate that they aren't judgmental or anything about her behavior since she's a sort-of rescue who came with bad behavior and can't be trained out of it. Read Less

I was hoping to buy a pill from the vet to take care of worms. I had bought one years ago and it had good results. They told me absolutely and to come down to see them, no ned to bring the cat. When I got there, the ladies working the desk were very unhelpful. They didn't listen to what I was looking for. They instead directed me an aisle in petsmart that sold dog travel accessories. I have a cat. We are not traveling. He has worms. They appeared to have less than the amount of knowledge one could acquire from pictorial animal flashcards.Go somewhere else, don't waste your gas money. Paying a vet more money is worth it. I LOVE my new vet, Dr. Ashley Tahir!!! She was so nice and very helpful! She called me the next day to check up on my dog's progress. The prices were very reasonable. My dog had an ear infection and a skin allergy. It came to $117 (with free pet exam and consultation coupon, generally $34). They did an ear swab test, ear flush, general physical exam, and it included all the mediation (ear flush medication, antibiotics, and ear drops)!! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is that I wish the staff was a little bit more awake. It was around 9am and all looked pretty tired:( Overall, I think will be my dog's new vet:))) Great place!! Read Less

This is the vet that I use for my puppy vet care and I find it to be very affordable and convenient. I think the biggest perk for me was their preventative health plan. I pay about $30/month and this plan includes all of my puppy's visits, shots, well care labs, and her spay. I love that I can bring her in to see the vet at any time without having to pay for her to see the vet, and they are open every day of the week. One Sunday morning Stella (puppy) woke us up at 5AM very uncomfortable, and I realized that she had worms, it was fantastic that I could take her in that morning to see someone and get everything cleared up. That emergency vet visit cost me about $7 to purchase the deworming medication.I have also found the vets to be very friendly. However, Laura Managan is by far my favorite. I like her because she is very gentle and my puppy really likes her. She also answers any questions we have. My understanding is that they have several vets, but you can request a specific vet if you have a preference. I'm not sure that I will continue with the well care plan after Stella turns a year, but at least for this first year with all of the visits and shots it has been very convenient. Read Less

I have two dogs who are patients at Banfield. We have used them for over 2-1/2 years, and they have never been anything but caring and concerned. The vets take the time to explain everything and answer any questions. They want to make certain that you understand everything that is going on with your animal. They return calls promptly and are happy to take time with you even if you don't have an appointment. The staff there is always courteous and cheerful and you can really tell that they love the animals they care for. We love Banfield! Read Less
