I have been bringing my pets here for years. Sadly, the one person who answered the phone, and apparently kept the place running, finally gave it up and left. Not so good now. Very difficult to get anyone on the phone, and when you do, they will put you on hold to listen to a very loud foul mouthed comedian(?) screaming his form of rank "humor" in your ear. Eventually you will get a not very nice person on the phone who finds the whole thing humorous, and good luck with her. So sorry to see you go Chaz, they are a mess without you. Read Less

My cat was having some issues, and they were able to get me in the same day I called, which was good because it ended up being life threatening. They took care of my cat in addition to giving me some food recommendations in the area (I just recently moved here). My cat's issue now requires a prescription food. I ran out of the food during the weekend, and the Vet, Scott Griffith, outside of business hours (Sunday), took care of calling in a prescription so that I could give my cat her proper food. The Vet and staff are lovely people who truly care about your pet. As a new puppy owner, they have been on-hand to answer questions, urging us to call and be utilized like a trusted general practitioner for humans. As a stickler for customer service, they listen to you and do not try to push additional products or unnecessary services. My husband and I could not be more pleased with the expertise and compassion of The French Quarter Vet staff.  From the office manager to the techs to the verterinarians, they are all consummate professionals.  Our beloved cat was recently diagnosed with cancer, and Dr. Scott and his staff gently helped all of us - human and feline - through the entire process with love and expert care.  Dr. Scott spent much of his valuable time speaking to us on the phone, and he also sent us electronic links to help us through the grieving process.  Choosing a verterinary clinic for a pet is as important as choosing one's own physician, and French Quarter Vet is an excellent choice!  Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees. I would NEVER take one of my pets here again. I tried him out when my regular vet was on vacation and out little dog developed a.nasty cough. Three office visits, numerous tests and several hundred dollars later he told us he could only have a minor upper respiratory infection. He continued to decline, my regular vet returned and we saw him his first day back. He has asthma, potentially fatal if untreated. Now under control. Additionally after a day of tests the vet waited until Monday to give me test results and a prescription.  The only thing he cares about is how much you are willing to pay, not the welfare of your pet. Used French Quarter Vet for my English Bulldog puppy's shots and general visits. Dr. Scott's staff is very friendly and considerate. My problem came when I dropped my dog off to be neutered when he turned 6 months..30 minutes after I dropped him off I got a call from Dr. Scott telling me my dog had a seizure and stopped breathing while being prepped for surgery. When he was revived he began to vomit up bloody mucus.I was told that he was being treated with an IV and would be held until he was stable. I was also told of course that he would not be able to be neutered that day. Two hours later I was called to come in and pick him up and was billed almost $500 for treatment. The more I thought about what happened the more suspicious I became. After consulting another vet I was told that what happened was likely a result of the treatment he received while being prepped. I don't think I should have been billed that much for something that seemed to be negligence on the Dr's part.Since then I've spoken to many friends that have had similar experiences with French Quarter Vet  Stories of misdiagnosis, overpriced, unnecessary treatment and sloppy work. Spend your money more wisely with a more competent vet. Read Less

The Good: The customer service is great - both friendly and efficient. The staff, from vet techs to the vet, are all very people- and animal-friendly. The staff is very professional and courteous and seem to really care about the animals and the pet owners. The office is very flexible in scheduling appointments and with any rescheduling that might be necessary. I've never had to wait too long to get in with my pet and they run pretty close to on schedule as well during appointments. They also offer a variety of pet foods for purchase and free doggie pick-up bags to anyone. The Bad: They are pricey compared to other vets and parking can be a bear. The Ugly: I had an experience where my cat exhibited some symptoms that for a cat her age and health to that point likely meant she was hypothyroid. However, the vet instead suggested several worst case scenarios (e.g. cancer, organ failure) and ordered about $500 worth of tests, rather than first testing for the most likely, far less scary (not to mention less expensive) scenario first. They also kept her at the vet office rather than let her come home with me because they "may have to start treatment immediately." It turned out to be hypothyroid, which is thankfully very easily treated. However I was still out a lot of money, not to mention the stress of thinking about cancer and other far less easily treated options. Unfortunately, after this occurred I learned from two other nearby pet owners they had similar experiences (vet ordered expensive tests and hypothesized about dire diagnoses for what turned out to be common, easily treated and diagnosed issues). So, be a little skeptical and ask a lot of questions before agreeing to the suggested tests, etc.Edited to add: Unfortunately, my sweet cat passed away recently. She passed away at home, so I had to call to ask about what arrangements I should make for her body. They were very kind in helping me to figure out what to do. The next day, I received an extremely lovely green plant in sympathy from the staff and Dr. Scott, expressing their condolences for her passing. It was wholly unexpected and a really thoughtful gesture. I appreciated it very much. Read Less

