I am sure when this practice started, the vets cared more about the pets they were treating vs. how much money they could make.  But, like so many other vets this has changed dramatically.  Perhaps they are increasing revenue to be sold.  The receptionists are not friendly, even argumentative (specifically Denise) when you question a charge on a bill that the doctor stated would be less. No true customer service at allThis is the second negative experience I have had with them so I will not be back.  They requested I review them, I gave permission for the not so hot review to be posted online. So far no review online - it's been two weeks.  One would think they would call to find out what they could to do improve based on my experience and review.  However, it's clear they don't really care about me, my pets or repeat business. While a pretty big place our two dogs are well-cared for and happy when we pick them up from a boarding visit. The grooming they did was excellent. They take very good care of our dogs, a miniature dachshund and a lab mix. We have been to other places since moving back to the area and this place is the best. Read Less

Used to be OK when I first took my pets there. My last experience was no emotion or empathy, but money was made extremely clear. I took my sick dog in to get checked out, within minutes notified I would owe for that visit and recommended to a specialist for tests $1k-$2k. Made an appointment for the same day, and my dog passed away 2 hours later. I got a brief "I am sorry" do you want an autopsy at $400? No one mentioned the cremation for $350. (surprise bc that's all that kept coming up was how much everything is) They called my EX who's number should have been deleted to say I owed $776. Then called me to discuss autopsy report + payment. 1 week later calls me AGAIN to ask when would I pay, can I do it right now over the phone? I said no, and the reply was "Well what exact day are you going tp pay so I can tell my manager." My dog dies unexpectedly on July 5th and instead of showing ANY sign of sympathy, all you are worried about is your money. What a shame. Read Less

Will be finding a new Vet. This vet is not close to me or cheap yet I was going there because I  thought they were the best. The vets here are NOT personable and are extremely condescending. They seem scared to touch my dog yet don't bring any techs in the room to help me hold him so the Vet can look at him. These are some of the worst vets when it comes to customer service. I've been a pet owner for 13 years and this is my first dog so I expect his care to be top notch. My last few visits to Buckeystown were SO disappointing I never want my dog to go back again! I took my 6 year old Pom there on March 21, 2017 for a routine teeth cleaning. He died in their care. Basically they said they did not know why he died and that they attempted to resuscitate him a couple of times. I was required to pay for the procedure anyway. They did cremate him and provide me with his ashes after initially requesting payment for that too or I could have taken his dead body home. I had used them before with another Pom and his teeth were successfully cleaned there without incident. I now trust no one with my current Pom who is 5 months old now. I have been unable to take him anywhere to be groomed so far as I don't trust leaving him anywhere. I have been in the room always when he has had anything done and I am scared to get him neutered because of anesthesia needing to be administered. Read Less

We boarded our dog there for 4 days and nights while we were on vacation. We went to pick her up after getting back and the staff was unfriendly and most didn’t even acknowledge us when we came in. When reviewing her stay information for payment, there was a charge for a vaccine that we did not know about. When we questioned them about it, they said it was necessary in order for her to be boarded there. We were never asked or gave any consent for our dog to be vaccinated and we were never told that vaccination was necessary. When we told them we were never asked about a vaccination, they said she needed it to stay there and whoever dropped her off consented. Considering I was the one who dropped her off and went over everything with them, I was shocked by the conversation. Our dog already had this vaccination and they never bothered to contact her vet or ask me if she was up to date on this vaccination. Realizing our dog had been double vaccinated, we asked if that would hurt her and the response was “she should be fine.” We had given a bag of toys for her to play with since she is very active and we wanted to make sure she wasn’t just sitting around doing nothing and being bored. We also left a specific bowl that she needs for eating to keep her from eating too fast and gagging. When we got home, we realized the bowl had never been used and the toys had never been touched. Some of the toys being brand new made it obvious they were never given to her. We did speak with a manager the following day and she was very pleasant to deal with and gave us a small refund on her playtime. She was the absolute only positive part of this experience and we will not be bringing our dog back again. Read Less

We brought our rescued pit bull here for his initial appointment and the staff were absolutely great. I felt that the vet was very personable and she got down on the floor with our dog rather than having me put him up on the table and hold him there. I am very comfortable taking my beloved pet here for care. This is my second family pet to receive care here and I wouldn't have it any other way. Both the doctors and vet techs have a strong love for animals and it shows in the care they provide to our fur babies. I have also kennels my pet here. I like the fact that if anything happened to her they would know exactly how to care for her since they have her medical history on hand. I would recommend this place to anyone who has a pet. We love this clinic! The quality of care is excellent, which is ultimately the main objective. But, in addition to providing good care, the staff are friendly and kind. Doctors communicate treatment options with compassion and understanding. They treat each pet like family. A big bonus is that the costs are very reasonable when compared to the more urban clinics that are closer to metropolitan DC. Well worth the drive from Bethesda. Read Less

The vets and techs here have been very kind and courteous. They helped us overcome our dog's allergies and ear infections. I'm sad to write this review because my experiences with Buckeystown, up to the last visit. were good. The staff has always been friendly but I was disgusted by their behavior on my last visit. My dog had an injury on his paw ( turned out to be a small cut in a hard-to-heal place) I was on time for my appointment but waited 30 minutes to be taken back to an exam room. When the rude vet tech came in she said she was taking him to get him heart worm test. I explain he has an injury on left paw so draw blood from the other side as he is sensitive about anyone getting close it. She just looked at me with a blank stare then said 'ok' and walked away. The room they use is directly beside the exam room so I could hear her and another tech being negative about my request AND THEN the moved forward with trimming his nails- he only went back to have blood drawn and after I explained the injured paw WHY would you then try to trim the nails on it? They made remarks over what a baby he was being and then he must have started to bleed. I heard one tech say just grab the ear cleaner that works too. EAR CLEANER as a clotting agent? Apparently it was bad because they joked about blood being everywhere. I was furious but knew it was almost and waited for them to get him sorted and bring him back. When the vet finally came in 45 minutes after my set appointment time I was seething. I told her she needs to remind her staff that you can hear almost very word they said.....the Vet was nice and apologized. She advised she would tell her office manager but sadly... that was it.  $267.00 later  and not even a follow up call. No manger ever called to ask what happened or apologize. Read Less

