We were referred here by our regular vet Greater Annapolis Vets and I couldn't be more pleased with the caring, kind service we received from the entire staff and Dr. Prostredny. He is very calming, no nonsense and caring and kept us in the loop the entire time before/during and after surgery. He was always open and available to me when our Dora had major exploratory surgery there last fall. They were open to listening to any/all input, more than receptive to our coming in and spending time with Dora post surgery and just overall seem to put the needs of the dog and her owners as a priority. Not at all arrogant or dismissive of our needs/concerns. Each time we have been in I have been reassured that this is the place to go for our dogs when/if they need surgical care.

The staff are rude and have no consideration for the pet owners who most of are distraught waiting in the waiting area. We sat in a room for at least 45 min until we put up a fuss that no one had come to even acknowledge that we were there.
Our dog had JUST had surgery and was clearly in pain and dehydrated. We sat around and sat around.

My little dog was deathly ill with necrotizing pacreatitis, in acute pain. We were afraid that nothing would save him. Not only did the great internist, Dr. Paola, jump in with a quick ultrasound and confirm the diagnosis, but the fabulous Dr Burgess was able to not only get him through the surgery, but managed the tricky after care. They were kind, compassionate and very, very thorough. I cannot say enough good things about the place.
Medicine is not an exact science... that is why it is called practice... good doctors are constantly learning. These guys stay right on top of everything.
I know that to some, asking for payment up front is perceived that this place is all about money, but believe me, that cannot be further from the truth. With no government or institutional subsidies, CVRC is able to deliver the best in veterinary care.

Mid visit review.....
So far so good! We needed an ortho consult for our 8 pound Chihuahua girl for patella luxation and cruciate repair. The surgeon was good to explain things to me at the consult, her diagnosis and surgical options. (We knew she NEEDED surgery so CVSS was one option for treatment.) This facility has more surgical options available than the first surgeon we consulted with.
So although the price was a little higher than a family VET who has a orthopedist surgeon who works with them, the range of services available is larger here, which is why we chose CVSS.
While we could have saved 10-15% at another facility, so far we are very happy with the personal care we & our Daisy are receiving!

We were referred here by our vet, Dr T at Light Street Animal Hospital after it was confirmed our boxer had torn her ACLs. She was only a year old at the time and while ACL surgery for a large dog is $$$, we didn't want her to limp or be in pain her whole life. Dr. Joseph Prostredny was a calming, authoritative force in a very scary, sad time for us. He helped us weigh the pros and cons of surgery so we could decide what was right for our family. He is a very calm, holistic doctor, with a slight hint of hippy in him! We decided to go with the TPLO surgery (both knees, one at a time). I was worried about the anesthesia (boxers are very sensitive to certain types of anesthesia), the recovery, pain, all of it. He listened to my worries and answered each question fully; I never felt rushed. He showed us her xrays and explained in great detail our options and how each surgery option would be performed as well as the expected outcomes of each. After her surgery he called us right away to let us know how it went and how she was doing. Recovery from TPLO surgery was a long and arduous 16 weeks but our puppy (now 5yrs) is a running fool! Each time we see her happily bounding away, we smile and think of how Dr. Prostredny helped it all be so.I can't say enough about Dr Prostredny and how he was so caring with our dog and how he was always available to answer questions, before, during, and after the surgeries.

We brought our dog here requesting an MRI on her leg. She has been struggling to get up. My wife was talked into getting an MRI on her spine, which yielded no answer. They then told my wife that they wanted to do a second MRI on our dog's neck. The only thing we have received thus far is a bill for $3500. We received a report via email basically stating that the specialist can't find any problem with her spine or neck. My wife has tried to get this specialist to cal her back for a week now... Nothing. Besides the $3500 we are now left with wonder what to do next; clearly this place has no idea.... Maybe if they had done the MRI on our dog's leg as initially requested.
I am clearly not impressed with this doctor; the front of the house seemed great and there may be other vets that know what they are doing or are willing to call you back.

Under no circumstances would I take my pet to this facility without the direct instruction from our primary vet. Even than, I would do everything possible to avoid them. This comes from a person who will (and has) paid any amount of money for the care of a beloved pet. However, this place lacks basic compassion and common decency towards its customers and its patients. The professional Veterinarians have been OK to deal with (once you are able to navigate past the thugs at the front desk).
I can confirm what others have said who have experienced the extortion tactics of demanding huge deposits while withholding care. They did it to me as well while I held my gravely sick dog in my arms. I completely understand that this is a business and they need to be compensated for the job they do, however, the apparent assumption that every customer is a dead-beat (and treated as such) really turns me off to the place.
What really gets me is they know what they are doing and they just don't care. I attempted to contact the owner/facility manager to discuss my experience and was met with contempt, arrogance and outright disdain. I don't think they provide very good service, the staff is not very nice or compassionate to the customers or patients and as best as I can tell, they have no interest in changing the way they do business.
The best thing that can happen is they get some basic competition who just does it better (which would be pretty easy).
After our horrible experience and swearing to never go back, we spoke to our Vet did some advanced planning so that if an emergency came up - we knew what to do. I would recommend others do the same so you do not have to be subjected to additional trauma when trying to care for a beloved pet.

The surgeon was good to explain things to me at the consult, her diagnosis and surgical options. (We knew she NEEDED surgery so CVSS was one option for treatment.) We brought our dog here requesting an MRI on her leg. She has been struggling to get up. My wife was talked into getting an MRI on her spine, which yielded no answer.
