TL:DR Misdiagnosed our cat's wet FIP as gas and "just not liking his food"Took our 8 month old kitten here when he started acting lethargic, and slowly had been losing appetite. Doctor T suggested we switch his food and monitor it. Cut to a week later-he is not eating at all and his stomach is distended. Took him back to Light Street to be told he just has a little gas-and were given medication for diarrhea. Doctor T didn't give an x ray or anything more than a physical exam. The next morning, our kitten fell while trying to get up to get water. At this point it became clear it was not gas. We called them several times that morning, but were never called back by Doctor T, or offered any advice. We took him to Everhart Animal Hospital, after hours of waiting for a call back from Light Street. They got us in right away, and quickly diagnosed FIP after an ultra sound, and drawing fluids from his distended belly. I understand that there is nothing anyone can do for FIP-however-we could have started helping our kitten alleviate his symptoms earlier.I also feel that Doctor T treated us like we were just being paranoid. He dismissed a lot of the earlier symptoms as our cat just being finicky, and us just being over protective. Read Less

Dr. T and his staff are exceptional! My barely 1-year-old german shepherd, Roulette, was hit by an ATV several times by "bleep" children and was in bad shape. Her front right leg and left side of her head were severely injured. More to the story, but this is about the care she received. We took our two dogs (both three years old) in for a teeth cleaning. We had been here once before for a check up, when we moved to the neighborhood. They put our dogs under while the cleaned their teeth; when we came to pick them up, they had pulled a tooth from one dog and FOUR teeth from the other WITHOUT CALLING US TO TELL US. WTF?? First this is an overdue review.  I've taken my dog Sammy there about three times and I've been super happy each time.  With this last time being an emergency situation.  I was in, out, and had prescriptions filled under twenty minutes (I was also not taken advantage of financially as some other reviewers wrote).  Everyone there is SO nice.  The ladies/techs at the front desk and Dr. T himself.  When I had my dog spayed they even called to let me know how everything went AND called and followed up a few days later.  Which is super sweet and very reassuring.  Thank you so much Light Street Animal Hospital!  Sammy loves coming there and tries to sneak in every time we walk by to get a treat!Christine Read Less

Best vet in the area! Dr. T and the staff are always warm and welcoming. Been coming here for around 2 years. Staff will fax or email you any records needed for groomers/doggie day care within minutes. Great care and they never overcharge or require unnecessary testing. I had heard some horror stories about dogs getting neutered from other places in the city and was very apprehensive in the days leading up to our dog's surgery. The surgery went perfectly. He was given pain meds for 7 days and our pup was back on his feet in a few days. Definitely make this your new vet! Read Less

This place is okay, but I wouldn't recommend it. Dr. Trujillo is nice and always made time to see my dog if it was an emergency which I appreciated, but I found myself going back there every few weeks with more unanswered questions/problems with my dog. It turns out that Dr. T was trying to fix the symptoms that my dog had, but did not go farther as to figure out what the leading cause of the symptoms were. I took my pup to a different vet who figured out in ONE visit that she has a Liver Shunt and needs surgery! All in all, the staff is very nice, but if you are like me and find yourself going back every few weeks, try to get a second opinion somewhere else. Read Less

This is the most terrible animal hospital i have ever been to! for two reasons:1)Be aware of the unreasonable high prices(they will try to say a vaccination is free but charge you double for a visit to make up for it and  make it sound better) and will overcharge you for a visit with a doctor who is more interested in talking about weather patterns and football than your precious pup2) They will completely take advantage of you in an emergency situation. they will try to charge you for a visit even if they have seen your dog a few months ago on top of a lot of unnecessary treatment and if you tell them you just want the bare minimum to treat your animal, they will tell you they can't see you. find someone else, the veterinarian is not very knowledgeable and the experience is terrible. This is the best vet. I have an elderly Pom with a collapsing trachea and arthritis. We took him to another vet who said it was allergies, and then they decided to push us to get surgery on his teeth since they are bad. Dr. T had told us before not to do anything with his