Dr. Imperato was caring, knowledgeable and very thorough. He made sure it was the proper decision for me and Charlie and took the time to listen to my decision. Charlie went to heaven peacefully and without pain which was all that I could for . I also received a lovely card in the mail from the staff which was so touching. I am a new client at BSAH. I had previously been going to the same vet for a little over 10 years with my dog. They recently closed their one location, and were still caring for animals from another location, however, it was just too far away for me, especially with my dog becoming a little older. After some extensive research over the options available to me in Canton, I chose Boston Street. I feel very lucky that I did. I knew that my pup needed his teeth cleaned and possibly a few extractions, so I brought him in for an appointment where we first did a full checkup so that they would have a baseline for him as a new client. Dr. Kip found a lump that had not previously been there and expressed some concern over it, gave me some possible scenarios, put him on an antibiotic and pain killer (hoping it was just an infection) and we made an appointment for the next week. Unfortunately, the situation escalated and I was back at the hospital a few days later. Dr. Kip was available to address my concerns and decisive in what needed to be done. While i was terrified, i never at any point felt that my dog (my heart!) was not in good hands. Dr. Kip was able to perform the necessary surgery quickly, and thank god my dog is now on the mend. This may sound silly but i feel strongly that some force out there brought me to Boston Street Animal Hospital and Dr. Kip exactly when i needed them. I can't thank them enough. Read Less

When I first started coming here a year ago, I was impressed that the facility was clean and staff were friendly. My dog has had a variety of health issues since then, and I am convinced that the Boston St team have over treated him for really minor problems. The bills wracked up and in the end they were able to admit that some treatment was unnecessary, "but we can't be sure." Yeah, of course. Most recently we were given a somewhat concerning diagnosis from them after yet another battery of excessive treatment including X-rays . We were fed up and took him to another vet highly recommended by several friends. This vet does not see anything at all wrong with our pup, and his reading of the same X-Rays was that they were completely normal. This makes sense given that our pup is behaving like he is normal and healthy. I can't help but feel this place is going down hill, I am sorry to say. I felt compelled to write a review because I only came here in the first place because of reviews. Read Less

I've been with Boston Street AH for a bit over a year now. Their quality of care is amazing. You can clearly tell they love animals as much as you do! I have seen many vets poke and prod my cat like a lab specimen, but these vets and techs pet my cat and greet her, then make sure she is comfortable for the exam, even taking time to ask me what she can handle. My cat comes home and is fine, as opposed to other vets where she'll be so stressed that she'll hide for the rest of the day! Read Less

I even met one of their mascots Madison Jessica and Dr. Burbelo were extremely knowledgable in what was going on with Binx and made me feel at ease during the appointment that Binx would be back to a regular routine in no time. They thoroughly explained how to use the products and what my next steps would be. They even gave Binx her first bath and she loved it! Thanks guys! I've been to other vets for the last 15 years, but I went to Boston Street Animal Hospital in August since I now live in the city, and had a great experience. Maybe I was lucky by picking the right day to go, but when I called about trying to get an immediate appointment, they were able to fit me in within a couple hours. I really appreciated the information they gave me about how to give my cat a healthier diet. They suggested feeding her raw food which has more nutrients, and I also learned that wet food is preferable for every meal, since it is made up of 95% water (vs. kibble food which typically has 5% water). By having a diet with more water in it, my cat will likely not suffer from kidney-failure later in life, which is common in cats. After my visit, I received a hand-signed letter in the mail by all of their staff welcoming me to their clinic. It's the little things like this that make me feel like they care about my cat's well-being and appreciate my business!Read Less

We went here for years and loved the service we received but after our last Visit we realized something had changed. We were charged an arm and a leg for services (the services were not quoted before being completed as I was emotionally distraught after the thought of my animals diagnosis) done to our animal and never received a call back about his results which were supposed to be back in 4 days. I called every day for over a week to get answers. The answer was to come back in for more testing because the results were oddly inconclusive to all of the test that were done. Something that was originally not a procedure they could conduct at Boston street animal hospital because it was "to invasive" at our original appointment was now an option at $500. So after waiting over a week for the results of my sick animal I had no answers but to bring the animal back in for a prep sure that was to invasive two weeks prior. Now my animals health has declined dramatically waiting for results and unknown answers that were presented to me. Read Less

