My 6 year old dachshund started having back pain. We took him to chateau and they gave him a morphine shot and did a laser treatment. About 30 minutes later right when we got home, we placed my dog on the ground to walk inside and he was very wobbly when he tried to walk. Thinking it was just the meds I brought him inside for a few minutes and he became paralyzed in his back legs. I brought him back to chateau and they told me to bring him to medvet immediatly to have surgery. When went ahead and brought him there to have the surgery and it was unsuccessful. 3 days later the paralysis was spreading up to his neck and he wouldn't have been able to breathe so we had to put him down.. We really don't know if they gave him the shot wrong but everytime I went to chateau they never made me comfortable. I go to a new vet now for my cats and couldn't be anymore happy. They are also very expensive. I would not recommend chateau to anyone. Read Less

A few years after Katrina my cat who was only 6 years old lost a lot of weight rapidly despite him eating a lot. We soon found out that he was diabetic. The staff at Château was very kind & empathetic. They knew how difficult this would be. Because of the nature of the disease for our cat, we decided that putting him to sleep would be the best option. We struggled with this and it was a very difficult decision but château veterinarian staff was very supportive. They even sent us a card telling us they knew how difficult it was for us to make that decision but supported us in every way. This card meant the world to me because we were so devastated he was sick. I mean.. who puts there cat to sleep just because they are diabetic?! Apparently, it's a very nasty disease in cats & they are very difficult to take care of. I am so appreciative of their support. Read Less

I absolutely love bringing my dog here! He has received excellent care ever since he was 7 weeks old. All of the techs and doctors are incredible and my dog loves them all! My only complaint is every time I've brought him in to receive a service, after his initial puppy visits, I've asked for a price beforehand. This is so I can better manage my budget and not be surprised when I'm leaving. Every time I've asked for the price, I get told 2 different prices. I get told a certain amount over the phone, and another one when I go to pay. When I have previously explained the price differences when I'm checking out, I'm met with a blank stare. It's extremely frustrating, but I pay it since it's my dog and there's no resolution offered to correct the discrepancy. I've never had any other challenges with the service, it is always top notch! The team is always willing to answer all my questions and they take great care of my dog, I couldn't ask for better care for him.Read Less

I have brought my dog, Shadeaux, to them ever since he was a baby. He just turned 8. They are very compassionate and thorough. He has had many strange ailments throughout his life, and they have given him the best care I could have ever asked for. A year and a half ago, they literally saved his life. I brought him in for a broken tooth and found out he was actually dying. After many tests we discovered he had an extremely rare reaction to his vaccinations. It was a long road, but they were there every step of the way. Dr. Marchal was awesome, and we always love Dr. Nix. They are very adamant about pain management, which is a relief because a vet that used to be employed preformed surgery on Deaux and refused any type of pain medication. The next day (after staying up all night with my him due to the pain) Dr. Nix immediately prescribed him Tramadol. They are also very accommodating with animals that have horrible social anxiety like mine. I even had a mouse for about 2 years who developed a large tumor and they put him to sleep for me, and sent a beautiful card shortly after. As long as I live in this area I will never go to another vet.Read Less

