We had to take our beautiful golden retriever to be euthanized due to a tumor on her spleen which had apparently ruptured. We knew the tumor was there but were not expecting it to happen so quickly. Of course it had to happen at a time our vet was closed. The people were nice enough but I wanted to be with her the entire time. My husband was taking care of the paper work so there was no reason I could not go back with her. I was told it was "policy" that they would get her ready and then we could be with her. Our dog was a rescue so she had fear issues anyway and here I was letting her go with strangers during this difficult time. This is a terrible "policy"! People want to be with their pets for this last time. The pets are scared and in pain. They want to be with their family. Change this policy!! Read Less

If I could give it 0 stars I would. They don't deserve any. They take advantage of people in bad situations. I had to have my young dog put to sleep, I was shown prices for dofferent memorial services. I was told a price it would be when I came back to get her. When I came back to get her ashes and such, the price went up almost double. Their reasoning was she was .2 lbs over the weight limit, yet she was weighed before the paper was given to me. They would not honor the original price that was told to me. They also did a full exam on a dog (for $80) that I already knew what was going on with. I simply asked if the doctor could talk to me about whether she would come back to normal after the issues she was having. Instead of just talking with me they decided to do the full exam. I paid that and was already mad because of that. Now they decided to pull this and it's too much. They know you are upset and will do anything for your pet so they take advantage of that. There's a place in bel air that is probably way better. Do yourself a favor and go there. This place also shows 0 compassion for people in this type of situation. The only ones that do are the younger girls who are at the bottom of the totem pole and cant make any decisions. My home has 5 other dogs and a cat and I will make sure none of them have to go to this horrible place of business especially in their last moments. I can't even imagine how they treat the pets behind closed doors. Read Less

Horrible. Took our 10.5 yo Newf mix in with bloat at 4am. Called ahead and he was taken right away while I had to pay a deposit. Told them I would pay any amount, they could hold my card, but I wanted to be w/ him while I could or at least see him quick for just a kiss. He was sick and petrified. No. They made me stay out and took him. Vet came out and told me it was a 50/50 chance he would survive and No, I could not see my boy because he already had a trochar in place I didn't need to see and I needed to go home. I told her I was an RN, not bothered by bodily fluids, had been in surgery for my own pet before and wanted to give him a kiss. Again, she told me to go home and she'd call later. No! I was not going to leave with my boy in emergency surgery. She proceeded to raise her voice to me that she didn't have the time or staff to deal with me going in and out of the building. ?? It was dark and bitter cold, so not happening. Few min later, she returned to tell me the bloat was fixable, but our boy had a softball sized tumor on his liver she could not remove. With his age, we opted not to wake him so he would not suffer. THIS is exactly why I did not leave. I never got to see him while he was awake. I said good bye to him in the OR table. I left devastated and pissed. I forgot to get his collar before I left. Called later that am and it was gone. This happened awhile ago and now I go out of my way to go to ANY other ER but this one. The vet had no compassion and was downright rude. May she be treated poorly in similar situations and rot in hell. Read Less

When the mans family wanted to pick up the dog to bury him on their property this place refused to release the dog until the bill was paid. They should be ashamed of themselves. After we were seen and we looked at her X-ray, we noticed that her throat wasn't even looked at. We called back up and asked if they could take a look at her throat; the lady we spoke to was extremely rude and didn't care if her throat was looked at or not. She said she would charge us more to do another X-ray. They didn't even do what they were suppose to, and then they wanted to charge us more. Doctor never even called us back, like they said he would. Afterwards, our dog coughed up a turkey bone. Horrible place, never waste your money here!!! Read Less

Very nice and friendly vet, we had to go there when one of our dogs couldn't catch his breath. They were able to help us out and comfort us and today he is doing great again. I did want to say that I've had to go to many emergency vets and every one I've ever been to does not let you in the exam room with your pet, in general it's for your pets safety. So this emergency vet is no different. In regards to their pricing I had no problem with what we were charged. Was it more then a typical very visit, yes. But this was an emergency visit, more expenses come with that. Overall I really liked the vet and if we need another ER vet we will be going here again. Read Less

I agree with the other reviews that this vet just wants as much money as she can possibly get out of you. She takes advantage of the fact that you are emotional because your pet is injured or sick. I also was not allowed in the exam room when my cat was being examined. I have never been to a vet that doesn't examine your pet while you are in the room. I was told it would be a minimum of $1200. It was also recommended that the vet do exploratory surgery on my cat which would cost $6000. Who has that kind of money to spend on a pet. I was seriously considering having the cat put down but then decided to let her stay over night. Big mistake because apparently the vet was going to keep her until she got the $1200. I think my cat was just in shock from her injury because they next morning when I called the vet told me that "We've dodged a bullet" and the cat should be fine. DON'T TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS VET!!!! At the very least I think she is unethical. There are plenty of other emergency vets in the area that will not take advantage of you. I only used this one because it was closest to where I currently live. Read Less

Our outdoor cat had been previously diagnosed with a disease that we knew would be terminal. We knew he would not survive a much longer but since he was not in pain, we tried to extend his life as long as possible. He took a turn for the worse at 10 pm on a weeknight & could not move his back legs. We were concerned he had been hit by a car & my husband took him to Harford Emergency Vet. The staff was friendly, quickly diagnosed him & provided us with a honest assessment of his condition. Based on what happened (a blood clot related to his disease), we opted to humanely euthanize him. The staff was very understanding in a tough time. We also received a hand written sympathy card a few days later.Although it was not the outcome we had hoped for, I would absolutely recommend bringing your pet here in an emergency! Read Less

I took my cat here for a stomach issue.  It was an emergency to have a surgery done.  The surgery, if done as a non-emergency, is usually $250 or less, but because it was an emergency they wanted over $1400.  When I told them that I didn't have that much, they told me they would do the bare minimum (some antibiotics and some tests), and that I could try to find someone cheaper a couple of days later...but they couldn't guarantee anything.  They made me feel horrible for not having the money.  On top of it, they practically accused me of lying about her sexual past.  They made it seem like she would die if she didn't get the surgery, but might as well have said "Oh well, your cat can die then" when I couldn't pay what they wanted...wow, that is real caring right there!  I will NEVER be going there again, even if I have to travel to Texas to get my vet care! NEVER AGAIN!!!! I could not agree more with the previous poster! We took my dog there in the middle of the night and when we got there they gave us two options: an $800 work- up, or a $500 work-up! WHAT! In the meantime, another dog came in and needed immediate attention. When the vet came back to us, she pompously explained how in the medical world some things are more important than others and some patients are more critical than others... We hadn't complained about the other dog needing attention over ours, it was obvious he was sicker than ours. Little did she know that both of us work in a major Trauma Center for PEOPLE and she was not impressing us with her need to feel important! Anyway, she said there was nothing major wrong with the dog and sent us home with prescriptions for 4 medications...1 hour later our dog was dead. We took her body back and they said, "What happened?!" They told us that nothing was wrong with her when she was there earlier. Well, OBVIOUSLY something was wrong with her or we wouldn't have brought her in during the middle of the night! So sad because we would have had her put down if we knew she was dying...instead, she suffered until she died at home. After the initial charge, they charged us again to dispose of her body!
