All of the staff was extremely friendly. I had to take my fur baby in on a Sunday and the doctor was in an emergency surgery so it did take awhile but I received multiple phone calls with updates. My dog was already overdue for his bordatella vaccination. Without a car, his regular vet was just too far to walk in the middle of summer, so I decided to check if I could get him vaccinated closer. Another clinic told me that, since he's not their patient, there is no way to do this without a $45 exam. So I called Magazine Street Animal Clinic and... No problem. Front desk receptionist was very "blah." No greeting upon arrival. No smile whatsoever. I was dropping off a pet for a client and was unfamiliar with all the paperwork that had to be filled out.. instead of offering me assistance she just sat there staring blankly as if she was bored with me. I asked questions and apologized for not exactly knowing what was expected of me and I got nothing but silence in return. Awkward experience. I just put my sweet Sydney to sleep.  This was as peaceful a death as I could have imagined.  Dr. Kevin gave her a sedative and then left the room so we could say goodbye.  She was out like a light and the fatal injection didn't even register a twitch.  I have taken my cats to every vet with good ratings and this one is simply far above the rest.  Everyone who works there clearly loves animals.  They are all so compassionate and kind. I am currently sitting in an exam room for the sixth time in a year because my dog is a beautiful wreck, and I can't speak highly enough of the vets here. My dog and I have now seen all but one of the vets and they are all kind, funny, knowledgeable, and comforting (Dr. Scott is especially great!). After successful treatment of a bad vaccine reaction and a double luxating patella surgery, I have no doubts that my dog is in good hands here. Diagnosed our pet from a routine visit, with a heart murmur and did not advise to do a work up to ensure hemodynamics (heart functions) were sufficient. Now, heart failure has advanced gravely and suffering syncopal (fainting) episodes and intolerant to play or walks with difficulty breathing. Dr. Kevin did an amazing job removing a golf ball sized tumor from my nearly 18 yo cat. We wanted to remove it almost a year earlier when it was smaller, but she had a heart murmur and her pre-op results indicated anesthesia could be risky.  When she was ready, the surgery was done skillfully, with thorough explanations pre and post surgery. The one and only vet I'd ever visit in New Orleans. I saw Dr. Kevin for the year that my dog and I lived there. Dr. Kevin is wonderful. He took excellent care of my dog for several visits after he was viciously attacked by a neighborhood dog, and for the year following. He took his time and his calm demeanor always eased my worries. The prices are very reasonable and they would never try to up-sell anything. With it being one of the only clinics open on Saturdays, I brought my dog in as an emergency. Not only did Dr. Jo stay past closing to squeeze us in, but also began the surgery- not ending until nearly midnight. We found this place by searching for a vet open late after our dog's tooth fell out while playing tug of war with our other dog. We were so excited and shocked to hear they would be able to see the pup as soon as we got there at 7:30 pm.  Our excitement continued as we found a warm and welcoming staff there when we arrived. The vet assured us he was fine and the tooth was just fractured. He had surgery scheduled for the next day with little hassle. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Amy Dilger!  We spent more than a year hopping from vet to vet in New Orleans, but once we found Dr. Dilger, we knew she would be the only vet for us. Our dog is very animal aggressive, but he is very sweet to people.  We muzzle him when we take him to the vet, since there are other animals around.  Often, veterinarians are hostile when they see the muzzle.  However, Dr. Dilger asked us about him and took his muzzle off.  Our dog loves her now!  On his second visit, months later, he immediately recognized her and stopped barking when she came in the room.  Not only is Dr. Dilger a natural animal person, but she is also a great doctor.  The other vets we went to made vague references about scheduling a dental exam.  Dr. Dilger immediately suggested a dental appointment and also told us the reason:  apparently our dog had a chipped tooth, and none of our other vets had even mentioned that (probably because they were too scared of our dog to bother examining him properly).  Finally, Dr. Dilger will give you reasonable options.  She understands that everyone isn't made of money, so she will try to find the best solution for your pet and your pocketbook. I took my puppy to a park and accidentally kicked him on his leg. He was limping for 5 mins. I was worried so I wanted to get his leg check just to see if I didn't dislocate anything. I looked up on Yelp and found this place open until 8pm. I called and ask to see if the doctor can take a look at his leg real quick and the lady told me put me on hold while she's get an information for me and she came back and said the service after 6pm is $85 F$$KING dollars!!? Just for a check up?. I called at 5:30 and I'm 10 mins away from this place. I've had animals my whole life, and have been to many different vets over the years. I have NEVER received anywhere close to the level of compassionate care that I experienced at Magazine Street Animal Clinic. A few months back, after my regular vet (the low cost provider also on Magazine Street that I've gone to for years) couldn't see my cat quickly due to holiday madness, Google led me here. My sweet girl was already too far gone to save, but Dr. Zamer and staff were very attentive and kind, and exhausted every possibility before aiding me in letting her go. Even with how sad and difficult it was, I was blown away by the level of service we received. Dr. Johanna and the staff have been amazing. I have 2 dogs, 1 is a senior who was having health issues that were alarming. Dr. Jo was able to diagnose him and put him on simple medication that will keep him happy for the rest of his days. They are very helpful, she explains things well and is more than happy to spend as much time as is needed so that you can understand. Questions are always welcome. The support staff has been nothing but helpful and very well organized. If there is an emergency, they will go above and beyond as they care for your animals. I have been going there for years and am moving out of state and I hope to find a clinic as great as this one. The first thing I noticed was how relaxed the animals being boarded or waiting in the spacious, clean reception area were. Obviously, the pets themselves trusted the staff and did not associate fear or anxiety with medical care at Magazine Vet. We had taken our cat to another vet who claimed she was fine, when most obviously she wasn't. Upon re-examination at Magazine Vet, Dr. Amy found a serious issue which has now been solved through her intervention. We also had another animal who needed to be anesthetized for a minor surgical treatment. Our pet was not released in a doped and groggy state and we were actually given pain killer if our pet showed signs of distress or discomfort. This was a first for us. Nothing is more horrible than knowing your pet is in pain after surgery and there is nothing you can do about it. Fees were no greater than what we've paid at other vets and the service, clinic, and treatment were top notch. Magazine Vet also accepts abandoned or stray animals for adoption. One was a kitten who had been thrown from a moving car with her litter mate. Magazine Vet cared for this kitten for several months before she was adopted. Imagine the level of care necessary for such a trauma. We are looking to adopt our 4th cat from Magazine Vet because we know that strays who are given loving care adapt well when adopted into multiple pet homes. Ask for Dr. Amy.
