Dr. Megan is truly amazing. On a trip to New Orleans, we found a very sick and injured little kitten. Being from the northeast, we were nervous that the level of vet care in the south wouldn't be the same. Boy, were we wrong. Not only was the care outstanding, but the price was much less than at an emergency vet in our area. They were able to save her life and get her stable enough for travel, and now she's home safe and sound. Of course, she has a long road ahead, but she's alive and loved. I had a really good experience here, aside from my cat being sick of course. We went after regular hours to get emergent care and we very well taken care of. Mai at the front desk and Dr. Wier went above and beyond to make sure that my pet was okay. His medical chart was emailed to me and then sent over to his regular vet, and I got a call the day after his visit regarding his health status to make sure he was feeling better. I didn't feel coerced into accepting non-vital medical treatments and the prices were lower than what I expected them to be. They were respectful of any decisions I made, his plan of care was discussed thoroughly, and all of my concerns were addressed. We later got a checkup at his regular dr, who remarked that he wouldn't have known our baby was sick just by looking at him. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. I've liked all of the vets we've brought our cats see here. Sometimes the wait to check out can be a bit long. There is a separate waiting area for cats in the back of the store area just check in at the front desk and let them know that's where you'll be. BEWARE: Where to even begin.. over a year ago we rushed my dog to Metairie small animal unfortunately my beloved pet did not pull through. I found the service adequate at the time of course I was destroyed by the passing of my pet so I gave the service very little thought. When I checked her in I filled out all the standard paperwork including a credit card authorization. I was notified the following morning at 6 a.m that my baby did not recover from surgery. I was never given a total, and I told the voice on the phone to settle the bill. I never received a single receipt, I never heard from the hospital on this matter again. I continued to see doctors here for the past year several times. Cut to 3 weeks ago an out of state lawyer contacts me, threatens me with a lawsuit for a supposed unpaid bill (one I have never seen). I have called the Vet several times and have never heard back from anyone with any authority or even been offered an explanation or a copy of this "bill".  Bad form, bad business practices I will never use this place again Read Less

My Golden Retriever, Bocce, will be 12 in May of this year. He's been with me thru Katrina and all that followed. He had to see a Specialist recently for his eye. My regular Vet referred me to see Dr Mouney. Dr Mouney was very nice. She operated on my boy and he is home and recovering nicely. I'd highly recommend MSAH to anyone. When I dropped Bocce off I was very nervous because he isn't a regular patient there. As I drove off I saw that they already had Bocce outside on a leash for a walk. Dr Mouney spoke with my regular Vet after our first appointment to discuss the surgery she was recommending. Dr Mouney called me after surgery to let me know how it went. She called again first thing the next morning to let me know that he had eaten and had a good night. It was as if she had treated him since he was a puppy! Had an emergency situation 7am on a Sunday and they were able to see my dog right away. Staff was VERY friendly and attentive. I was so fortunate to have my little Shih-Tzu who was in need of a forever home come into my life in November of 2016. We quickly became very attached to one another. In February, I had to travel to New York for a few days and couldn't take my little guy with me. My relationship with MSAH has been over 30+ years in the making so I felt confident leaving my pet with them. Vet and owner insulted my friend for questioning their pricing and methods and came at her for waiting a few days to bring her dog in as her income doesn't budget rape prices . She drove an hour very cold rain on a Sunday because she loves her dog ; the fact she wanted to be sure he was in fact needing of vet Rude and perhaps if prices were more affordable more people could budget for them ! When not one formal test other than a finger in dogs butt to get some fecal cost 100 bucks and then formal tests would be double a regular office visit there is a problem. Tests done at regular visits or er still have to be sent off so why double price for the collect of the sample ? We need an affordable solution for pet care With no attitudes or insults. Read Less