I have been with Chateau for only a few years. I moved out of the area 7 months ago yet I will still drive the 35 miles to get here. There is something about Dr. Nix that I feel a deep trust in not just her knowledge and her communication style but a practicality and she is not judegemental. This is important when your dogs have had chronic issues (skin, diabetes, cancer, new puupy) The ladies who work there are extremely friendly, remember my name, not just the dogs.... I find them a quality operation and can strongly recommend them. I have had a lot of experiences with vets unfortunately, due to chronic issues. Not all vets are quite as kind hearted, and this one actually suits me best. I have been through the very expensive clinics, emergency clinics and vets in a few states - some have been great and some have been too business minded. I find the treatments offered are practical, not just revenue earners. As consumers as well as animal lovers/owners, you want to know that what is recommended is practical and necessary. I've brought my pets here since either 1979 or 1980. For all that time we have had at least one dog or cat. Sometimes many more. The care is excellent and always has been. So i was at the beach in Alabama for a family vacation and decided to bring my dog. Needless to say my dog got very sick and i had to rush him to the nearest emergency vet hospital which was 45 minutes away. By the time i got to the hospital my dog was in very poor condition, so he had to spend the night. After spending the night  at the hospital i was able to transport my dog to chateau vet hospital where they saved my dogs life. I don't have a lot of money but they really worked with me and truly seemed to care about saving my pets life and not about taking my money. Veterinary bills can get pretty expensive but i also understand that they do have to run a business. I moved to the Kenner area recently and my dog got sick, I had read the reviews about Chateau. I chose Chateau regardless of the harsh, emotional review written by David.  I had been in his position before, needing more veterinary care than I could afford. It is a painful experience to go through. You feel so helpless. I went to Chateau because I did more research on the place. I read about Dr Nix and all her work. I went to the clinic and saw for myself how clean, well staffed and friendly they are.  When my dog had a serious problem, they followed up with me with a great deal of care and concern. After my dog was out of their care and with a specialist, they still called to follow up.I cannot say enough nice things about this place.  Having a vet like Dr. Nix with her years of experience is a Godsend.  I suggest that anyone interested in this place go in and see for yourself.  You will find a safe and knowledgeable place you can trust. I'm writing this during a bad time for our family.  We used this vet since we moved here in 07 to take care of our cats.  Recently our cat Stripey developed a discharge in her eye, so I took her there.  She received eye drops after a problem at the desk; the vet didn't like the listed price for the drops, the office manager was out, so the vet changed the drops from the ones she wanted to something else.  I had to ask twice for an antibiotic shot for Stripey .   The next week, Stripey's eye wasn't any better and she had developed a cough and fever.  My wife took her in and the vet gave her an IV.  At this visit they thought it was a virus but didn't give her an antibiotic, only an IV for fluids.  Stripey quit eating and started having trouble breathing so my wife took her in again.  This time the vet thought it was bacterial; gave her a breathing treatment, recommended Lysine and other things.  They did an X-ray and said she did have pneumonia; my wife asked them to keep her overnight, give her IV fluids and antibiotics and was told they didn't keep animals overnight.  We were told to force feed her and give her a med to increase her appetite.  Over the next day and a half, Stripey got worse and we decided to take her to another local vet that friends had recommended.   Never once did Chateau recommend seeing a specialist or putting her into a pet hospital for in-patient care.   At Pet Care Inc, they got us in and admitted Stripey for IV antibiotics and fluids plus other therapies.  When my wife called Chateau to have her test results sent to the new vet, the vet at Chateau was upset we were taking her somewhere else and made my wife feel horrible.  Needless to say, our Stripey died this morning after the staff at Pet Care did everything possible.  The vets at Chateau spent a total of maybe 15 to 20 minutes total during 3 visits while the vet at Pet Care spent 45 minutes during the first visit examining Stripey and talking with us.  I honestly think our cat would still be alive if we had taken her to Pet Care sooner instead of going back twice to Chateau.  If you have a sick animal, take it to a vet hospital like Pet Care instead if a clinic like Chateau.  The charges at Chateau were extreme for the care they gave.  Only 1 antibiotic shot was ever given.  We were told if we felt we could administer pills they would give us a script.  When the amount if charges were questioned the Vet assumed we didn't want care given; as a matter of fact, the vet said very crappy stuff that hurt my wife deeply. I will never set foot in this place again.  And I can't recommend this place to take care of any animal.  My wife is devastated by the loss of Stripey, especially because we trusted these people and we lost our baby.  I am giving one star only because I can't give them a zero. Very very very friendly staff.This is where I bring my spoiled and overweight golden retriever for all of his health and grooming needs.It's right around the area I grew up in, close to the parent's house. Everything is awesome about this place, except that it's very expensive. My dog's food... $80 and it only lasts less than 3 weeks. And not just the food, but their services. It is worth it. If you love your pet and if they're part of the family, then they deserve the very best, right?Side note: my dog is male and every time I send him to get a bath, I pick him up and always find a bow in his hair. Chateau Veterinary Hospital is the only veterinary hospital my pets will ever go. The staff members are all friendly and helpful. One of my dogs is a very shy/ timid dog. Dr. Nix is wonderful with her. She doesn't make her get on the table she just lets her sit next to me on the bench. She talks to her and is ginuine. If there is an emergency they always do their best to get your pet in as soon as possible. Since I have started bringing my pets here in 2006 I have told everyone I know with a pet that Chateau is the place to take your pet. Read Less
