I've been bringing my dog and cat here for years. The staff is super professional and do everything in their power to make you and your pet comfortable and enjoy the visit. My dog absolutely loves going here and gets excited when pulling into the parking lot. My cat does not mind the visit either and they have a convenient service where you can drop them off for vet visits in the morning and pick them up at night on your way to and from work. Read Less

The veterinarians, led by Dr. Stefanie Market, and the staff at Canal Street Veterinary Hospital are kind, helpful, and provide excellent service. The clinic provides both routine and urgent care for pets, as well as grooming and boarding. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. I have taken my Westie, Toodle Lou, there for five years. I haven't been there for vet services, but after my regular vet stopped grooming cats, I needed a new groomer who would take care of my pets. My cat is incredibly fluffy and getting a bit older, and a couple of shave downs every year really help her, but because cat grooming can go wrong and because my cat usually requires sedation, I prefer to get her groomed at a vet.So this was my first time getting my cat groomed somewhere new, and it was a GREAT experience. Everyone was very friendly, and they took such good care of my kitty. They even managed to groom and bathe her without sedation! That saves me money and keeps my cat even healthier.While I'll probably stick to my regular vet for vet services, if only because it's so much more convenient to where I live, I will definitely be going here to get my cats groomed in future! I brought my cat here today that has been suffering from a broken tail and subsequent spinal nerve damage since Halloween weekend. Dr Jenny has been helping me try to rehabilitate him w medication and she has been thorough and absolutely wonderful!  So I want to make sure she is not implicated in this situation. But unfortunately she was not there today and my cat needed his bladder expressed as he contracted a bladder infection- Dr Abbey saw him and said she thought he had a UTI- and then proceeded to do a needle biopsy to his bladder against my concerns of bladder leakage and pain for the animal. Than after bringing that to the lab she came back and expressed his bladder w such force that he was salivating from the mouth and screaming in pain - when I said something to her she treated me like I was just a stupid customer - my cat started breathing heavy obviously in distress and pain and she continued to poke and prod on him- I stopped her as he was obviously in deep distress but she was oblivious to the fact - she called Dr Stephanie in as I was trying to get the carrier together to get him out of there.Dr Stephanie came in and  kept me there another 30 min trying to figure out the problem and basically do damage control, wasting my cat's precious time to be helped! But  I finally drove him quickly to the cat hospital to be reassessed where blood work confirmed bladder issues- Abbey the unintelligent vet ruptured my cat's badder by puncturing it first the one thing I asked her about. He died 2 hrs after my visit there though we tried to save him. Abbey has no business in veterinary medicine with zero common sense and a complete lack of compassion she made my animal suffer in pain and did not flinch! Plus she has a God complex at the ripe age of twenty something. A 10 Yr old could have had better sense and been more attentive to the situation. Please do not bring any animal to her you are putting their life at risk. I am getting an autopsy and reporting this malpractice to the Board of Veterinary Medicine and I am completely heartbroken as I surely did not think my animal was not coming home over a bladder expression. Great hospital with friendly staff members, especially Zach and Dr. Stefanie. They took great care of my dog when holding her on the exam room table. Also, it's conveniently located in MidCity and has off-street parking too, which makes it easier to get my dog out of the car. I would highly recommend this place! Read Less

While I do think they are ok for getting my baby his shots annually I will never board my dog with them again. When we dropped him off we asked them to trim his nails and bathe him. They had him for 5 days. When I picked him up today he had not had a bath and his nails had not been trimmed. He also now sounds like he is having a hard time breathing, like he's congested something he didn't do before. They told me they had taken him out for a walk. When I got home he was whimpering to go out , and so I took him. He pooped and peed. I don't think he had been taken out this morning because he only poops twice a day once in the morning and once at night. On top of all that his blanket and toy I had brought with him was given back to me dirty. When we dropped him off they knew the date we were picking him up and we told them we would be there at 9:30 am. They wrote it down so you'd think knowing we'd be there on a set time that they would have him and his things ready. But they did not and that is unacceptable. I will never board with them again. My husband usually took our beloved BJ to the vet and he was always very pleased. BJ got ill and I had to bring her in. I was extremely impressed with Dr Abby. She explained everything she was doing and also advised me that the symptoms were not pointing to anything in particular. I was given meds for BJ and told to contact them if she got worse. Next morning we called because she was getting worse and we were told to let the meds work a little longer. The next morning BJ could not stand with out assistance. She was taken to the hospital where she passed away. I sent a email to advise of BJ passing, I know she was just a dog to some people but she was a family member to us. A response offering condolences would have been nice. I now feel like she was just a source of income. Read Less

Tessa had seen Dr. Stephanie for 6 years...It seemed we could never get her allergies under control...so finally went to a Dermatologist. The last straw was when I brought Tessa in to be groomed and she had an ear infection and no one could take 1 minute to check her ear. They let her suffer with the infection. That was the last straw. We have a new Vet who takes very good care of Tessa now! Read Less

Dr. Stefanie and the entire staff go above and beyond! Our beloved cat has been very sick - unfortunately finally diagnosed with cancer - which has caused us to call and come to the clinic probably once or twice a week for the last two months. If something worries us, Dr. Stefanie will make us bring Cocolita to check her out, often free of charge just to make sure nothing is seriously wrong. And when Cocolita needed to spend multiple days at the clinic, the staff was very sweet and allowed us to come visit her as much as we wanted. I highly recommend this clinic, best vet I ever had! At first, the thing that I loved most about this place was it's proximity to my house and the fact that I could just walk the dog there, instead of loading her into the car. Over the years however, I've really come to respect the entire staff of Canal Street Veterinary Hospital as they have come to truly know my dog and her many traits and behaviors, thereby personalizing my experiences, and knowing how to handle her. Every dog is different, and they recognize that. I also fully trust this vet as they have seen us go through some pretty major life events. 1 surgery, and 2 ER visits. They answer my questions regarding therapy, exercise and medication easily over the phone and if you should need to speak with your vet personally, they always call back the very same day. Their partnerships with Southpaws Surgical in Mandeville and MedVet in Metairie have been exceptional and I take all of their recommendations knowing that they know the very best in the area. Their facility is always clean and comfortable, the staff has always been friendly and caring with the very best bedside manner. They find the joy in my animals as if they were their own, and with that I fully reccomend them to anyone in the Greater Midcity area. Read Less

This is my first experience with any vet clinic, being that this is the first dog i have ever owned. canal st vet is clean and the staff is very friendly and personable. Dr Stefanie made my GF and i feel at ease and explained thoroughly what needed to be done to my pup before anything was done. their prices are reasonable and to top it all off my dog loves coming here. she is normally very skiddish around people she doesn't see everyday, but when entering canal st vet she is wagging her tail and excited to see Dr. Steff and staff. i would recommend Dr. Stefanie to anyone looking for a great place to take their animal for medical care and i hear they are starting to do grooming as well.Read Less