We had to find a place at 8:00 pm to put my cat to sleep. I went to another place before coming here. The other place seemed cold with no compassion. I knew immediately when we walked in the doors at MSAH, that we were in the right place for my cat to cross over. The staff, along with the veterinarian, understood the pain we were going through. I have been through surgeries and cancer treatments with my "kids" and the fine staff at MSAH. I could never imagine taking a pet or any animal in need of care anywhere else than there. I chose to visit this business due to a Sunday emergency with my cat. I was VERY impressed with every aspect of my visit. The front desk crew was polite and efficient, and the doctor and vet techs were professional. I was most impressed with the vet's sensitivity to my ability to pay for services. She quoted the price of each lab before proceeding, and didn't make me feel guilty for having limited means. At one point, I became a little emotional, and she encouraged me to help myself to coffee and water in the lobby, and even had a tech escort me to make sure coffee had been made! Small gestures like those take the edge off of a stressful situation and demonstrate the true humanity of the caretakers. Beyond that, she was very thorough in her efforts to diagnose my cat's ailment. MSAH is not my regular vet, and although I will probably continue to visit them because of transportation logistics, I will not hesitate to recommend MSAH to friends and family! Read Less

I normally don't do negative reviews, but this is the second time I haven't had the best experience. It could just be the cat vets there, because I've only heard great things from the dog owners. So if you have a dog, they're great. However I wouldn't go here if your cat is sick. Two out of the three times I've been there, the doctors really weren't confident in possible issues with my cats or the questions that I had. It was almost like they were just guessing-test-negative. In both negative experiences, my cats were really just given anti-nausea medications and were fine. I do understand the importance of testing for possible things, however, spending $400 for basically having my cats get anti-nausea medicine is completely unacceptable. Not to mention the fact that I requested the doctor that I DID have a good experience with (Dr. Mary), and was told I was getting her, and when I showed up it was not my doctor. Another pet peeve I had was my cats' birthdays were wrong in the system. For one cat the year is correct, but everything else is wrong. For the other, they had him in system as being 10 years old. He's only 5! Now while this may not seem like that big of a deal, I know cats can possibly be treated differently depending on age. Either way, I'd like them to be organized enough to at least have my cats' correct information. I still don't know if my cat is going to be ok. He's still showing the same symptoms, yet all tests came back negative. So long story short--dog owners, you're fine. This place is a life saver. I went to the clinic last night having a full emergency my dog was hit by a car. This is the only after hours clinic I could find and thankfully the staff all live close by. We called on the way and they were there when we got there. Normally vets and groomers and places like that make my dog so nervous it's like she can smell the fear but she was almost excited to get in this place! It really is a relaxing atmosphere. The staff was so sweet and gentle with my dog.  I was satisfied with the exam they performed luckily my dog didn't sustain any injuries and I was very satisfied with the cost. I was expecting after hours emergency vet bills to be hundreds of dollars but they saw her for $112 and her pain medicine was around $30. Truly a life saver. Read Less

My dog became a patient here in about November of 2014 after being a patient at a crappy vet clinic.   I give this hospital 5 stars for telling me that Cyclosporine was not discontinued and that they had it in stock and helped my dog get back on track with antibiotics after I was lied to by VCA.   I give them 5 stars for their employee (my neighbor before I became a client)  who told me to stop the frontline and sentinel and try comfortis and sentinel after hearing my constant complaints about the drugs including steroids, sprays, shampoos prescribed by VCA, simply because they didn't sell comfortis.  Her recommendation  fixed the problem back then.  Yay!... (vets now say it was something else and not flea related  but no this employee was right, it did fix the problem because I SAW the difference back then.)  What I didn't understand is when I finally made it in for vet care, why that employee was no longer there and no one had claimed to know her.  The itching problem resurfaced in 2012 when my Dog and I were moved into another apartment-type community and the comfortis was no longer working.  I give them 1 star because the stupid idiot staff here scanned my dog before a dental instead of simply asking me to bring my dogs microchip ID info in with me when I brought her in.  I won't go into all of those details but this goes back to denial by Petfirst of a legitimate insurance claim by a prior vet and the refusal of VCA to provide a complete set of my dog's records to me to give to her 2nd vet.  Btw, Petfirst is owned by HomeAgain, the microchip company so if they ask you about  selling you an insurance policy while you are doing business with them for the chip renewal, REFUSE TO BUY!   (My dog is no longer a patient with the second vet because her partner, who had never seen my dog, started trying to cause trouble with me and the front desk staff when I went to pick up her comfortis, trying to tell me I was killing my dog by giving her sentinel and comfortis, so I left that 2nd vet because of her partner's behavior). The doctor here refused to believe that the scanning of my dog caused this, refused to believe that I was never asked to bring in her microchip info before her dental, refused to anesthetize my dog without seeing a cardiologist for $450 (who later said no anesthesia).  