I've used this office since I brought my puppy home almost four years ago.  I was initially impressed with the vets, vet techs, availability, and physical office and chose to keep paying above-market prices for the service and continuity of care.  I have also enjoyed speaking with, and asking questions of, Dr. Burbelo.  So, I've let some things go in the past to keep an ongoing, positive relationship with this office, however, I just can't continue this way.  In particular:-  BSAH refuses to provide a prescription or verify medical records so that I may purchase medications from the vendor of my choice.  Instead, I am stuck paying 3-10 times the price of an online retailer for even simple medications.  I was simply told by Donna, the receptionist, that they have competitive prices and that they do not give out prescriptions. - The cash flow is more important than communication with the client or welfare of the patient.  For example, I informed Dr. Burbelo that I had just given my dog a heart worm preventative tablet the day before my appointment.  When he took her into their back exam room to administer vaccinations, he also gave her another heart worm preventative tablet.  When I reminded him that I had just given her one, he informed me it would not be dangerous for her.  That's fine.  But, then they charged me for it.  A $35 charge that they refused to remove for unnecessary medications.  Donna, the receptionist, simply refused to remove the charge.  In another example, I had my first visit with Dr. Danna.  I discussed with her the tests to be performed.  She took my dog into the back examination room.  When she returned, she informed me that "she decided" to run "a few more tests."  I was not provided with any opportunity to discuss the tests, was not provided with the results, but was certainly charged.  Almost $100 worth of testing that was not requested or approved.  I discussed this with Donna as well, and all she said is that she would "have a talk" with Dr. Danna.   - Over many visits, I've discovered that the staff here are "alarmist" when it comes to any sign or symptom.  I take my dog's health seriously, bring her in immediately for issues, have her up-t-date on preventatives, and have some pretty extensive experience in animal welfare for a non-vet.  Trying to "scare up" more dollars by making your clients unnecessarily nervous is ridiculous.  Perhaps if client is mistreating their animal or failing to provide proper care, a bit of a reality check is necessary.  But conjecture and misleading information is not appreciated or appropriate.   - Finally, every time I go in to the office, I am asked at least three times to complete reviews on Yelp, Google, and Facebook.  They keep offering rewards for their customers to go review.  Please stop.  This is a hospital, not a frozen yoghurt shop.  In sum, it's time to take my precious pup elsewhere! The vets give relatively good care here, but it is expensive. I don't mind paying for the health of my pets, but I felt like I was charged for things I did not agree to. I took my kitten in for some vaccinations. I told the receptionist, vet tech, and vet that I wanted vaccinations. I was charged $220 for nail trimming, cat shampoo, an information packet, flea medicine, a wellness exam (I'll let that one slide), oral dewormer, a second dewormer, and the few vaccinations I asked for. I was really annoyed because I am trained in animal care and can easily give dewormer, flea meds, nail trims, and so on myself. My dog is 15.5 years old and we have gone to BSAH twice. Each time, the vet, Gregory Burbelo, did not call Ramon by his name but preferred to call him "old man." During our first visit, Ramon had a stomach ulcer and I asked questions about the cause of such a condition which Dr. Gregory did not seem to care for. I thought everyone has a bad day so chalked it up as that. Our second visit was when Ramon had redness and cloudiness in his eyes which caused a great concern to me. The staff were great including the technicians and receptionist team. Things went downhill when Dr. Burbelo came in and called me by the wrong name. I nicely reminded him of my name and he appeared annoyed. He also called Ramon "old man" or she. Neither are a great way to describe a male patient. I let the staff know that Ramon did not like to be picked up when they went to place him on the table for the exam. Dr. Burbelo told me he wanted to do a stain on Ramon's eyes and seemed very put out when I asked what it was and what it would do. I have no vet training and consider stain to be something on furniture so I wanted to know exactly what would happen to my dog's EYES. I don't believe this is unreasonable. After the stain, I was told Ramon had ulcers on his corneas which could be the result of a scratch and I asked how this would happen since he is an indoor dog and both eyes had them in the same place. Dr. Burbelo let me know "that he did not live with us therefore he would not know how it happened." My question was a general question based on his experience as a vet. He proceeded to tell me that Ramon had infection in his teeth and when we started discussing cleaning them, removing teeth, etc. Dr. Burbelo told me that he could not discuss his TEETH AND EYES even though he was the one that brought up the teeth. I explained that we were there today so we should address everything. Dr. Burbelo gave me the card of Dr. Hyman, an ophthalmologist, and verbally told me another doctor's name to call. When I asked to make sure it was Dr. Hyman I should call because that was the card he had given me, he abruptly me informed that the practice had SEVERAL doctors. I am not sure how I would have known this. Ramon was returned to the room being carried and was very stressed. He does not like to be picked up as I had mentioned earlier in the visit. The technician then came in to show me how to do the drops. Since Ramon was stressed and I felt a little stressed with the diagnosis, I asked her for a minute so Ramon especially would be in a better place. I was informed that she had other patients which was great because she could go to them while Ramon got a little more calm (he is 15.5 and cannot really see or hear). She did not appear to want to give us a minute. Dr. Burbelo came in annoyed and said for her to give us a minute. The technician left and I told Dr. Burbelo that the visit seemed a little hostile and I felt that it is important to call patients by their correct names and answer questions. He pointed his finger to me and angrily told me that I am a difficult client and "he does not like my personality." He yelled for someone to come "and get me out of there" as he pushed the door into Ramon. The technician came in and kindly showed me how to use the drops. Ramon and I went downstairs and I paid the bill. Needless to say, I do not recommend this office if you need a place where you can ask basic questions about your pet and receive courteous, knowledgeable answers. I am Ramon's advocate as he cannot speak for himself and think that advocating for him is not being difficult but trying to ensure that he has the best care and I make the best decisions for him based on reliable information I receive from professionals I am paying to give me that knowledge. BSAH is not one of those professionals. Read Less