teeth before, it would be too risky, and he reiterated it again. Good to know that he is looking out for my dogs best interest. I ended up getting his meds for free bc they had them already from another client who couldn't use the meds anymore, they kept them on hand to give to someone who needed them. New customer and new pet owner. I inherited a 7 year old Boston Terrier. I asked many people about which vet they would recommend in the city and I kept hearing about Light Street Animal Hospital. It was very easy to obtain an appointment on short notice. Staff was courteous, helpful and very friendly. Christie handled my intake and was just as nice and patient as she could be. I had heard such good things about Dr. Trujillo (Dr. T) and was not mislead. He was very patient, I did not feel rushed, he had excellent suggestions and seemed truly caring about my dog and her history. Definite recommend. Been a customer since 2004, very family oriented. Dr. Trujillo knows both of my dogs health history individually. Dr. T just recently properly diagnosed and performed an emergency spay surgery for my 9 year old female Yorkie (who is very teeny tiny). Pyometra is a VERY risky surgery, especially in mature dogs so we were afraid of the outcome after surgery. When my pup got attacked by another dog at the dog park and I needed to get into the vet ASAP, Dr. Trujillo was able to see me within a couple of hours of my call. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional and Dr. Trujillo was just amazing with my pup. He spent a ton of time with us and answered all my questions and concerns. If that wasn't enough, my bill was less than half of what I expected to pay. It's obvious that they really care about the pets they treat and the humans that bring them in. OMG!  Everyone here is so awesome, especially the Doctor T!  My dog has some pretty serious and complicated medical issues and she was seeing her neurologist for them.  Well, one day the neuro told me that my dog needed surgery or he couldn't see her anymore.  The surgery was $10,000!  And the surgery would not cure her, her symptoms would remain and it might not stop the progression of her disease.  She was on numerous meds to control and blood monitored every year to make sure everything is good with all these meds.  Well when the neuro told me that I freaked out and broke down crying!  All about the money obviously.  Well, I called Doctor T hysterical and explained the situation and he calmed me down and said he would take care of her from this point forward and not to worry about anything!  I am one of the most obsessive people on the planet when it comes to my dog and I put in quite a few phone calls every week to Light Street Animal Hospital regarding meds, care, etc. and NOT ONCE has anyone been nothing but gracious, patient and kind to me and my Princess.  Dr. T is very knowledgeable about all aspects of veterinary medicine in my opinion and his staff are on the ball ALL THE TIME.  His prices are the best I've ever encountered throughout the country and I am so very grateful that I found him when I moved to Baltimore.  God Bless Light Street Animal Hospital. I went to Dr. T because of these reviews. The clinic is rundown and just awful. Dr. T was OK in the beginning, sort of. Yes, he listens, since I researched everything I could before I brought my baby there.  This vet is good for simple things, like prescribing medicine for simple vomiting and diarhea. Dr. T is insensitive!  He took my little dog upstairs in his clinic, somewhere only God knows where, to draw her blood. When she came back to me, she was twisting and turning, totally stressed out with her arms flaling and dripping from something like baby wipes slathered all over her. She was so stressed that she slept the rest of the day. This happened twice and then no more. Stress is not good for her health and well being.  I have always been with her when she had her blood work done without problems. But Dr. T said I should find someone else if I want to be with her.  To me, this is a bit shady, since I have no idea what happened up there. I need to be in full view when a vet handles my dog. Full view and there to comfort my little one. This is how I feel, OK? I need to be with my love when a vet does anything...PERIOD.He calls me one day while I was working, and told me I was taking his staff away from important things by calling so much about my little one's lab results and if I wanted to come back I can't do that!!!  Then on the same call, before he even got started on the blood test results, he started rambling and mumbling and rambling about how a dog's years compared to people years and I don't have much longer with my dog. HOW DARE HE SAY THIS TO ME.  I despise this vet.  