Please don’t bring your pet (Met-Vet)to this facility. They only care about how much money you will pay for your pet. They take advantage of the love you have for your pet. Our pet was not there a full four days and our bill was over $4000 (no surgery). We wanted to pick up our pet on Monday and had to contact them every night and morning to check on him! FR. Joyner and Dr. DANIRLS Lagarde, and Dr. HYMEL SAID HE WAS DOING FINE! LIARS! The doctor was supposed to follow up morning with recommendation of medication to administer so we could bring him home on Monday, but unfortunately our pet passed away late Sunday evening. We called Monday morning. Really? We felt our pet was kept alive at their facility because of the use of an IV. We also feel the doctors knew our dog did not have a chance of recovery and only wanted money. PLEASE AVOID THIS FACILITY AT ALL COSTS. My fur baby was given a long duration eithanizing due to the animal hospital wanted to milk me after I gave the 2000 deposit! They gave pre-medication for eurhanizing and than Phenobarbital in large quantities on third day knowing he was dying from a cluster of seizures that the last one lasted over three hours! They claim he had fever of 107 and later had temp at 96(hyperthermia and hypothermia)! Would this hurt his organs as well the brain not getting the right amount if blood in his circulatory organ! He finally gurgle on our last day we saw him that the vet said oh he is fine! He needs to be perched up so the fluids do not build up! Vet was never transparent with us! Never advised us about euthanizing! Vet kept saying he is fine! His organs were failing as I know the sound of a death rattle! The digestive tract has shut down! The secretions from the other other organs have not that build up because the esophagus doesn't have the energy to swallow! Respiratory problems as well collapsed his lungs! MED-Vet is the worst! Read the negative reviews before even thinking to go there! Read Less

My tiny Yorkie is alive and well now due to the expertise and compassion of Drs. Ralph and K (the surgeon, not sure how to spell his name). Dr. Ralph kept us informed twice a day as promised. Granted the cost is higher here than a regular vet, but when you need specialized care they have it. Worth every penny to us. Our primary vet said they were the only ones qualified in her case and I trust him wholeheartedly. Maddie is back to her usual self and I am one happy camper. We had to euthanize our snowshoe cat - It appears to have had FIP, which is the most difficult to diagnose fatal disease there is for cats. The folks at MedVet worked hard for 3 days to keep her alive and definitively identify the disease, but it moved too quickly. I brought her back to MedVet on a Sunday night to put her out of her misery, and the doctor working was named Jennifer Zamora. To call her bedside manner "outstanding" still undersells it - She had so much empathy and compassion you'd have thought it was her own cat. She was incredibly supportive of the decision to euthanize (she initially tried to offer alternatives, which is her job, but after almost $3K's worth of effort to only see the cat get worse, it was time). Kudos are also due for one Ryan Kirk, a nurse at the front desk who quite liked our cat and was genuinely disappointed to see the disease best her health. He too was incredibly kind and supportive in listing all the post-mortem options for us. As a 24-hour vet, the business is inherently going to result in some degree of disappointment or error. Don't let the 3 stars fool you. They are a class act and know what they're doing. If you have an animal emergency at an off hour, there isn't anywhere better in Louisiana to go. Read Less

MedVet New Orleans took amazing care of my dog when he was admitted to the ICU for seizures resulting from a brain tumor that they discovered during his stay. They contacted me frequently to update me on his status, provided visitation options, and made me feel confident that he was getting the best care, even when he was the sickest I had ever seen him. They also talked through all our options for post-discharge, and worked with me to tailor a plan based on his needs and our financial situation. I will highly recommend their facility to anyone in the area with a sick pet or emergency event, because as scary and uncertain as those things are, it's comforting to know that MedVet will take care of everything. I would recommend MedVet for any late night pet emergency. Dr. Yates, as well as the kennel workers and vet techs, were knowledgeable, attentive, and took great care of our dog. Beware as they are expensive, but understand they are an emergency hospital with 24-hour staff and resources that smaller animal hospitals do not have. I had a bit of sticker-shock since they make you pay upfront for treatment, but it was worth the quality of care our pup was given. I wouldn't recommend them as a primary vet, but as an emergency hospital, they are top-notch. Our dog slipped a disc in his back 2 months ago and was paraplegic. We rushed to MedVet since it happened late at night. He got outstanding care from Dr. Yates, the resident neurosurgeon, and the neuro vet techs and kennel staff. After a LOT of TLC from us and the folks at MedVet, our dog can now walk again and is pain-free! I found out that Dr. Yates is the ONLY VETERINARY NEUROSURGEON IN LOUISIANA. They have a CT-scanner and rehab clinic on-site. They told me they will soon have their own MRI machine. They are staffed and open 24-hours a day. Yeah, these services drive up the overall cost, but they can provide all this instantly and without transporting your pet to other clinic across town. I think it€s worth it. My gripes: They need to get a debit card machine. I thankfully had enough money in my savings to cover this emergency surgery, but they didn€t have a debit card machine! My credit card limit wasn€t high enough to pay for the full vet bill which needs to be paid before your pet can receive care (several thousand $$ - it included everything - the surgery, all drugs, all supplies needed, the CT-scan, the 3 night stay, and taxes). They gave me the option to open another credit card, like a Vet Care Card or something. No thanks! I had the money, if only they had the proper card reader! Luckily, my husband had a credit card that barely had a high enough limit to pay the bill. Also, on that trip and on follow-up visits, I found the front desk staff to be a little stand-offish and not very attentive. Had one lady that was typing on the computer as I walked up. She glanced up for a split second and didn€t acknowledge me. Took a couple of minutes for her to finish whatever she was doing and ask what I needed. Read Less

