This was my first visit to the Crofton Veterinary Center with my dog Lily and they definitely have a customer for life! I adopted my dog from Las Vegas and, understandably she is VERY nervous and flighty but around the all female staff here, she was much more relaxed. They are very professional, kind, and understanding to timid dogs needs. If you are on the fence about trying them out, don't be. I'm from the Bowie area and it's worth the drive to have her comfortable and happy. Read Less

My husband and I brought our labs Alley and Pippa here, and even our guinea pig (they graciously agreed to trim her nails for us, even though they don't specialize in small or exotic pets). We LOVED this place so much. So much. Drs Harker and Maxson are wonderful- professional and knowledgeable and compassionate. Dr Harker is a little more straight-laced- sort of a "let's get down to business and see what's going on" demeanor. And Dr Maxson is vivacious and outgoing- you won't go wrong with either doctor. My husband and I moved to Seattle several years ago, and Crofton Vet is one of maybe two things we miss about living in Maryland. We haven't had any success finding a vet here who is remotely comparable to Crofton Vet. We had such a wonderful relationship with this place- when our lab Alley was too sick (she had lung cancer) to keep going on, they sent one of their vets to our home to help her pass in peace, even though they don't specialize in at-home euthanizations. It was hard for the vet who did it- she had tears in her eyes, and she said, "seeing a pet in their home like this makes it so much more personal for me- seeing how she was loved and part of your home and life." Her words and compassion have stayed with me years later. Our lab Pippa passed away from mast cell cancer last spring (just in case Dr Maxson sees this review), and my husband and I want to thank Crofton Vet for everything they did for us and for sweet Al and Pip. We will always be grateful to you. And, Dr Maxson, Pip got to swim many times in the Puget Sound. She never did get another cheesy eye infection like the one she got swimming in the Chesapeake. Bring your pets here. Seriously. Crofton Vet is a gem. Read Less

This place will charge you and charge you and over charge you and over charge you and over charge you again and again on repeat. They will charge you for the air you breathe. They will charge you for every floor tile you step on. They will charge you for every chair you sit on. They will charge you and over charge you for everything. Remember, you are being over charged - not just for the "quality" care they provide - because, of course, it's the "best" in the area (!), but also for the cute lab coats they all wear! Please do yourself a favor. Do a price comparison of local veterinarian services! You will be shocked by how much this corporate business has ripped you off! I sure was! And, you can find the same or better quality care from those other local veterinary services. Believe me! I'm sure a member of their staff will write a counter comment to this review. And, that's okay! Just remember, YOU, as the customer, are paying for that as well. Read Less

I want to give a good review because they take good care of my pup but every time I go there I wait at least 20 minutes for my appointment, even if it is just with the vet tech. You walk in and there are 2 girls at the desk, and if one is busy the other one completely ignores you. Anal gland expression is $45, even in conjunction with another issue! It's usually empty but still the long wait. My dog needed a flu shot and anal gland expression and it was $120! Really, no Vet involved. I asked the receptionist why the high cost and she mentioned the cost of vet tech and  "supplies" they need to use like gloves, lube and wipes. Really? $45? How much do vet techs make an hour? I have friends who tell me when their dog is at their vets for other issues they throw in the anal gland expression for free. I guess this is common practice but what a shock! Read Less

Will never take any of my animals here again! My family has been going here for 15 years but has recently switched because the management is terrible. The vets are kind but the front desk staff and manager are extremely rude. Called everyday for 2 weeks in a row to speak to the manager since I was quoted one price and charged another, and she has the audacity to ask why "I didn't call her sooner". This establishment is not only outrageously expensive, but quote you one price, and then charge you another. They quoted me $12 to cut my dogs nails and then charged my $32. Read Less

The docs here are absolutely amazing, especially Dr. Maxson! We have been taking all of our pets here (over the years it's totaled 6) and they have always received wonderful care. We've even taken them for some wonky predicaments that only puppies can create. Every time there was a cause and solution identified. We found this place after receiving poor care from Banfield (to the tune of $1200). They went on a wild goose chase taking test after test, visit after visit and never found the problem.  15 minutes with Dr. Maxson and she had the problem identified (Banfield wasn't even on the right body part) and had a treatment plan figured out in one visit. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and genuine care these doctors display towards you and your furry companion. Read Less