My dog is a healthy little happy love of my life. Shame on you Dr. T for being so insensitive. I didn't ask you to ramble and mumble about something I DON'T WANT TO HEAR. I will never forgive you, don't call my dog a geriatric, senior citizen, old lady. DON'T. Be more sensitive. You didn't even know what was going on with my dog with all the lab tests you took. I wanted to slam the phone down on you, but thought I would be more polite and just never bring her to see you again. I asked Dr. T to express my baby's anal glands on the first visit and he didn't want to. On the second visit he finally did and said, "They are completely full!"  Listen to your pets parents and BE MORE SENSITIVE. We know our pets better than you.  I took my dog to another vet and her lab tests are perfect.  Hope that everyone else who goes here has a better experience. I know I wrote a review for Dr. T back when my parents first started taking their dogs here years ago, but anyway... I moved back to Baltimore last year from another state and knew I only wanted to bring my dog to LSAH.I took him in today for an emergency appointment and left feeling relieved and happy. He needed antibiotics, which was more than I anticipated, but I don't feel ripped off and I do believe LSAH is reasonable... And they take credit cards, incl. Amex, which helps. Dr. T is GREAT! I went to 3 vets in 2 years where I previously lived, who were cold or didn't seem to really care, and that's anything but the case here.Dr. T is friendly with both me and my dog. He looks me in the eye when talking to me, and has a very calm energy, which is great for my dog because he's always terrified at the vet. I absolutely recommend him. Read Less

My cat Maddy was very sick, and Dr. T was always very knowledgeable and carries himself with patience. He handled her with care for every visit, even up into the day she went to kitty heaven. Dr. T is awesome. He was incredibly supportive when we had to put down our labs (at different times) and has been a fantastic vet to our mastiff and German shepherd. He always makes me feel more comfortable about our concerns, but at the same time he is totally honest so that we can make the best decisions possible. Well we came one day after having adopted our cat from the shelter as he had fleas... And a $120 bill to start... The visit was ok and the doctor has been nice with our kitten.I would have given a five star if I didn't have to go back 6 months later... Guess what? After we get rid of the fleas, our cat had worms... Which were coming from fleas eggs!! And guess what? It is another $120 bill for something fully predictable especially when you are a vet. I have had animals my whole life and have never found a vet who I felt truly satisfied with. Dr. Trujillo goes above and beyond for his clients and patients. There is no disconnect between you and the doctor because you speak directly to him and he does the full work up on your animal.  There are many practices that focus on quantity of appointments vs quality (seen firsthand at Boston st animal hospital, seriously never take your pet there, it does not seem like the dr cares and is always rushing). I have seen dr. T on the floor with my animals, he has called me personally to talk me through treatment options, etc. On top of that, his staff is extremely kind and accommodating, and again, giving a very personal experience.  I cannot recommend this hospital enough, I only have great things to say. I'm Angie & I've been a client (along) with my furry-kids, Joey & Lucy, (& my past pets who've gone to Doggie Heaven) of Dr. Truijillo's for over 23 years now.  Dr. John is the most compassionate, intelligent, & attractive  veterinarian I have EVER met.  He & his staff have cared for ALL of my family's pet-health needs forever & I wouldn't trust their care to anyone else.You will NOT find a more professional DVM or staff that will treat your pets like they own them.  Aside from his humanitarian efforts, he is honest & WAY WAY beyond empathetic.  Dr. John cared for my oldest daughter's hamster when she was very young.  The hamster required some help when she was pregnant & he gave her IV fluids & medications to induce her labor.  We also had Simon Templer; my youngest daughter's green iguana that broke his leg.  After X-rays, IV fluids, & pain medicine, Dr. John splinted & casted Simon's arm, did some patient teaching with my daughter & I, & sent us on our way.Dr. John & his staff have also been a HUGE comfort when we had the unfortunate times of losing our pets as well.  They were so kind & caring during those difficult times; even sending us a sympathy card including a little encouraging note written by each staff member.  