Dr. Benbow has been taking care of our Chihuahua, Rico, for nearly 10 years. He has back pain, subluxated patellas (knee caps), and anxiety. She and her staff have always worked with us to give Rico the kind of attention he needs at our check-ups and whenever he has a problem. Our dog, Ghost, has a deformed spine as well as neck issues. He is a rescue dog that we adopted in 2016 and he was born this way. We saw several vets, including a specialist, but could not relieve his pain. Every time he would yelp in pain, we would die just a little bit more. Then we were referred to Dr. Benbow. She has been performing acupuncture on Ghost once a month for almost a year now and the difference in him is amazing!! Dr B. is so warm and loving and the difference in Ghost is truly unbelievable. Recently, our cat Patches was shot by a pellet gun by some terrible innocent person. The pellet was sitting right below his spine slightly to the side causing the back of his body to become lame. We were referred to Dr. Benbow to try acupuncture so that Patches might regain use of his legs. When we first arrived, everyone was so nice and caring towards not only Patches, but me and my boyfriend as well. Dr. Benbow was excellent at answering all of our questions and explaining ...everything she was doing and why she was doing it. She also gave me the confidence to take care of a paralyzed cat, which not many veterinarians had given me. Not that I needed approval, but the pat on the back meant the world to me considering that you weren't trained through life to take care of a paralyzed animal and that she thought I was doing a great job. Even though Patches didn't live to see the benefits of the acupuncture, I believe in my heart that we were getting somewhere and it made his last days on earth more peaceful. My wife is a veterinarian that exclusively sees exotics so we wanted a vet that sees dogs on a daily basis so our senior dog could have someone who is more up-to-date on “dog medicine” (since my wife hasn’t seen a dog patient since vet school). We choose Dr. Benbow since co-workers & friends really loved her. After two visits, we couldn’t be happier with Dr. Benbow, her staff and the treatment of our baby girl. Our senior dog was beginning to slow down a little and we expec...ted arthritis. She confirmed that via x-rays and that the issue is in her back and that all of knees & her hips here in good shape. Our dog has now had two acupuncture sessions, her diet has been tweaked slightly and her daily supplements have been changed to give our older girl more comfort. Just moved to the area.  Took my puppy to Benbow Veterinary.  Was completely satisfied.  Very organized and thorough.  Also, very loving to my dog.  Recently, my dog was bleeding but could not find out where it was coming from.  Called their office and they took me immediately.  They found a small cut on her paw and treated.  Stopped the bleeding right away.  They have called 2 times to check that she was ok....so glad to have a Vet that we trust. After doing some serious research to find an integrative veterinarian for my three girls, I finally  came across Benbow Veterinary Services. I called to make an appointment approximately one week prior to the date I wanted to come in. Sam helped me to set everything up, and she was so kind. Since all of three of my girls were overdue for their annual checkups and vaccinations, Sam was able to schedule all of their appointments on the same day which was extremely helpful in regards to my work schedule. From the moment I walked in the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. Even though I walked in during their morning meeting Matt, the clinic manager, saw how overwhelmed I was and was kind enough to offer to grab my smallest girl, Lily, from me so I could get Gypsy and Daisy settled. Their facility is really perfect. The rooms are spacious, so there was plenty of room for Gypsy, Daisy and Lily to run around while the techs came in to gather information for our visit. I love that they have foam floor tiles to examine larger dogs, because Gypsy isn't very fond of heights. Brooke and Gabbe are wonderful at helping the their patients and pet parents feel comfortable. They went over various questions and the plan of action for the visit before Dr. Benbow came in to work her magic! Dr. Benbow is a fantastic vet. It's obvious she is very knowledgeable and stays up to date on current information pertaining to the care of her patients. She took the time to ask me about each of my girls individually and their specific past issues to determine what their future needs may be. She is adamant about not over-vaccinating and offers titer testing which was one of the reasons I chose to come to her, as over-vaccinating your pets can be just as dangerous as not vaccinating at all. In addition to acupuncture Dr. Benbow also offers Cytopoint injections, which