I believe there are some very caring, great people who work for MedVet, who truly do care about the health and welfare of animals, but something basic needs to be established about this place: It's first priority is to generate profit. Taking care of pets comes secondary. IMO, it's just the way the place is designed. If you bring your animal in, you're going to pay anywhere from three to ten times the cost of other veterinary places. MedVet is not a small team of people who want to heal animals. It's a multi-state, large scale corporate operation that is fine-tuned to exploit people at some of their weakest moments, when their loved ones are critically injured. I don't even want to go into detail of my personal story. It's like many others here. I took my pet to them because they were the only ones around when I thought my pet was in bad shape. They definitely helped, but they also ran a battery of unnecessary things, prescribed questionably-necessary meds, and tried to strong arm me into providing more service than needed. While I'm grateful they played a role in helping my pet, I'm also greatly saddened that the industry has come to this, filled with corporate monsters who have managed to itemize every possible extra, decent thing they can to for animals and charge you through the nose. You can't convince me that this way is necessary. I know better. I know of other Veterinary operations that provide superior care for a fraction of the price - MedVet is something new and different. It's an institution that exploits suffering. There's a sense of evil about this place. You can also see indications of this by examining reviews by employees posted on the Glass Ceiling web site. Good young people who want to help, that are treated like dirt by management, because in the end, it's all about money. I don't care how superior their hours or resources are. When you care more about money, you can't provide as good a level of care. There are places in the city that aren't like this. Read Less

I was initially wary about coming here because of the negative reviews, but I actually had a great experience. My regular vet recommended I come here to see the neurologist, Dr Yates, who was amazing. I was very upfront with them about my budget, so there were no surprise costs during my visit. He put my mind at ease about my dog, and seemed very genuinely concerned and gave me a very clear diagnosis and plan for his treatment. When the vet tech came in to explain pricing, she did make sure to explain that their prices are high because they are a *specialty* office with specialized doctors. She even gave me a couple of other recommendations in case my budget wouldn't allow us to get his MRI at this location. Overall great experience, just make sure you're upfront with them about what your finances are and they'll work with you. Read Less

We came here in January 2, 2017 and brought our semi feral cat to get treated for what we thought was a BB gun. They have two waiting areas - the hectic dog section and the cat section. I was thankful to sit in the cat section because some of the sick dogs were breathing loudly, barking, and just didn't feel well.I thought it was strange that they took the cat in the back and I was told to just sit in the waiting room while they did the exam. That is not what I'm used to doing at a regular vet.It happened that the wound was just a cat bite and the Vet recommended antibiotics. Since Catsy is semi-feral, we opted for the antibiotics in a shot instead of trying to force down a pill for 14 days.Catsy felt better after her wound drained and our vet bill was $209. They also emailed us an explanation of everything which is a nice touch. Read Less