I used to take my dog to Crofton Veterinary Center. He was a solid 100 pound american bulldog mix. Although his size was intimidating to most the staff always knew how to handle him. They were always kind and patient with him even when he was being stubborn! Two months ago my sweet gentle giant became very sick. I took him in, they helped me get him out of the car and into the clinic. Honestly, I knew he was dying but I would have tried anything to save him. The vet (I wish I could remember her name) was so kind, caring and empathetic. She allowed me and my sister to take all the time we needed with him. My dog passed away before she came back in the room. I'm glad that I was with him and he wasn't alone. There are no words for how awesome the staff is at Crofton Vet!! They made a paw print for me and my sister. They sent me a sympathy card that had a personalized message from every single person that works there! I would give them 10 stars if I could! Our pets are our family and they will be in good hands with any of the staff! I just want to thank everyone that works there for being so kind and caring! This is a review for the groomer.  I came here for the groomer, and I'm about to go again, so I do like this place.  They were friendly, gave my dog a nice haircut, and had standard grooming prices (my dog was about $65, he's a small Shih Tzu/Poodle mix).  Also, my dog is eight years old, and while those chain pet stores make you sign a waiver for a senior dog, this place doesn't (because they're also a vet).  They're also able to do an internal expression of the anal glands if needed for a fee, after the groomer does an external expression.  They're also willing to keep your dog until the vet closes.  However, there's some little annoying catches.  The groomer is only available Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and you have to bring your pet in between 8-9 AM and they groom pets in the order that they arrive.  If you are able to deal with the scheduling, this is a great groomer! There are quite a few veterinarians in the Crofton area and after reading reviews, I picked this office for my puppy's first exam and am glad I did. The office made a great first impression which was a great start. As soon as we walked in, all the front desk staff were very friendly and greeted my puppy by his name. I'd recommend this office for the following reasons:1. Prices are competitive - it was $40 for the initial puppy exam and $42 for stool sample. Stool sample results came back within a day.2. Hours are convenient for working families - they open until 7:30pm every night and also on Saturdays. 3. Friendly staff, technicians and doctor -  there are several doctors at this office, but Dr. Harker was the one who examined my puppy. She was professional and took the time to answer all of our questions. The front desk staff even called the next day to check how the puppy is doing!4. With the first exam, they give you a free puppy pack which includes: a bag of dog treats (which my puppy LOVES), training guide, 1 tablet of heart guard, and 1 tablet of flee/tick prevention. We tried Gambrills Veterinary Center for our newly rescued kitten. From the moment we arrived we felt that we were bothering them. We were greeted with people at the front desk staring at us. I had to be the first one to speak to tell them we were there for an appointment. We waited 45 minutes to be seen and no animals came from the back as we were waiting so it wasn't because they were with someone else. When we were seen the vet was very unfriendly. Our kitten already had almost all of his vaccinations when we rescued him except for one. The vet looked at his ears and said they were fine, a little dirty but no ear mites. They took him into a back room for the one vaccination he need, which I found weird that they didn't do in front of us. When he was in the back we could hear him screaming like he was in pain for about 5-7 minutes, my husband was ready to go in the back himself to get him. They bought him back to us and his ears were completely down and they just said that they went ahead cleaned them for us. A few days later he sounded congested so we took him to Crofton Veterinary Center because I was not going back to Gambrills. He had a sever upper respiratory infection. He also had ear mites when Gambrills told us he didn't. The staff and doctor at Crofton were absolutely wonderful with him. They cleaned his ears in front of us and he didn't make a noise or even try to get away from the tech. We have had several follow ups with Crofton Veterinary Center due to him testing positive to ringworm and we LOVE them! The amount of time and attention they give is amazing! Poor customer service when it was needed the most. My dog had stage 4 cancer and had reached the end. After his tumor removal surgery on his face 6 months prior I didn't want his last memory be a another traumatic vet visit, so I requested someone come to my house, only a few blocks away. I didn't want to have to explain to another vet why the euthanasia was necessary so I requested Maxson who made the original diagnosis. Two days...we waited during his suffering decline. It became a desperate situation and I called twice more, but then frantically called literally every vet service in the area until mercy was finally found for my beloved dog. Through my tears I had to justify the request for euthanasia to the emergency vet, even though it was obvious. Maxson later called to express her condolences and explained that they have to coordinate house visits between office visits. Really?!?! Not appreciated. He suffered while we waited patiently, only to be left searching desperately for an alternative vet. When someone makes that difficult decision for their pet, it should become a priority in your office, not at your earliest convenience. Every minute counts at that point. Very disappointed. Read Less

The doctors here did an AMAZiING job with my husky.  I'm a fairly new dog owner and my poor baby caught kennel cough but I had no idea what it was and was freaking out.  As soon as I arrived we were nicely separated from other dogs there so they wouldn't catch the cough (in case that was it) and the doctor took us very quickly.  She was able to very quickly recognize the cough and made some excellent recommendations in the diet for both my husky and german shepherd.  She also took the time to explain to me a lot of things I didn't know and clear misconceptions about what dogs need and don't need.Every recommendation worked and my dogs are doing better than ever.  Their coats are so shiny, they have more energy and the butt scoots of the husky have completely gone away (which I never thought would happen).  It's really nice to work with someone who cares about your babies almost as much as you do. From there I bounced around to a vet in Millersville, Gambrills and Glen Burnie but never got the warm, fuzzy feeling I was looking for from any of them (especially the veterinary center in Gambrills!) so I kept looking. From my very first visit to Crofton Veterinary Center I knew they were exactly what I had been searching for in practice.  They are kind and compassionate and I have never felt rushed or like it is all about money. They have convenient hours and have even fit me in when I needed pet care quickly. Of the three vets, I see Dr. Harker.  She's thorough and knowledgeable and I have complete confidence in her.  The entire staff is friendly and caring but I am particularly fond and grateful for the vet tech Elizabeth who went above and beyond in being there for me and my pet when things were not going well. I feel very fortunate to have found Crofton Veterinary Center. Read Less