is a biological therapy that works like your dog's immune system, and is used to treat atopic dermatitis which my poor Daisy May is suffering from. Dr. Benbow and I discussed using Cytopoint and agreed it would be best to try to help alleviate Daisy's itching with Hydroxyzine and Omega supplements for the next month and if I do not see any results we will move on to Cytopoint injections. She feels that if it becomes necessary, Cytopoint would be a great solution to Daisy's atopic dermatitis and informed me she uses it on her own pets which in my opinion speaks to how effective it is. We will see what the future holds for Daisy's dermatitis, and I will update my review if Cytopoint injections are necessary. She took her time examining each of my girls, and I did not feel rushed our entire visit. Each staff member makes you feel like your pet's care is important, and that made me very happy! As mentioned in previous reviews, parking at this location is tricky. I recommend making an early appointment before parking in this area becomes an issue. My appointment was at 8 am so I had no problem finding a spot and was able to park directly outside of the clinic. The price for the services we recieved was average compared to other veterinary clinics I've visited in the Metairie area. I will say that because I decided to bring all three of my girls in at once, obviously the amount due was larger than it would be if I chose to space their visits out throughout the year. I was prepared for that going in, and since everyone was quite a bit overdue on vaccinations I didn't really have much of an option. Now that everyone is up to date I plan on spacing their future visits out to make it easier on my pocketbook the next go round. All in all, everyone recieved a clean bill of health and is good to go for another year! I am extremely satisfied with the services I recieved at our first visit. The staff was professional, compassionate and kind. It's hard to find someone you can entrust the care of your furbabies to, and I feel confident and comfortable with doing just that here at Benbow Vet. If you are searching for a veterinarian who truly listens to your concerns and has the best interest of your pets long term health in mind I highly recommend seeking care at BVS. Read Less

Dr. Benbow is an amazing veterinarian and acupuncturist! I have been taking my pets to her for years now (since her clinic was on W. Metairie!) and have always had positive experiences. She is kind, caring, and knowledgeable! Her staff is great and I know they will handle my pets with care. Her acupuncture capabilities are amazing and I have seen how much they have helped my cat Pheonix with his elderly kitty issues as well as pancreatic insufficiency. I would recommend her to anyone who wants the best care for their pet. My husband and I brought our 8 yr old guinea pig, Ravage, to Dr Benbow for acupuncture since she had lost mobility in her back legs. On our first visit, I was struck by how genuinely kind and caring everyone was. Dr Benbow is delightful, knowledgeable, and clearly explained every step of the process as we went through it. Everyone we encountered during our appointments was warm and engaging and displayed a genuine affection and concern for our little one. Our Ravage gained considerable movement and strength in her legs within a matter of days after her first session and maintained that renewed vigor until she passed. We are very grateful for the added quality of life Ravage experienced and for the extraordinary compassion and kindness we experienced from everyone at Benbow when they learned of her passing. This is the veterinarian I have been bringing my dog to since his birth.Food: Yes, they sell dog food and supplements. No, I do not purchase here. (No rating)Service: The staff here is great. They are very polite and friendly (disclaimer: one of my former students is a staff member). There is little to no wait when I come in for my dog's regular visits. Services include traditional pet care, nutrition, and acupuncture. Any issue my dog has had when having a visit have been fully addressed and resolved. Dr. Benbow is friendly and doesn't cut words with me, although if she uses the technical speak she does with me with other clients, that could potentially be an issue, if they do not have a similar knowledge of biology and pathology. Although trained in the "up sale", the staff is never pushy about attempting to get you to purchase products on site, outside traditional perscriptions. 4 Stars Facilities: This clinic has moved a few times since I started being a client. When I first brought my dog, if was located in West Metairie. The last 2 locations have been on Old Metairie Road, which, outside the city, is not a difficult drive from New Orleans proper. I am not a big fan of the direct off-street parking, because that thoroughfare can be busy, but it suffices. Also, the train can be an issue if one happens to be in the area at the wrong time.The newest incarnation of the clinic itself is in a strip mall style building. The interior is quite nice, very aesthetic, roomy, and clean to a fault. I like it. 4 StarsOverall: I have never been disappointed with service here, and Dr. Benbow is a consummate professional. My only negatives have been noted above, mostly in regards to the parking situation and the mildly inconvenient location. I find it can be a little hit in the pocketbook on cost, but as I don't frequent any other vets, I have no point of comparison.  This not enough to dissuade someone from using the clinic for their pet's care.  4 Stars (Above Average) Read Less

