I love this veterinary hospital. They are super professional, great with people as well as with animals. Their boarding services are excellent, and their veterinarians actually follow up with us by phone to find out how our pet is doing on this or that new medication. I board my cat here and he actually seems to love going. Never has a problem transitioning to or from. Just really great, knowledgeable, caring staff all around. Let me first say that the ER clinic was great. Dr. Charlton was absolutely wonderful! My Siberian husky ate an entire lamb bone and she was vomiting all day and very lethargic. I brought her in around 8pm and she ended up staying overnight to receive IV fluids and enemas. Dr. Charlton thoroughly explained each X-Ray to me and explained the treatment that would take place. I received a text from him at 6am updating me on what happened throughout the night and I was able to pick her up. Very professional. Very thorough. I usually go to my hometown vet when my husky needs anything but I think I may have just found us a permanent new vet in nola! Thank you Prytania Emergency clinic. My pup looks 100X better. Our little buddy was unable keep anything down - no food or drink for two days. After Dr. Charlton and the team checked him out and got x-rays to rule out dangerous pathology, they started an IV and got him hydrated. My Fiance and I had recently moved to New Orleans and upon moving here we decided to get a new kitten. The first couple nights we had the new kitten we noticed that she was having trouble taking a poop. She was straining so hard but nothing was coming out. Just moving here we did not know of a good vet so we went on yelp and read some reviews and we decided on the "Prytania Veterinary Hospital." Our kitten "Maggie" was lucky enough to get Dr. Ghere as her Vet. He let us know our kitten was only 4 weeks old, though we were told she was 8 by the woman who gave her to us. She was much to young to be away from here mother. She was severely backed up. Dr. Ghere said he would do what he could and try to get things back on track. They held on to her for 4 days and when we got her back things were ok for a day or two before we noticed issues again.  I would email Dr. Ghere about her issues and he was always very responsive. He was getting back to me even on his weekend. The care we were receiving from him for our little kitten was above and beyond what we could have expected. Maggie had to go back to the vet and we weren't sure if she was going to make it. Dr. Ghere told us in all his years as a Vet he has never seen a kitten so backed up. He said he would do anything he possibly could to get her healthy. We waited another 5 days just hoping to get some good news. We finally got the results and they were able to get the blockage out. We were able to pick up our kitten and when we got her back it was like she was a new kitten. She was so playful and energetic. Her eyes were much brighter and I could see in her face she was feeling much better.    I can not thank the staff at the "Prytania Vet Hospital" enough. Dr. Ghere and Caroline at the front desk were truly life savers. It was honestly their care and consideration that brought Maggie back to a healthy happy kitten. I had to take my dog to emergency when days after she was attacked brutally and huge lump appeared in her neck....Easter Sunday.  This emergency clinic is always open- there had only been Metairie before.  Dr. Charlton and the whole staff were wonderful.  She was treated and when I left I knew what was happening and what I needed to do.  He took the time to explain exactly what was going on.  The cost was more than reasonable and the care was the best...so thankful they are here! My dog had to be taken to an emergency vet Sunday afternoon and Prytania Vet took her in immediately. The tech and Dr. Charlton came in very shortly after we got there (and they had at least two other patients in rooms at the time as well). The whole staff and Dr. Charlton were very detailed in the plan of care for her and very upfront about costs and being in contact with her normal vet. I came here after Southern A.C. turned my dog and I away for stitches because they were closing...too much time spent stitching up the crazed dog who attacked mine.Derek at the front desk got us in a room quickly and came in to get our info while my dog could sit and rest. Dr Charlton came in to evaluate and confirm he needed stitches. He gave me the quote and took komos back to surgery. In and out I was there maybe 40min for exam and payment.  1hr for surgery. An hour for komos to come around. His stitches look great. Very clean and he closed up every little wound and found a better antibiotic after finding more injuries than initially seen. The next day Dr C emailed me the images he took before stitching him closed and the full evaluation report. Very helpful for filing my police report. Grateful to this vet! Read Less

My initial phone call was great; I wasn't sure if my dog needed to be seen and they offered to speak to the dental technician on staff instead of bringing in my dog at first, which the immediate response from the other place I had called. Ultimately I decided to bring her in just to be safe. We had a wonderful visit; they did a very thorough exam, were super informative and patient. We were in and out pretty quickly and it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. And the other bonus? I didn't have to drive to Metairie to get my pup examined!!!! We have an excellent experience every time we visit. Dr. Ghere and Dr. Nathan are our favorites, but we like everyone we meet there. My Yorkie has been in the care of PVH since he was a baby....yesterday, he was in crisis due to congestive heart failure, and the amazing team at Prytania Vet acted quickly and professionally to stabilize him and explain to me every detail of what was happening. He then spent the night in the care of the emergency team. I slept peacefully last night knowing he was in their care, and he is coming home today! I recently bought a puppy and she was already sick. She had diarrhea and vomite. I went on Google to see which vet opens on Sunday. Prytania Veterinary had the best reviews so I called them and they told me to come in right away. I came in and they took my puppy and did some tests on her. She was positive for parvovirus. The vetenarian told me that it's best for my puppy to stay with them. My puppy stayed with them for three days. They are so well keeping me updated about my puppy. The ladies at the front desk are amazing and most of the staff is really great. However, they try and charge you for anything and everything. We are college students and can't shell out 300$ each time we take our dog for a check up. We would take our puppy in for one thing and they would end up suggesting a dozen tests and medicines for really unnecessary things, and without telling us how much everything was. Suddenly they would tell us we owed 300$ for the one visit. The estimate they gave us for neutering was 480$ and we thought that was expensive so we called the Magazine street to get an estimate and they told us 230$! That is a huge difference so I think we are going to officially be switching.Read Less

I've been bringing my animals to Prytania Veterinary Hospital for ten years, and they are absolutely the best! Warm, lovely staff, very knowledgeable and attentive to detail, and a great "bedside manner" with both animals and owners. They've seen me through three dog and three cat adoptions, a few farewells, dozens of check-ups, and the occasional 'what is that lump" panic (which for the record, turned out to be nothing. Whew!). In New Orleans, Prytannia Vet is it. I personally have some great experiences with Dr. Ghere. When my previous cat had cancer in his mouth, I took him to another Vet in the Marigny area. This other Vet was so mean and actually hurt the cat. Needless to say I found Dr. Ghere and not only is he good looking (LOL) but he is one of the kindest men I have ever met, we put my cat down and he hugged me while I cried. His staff is the best you can get and they love my cat Lafitte, especially Ms. Miranda who seems to be able to handle him better than I. Whether you have a cat or a giraffe, Prytannia Veterinary Hospital is where you should trust your pet. Just want to give a heads up to you cat owners. My cat for about a year was becoming very picky about her food as well as loosing a lot of hair. She was a long haired that lost all her fluffy coat. The cat vet, Dr B she is called i believe, just always told us to change her food and litter. I knew something was up. This went on for almost a YEAR. My poor cat finally fell terribly to a failing kidney and died. The vet on staff (who was not Dr B) said it was too late. Basically we were given false info to go on and it was too late to do anything (even tho for almost a year we kept questioning it). It was so sad. Not to give you guys a pity story but seriously if you have a cat do not go to the female cat specialist vet there. I don't know about the other vets there so I can't say for others who work there.
