My Maltese had an emergency and they treated him within an hour. The entire staff from receptionist to nurses to the doctors were very friendly and forthcoming with the information involving my puppyson. The best as far as prices from what I could find after making numerous phone calls. They followed up via phone call to me. And there now my primary Veterinary Care Clinic. The staff here was soooo rude. I went in to buy heart worm medication for my dog because the shelter I adopted him from was out and suggested this one because it's close by to where I live. I asked the first office assistant if they had any and the second assistant immediately cut her off and said are you a client in a really curt manner and I said no I just got my dog from a shelter. Then she said we'll we can't sell you any then. Plus you need records and prescriptions just like regular people need prescriptions from actual doctors.  Part of me wanted to curse her out but I was still in a military uniform so I had to hold my tongue. I love bringing my dog here! The staff is so friendly. We walk in and they immediately greet us. They weigh my dog in first. We usually sit for ten minutes and wait in the lobby. After our very short wait, we are then escorted into a waiting room. We rarely have to wait long for the doctor and his assistant. Dr. Matt is very approachable as well as knowledgeable. I have been very happy with all my services and the staff here. I have had all my animals examined and vaccinated here. I do believe they are a little pricey, but to me it is well worth the price. My issue with this vet is their outrageous prices that feel sort of scammy. I was told by the receptionist that a "dog comprehensive physical exam" is when the doctor looks at your dog and deems them healthy enough to receive vaccinations. That alone cost me $47.80 bringing my grand total to $298 for updated shots and flea meds. At no point did the doctor really examine my dog, he didn't check his eyes/ears/teeth/joints- nothing. So what am I paying for? A look? I compared my invoice to my roommates' dogs' invoice and hers was $106 for all vaccinations and no exam fee. Thanks but no thanks, taking my business elsewhere. Relocating from the northshore I've been putting off finding a new vet for our fur baby Lilly Bean. But when she yelped when I picked her up A few times I decided it was time. On the recommendation of a coworker I called Lakeview Vet. The lady who answered the phone was kind, patient, and listened to my panicked story. She didn't make me feel like I was being dramatic and she also made me feel calm. She booked an appointment for me to come in less than 24 hours later. I saw Dr. Ross, his wife is also at the same office. He was wonderful, listened to my 500 "what-ifs" and kept my pup calm. I'm also grateful the cost didn't break my bank! The only part I didn't love was he sort of left the room and Without me realizing the appointment was over. I also would have appreciated help out to my car with the pup in my hands and a heavyish bag of dog food, but I didn't ask either. I was short cash one month so i went in said i have to go buy the flea pill at the SPCA this month. Drive to other side of town. The tec flipped out went off on me told me said I'm disturbing the way things operate said i can't come in there & do that. gave me my dog records after i forced her to do it. I got verbally beat up in front other customers. I called back found out i was banned for life & could never go back there again. So now i have to drive way on other side of town when i need flea pills until i found another vet. That place is snobbish rude inconsiderate. I had a hard time deciding between 3 or 4 stars.  It's hard to blame doctors for the conduct of their staff  and some of the general public and their stupid social bs gossip.  When I went in, my elderly King Charles Spaniel had no vet and no recent veterinary advice.  You can read about that if you want to.  So I presented the receptionist with her most recent health records, so that the doctor would have something to go on.  And the most recent records I had was from LSU Vet School and a Baton Rouge  Veterinarian's office.  She didn't want them!  I had to talk her into photocopying them! If I am a doctor and I am about to see a patient I would want to see what her latest vet or a vet school would have to say about the status of my elderly patient's health!  So after my insistence, she went ahead and photocopied those recent records.  (I did not go to all of that trouble and expense to go out of town and get those records for my health!)  So, she did eventually photocopy them for him to see first.We were then brought into a room and the only thing the staff at that point, was interested in, was her vaccination records.  I did not have those records except as reminders, but she was current and did show the paranoid and ridiculous staff that she was current and due at the end of the month.  She has never bit anyone, any veterinarian or their staff, so I felt that was  ridiculous.  