My 10 year old beagle was having problems walking because of arthritis and spondylosis. Our vet (an uptown vet), was just giving her pain medication, and wasn't helping her. He said she needed more, and more pain medication. I found Dr. Benbow online while searching for a pet acupuncturist. When we arrived, my dog was stiff like a robot. She left feeling better, and walking better after the acupuncture session. Not only did Dr. Benbow help my dog with several acupuncture follow ups, but she also changed her diet, and gave me a lot of tips to improve my dog's overall health. Dr. Benbow not only saved my dog, who now looks and acts like a puppy, but was always available for questions, and her gracious team has always been there for us (we have 3 dogs). She doesn't work on Thursdays because she takes these days to study and keep up with the latest medical knowledge. Dr. Benbow, Victoria, Brooke, Jessica, and all the women that work at this office are fabulous! I can't say less. We have three older dogs that require plenty of care and Dr. Benbow has helped them all tremendously! She counsels us on all types of treatments; from the preventive and progressive approach as well as traditional medicine. She is extremely knowledgeable, thorough and very caring. This veterinarian would not help us with end-of-life decisions for our 12 year old dog who was suffering from incontinence, temper, and back problems.  Instead, the vet insisted on expensive procedures and tests that would not improve the quality of life for our dog.  Yes, euthanasia is a tough thing to consider for pets but I expect a vet to present options and assist with this decision if needed.  I will not use this veterinarian again. Best thing I could have ever done for my dog, my dog was having spine and disc problems for over 6 months. I have taken him to vet all over the city, Dr. Benbow did one treatment of acupuncture and I saw results instantly. I was truly considering putting my dog to sleep because I could not stand to see him in so much pain and on so many medications. However as I sit here awaiting his second treatment of acupuncture I am now much more hopeful that he will be back to normal. I met Dr. Benbow about 7 years ago when my Pug became paralyzed. My Peaches had 3 back surgeries and still could not walk or urinate on her own. Though her vet was very skeptical I brought Peaches to Benbow Veterinary Services. There were no guarantees only a valiant effort and research on Dr. Benbow's part. It was the last day and I was going to have to put Peaches down because she kept getting infections from being catheterized as her bladder also locked up. After her acupuncture session and no release I took her to her Vet with a very heavy heart. As I sat with her waiting and her Vet asked "any luck" I motioned No, and he gave his condolences and said he would be right with us. As her doc walked away the FLOOD gates opened and her bladder released!!!!! We continued with the acupuncture and eventually Peaches walked again. Dr. Benbow gave me 6 more wonderful years with my little girl. Peaches was 15 years old when she passed in May 2014. What a wonderful experience for both of our geriatric pups, Jazz, who is 14+ and Rex, who is 11+. Jazz had surgery this spring to remover a cancerous growth on his lip, and his recovery was amazing. Jazz is now undergoing acupuncture for arthritis. He just had his fourth acupuncture session with Dr.Benbow this morning. The improvement is remarkable. Jazz and Rex have been to a lot of veterinarians over the years, and we have never been in such a caring, loving environment. Dr. Benbow and her staff are awesome! Everyone is so friendly, and the office is so clean and modern. The exam room features a big open space with a large puzzle piece mat on the floor where Dr. Benbow sits on the floor to examine your pet (at least that's what she did with my big dog!). She is very knowledgeable and down to earth, and I didn't feel rushed at all. She gave me and my dog the time and attention we needed. They sent me home with a tote bag and a bunch of fun goodies, and two days later I received a hand written thank you note from Dr. Benbow!