The staff is very welcoming and seemingly caring.  However, It's not about smiles and small talk it's about your pets health. My experience at this hospital was expensive and left my dog in worse condition than when he went in. Upon following up the advice I was giving was to come in for a consultation for an additional cost. After paying a total of $800.00 I think I will keep my little $56.00 in my pocket. I would have never minded the prices (which are high) had they fully helped my pet. If I could do it again, I would go to a different hospital. Stay far away if you want to avoid unnecessary charges that come from smilie faces with bold dollar signs as eyeballs. Read Less

We started using this location 18 months ago for our new puppy. We chose them due to the proximity to our house and decent online reviews.  While expensive, the convenience factor made this choice seem worthwhile. The first year was full of routine visits for vaccines and one or two visits for minor GI distress... and during those visits I was given the distinct impression that cost was always a consideration for all aspects of their business model. This week there is a minor outbreak of 'kennel cough' in the area.  Our daycare was sending dogs home if they had symptoms.  Unfortunately when I went to pick up my dog last night at 6pm he had developed a classic 'kennel cough'.  I ran over to BSAH to try and catch them before they closed at 6pm but they had left.  My dog seemed OK so we watched him at home.  He woke up at 3am and started coughing up clear mucus. So this morning my wife went to work at 7am and I called my work and told them I would be late... I waiting out front until they opened at 8am.  The secretary/tech who arrived informed me that they had a policy of not writing prescriptions without seeing the dog and there would not be a vet in until 930am.  I explained I could not be that late to work, but she offered no alternative. We called twice from work, once to speak to another clerk and make the earliest appointment possible (saturday) and finally I was able to get Dana, the associate vet, on the phone on the second phone call.I explained the situation, that I and my wife work from 7am until 7pm and didn't want to wait until saturday to get the antibiotics. She was extremely condescending on the phone.  Despite my multiple attempts to explain that I was bringing the dog in on saturday but wanted to start the antibiotic today she refused.  Her explanation was as follows:1) Kennel cough is a virus.  Antiobiotics don't help.  2) When I asked about Bordetella, a bacterial agent which can also cause kennel cough, she stated 'yes... it's a virus.' (It's not - its a bacteria but I let this one go).3) When I then asked what she recommended, she stated, "probioics, narcotics for cough, and an ANTIBIOTIC"4) When I asked why an antibiotic if it was a virus, she stated, the antibiotic has antiviral properties. (They don't.. not the way she means)5) When I then asked why she couldn't have me pick that up, she stated that it was 'illegal' for her to write prescriptions without seeing the dog (it's not)6) When I challenged her on this, and explained that another vet we spoke too said that if our dog was a client of his he COULD write for antibiotics without seeing him, she said that person was either lying or engaging in illegal behavior.7) When I asked her what I should do, she said to 'take him to an ER'8) When I stated that I, as a doctor, am aware that prescriptions CAN be called in without a face-to-face visit, she yelled at me that she wouldn't 'write for a narcotic over the phone'9) When I calmly explained I did not want the narcotic, I wanted the antibiotic, she started yelling that the narcotic was needed to help the dog sleep10) When I explained, AGAIN, that I would come in on saturday for the narcotic and whatever else she wanted if she would just write for the antibiotic now so my dog's infection would not get worse she became incoherent and yelled for quite a while at me.11) I finally lost my temper at this point and yelled back at her... not my proudest moment but I am human too.So I will be firing these jerks at once, and am already setting up an appointment at another vet for transferal of my dog's routine care.  