Whoever was spreading those rumors via the stupid social bullshit gossip channels of New Orleans is an ass.Dr. Levy was a great communicator and was able to verbally express his opinions and answer my questions.  He explained how my dog's health had declined. Although sad and I knew that upon my own observations, having a doctor who can effectively communicate was very important. He identified neurological problems which had really not been previously identified (which kind of bothers me) and explained that takes thousands of dollars to figure out what was going on.  I realize that may be true but some sort of guidance of that issue by the previous vets would have been helpful in caring for her.  Then that same staff member/receptionist came in and asked for my credit card and being that I was in a certain state of shock because my dog was about to be euthanized, I gave it to her before the services were actually performed and she took off with it to the back.  I don't normally do that.  She should have asked me to go to the front desk or to check out at the front desk after the services were performed, which I was going to do anyway.  So that kind of bothered me, again.  But this kind of conduct doesn't surprise me because I have had these same kinds of problems over and over again. Dr. Levy was great - I do recommend him for his ability to communicate scientifically and not expect you to read his mind or interpret crazy social gossip, his understanding of whether or not you have thousands of dollars for vet care, his bedside manner, and his ability to help you come to a decision.  That was the case for me and having a vet who can be in-tuned to what is going on with your situation is important when you make health care decisions for your beloved companion. The prices were definitely reasonable.  I was a little bothered that I got no brochure or receipt from the receptionist re: the crematorium who charged my credit card also, that day.  But we got that straight.  And I do recommend them, also.  I would recommend making those arrangements in advance if you are someone who is involved with your pet and has a distrust of vets offices, as do I.  I am bothered about the situation with the receptionist and the records and credit card situation and the paranoia about her vaccinations being current, but not with the vet care and communication or behavior of the physician.  That is an administrative problem, not a physician problem.  So that is why I have 3 stars, and not 5.(Some nasty people had interpreted my initial comments to infer the worst thing about my love for my pet.  I tried to keep my emotions out of this.  To me, Love is about being sure that my baby was not suffering or getting worse, without a possibility of recovery.   Her quality of life was important.  So my comments about the doctor's ability to effectively communicate with me were very important in this regard.) I wish human doctor visits were as enjoyable as going to the vet! We are first time cat owners and recently took home a kitten found near a donation bin. I had received a flyer in the mail about a free first visit so I gave them a call to ask what all that entailed. I was told the checkup is free but the vaccination fees would still apply--fair enough. I easily made an appointment online for our Ari with Dr. Guichard. Both my husband and I work so I was very happy for a Saturday appointment within a week (never happens with human doctor visits!) All of the staff were extremely polite and professional, from the receptionist to the techs, and Dr. Guichard has such excellent bedside manner. She answered all of our questions (definitely confirm what you find on Google with an actual vet, please!) and was so great with Ari. She informed us about the cost of each service before proceeding to perform said services and before treating Ari with an anti-parasite, she asked if we wanted to see the worms in his stool--kinda gross but also I really appreciate her willingness to thoroughly inform us each step of the way. She even trimmed his nails and gave us some things to think about like declawing, neutering, etc. For my cost inquiring fellow Yelpers, this visit cost us a little under $120 and included two vaccinations and a dewormer. Ari is expected back in three weeks for additional vaccinations. There is certainly a cost to being a pet owner but I think Lakeview Vet is affordable given their high quality of care! Read Less

