I decided to go here because I was low on cash and saw they had a discount. I should have asked for pricing ahead of time. My cat was losing weight rapidly and his teeth were falling out. I brought him in and they said everything seemed to be fine. They gave me a tube to get a fecal sample for a parasite check and sent me on my way. I ended up paying close to $300 for this and for them to give my cat updated shots.They also told me to come back soon to get his teeth cleaned which would have cost over $200. I brought him in without a pet carrier, and when I went to pick him up they had him in a cardboard one. I asked if they were giving this to me. They said yes, and I thought that was nice of them. Later on, I checked the bill and found I was actually charged $10 for it. Some gift.I went home and later returned with a fecal sample for them to test. They told me shortly after that everything looked fine with the sample. I found out a day later (through checking myself) that he actually did have tape worms. I don't think they even checked the sample I brought in. Also, his ear was bothering him at the time. They gave me some medicine for it, which didn't work and appears to have made it much, much worse. I'm scared for him but can't afford much more vet care after the huge bill from here. Overall, this was a huge waste of money. They didn't care about my cat at all. They just wanted to get every dime they could out of me. I will never go back to this place, and I suggest you don't go unless you have a lot of expendable money to blow and you don't actually want to find out about your animal's current health. Read Less

I had a really bad experience with Uptown Vet. The vet, Dr. Miller, was always a bit curt with me (though very nice to my boyfriend). We boarded our two dogs for a weekend. Dr. Miller was there checking the dogs in, and declined to write down any feeding instructions even though each dog gets a different ratio of wet and dry food. It seemed like she just wanted us to leave as quickly as possibly. When I picked up the dogs they returned all the wet food unopened, meaning they fed one dog only about 50% of his usual food and one dog only 80%. The very minimum you expect from a vet or anyone who cares for your animal is to provide food, water, and shelter. Uptown Vet basically starved my dog - we considered reporting them to the LASPCA but just moved everything over the Crescent City Bets who have been lovely and professional. I was truly horrified by both the lack of customer service and total disregard for our pets Dr. Miller personally demonstrated.Read Less