I will have to leave work early to take my dog to a pet ER.I can accept BSAH being expensive.  I can accept not every employee (Dana) is as smart or informed as I would like, but the level of rigid/inflexible thinking and practice is too much.  Your policies are clearly not about pet safety and care, but about maximizing your bottom line by making people spend a lot of money everytime they have a problem.  I could even accept that, if you would give the NEEDED antibiotic medications that YOU STATED are needed over the phone...  But to refuse this shows you don't care if my dog is sick, you just want to follow your rules and make your money. You won't get any more of mine. I have been coming here since I moved to Baltimore and couldn't be happier.  My cat became very ill upon moving here.  Dr Danna was beyond compassionate, caring, and understanding as I sobbed uncontrollably in the exam room (I was not expecting them to say the cat probably wouldn't live the 30 min drive to the ICU). The cat had surgery. They called me every few days to see how I was doing, as well as the cat.  They were great with post-op care--giving meds only if really necessary, having holistic treatment options, and not doing unnecessary tests that wouldn't change the course of treatment.  Eventually the cat recovered. We came back for vaccines a year later and she remembered everything about the visit--down to why I moved here in the first place. It was nice to not feel like some random visitor in the office.  Everyone is always so welcoming and kind.  Customer service is out of this world from everyone across the board.  I dread the day we have to leave Baltimore. We didn't have to wait long to get into an examination room, and even better, the vet came in very quickly. She pointed out the signs that my cat was healthy and made a few suggestions regarding grain-free food and a medicine for her arthritis, but she didn't try to push drugs with harsh side effects or go overboard on blood tests as a previous vet has done. Everyone was very friendly and the office had a relaxed and comfortable feel that made my cat more calm than she usually is at the vet. We will definitely be coming back for her next visit. Read Less

Brought my cat here for years and was relatively satisfied, except how expensive they seemed. Last October, I brought her in for her semi annual check up. Sent home with a perfect bill of health. In January, I brought her back with a persistent cough and some breathing difficulty. Dr. Burbelo was dismissive at first but agreed to do a chest x-ray, the result of which looked like someone had stuffed my cat's lungs with cotton balls. The vet diagnosed lung cancer, told me it had likely been there for years and had likely started as a different kind of cancer (he did not explain how he, as her vet of four years, had missed this). He sent us home with a steroid and told us to come back in April. She was dead before then. I had not heard a thing from the vet's office - no calls, asking about her or why we did not attend the April appointment, nothing. Until yesterday, when I received a voicemail from their office informing me that we missed my dead cat's annual check up and she was due for a battery of shots. Do not take your pet here, they do not care about you or your pet. They are negligent and focused only on the money. Read Less