this later led to her needing 26 teeth removed and she is recovering.  Yes another cardiologist for $450 later said do the anesthesia and it has been done, along with the removal of 26 teeth for $1900.   So was their Cardiologist ultimatum even really necessary or just another way to rack up vet fees?  Dr. Michael Graham is a great doctor for general health but an unconfident surgeon and he will bounce you around and defend his stupid staff who will help VCA no matter what, so keep that in mind.  They also will wage war on you if you price shop for your dog's Rxs and they started trying to cause trouble at the pharmacy I have been going to for years.   For example, they were charging me $1.56 each for her Theophylline 100mg tablet.  I found it at my pharmacy for $.28 each.  And so that is a reason to start trying to stir up trouble at my pharmacy?  Only unprofessional and dysfunctional jackasses would behave this way and that is the staff at MSAH.  They are idiots and they think they know it all and their neglect in the proper care of my pet just resulted in an intense oral surgery and 26 teeth being removed by another vet.  I hope you get your Karma for your behavior towards me, your neglect in the care of my pet, and unnecessary and unprofessional trouble-making bullshit with my pharmacy, and for her suffering as a result of your dysfunction, unprofessionalism, greediness, arrogance, ignorance, and blatant stupidity. This review is strictly customer service based, as I have not picked up my pooch yet.  I was told that they had visiting hours.  However,When I called to ask if I could come visit my puppy I was told that visiting hours were 9 am - 5pm. I mentioned that I would not make it by then.  I thanked them anyway, although I was bummed. Then before I could say goodbye on the phone, a voice said "would you like me to get an update on her?"It was like music to my ears. Some of these vets may be okay, but there is one in particular that is a butcher. No loyalty to customers, and they could care less what's actually wrong with your animals. One of my dogs is dead because of their carelessness. Do yourselves a favor and don't let these people trick you. The smiles are a facade. Astrid went into Anaphylactic shock after being stung by a wasp at a nearby dog park. Both vets were surprised to see this reaction but were prepared and acted quickly. She was watched through the night and she was comfortable there when I went to pick her up. I went to SMAH to see Dr. Mouney for a second opinion regarding my cat's eye issue.  She was recommended by Dr. Amy Perkins at Cat Hospital at 1500 Veterans.  The SMAH is very large, with a pet store, huge waiting area, and it's hustling and bustling with sick furry patients.  There was a wait, but we enjoyed observing all the other dogs and cats in the waiting area or coming out of their appointed vet offices.  Dr. Mouney was on point and gave us an excellent eye exam.  In my case, Dr. Amy Perkins and Dr. Mouney gave us the same exact prognosis.  Bill $150. If the eye issue worsens, I will definitely see Dr. Mouney again.  As for regular annual exams and vaccinations and all other issues not related to eyes, we are sticking with Dr. Amy Perkins. I brought my five and a half year old Kuvasz to this veterinary office because he has what looks like an infected bite or scratch. This is not our normal vet's office, but since it was Mardi Gras day it was one of the few open for business. We live on a park, and our dog regularly runs into thick bushes to sniff or chase squirrels. Yesterday morning the scratch appeared after a long night walk. I cleaned it and kept an eye on the wound, but this morning it looked a little worse than usual so I took him to his vet. The staff were very friendly and the lobby comfortable, but the doctor that saw my pet was convinced that the sore on my dog's nose was a tumor. The doctor asked if it was okay to take my dog back to a colleague for a second opinion. I told the doctor that I felt uncomfortable with letting my dog see someone else without my presence, but the doctor insisted that I was not able to join him and his colleague somewhere else in the clinic. I again protested and told them that my dog sometimes gets uncomfortable without me, but the doctor insisted he would just muzzle my dog if necessary (also despite the fact that the wound was on my dog's snout. He tried to write me a few prescriptions for some pain medicine, but I told him that my dog was in no immediate pain (this was also the third time I had mentioned my dog was in no pain....just uncomfortable). I eventually decided to have him take my dog because I felt that his diagnosis was so far from correct that it could not possibly be true. The doctor returned after a few minutes with a microscope slide containing what he claimed was a 'sample'. He said the sample was inconclusive, but offered to do a biopsy for a test. I once again asked him whether this could simply be a bite or a scratch and he was unable to rule those possibilities out either. He mentioned that the mysterious colleague also thought it was a tumor. The doctor never once offered to do a blood or parasite test to see if it was infected. Ultimately, I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS VET OFFICE TO ANYONE I KNOW.Read Less
