I normally do not leave reviews but felt compelled to share our recent experience at Cypress Lake Animal Hospital in Prairieville, LA. To start, I will say that we have received decent service at this location up until today although we have found them to be very expensive as compared to other vet offices. Our 11 year old Black Labrador, developed a small cyst on his right rear foot. We agreed to have it removed since it likely caused some pain and made walking somewhat difficult. This surgery came with a price tag of almost $800 (all in) and included sending the growth off to determine if it was cancerous. I know we are in Baton Rouge but $800 to remove a small cyst is expensive - this surgery would have been 1/2 the cost in Houston, TX. The problem came when we brought our boy back for a check up and to see if the incision was completely healed and we could remove the bandage. We waited 30 minutes or so for our 4:30 appointment. Dr. Rhett Mouton spent no more than 5 minutes removing the bandage, inspecting the would and determined that the wound was completely healed and he no longer needed to be bandaged. They returned our boy to us with the good news. The young lady at the counter then asked another employee if there would be a charge for this office visit. The second lady said that there should not be a charge given the expense of the surgery. This is when the vet tech went to the back to ask Dr. Mouton. She returned and said that Dr. Mouton wanted to charge $39 for the appointment that lasted less than 5 minutes. We explained that we thought the follow-up was included in the original surgery cost. Then Dr. Mouton, came to the front and asked "if there was a issue". We, again, stated that we thought the follow-up would be included in the original surgery cost. Dr. Mouton was very blunt and said that "the Doctor had to stop what he was doing" to perform the follow-up. Well, we did have a set appointment at 4:30. He came across as uncaring and unwilling to discuss the "issue". After sharing our displeasure and witnessing his uncaring attitude, we made it known that we would seek another vet for our pets. He immediately told the front desk clerk to print out our records so we could look for another vet. He really does not care about his customers! He lost us and our two pets.
I have to wonder if he is willing to treat his customers this way, how does he treat our pets. I would not recommend Dr. Rhett Mouton or Cypress Lake Animal Hospital in Prairieville, LA to any of my friends or family. I would highly recommend looking for alternatives to Cypress Lake Animal Hospital and Dr. Rhett Mouton. Read Less