I'm usually a loyal customer of Light Street Animal Hospital but I recently needed to find a vet for my cat ASAP. An injury of hers had gotten infected and she was lethargic and feverish so I was going to take her to any reputable vet that would see her that morning. I called around and Boston Street Animal Hospital said they could get her in in an hour. From the moment I first called BSAH the staff was very friendly and professional. Once I got there I only had to wait a few minutes before being taken upstairs to an exam room. We saw Dr. Burbelo, he seemed like a really nice guy and he also tried to be as reassuring about the situation as possible. My cat was in rough shape but it was nothing that antibiotics and some fluids couldn't fix. The bill for treatment was reasonable, especially considering that they had to sedate my cat to treat her. I was pleasantly surprised that BSAH wasn't exorbitantly expensive since their facility is quite nice and conveniently located. The waiting room is large and comfortable and everything looks extremely clean. I do have one very big reservation about this practice. When I got home I looked through the bill and googled the medications that my cat had been given out of curiosity. There were antibiotics and fluids which were perfectly legit but the vet also mentioned she'd been given an anti-inflammatory. That sounded reasonable as well until I looked up Traumeel, the drug that she'd been given. It turned out that it's actually a homeopathic "remedy" that is almost certainly worthless. Being charged $50 for homeopathic garbage does not amuse me. In addition to the fake medicine that my cat was given I also noticed brochures for some sort of laser treatment that looked like it was based on rather dubious science. On BSAH's website I saw a number of references to "alternative," "holistic" and "integrative" treatments. These are all buzzwords for quackery. I don't mean to sound overly harsh because my overall experience at Boston Street Animal Hospital was very good. As I said the staff was great, Dr. Burbelo seemed like a compassionate vet and it's not like he didn't treat my cat effectively. Having my bill padded with homeopathic nonsense was not cool though and I wish this practice didn't seem so big on "alternative" pseudo-medicine. Read Less

Read Less

I am so happy with the service that BSAH has provided me and my pet! I was able to get Binx right in for an appointment same day and the moment I walked in the staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating. Donna at the front was very helpful in getting me scheduled, getting Binx's prior records, check out and setting me up for a follow up appointment. The office was clean, organized and friendly. I received a follow up phone call today to check on Binx which I thought was very helpful because I had a few questions that I was anticipating calling for in the next few days anyhow. I highly recommend this office for you and your pet too, you won't be disappointed!Read Less

Dr. Burbelo and Dr. Danna-Christian are both wonderful veterinarians, and the supporting staff is always on point. My 16 year old cat Luna has seen both veterinarians on different occasions, and every person at the Hospital is so pleasant to us at every visit. Including the resident kitties, Madison and Rambo! We love seeing them. :) On one occasion, for our kitty's UTI, she was even given a holistic medicine to help with the healing and pain. I very much like that holistic remedies are included along with modern medicine & treatment. I have a happy, healthy elderly cat currently, and when we do have to make an appointment, they try to help me find the right treatment or break up the visits, so that neither my cat nor my wallet suffers. I just needed a vet to administer the vaccines that are not available over the counter... but I got stuck paying for an insane amount of things I did not ask for and was not expecting. Read Less

Read Less

My dog had been having some pretty epic/painful diarrhea for the past 48 hours so we acted accordingly and took him in.I literally couldn't tell the difference between the tech and the DVM I saw.  Not only did the Doc not formerly introduce herself to me, she had absolutely no bedside manner and did the EXACT same exam as the tech and asked the EXACT same questions.  She also GOOGLED another problem my dog was having and the possible treatments in front of me.  Can't make this shit up.They did follow up on the stool sample the next morning and checked on my dog which was nice. if your looking for an affordable, honest, clean, friendly, knowledgeable, personable, caring vet... look no farther. this vet will accurately treat your animal for what it needs and no more. no un-neccessary treatment or testing costing you an arm and half a leg! the facility is clean and beautifully designed with a great view of the water out of its wall length windows. the staff is very friendly and efficient. i was in an out in a jiff without a hole burnt in my pocket. my dog had an eye infection and was treated for her eye infection. it has been 2 hours since her anti-histimine shot and her eye is open, 90% of the swelling went down and she has not pawed at it once. she is very noticibly and finally---comfortable. she also got an anti-biotic for 7 days. stay away from petsmart glen burnie. they gave me an almost $400 list of treatment and tests yesterday for this same problem. when i refused, they refused to treat her eye offering only saline wash, and left her to be very uncomfortable. thank you boston st vet hosp! you deserve an extra star! ;o) Read Less