I've been bringing my kitten to Uptown Veterinary Hospital for about 6 months now. I haven't really had to deal with anything serious, so I don't know all of the ins and outs of the vet, but for check-ups, shots, and boarding, UVH has been great. I've heard that there are other, cheaper places to get veterinary care, but this place is really nice, clean, conveniently located, and the doctor is very friendly. Care for my pet isn't an area of my life where I'm looking to save the most money at every turn; I'm willing to pay the price for reliable and trustworthy care.The boarding was $21 a day, which I felt was a fair price for peace of mind while I was away from home, and Larry was returned to me healthy and happy. While I was away, I emailed the doctor to check up on my cat, and she returned my emails and reassured me that everything was going well.When I brought him for shots, they let me leave and called me to pick him up when they were done. It was nice to not have to sit in the waiting room, and since they're in such a great location, there was plenty to do around the neighborhood while they gave Larry his shots.I recommend UVH to my friends with pets and will continue bringing my own here, as I've definitely been satisfied thus far with the basic services I've required. We needed a place to board our dog and two cats while moving between homes, and all were also in need of shots, checkups, etc. We've taken them to various other vets in the past with varying degrees of satisfaction, but this was our first time with Uptown and Dr. Miller.Our pets were with Dr. Miller for an entire week, and the doctor called to touch base with us towards the middle of the week to let us know they were doing okay and to give us an update on the bill. She suggested that a couple of the treatments probably were an unnecessary expense, but she would do whatever we wanted. As a small business owner myself, I appreciated her candor.The critters were happy and healthy when they left, and that speaks volumes for one of our cats, in particular, who tends to be miserable anywhere but home.The final bill was very reasonable. In fact, I've gotten a couple of bills from other local vets that were proportionately much higher for much less. Our pup is ill today, and there's no question as to where we'll be taking her. Dr. Miller cares for the animals she treats however when i took my cat to get a check up instead of simply holding him while giving a fecal exam she chose to sedate him. My cat is de-clawed and would not have been able to hurt her, so on top of the outrageous exam fee I paid for sedation as well. And after all this she didn't even help him. I had to take him to ANOTHER vet for another exam and they treated him for worms. Which she didn't even tell me he had. No stars! Snarky and insulting entire time! Left crying and a bill of $188.60 later!!!!From the start the dr. pretended to simply be a receptionist and was not forthcoming about being the doctor with me on the phone, while scheduling my pet's first appointments. (Strange!) I have been having troubles with getting help with my cat's tapeworm issue. So I desperately called to get the help needed. However, my desperation was met with curt answers, cold responses and HOSTILITY! It really blew my mind how she proceeded to "remind me" that she doesn't like people who tell her how to do her job. With that being said as a pet parent you like to describe what has been previously going on and what the main concerns are, especially when it is a FIRST VISIT! I felt very disrespected and shamed the entire visit. I have family that is in the veterinarian field to which she made disrespectful statements about them. The doctor also scoffed when I asked if the spray for my dog's rash was of natural properties, stating that, "We practice western medicine here." I could not believe this happened to me and my little ones today. Only after I broke down crying and stated how I felt shamed by her, was then that she chose to change her demeanor and robotically apologize. Before the appointment had even ended she made me feel as though she was uninterested in seeing us ever again. This also cost me a whopping $188.06!!! Unacceptable treatment! I would like to give Uptown Vet five stars.  Dr. Miller is amazing and my dogs love her.  Their vet care has been excellent.  However, based on recent experiences with boarding, I'm knocking off two stars.I've used the boarding services a couple times now.  The past couple times it seemed good, but here's a few things to note that I think is a disservice to the customer.1) There is no discount for multiple dogs.  C'mon, really? I don't know any boarding facility that doesn't do this.2) You will be charged for an extra night if you don't pick up before 2pm.  So if you pick up on Sunday when the only time you can pick up is between 5 and 5:30pm you are forced to pay for an extra night.  Is that really fair? Would it not be a better plan to also have a morning pickup time (i.e. between 10 and 10:30) and an evening pickup time? 3) They really should remind you of these policies every time you come in....like the next one, which is new. 4) They will weigh your dogs each time you bring them for boarding. (Again...really??) Although this is the first time in over a year I've seen them do it.  It's convenient that my one dog was exactly 51.6 pounds.  It's at 51 pounds that your dog is bumped up to the next boarding rate.  My dogs do fluctuate 1-3 pounds at any given time plus they walk all over the scale so are you actually taking the correct weight? Unless my dogs put on mass amounts of weight, the fair thing to do is use the weight they had during their annual exam.  5) You do have to pay in advance when picking up on Sunday.  Ok, no problem.  However, my card was not run while I was there so I did not sign a credit card receipt and I had to call to get a copy of the invoice.  C'mon that's just laziness.I have really mixed feelings about the boarding.  I feel like they are nickel and diming.  I spend a FORTUNE here every year on vet services, medication and boarding (for two large dogs), which is why I'm so upset.  On a positive note I do feel that they get good care here and I do like that it is a smaller facility. It is also not too far from where I live.  However, based on my last experience, I'm going to explore other options for boarding.....$228 dollars for three nights is ludicrous. Read Less

