We have been going to Brookeville Animal Hospital for over 25 years and everyone from Aurora to Jesse to all the vets and staff in between are the most competent and compassionate people you'll ever meet. Not only do they treat your pet as if it's their own, they truly care about their customers, which is evidenced in the amount of time they spend explaining a diagnosis, treatment, etc. The kindness we received when making that call all pet owners dread, was overwhelming. The staff couldn't have been any kinder in helping us through the loss of Casey and, most recently, Pixie. Can't say enough good things about this practice! Read Less

I have a 14-yo Maine Coon cat who has kidney disease, and if you know anything about that chronic, terminal condition (albeit common in elderly cats), it's quite the emotional roller coaster. They have good days and bad days, periods of not eating, each time the owner thinking "today's the day". Dr. Kane has been exceptional, both in her clinical care, and owner reassurance...returning phone calls on numerous occasions. Each call was never rushed, addressing my concerns and she was always open to an alternative treatment question, exploring all options. Phenomenal service and caring from all the Vets and staff (thanks Aurora!). I only wish they could do their own blood work for faster results, provide grooming services and ultrasounds (they do schedule an ultrasound Vet to do the work); but, I have tried another highly regarded clinic in the area that does all of the above and they were much rougher with sedating this fractious feline and each time that handling caused my little buddy's blood glucose to soar. So, I'll take competent, caring and compassionate care over all the bells and whistles at other clinics. Dr. Kane and Brookeville Animal Hospital are nothing short of exceptional. Read Less

I don't often write reviews, but I had to write this review. The vets here are top notch, along with the staff. Everyone is so friendly and the service is great. My dog has a health condition, Addison Disease. It has been a great concern to me, and has not always been dealt with at other animal hospitals in a thorough and knowledgeable manner.I brought my dog here, upon a referral and was thoroughly impressed and at ease. We were treated in a professional manner at all times. The staff even obtained the necessary records from our former vet. The cost here has been reasonable. I am sad to say, we have moved from the area and I'm in a search for the same trusted hands I have found here. As you know, the health of your pet is so important. My dog helped get my through breast cancer and now another major life event. Thank you to everyone at Brookeville Animal Hospital for all that you do. I just want you to know how grateful I am to everyone and how important you all are to the care of our pets. Read Less

I've only been here once, but we have a new puppy that we got from a farm in Texas, he was expensive (but well worth it), and we have a lot of pressure to make sure he has the best care around. Brookeville was recommended by a friend and former employee of the clinic, and my first visit was AWESOME. Not only was the staff super friendly and complimentary on my super cute and super smart little boy (maybe I'm biased), but the doctor asked a few questions for which I needed to text the breeder for answers. One of the questions was about a common genetic defect in full-bred Mini Aussies. My breeder was SO impressed that the doctor knew that could be a problem with the breed and asked it. Such a knowledgeable bunch of caring people. It's a little out of the way for me, but well worth the drive. I couldn't be happier! Read Less

We recently took our dog Sammy to the Brookeville Animal Hospital.  He had been seen previously by vets at two different branches of a large pet chain that has vet care in-store.  The pet store vet diagnosed his skin condition as malassezia and prescribed a topical ointment for his skin rashes, as well as some oatmeal shampoo to soothe his itching.  Neither of these treatments cleared up his condition. We were referred to the Brookeville Animal Hospital by a friend, and saw Dr. Deans.  She immediately recognized Sammy's condition as a staph skin infection.  She prescribed an oral antibiotic, as well as an antibiotic shampoo.  She also suggested that we treat Sammy with OTC Benadryl for his itching.  It's been just a few days now, and Sammy has shown remarkable improvement.  His skin sores are clearing up, his coat is shinier and smoother, and his temperament is much better.  He's our good old Sammy again.I can't say enough for how wonderful Dr. Deans, and Andrea, the Vet Tech were in working with us and Sammy and correctly diagnosing and treating his skin problems.  And the price for services rendered, including the meds, was very reasonable. When my cat had some sort of bumps on his chin, Dr. Engel told me that it was feline acne and that I needed medicated wipes for his chin. Knowing my financial situation, she told me that I could use stridex pads instead of buying wipes from her to help me save money. My bearded dragon has seen both Dr. Engel and Dr. Deans. I have been going here for 8 years and recently, I changed vets because I couldn't stand them anymore. With each year, prices have dramatically increased, and with the new addition that they built, prices are over the top. I wouldn't mind paying high prices for good service but Marcie Engel is not worth it.She's an average vet when it comes to dogs. But when it comes to birds and turtles, she doesn't know what she's doing. She denied my turtle medication for anything other than pain meds after his accident, and as a result, he died a short while after I brought him in.I took my parrots to see her, and it was clear that she didn't have the faintest idea what could causing their health issues. So her answer was to order up $1000 in tests, most being unnecessary and having nothing to do with the issue at hand. So I took them to an avian certified veterinarian, and she thought she had an idea what it was, ordered up just a couple of tests, treated them for it, and all this x2 (for the both of them) for way less than what I spent at Brookeville for just two wellness exams and one blood test. Her care for my dog has been adequate (except for her exuberance in wanting to order up multiple and expensive tests) until it came to her allergies, of which Marcie's only suggested treatment plan was pills. They didn't work and Marcie was out of ideas. I took her to another vet, and all that was required was a simple elimination diet. No pills. It worked wonders.Every time I tried to get them to approve prescriptions that I wanted to order and/or get refilled through a well known and legitimate online pharmacy, I had to jump through hoops to get anything accomplished. Every time the pharmacy called or faxed for approval, Brookeville claimed to never get these attempts at contact. I only got approval once I brought in the form with me and stood there waiting and watching one of the veterinarians sign it, then taking it home with me and faxing it in myself. Even then, they would only approve one dosage without authorizing refills so I would have to go through this inconvenient process each time I needed more. I'm assuming this was all done to discourage my buying from the online pharmacy so I would just give up and order directly from their practice. Which would have cost quite a deal more money.I also didn't like the extremely long wait times, even when they weren't busy. And then for Dr. Engel to rush through my appointment and act impatient if I ever had any questions. It has also been brought to my attention by a reliable source that Dr. Engel made a rude remark about me when I asked to see her because I had some legitimate and important questions, such as a request for prescription refills, a request for her to look at some lumps on my dog's skin, etc.I'm not paying some one, and especially not at their rates, to be treated like this and to receive sub par veterinary care for my pets. Their well-being is important. Too important to waste time at this practice and in Marcie's inadequate hands. Read Less

I credit Dr. Engle and her team for saving my bunny, Spot, 2 years ago. If you have ever owned a bunny, you'll understand how serious it is when I say, he hadn't pooped in 2 days.I had first taken Spot to a vet that was only 5 minutes away from me - and after $900 worth of treatment (and they didn't do anything but give him 3 X-rays, and feed him canned pineapple! No really, I looked on the invoice and that was ALL THEY DID!), they returned Spot to me - and he was sicker then ever!More worried then ever - but also determined NEVER to go back to the first vet...I took him to Dr. Engle (she was the only other bunny vet I could find in my area), and not only was she able to rescue him from sure death...but she did it without frightening me, but was very careful to manage my expecations. After 3 hours, Spot started to poop again! She gave me meds and taught me how to administer the regulan, and how to keep him healthy...!I have never looked back! Dr. Engle saved the life of my bunny, and once my husband and I get a dog - she will be the only vet for me! She was wonderful and kind, and her entire staff was friendly and professional! Read Less

Read Less