I recently adopted a beautiful boston terrior boxer mix from a rescue organization. Mr. Fenton the kangaroo dog wasnt without his medical issues and being a first time dog parent, I was extremely nervous my first time bringing him to the vet. I chose French Quarter Vet based on all of the reviews on yelp and because they were walking distance to my house (and next to fifi mahoneys!) I have been a life time cat owner and been to NUMERIOUS vets. FQV BY has been the best of all of them. Dr. Scott basically stays on call and provides you with your cell number. . What vet does that? SUPER knowledgeable and great staff.  For what I paid in NY for a simple test and antibiotics, my dog had bloodwork, urine analysis, ear cleaning, parasite testing, antibiotics, and skin testing. Seriously. Now every time I pass this place with friends, I say "thats my vet!"Dr. Scott truly cares about animals and what is in their best interests and it shows.  The staff is so great that Fenton is literally excited to go there and say hi (how sweet is that?)  Fenton got a very thorough examination and we got down to the bottom of what was upsetting his tummy all for a reasonable price. Thank you FQV for being so awesome! Read Less

This is the best I vet have taken my dogs to!  They are quick, friendly, and clean.  For regular check-ups, they are on time with the appointments and are very thorough.  For the cost for both of my dogs to get a check-up and shots it was far cheaper than when I used to take them to Banfield. Dr. Griffin and the rest of the staff are super nice and knowledgeable. They will answer all of my questions and seem genuinely interested in my pet's well being. I recently had to take one of my dogs in for some emergency stitches. I walked in with a frantic, bloody dog and walked out about an hour and a half later with a clean, happy little girl. Dr. Griffin and the rest of the staff were fast and friendly and kept me informed throughout the situation. I chose this vet based on the fabulous reviews it received from Yelp! I was not disappointed, but I did not feel that the practice was above and beyond--not "as good as it gets." My opinion may change as I become more familiar with the practice and the staff/Dr. Scott. There were several little things that help this practice to stand out from other vets I have seen in the past.*24/7 access to the veterinarian, Dr. Scott Griffith, via cell phone for established patients*great staff/vet techs*clean, clean, clean!*a vet with around 30 years of experience*knowledgeable about the health risks for dogs in the greater NOLA area and the necessary preventative measures that need to be taken for dogs living in this areaAnd a very cool, but the most random detail that sets them apart:*They give away free bags on board pick-up bag holders and refill bags! I think this small touch is so nice! And they told me to stop by any time I needed a refill. Also, the bags are biodegradable! (Chaz told me!) How cool is it that a vet practice cares about the little things as well as being knowledgeable and friendly?Only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5, I felt like Dr. Scott was rushing me to get out and stop asking questions. I felt pressured to not ask the maybe 4 questions I came in wanting to ask. The whole appointment was forced to move quickly. I will re-evaluate after another visit with them. Perhaps it was just a super busy day? Or the vet was running late? But there were no other people there when I arrived, and only 2 there when I left. Regardless, I am 100% confident in the care my dog received and would recommend Dr. Scott Griffith and The French Quarter Vet to any responsible dog owner. Read Less

There is no better vet around, if I could give them 6 stars, I would. I got my first puppy back at the end of August from a reputable breeder, assuming that meant she'd be the very picture of health. I brought her in for her first check up and vaccinations 2 days after bringing her home and she did great- she loved everyone, the entire staff showered her in love and affection while answering all of my "new parent" questions and calming my paranoia.A few weeks later, possibly even after her second set of vaccinations, Bexley started having diarrhea on a regular basis, enough that I brought her in-- terrified of Parvo. After running tests, trying her on different foods and fielding dozens of my phone calls, we finally discovered that my little girl has food allergies/intolerances. During all of this, the entire staff was amazing! Dr. Scott ensures that you have his cell phone number and know that it's okay to call if you have any questions. He cleared every test or option with me before going through with it and even talked me out of insisting on some of the more expensive tests until we'd ruled other things out. The office is always clean, animals always seem happy. I know my dog insists on a visit every time we walk past! The entire staff knows her & is sure to say Hi any time we happen by. The online "Pet Portal" is very useful, I wish every vet had one. Now we're moving to Denver and I took her in one last time to get checked out, everyone hugged her goodbye and Dr Scott said I could always call him with any questions. I sincerely think that the French Quarter Vet is going to be the thing I miss the most about New Orleans- and with a city this great, that's a VERY big statement to make! Read Less

I feel that if a problem did arise, they would handle it with care and concern, sticking behind their reputation as the French Quarter most accessible vet practice. Read Less

Super professional, the doctor and staff are really friendly, and I'll be back in about a month for Tycho's checkup. It's a bit on the pricier side as far as vets go, but you get what you pay for - a pleasant experience in an environment where they really care about your pet.

They even trimmed her nails while she was out!  The bill was minuscule compared to what I would have payed at an emergency clinic. I am so thankful that this place exists! Read Less

Read Less