Took my new puppy Goose to see Dr. Miller this morning.  Both Dr. Miller and her assistant were extremely nice and welcoming.  As soon as we walked in her assistant took Goose so that I could repark my car and showered her with affection until I could come back.The office was very neat and clean.  And of course being able to go in on a Saturday is a plus because of my work schedule.Glad that I found Dr. Miller,  Goose and I will be seeing her next month for her next round of shots. We recently moved to the area, and our former vet had suggested another larger clinic on Magazine Street - which is near where we live. However, when my dog developed an illness, they told us they were far too busy and suggested we find somewhere else. That rubbed me wrong, but it was DEFINITELY a blessing in surprise.I'd read good reviews on Yelp about Uptown Veterinary Hospital, so I gave them a call to see if we could get it. I called at 8 a.m. and they had an opening at 9 a.m. The facility was small, but the staff were amazingly nice! The receptionists were very friendly and helpful, and Dr. Miller is awesome! She was very kind to me and my pup, and she was very good at reassuring me that everything would be OK. She is great for nervous pet parents. She was also very good about telling me everything she was doing. She didn't go over costs beforehand, but we didn't really do anything far fetched either. She explained the test she was going to do, then she gave me the facts and assured me we wouldn't do anything invasive unless necessary.She gave us some meds, some food for my pup's upset tummy and sent us on our way, very pleased. She also had her staff call the next day to check up on us and answer any follow-up questions. Dr. Miller is very knowledgeable, and the staff are very focused on making sure you're taking good care of your pets by having them up-to-date on shots and on heartworm and flea preventative. They really seem to care, and their prices reflect that. They definitely don't seem to be in it just for the cash, but because they genuinely love animals and want to see them healthy!We will definitely be using UVH as our new vet! Read Less

So far, great. We will be seeing Dr Miller every three months and so far, she is doing well. She was right on time (I'm so appreciative of people who respect a schedule), she was quick, she had done her homework having read the chart before she saw my dog (love that, can't even get my doctor to do that). This is where I bring my doggie for his checkups and medical treatment. The staff is attentive and great, and Dr. Miller does a fantastic job caring for my baby. I brought him here for a teeth cleaning and extractions recently and I was told exactly what would happen during the procedure. Olivia and Dr. Miller were very friendly and helpful. Dr. Miller was practical and offered some great advice. I just moved to NOLA and this was the only place that would see me right away. They fit me in the day I called. They seemed to truly care and had a comfortable setting. Dr. Miller has been wonderful for us. She is extremely friendly, practical and has always taken the time to explain what she is doing and why. Appointments never seem rushed and she is always very playful with our dogs. They actually enjoy coming here! Her very sweet assistant Olivia takes the time to chat and seems very sharp. Brought my dog here for boarding, they said we could bring a blanket, toy etc... but when we picked him up, the blanket was still folded exactly how I packed it. Im guessing they didnt really use it. Overall it was an ok experience, nothing to write home about. Read Less

I brought my dog here for the first time today, and I can honestly say it was the best vet experience we have ever had. Dr. Miller and her two assistants were very friendly, and it was obvious to me that they all love animals. They were extremely gentle and kind with my dog, and provided us with a general information sheet including a phone number for an emergency clinic. Also, this was the first vet I have ever been to where they walk your dog around so they can poop on their own to get a fecal sample, rather than taking it with a swab. We will absolutely be coming back, and I would happily recommend this vet to my friends. Read Less

Dr. Miller is very personable, friendly, and enjoys her "patients." I took my new kitten in for his first check-up and was very impressed. She didn't rush in, look at my cat, tell me he needs some vaccines, and leave like some vets. I walked in with my sick cat and no appointment at 8:00 Sat.  I had never been there but it was in the neighborhood and had good reviews.  Ashley was very sweet and immediately put me at ease.  I left my kitty with her until Dr Miller was free. Dr. Miller called an hour later with a diagnosis.  One of the things I like is that she takes a conservative approach to testing.  However, she was quick to say if I wanted her to test for other things immediatelyof course she would.  My cat was healthy and running around 2 days later.  I am very  happy to have found a great vet clinic. Dr. Miller and Ashley are wonderful!  We have taken our cat there twice for shots and check ups.  They treated her as if she were their pet.  She can be finicky but was very comfortable around both of them.  They even gave her a treat after her shots.We have had nothing but great experiences here.  We made an appointment the first visit but called day of for the second visit and they had no problem fitting us in.  Everything is clean and organized!Definitely recommend Uptown Veterinary Hospital!