I can't tell you how much I love Dr. Truijilli & ALL of his staff for the exceptional care they've provided us over the years. I love the care and concerns Animal Street Hospital staff shows. Dr. T and his staff are the best ever. My cat was blocked and I took him to Falls road animal hospital. They charged me $1.800 dollars to unblock my cat, which he wasn't unblocked, but Falls Rd gave me my cat back the next day. My cat still was blocked and dying. After searching the yellow pages for help ! I prayed and asked God to give me a good caring doctor to help save my cat from dying and that was reasonable, because I didn't have another $1.800 dollars to give again. So I called Dr. T and he only charged me $300. Dollars plus he kept my cat for a week to make sure he recovered before releasing him. I just moved to Baltimore for school and with the reviews for this place I decided to give it a try. I have a savannah cat which is a hybrid cat and I'm very selective of who sees him cause of special ways he has to be dealt with for surgeries. My first and only visit my first impression was a rather unprofessional environment. The techs just told me the room to go into and didn't lead me back there or come back to do preliminary stuff. My girlfriend (a vet tech and in vet school) and I sat in the exam room for over 10 minutes with no one coming in but heard the other room get cleared out, have someone else come in and the doctor come in. We left after that and have not been back. A few more negatives a dog with suspected kennel cough was allowed to sit in the lobby where it could spread to any unvaccinated dogs. The doctors degree is in written in Spanish. The doctor (or who I think was the doctor) wasn't dressed in scrubs rather pants and a t-shirt was standing at the receptionist desk and talking to the techs when I left as I told them that we waited in the room for a long amount of time and he didn't apologize or say he would come in. I do not recommend this vet at all. I found a cheaper much nicer looking vet at city pets a few blocks away.Read Less

Located in Federal Hill/Riverside the location is 'well loved' but don't let the less than sparkly appearance fool you; the people inside are amazing and treat your pet as their own. Your furbabies are in good hands at LSAH. My ONLY complaint is the parking (typical Federal Hill parking situation). They do have 2 spots in the back for emergencies- just plan a few extra minutes to find parking so you are on time for your appt. They have a little bowl of doggie treats too (actually dental cleaning treats) for when your pet is not feeling comfortable.Dr. T has been my dog's vet since day one- at the recommendation of some very high maintenance pet owner friends. I'm so glad we listened to them! Dr. T has an amazing bedside manner and orders tests only when necessary- preferring to take the less invasive approach and alternatives before anything costly or painful. Our dog is a Boxer, and they can be costly, to say the least. He has helped us through multiple stomach issues and torn ACLs- which resulted in a referral to a surgeon who is also incredibly amazing (Dr Prostredny at Annapolis Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists, if you need a surgeon). Dr T is so caring and takes the common sense approach first- which gives me an incredible sense of comfort knowing that she is in good hands and has a vet that truly loves what he does and takes time with each patient.I wish I could say the same about another vet we saw a few times (Doc-Side)- where each visit felt like a mortgage payment and they always wanted to do test after test and a few unnecessary procedures (including wanting to biopsy her stomach- Dr T simply changed her food and that fixed it). I don't know about the person who ""left in tears"", but I found this vet to be very good. The receptionists are very nice. They let me sit with them when my dog got too excited with the other dogs around and they answered some general dog questions I had. I wouldn't have been able to fill out my paperwork without them. I was seen about 20-30 minutes after my appointment time. I waited in the room for about 5 minutes then Dr. T came in. He was very nice and was able to treat my dog quickly. He listened to all concerns related to my dog's health and addressed all my questions. This place seems like a nice family run business that has been around for a while. I would recommend this vet. I just had such a horrible visit from there. Dr. T was so rude I left sobbing. Besides never going there again, I will let people I know of my experience. Fortunately I didn't have to pay for the office visit because the credit card machine was down. It would have made everything worse had I paid $50 for an office visit that I waited over an hour past my appointment to be seen, accomplished NOTHING and was rude to. We have been taking our pets to Dr.T for a very long time and I agree with the other families that there is no other vet like Dr. T. He is the most compassionate vet I have ever taken my babies to. But most of all he will call you back himself if you have a question or concern about your baby (ies). Most other vets have their staff return the call is what other people tell me about their vets.