Very caring. This is the first vet I have used and they were very sweet with helping me ensure my new rescued dog was healthy. They even accomodated me for an emergency sanity check - that says caring, for the animal and owner. I love the convenience of requesting an appointment online. The staff were very friendly and helpful with gathering all the initial essentials I needed to get for my new dog. The Dr was also friendly and had a great bedside manner, something I purposedly took note of to determine if I'd be back. I look forward to a long relationship with this office. Read Less

We just got our new yorkie puppy about a 5 weeks ago and she had some health problems in the beginning, plus we're still getting Sophie vaccinated so we were at the vet much more than we'd like, but they always made it an enjoyable experience. The doctors are so helpful and very informative. They let you know exactly what is going on and explain everything 110% You can tell they really love animals here! I just recently adopted my first puppy. The shelter recommended Crofton Vet Hospital. From the first phone call to set up the apointment, down to the actual visit itself, I was pleased with the doctors and staff. Dr. Klickman was very kind and took time to answer all my questions. The two assistance Nena and Matt were very helpful. They took time to show me how to clip my dogs nails as well as going over flea, tick, and heartworm treatment. I would highly recomend this Vet to anyone. They are friendly, patient, and the office was very clean. Read Less

take 3 of my cats to this vet and couldnt be more happier. I've worked in the vet and rescue field both which involve doing surgical procedures on animals and its very easy to blame the vets and practice for the loss of an animal while being under anesthesia. Even with bloodwork theres always a risk, And my question/comcern is about the procedure itself. Declawing is never reccomened by any vet and i've inquired about it my self to this veterinary practice, which they didnt reccomened it therfore I never did it, But if you do the research on declawing it is a COSMETIC surgery/ELECTIVE surgery, meaning not necessary so I blame the owner for even trying to have it done. This Vet practice is outstanding and all of its staff is too. First let me say that the receptionist Nikki is very funny and very very friendly she always knows me when i come in. I've seen 2 techs Erika, and Nina, both very knowledgable and share similar experiences in life which to me is very important. They've been there quite awhile now which is also very imprtant to me. all 3 of my cats are very comfortable with these techs and the Vet, Dr. Harker has been my vet for 3 years now. I would trust any of these women with my cats lives regarless of the outcome and that to me is all I need to continue bringing my animals there. I highly Reccomend this practice to anyone. My only advice is research any surgeries or just ask the staff if they would do it to there own animals. Like in human medicine theres always a risk with anesthesia, the only differance is people can talk animals can't. Read Less

Read Less

Best vet I've EVER had!  I had a sick cat (cancer) and called my regular vet in Bowie because she was in pain, but he was on vacation.  Dr. Klickman from this office was standing in for him and was so helpful and caring and prescribed steroids to help comfort my cat, which Dr. Seddon never even suggested.  After she passed, I began taking my other fur ball to Crofton Vet Center and never looked back.  The doctors here are awesome and genuinely caring.  They have a customer for life with me.The only con would be even though the front desk is helpful, they could be a little friendlier. I first brought my cat here in 2006 for her vaccines and a check up. Dr. Maxson and the staff here are absolutely phenomenal. We have been back over and over again for various injuries, ilnesses, and check-ups over the years and the staff has always been friendly, understanding, and incredibly helpful. My cat was diagnosed with mammary cancer in early 2012 and Dr. Maxson has been instrumental in her care. From surgery to pain medication to filling out form after form for our pet insurance provider, the staff here has never failed to make me feel like my pet is the most important pet in their care. There is always a follow-up call after every visit. We are moving out of the area this year and I don't know how I will ever find another vet that has made me as comfortable and happy as this one has. The level of service provided here is above and beyond anything I have experienced before. Read Less

I'm a new cat owner and was suckered into going to one of those "vets" at a pet store. It was a pretty traumatic experience for my kitten, myself and even my daughter! They were rude, money hungry and didn't seem to care much about our kitten. My sister recommended Crofton Vets and says she wouldn't take her two larger dogs anywhere else.  I had a very pleasant experience at this vets! Everyone was kind, gentle and very professional. The ladies at the front desk are fast and efficient, the vet assitants are all very knowledgeable and gentle with our kitten, and the vets (I've seen two from this office) both exceeded my expectations! If you're looking for a vet in the area - just start off here! You won't have to look around anymore!

Crofton Vet Center, specifically Dr. Klickman, worked with us for months when our elderly cat had diabetes, and we eventually had to put him down. They were always helpful, kind, and sensitive to the difficulty we were going through. Now we bring our pug/chihuahua mix there, and they've been great to him as well. Unfortunately, it's a little expensive, but it's worth it for my peace of mind. Read Less

Crofton Veterinary Center is by far the most wonderful vet we have ever been too.  I went to another vet in Crownsville for many years until I found out about some internal issues there that sent me searching for a new Vet.

Definitely take your little fur babies here if you need a vet! Read Less

Read Less
