I have been bringing my pets here to Dr McKenna and Lakeside Animal Hospital for 18 years now. And there is only 1 other vet I'd use, but only in a pinch. When my schnauzer was sick Dr McKenna was dead on with his diagnosis. I got a second opinion to be sure because I didn't want to lose my dog, but this guy just made me realize even more how special Dr McKenna really is. And his diagnosis was spot on. My dog passed anyway, but not for lack of effort, and the treatment was about 1/3 the cost of what I was expecting. He did his own blood work in house for a few dollars and with immediate results, instead of hundreds of dollars and a week of waiting on results. And when my lab died from old age, Dr McKenna buried her for me for free. He does it for all his clients as a courtesy. We just couldn't go through that again. He's truly amazing. In a class all by himself. Even their heartworm and flea treatment meds are cheap- same price as the online discounts. You can't go wrong here- they are awesome. Truly the best. Read Less

After almost twenty  years of services I saw the new older female vet with my sick cat and have not been back since!!!  She never even looked at my cat before she told me I needed to seek medical attention for myself(my sick cat bit me three times) bc she was reporting me for my cat not having a rabies.  First of all if she would have even looked at my animal she would clearly see the ear tip and know my cat has a rabies Injection on file with a different vet.  Never once did she ask what was wrong with my cat or even look at my cat.  I was appalled by her actions and stormed out. I took my cat to the vet that my dog rescue uses at Ark Animal Hospital where she was treated non stop for five days!!  I tried to make an appt for my dog today to see only Dr.McKenna and was refused services bc I stormed out really??  What about your vets behavior?? Was she reprimanded for her actions!?!?!  I guarantee not and I was never reported!  I will never refer another person here and plan to make sure my current friends and clients whom use this clinic will be notified about the sub par vet services here with the new staff. I looked and looked for a nice grooming place for my Tipsy and came across Lakeside Animal and saw all the great reviews and I gave it a try! They treat her like she is one of their own and love on her her so much my baby loves it and is spoiled!!!The grooming manager is so freaking Awesome!!!!!!!! We just recently adopted a rat terrier and we were looking around the New Orleans area at different vets to bring her for her annual vaccinations/checkup. Price is not necessarily an issue but I was looking at her old records from Metairie Small Animal Hospital and the visits were costing anywhere from $250-$300!! This is just for regular vaccinations and a checkup. Lakeside Animal Hospital charged $100 flat after taxes! And they clipped her nails. Dr. McKenna was extremely professional and treated our dog with respect. You can tell he really loves animals and wants to make sure they are healthy. Don't judge this place by the outside. Best-kept secret for vet care in the New Orleans area!  Dr. McKenna is an optimist when everyone else is gloom and doom. My old rescued border collie has congestive heart disease, for which Dr. McKenna is now treating her. Before a friend told me about Dr. McKenna, I had taken her to two other vets. One of them talked me into putting her down prematurely, and as we were saying our goodbyes, she perked back up and I could not go through with it! Thank God I did not do it, for the very next day I took her into Dr. McKenna and he prescribed the correct meds for her and even talked about the "long term." He did not give me false hope yet he never said anything negative.  It's his holistic approach and positive energy that have helped her hold on this long! I love Dr. McKenna and the entire staff! They treat your pet exceptionally well! No matter what I bring my dog in for whether it is a check up or an emergency they are always calm and extremely informative. Dr. McKenna's assistant David is absolutely awesome with the animals. Warm service. Attention to what needed to be taken care of with my pup, and prompt  service with great prices. I live uptown and it was well worth the drive.(considering the uptown vets wanted to charge quite literally double for the same procedures. (you know who you are prytania....)