I have brought my dog in to Lakeview Veterinary Hospital for regular visits and once in an emergency. I have never waited more than about 10 minutes to be seen by a vet and have always been treated as an essential partner in choosing the best option for my dog's care. In one situation, I chose an option that was different from the one the vet clearly preferred. He patiently explained the risks involved so that I could make the best decision, and though he would have chosen differently for his own pet, there was no pressure to follow his advice. Lakeview can't be beat.  Their vets are top-notch and keep up to date with the research and technology that is always emerging in their field. The staff is as great as the vets.  In addition, wait time is never long unless they have an emergency.  They may cost a bit more than other vets in town but are worth it. Dr. Levy saved my Labrador after a hunting accident.  Dr. Guichard saved me thousands of dollars by researching my cat's symptoms and determining it was not cancer but an allergy.  From simple yearly visits to times of emergency, Lakeview is my go to. Love the team at Lakeview Vet! I previously used a different vet, but my kitten got sick on a Saturday and the other vet wouldn't let me bring her in until Monday. Because I was worried, I wanted to get Kitty seen ASAP, so I called Lakeview. They happily told me to bring her down and they'd fit her in as soon as possible. I brought her and didn't even have to wait long at all! Dr. Guichard was great with my kitty, and she was also great with me! We had to do a physical exam and X-rays, and Dr. Guichard walked me through every step and explained things very clearly so I knew what was going on. Kitty had to have surgery, and Dr. Guichard called me every hour to check in. Love Drs Ripka and Levy.  Came to this practice by way of recommendation from a friend who happens to be a veterinarian (does not work here.)They always try to make room for you when ya have that unexpected emergency (as is likely with an indoor/outdoor kitty).  They are thorough but do not go overboard.  The staff is super friendly, the office is clean as a whistle and they seem to be well stocked with product.It can be pricey - but it is still within the acceptable range - it costs money to see a doctor and our animals are no different.Added bonus is the well maintained parking lot ! I swear by my vet on the Northshore though it's a hike, but after one too many emergency situations that had me scrambling to find a closer vet, I decided for quick "why is my weenie dog whining when I poke her here" or "yeah, he ate a giant container of..." or the "please cut her nails, she'll bite me" situations to check out Lakeview Animal Hospital.Dr. Levy is my boyfriend's neighbor and his dog's vet, and the doc took care of a nail that curled into Vienna's paw about a month ago. There was no "wow, you're a bad dog mom" or "she looks like a dirty brown mop, you should get her groomed." Just wam, bam, nails clipped, no problem.Just recently Vienna has started limping and boo hoo-ing around the house so I made an appt in less than 24 hours. This time we saw  Dr. Guichard. She's younger, but don't let her sweetness fool you. She's incredibly professional. She gave Vienna a super thorough inspection (no yelping at all from Miss V, that dog should win an Oscar (her brother's name actually)). She advised me that she didn't think an X Ray was necessary whereas I have absolutely had vets from emergency clinic type situations basically order it without even giving me a price quote. She gave me some medicine for her if it does happen at home and sent me on my way with a very manageable bill.The front of house staff will greet the animal by name even before you get to the desk, and, this is going to sound weird, but there are no heavy "animal odors" in the waiting area like some places.I'm 100% committed to yearly check ups with my Northshore vet but absolutely recommend Lakeview for local care of your pets. Even though the staff is friendly here, I do find they have a habit of giving you the worst-case scenario. Yes, I love my dog to death, but my family cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars on our dog to get a test done to see whether or not something is seriously wrong with her. This has actually happened before and come to find out all she had was a severe case of dry skin. I do not like how vets in general try to play on people's emotions to get them to spend more money on their pets instead of just being honest.They also told us they would clip one of our dog's nails without charge since our groomer forgot to cut one. The vet then asked me if I wanted her to go ahead an cut all the nails so I said sure. Not only did she cut my dog's nails so short that they bled, she also charged me $22. If she would have said she was going to charge me, I would have never said for her to go ahead and do that since the other ones were already trim. But I guess it's my fault that i never asked.They also recommended a different heartworm medicine because the other one we used for my dog was having issues with the manufacturing company. The medicine they recommended was twice as much for only half of what we usually get with the other one.I just find that even though the staff is friendly and show that they care, they also nitpick you to spend money and play on people's emotions which I don't like from a business. The only reason why we come here is because it's close by. Other than that, we try to prolong our dog's vet visits to just once a year when her shots are due and medicine runs out since they have a tendency to run her vet bill through the roof, and we just don't have the money for that.