After reading some of the negative reviews, I was a little wary of bringing my cat here but when he started having respiratory issues on New Year's Eve we felt like we didn't have much of a choice. We made the drive to Metairie and kept our fingers crossed! The hospital staff were very friendly and quick to get my cat in the back for an examination once I told them about his difficulty breathing. Within a few minutes the vet tech came out to get an explanation of symptoms and within 30 minutes or Dr. Castro brought us in the room to discuss my cat's status and our options. He was very kind and honest with us about our options and their costs, recommending to us that we get the basics done at the hospital and save the rest of the tests for our regular vet, where they would likely be cheaper. We waited another hour or so for the X-rays to be done and the results to come back and they gave us a prescription, detailed discharge instructions and sent us on our way. The following day I was worried that my cat was getting worse so we returned to the ER just to make sure he was okay. We saw a different doctor (forgot his name - sorry!) who assured me that everything was fine and the meds just take some time to kick in. Since we were just there the night before, they didn't charge me an exam fee! Finally, I made a follow up appointment with my regular vet and called Medvet so ask them to send over the records from our ER visits and it turns out that they already took care of that! All in all, I had a WONDERFUL experience with their Emergency Room where my cat was treated well and we were treated with respect. We were never pressured to pay for expensive add-ons and the doctors actually suggested we opt for more thorough testing with our regular vet, where it would be less expensive. Read Less

This place is horrible. They've neglected to take care of my cats body for over 2 years. They collect huge fees but don't act like they care about the animals. I took my cat there 2 and a half years ago to be treated for his first signs of congestive heart failure. I sat in the waiting room for several hours before the doctor told me he would fine, but then they called the next night and said his heart had just stopped. I went in the next day to collect his collar and work out the instructions for his remains. I just got a letter dated Oct 24 (sent Dec 19) that said his body is still at their clinic. They are so negligent they never even sent his body to be cremated. I can't get them to call me back to take care of it once and for all. This establishment doesn't deserve to be in business and I'm left wondering if negligence is also the reason my cat died so suddenly. Read Less

I hate this place. This past weekend I found our cat Rampart in the street in front of our house not moving, but awake and able to move a little. I thought he was hit by a car, but when we took him to our regular vet she found out through X-ray's that he was actually shot in the leg to slow him down and then shot in an extreme act of animal cruelty by some psycho between the eyes execution style and in turn had an air rifle pellet lodged in the middle of his brain. She said he could survive, but would be blind with neurological damage. We had to give it a shot and she gave him medicine to reduce the brain swelling and it did wonders and after that he was walking around and we took him home. She said if he gets worse to bring him to MedVet for the same medicine and to be treated for anything else since my vet isn't 24 hours. That was the worst mistake we could make. Well he got worse and we arrived at MedVet and they immediately took Rampart back without explaining anything and we were brought into a room where we then sat. For 2 hours. We thought he was getting treatment and thought it was odd no one had spoke to us yet. While waiting I was reading the bad reviews they had on here thinking that people were exaggerating, but they weren't. Finally a Vet came in and apologized for the long wait and discussed what she thought should happen which is to reduce the brain swelling again. We were perplexed because we thought he had already received that while we were waiting, but no; they let our cat sit back in the back with a bullet in his brain for 2 hours. We agreed to treatment and to have him stay over night and when they brought him out they brought him in time for us to watch him die. He went into cardiac arrest right in front of us. They rushed him back and the vet returned saying he was dying and it was time to put him down. Well we were hysterical, mainly because we kept asking why he didn't get treatment immediately and that he could have possibly made it had he not sat for hours in the back. The vet said he would have died regardless, but honestly she doesn't know that. It was awful. It mainly seemed like they were more interested in racking up as much bills as possible than to save our cat. The staff were compassionate, but that doesn't make up for the lack of urgency that occurred. If you want your pet to live please bring them anywhere else but MedVet. Read Less

We were treated very disrespectfully at Medvet. We had a 10 am appointment for our dog. When we arrived at 9:50 am and filled out paperwork we were put in a room. Staff came in about 15 minutes later and asked us (in the most sarcastic tone) why we were so early, that our appointment was at 11 am. We are very certain that we confirmed a 10 am appointment due to other things scheduled. We were then told that they had called us to confirm the day before, which had not at all happened. We pulled out our phones to show the call registry and the attendant walked away. We waited from 10 am until after 4 pm to find out the results from our dog's sonogram--in the lobby. When my daughter went to ask staff when we would be hearing from someone (after patiently waiting for 5 hours), a woman with maroon-color hair (Courtney) told her to go sit down. I have never seen such pathetic and disrespectful service by staff. Medvet should be ashamed. When faced with often serious diagnoses for our pets the last thing we need is to be treated rudely by staff. It's stressful enough. However, that said, the doctor was great! Dr Arceneaux was knowledgeable and kind. Wish he could convey some of that to his staff. Read Less

Granted the cost is higher here than a regular vet, but when you need specialized care they have it. Worth every penny to us.

Read Less
