Dr. Wexler and his staff are amazing. They have cared for my African Grey Parrot, "Dingus", for the past 22 years and last year Dingus became very ill. Dr. Wexler diagnosed him with pneumonia and frankly told me he didn't think Dingus would make it. He admitted him to his hospital and took excellent care of him for 10 days. They allowed us to visit and feed him and they even fed him special dishes we prepared for him that we knew were his favorites. They cared for him as though he were their very own pet. I'm a hamster guy and have always been afraid of going to vets for fear of them not knowing what to do with the little guys. I recently brought one girl in for what turned out to be a nasty infection, and had her hospitalized there for 2 weeks. While it turned out there was nothing that could be done, I am confident that the Doctors and everyone there did everything they could for her and cared for her gently, all for an incredibly reasonable rate. Absolute NO for snakes. I own a ball python. His information is outdated and misinformed. He told me to bring my ball python outside for 30 mins a day. This is a nocturnal animal, they dont need sunlight. Also it would stress the poor animal out to be messed with that much. He also told me to feed a 1100 gram snake pinkies. Most ball pythons are BORN eating prey bigger then that. Diagnosed my snake as developing pneumonia after just opening mouth and hearing lungs. No culture or other tests/signs or symptoms other then the snake yawning. Also gave my snake an injection that is known to kill snakes. Baytrill. I did not know that at the time. Anyone who knows anything about snakes or ball pythons knows how wrong this information he told me is. This might be a good place for cats and dogs, but not for snakes. Had to go in for an emergency visit with my rabbit who ripped off some of his nails from the base. Best animal hospital I have ever been to. The staff is amazingly friendly and fast. I had just moved to Lafayette and needed to find a new vet to get my two dogs their rabies shots. I found Wexler Animal Hospital through Google and since their reviews were so great I gave them a try. The people who work here are extremely friendly and were very understanding when it came to my male dog. He is very nervous around strangers and has been since I adopted him from the shelter. While we were in the waiting room he pooped in the floor. The girls up front were amazing about it. They called us back to the room where I explained to the vet that he gets really scared and told her that I had brought a muzzle for him. I put it on him and she tried to make him feel comfortable with her. He still curled up next to my boyfriends feet and peed all over her floor and again they were so amazing with how they handled it.