This place is like Jiffy Lube in that you go there for simple maintenance but you'd never let them replace your engine. Took my pet in for a very noticeable condition.  They ordered a test, performed it and told me they needed another test, this time for more money. Performed it and told me they needed yet another test.  Each test took weeks to schedule since they seem to have to bring in outside specialists for almost everything. The last test required exploratory surgery. After a few days, my pet stopped eating and moved very little. Called BV and was told that this could be related to the pain medication and that I could bring my pet to an animal emergency room at a different pet hospital since they were closing for the day. Sadly, we didn't need to make that appointment as my pet died shortly after that. The real kicker was the test that the exploratory surgery was done for was never completed. I was told, it was yet another additional cost. A week later, I was called and it was determined that I had actually paid for the test. A week later the results of the test came in and what my pet had was completely treatable. I will say everybody is extremely friendly and I'm sure this is a good place for vaccines and grooming / boarding. Read Less

My 2 year old Rottweiler Halo just had TPLO surgery with Dr George. Every one at BVH are awesome!! Heather and Deanna have been treating Halo for months now on a very bad leg injury which ultimately needed surgery with Dr George Both Heather and Deanna kiss and hug Halo and provided the most loving and caring therapy through out our journey. Love this vet! I'm picky about who handles my fur babies care and this place is amazing! From caring staff to doctors who take extra special care with my dogs, I love them! Shortly after moving here I found myself in dire need of a vet asap for one of my dogs, I called everywhere and it was at least a 3 day wait (she couldn't wait that long), BVH got me in the next day! 20 mins after getting there my pup had an acid reflux diagnosis and we were on our way with antacids! Just this past week we brought my other girl in for a spay and although she was a nervous wreck (she peed on the scale) they were so warm and loving toward her! The lady at the front desk even told me things I didn't need while she was in for her spay unless I had the money and I thought it was really necessary!Highly recommend BVH to anyone looking for a new vet! In our short time of living in Frederick County, we had the pleasure of bringing our lab Jordan to Buckesytown Vet. Unfortunately, we had to put Jordan down a couple weeks ago at Buckeystown. Their office is so LOVING and caring, they really do care about all the four legged friends that come through, and they were very compassionate in a time when we needed it most. After picking Jordan's remains last week, we got a card in the mail today from the staff there. Hand written notes throughout the card by 15+ staff members about how sad they were about Jordan's passing. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars! Read Less

My boy is gone becouse of some bad surgery. Never even got a call. Probably better I didnt. Don't know where I will go but I will never let one of my dogs go back to that place. The night after surgery I called there emergency number I had more questions as what to do before I called and I was going to get charged for looking at what they just messed up. To top it off they didn't really seem to want to meet me at the clinic. We'll if you want to avoid a double charge if he needs to see emergency vet. Never in my life other than a doc shyden. Took our 4 month old puppy here for the first time today and was really impressed! Everybody was professional, personable, and they really took the time to build a rapport with him before doing the less fun injection stuff. The doctor definitely does research on her own time, and set up a vaccination schedule so we wouldn't be doing too many shots at once. At one point during our exam, she was called for an emergency and she flew out of the room...you don't see that kind of hustle in someone who doesn't care. My cat Harold had ear surgery yesterday and while waiting for call letting me know he was out of surgery, I found my cat Daizie unresponsive. I put her in crate & drive her straight to buckeystown vet, the doctor stopped working on Harold to give Daizie CPR but she was gone. While I said my goodbyes to my girl they finished up with Harold as quick as they could so I didn't need to make another trip. They let me stay in room with Daizie until Harold was ready to come home and brought the bill to me so I didn't need to pay upfront. They offered me some of her hair, shaved the part I wanted & did paw print for me.Read Less

I love this practice.  You don't wait long to be seen.  The boarding is fantastic if you have to board your pets.  I was walking our dogs to the car, and two of the vet techs who were walking dogs not only knew the names of the dogs but came over to say how much they liked the dogs.  Did I mention the K-9 police board their personal dogs here?  I would use these vets for our dogs' routine care except that we live in Gaithersburg.  If we have to go out of town, I would not hesitate to bring the dogs here.  Excellent customer service and caring! Dr. Deluca recently assisted us in regards to breeding our dog. She was patient, answered all questions, and spent a lot of time with us. We started our little dream farmette complete with six lambs, too many chickens to count and two LGD dogs about two years ago. It's been a tough learning curve for us, but Buckeystown Vet has been there for us every step of the way. From Sunday morning emergency farm visits for a down lamb to well puppy checks, they have been there to educate us, treat our livestock aliments and keep up with the progress of each sick animal. My hat is off to this group of phenomenal female vets! Yes, you read that right, the vets are all women and I, for one, couldn't be more pleased. They truly care about the animals and their families in their care and always go the extra mile to make sure your animals get the best possible care. From a staff friendliness perspective, technicians and vets, they are top notch. reception just average, maybe above. While I am not a customer of record, they are the vet for the foster dogs in a program I volunteer so I am often in and out, picking up a dog, or seeing a vet, who ever is available, and only had good experiences.
