We have used Bay Country, both personally and professionally, ever since we moved to the area about 8-9 years ago. In this time there has only ever been one staff-related problem. But after addressing it with the head doctor, the professionalism displayed only further reassured me of how top-notch this place is.Our pets have never been scared or unhappy coming here - the staff spoils them ridiculously! They have seen our dog and cats through many stages of life, and have helped with many ailments (having only owned rescues, there have been plenty of ailments for them to figure out and deal with!). Sadly they had to be with us just a week ago when I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our cat Frankie down. While there was nothing easy about it, the staff at Bay Country was amazing. The straight-forward, yet outstanding bedside manner of Dr. Bauer; the compassionate, yet professional counsel from Dr. McLean; and the warm, comforting assurance of Dr. Smith who did the procedure, coupled with the vet tech, Amy, who was so helpful, understanding and comforting, and the receptionists, Victoria and Charlotte, who were such sweethearts that entire morning dealing with all my phone calls... I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to walk this hard road with.I appreciate this facility so much, and highly recommend them to everyone.

Having owned pets my whole life and lived in many different cities, I have been to my fair share of vets offices. This one really takes the cake. Bay Country Veterinary Hospital is one of (if not THE) best vets I have ever been to. I recently had my dog's first visit to the Crownsville location, which was also her annual check up. The prices were fair, and they even printed me a price list for her vaccines PRIOR to even seeing the doctor so I would know what I was in for. The ENTIRE staff takes the time to get to know your pet and dote on them. They all made sure my dog was comfortable prior to putting hands on her, and they let her stay with me and cuddle with me throughout the appointment, as she was fairly nervous. The day after her appointment I received a phone call from the office making sure I didn't have any questions, and letting me know what a pleasure it was to meet me and my dog. I also received a card in the mail with a gift certificate and a toy for my dog within a few days. I will continue to be a loyal supporter of this office!

Bay Country has been our veterinary clinic for many years. Our children now take their pets to Bay Country. The staff is sharp, attentive, kind and they KNOW our family and our pets. We never have to spend time bringing anyone 'up to speed' on what's going on with a particular pet. The doctors who have cared for our furry family are incredibly compassionate, but also firm about what we, as owners, need to do on behalf of our pets.....they gently hold our feet to the fire, as it were. Our pets are always their first priority.
We can't say enough good things about the care given to our pets and family at this practice!

We've been taking our dog here since our family adopted her almost two years ago. We originally saw Dr. Bauer, but now see Dr. McLean. They've both provided excellent care to our pup and we are grateful that this hospital is close by! I will note that we had to see a different vet for a last-minute appointment, and they weren't nearly as good with our dog as Dr. Bauer and Dr. McLean are. We actually had to cut the appointment short because our dog was so terrified and the vet/tech weren't able to calm her down. We rescheduled with Dr. McLean, who was incredibly patient and worked with our dog to calm her down (it turns out that wrapping her in a baby blanket so she can't see what's happening makes the visit much easier for our dog). Another time I had questions about our pup's medications, and Dr. Bauer gave me a detailed explanation over the phone. An added plus - they're always very flexible about rescheduling appointments. I definitely recommend this hospital for dog owners.

I love the staff at BCVH. The vets and nurses as well as the office staff make our pets and family feel comfortable by explaining what they are doing and the purpose of all charges. Our 3 pets (2 cats and 1 dog) are so happy and healthy. I especially appreciate the laser therapy our 13.5 year old shiba inu has been receiving for her arthritis. She had stopped running up and down the stairs of our townhouse and now she is jumping and playing like a puppy again AS WELL AS running up and down the stairs again. They have helped our cats behavioral issues also. I cannot recommend them strongly enough.

While this would be an acceptable in a public setting, a reputable vet should know and understand and take the proper precautions in training their techs when handling animals in duress and plan accordingly. I couldn't put zero stars so I'll settle for one. We just has a baby which caused my bird to act out in a plucking temper tantrum. I called the vet and explained that he was now starting to bleed. They did a ton of tests (of which they did not explain to my husband was not included in the exam) only to tell us exactly what I told them "he's just acting out". They gave no suggestions about the bleeding (Which was my only concern) and told him to look online for suggestions for stressed birds (which is what I was doing, last resort call a vet is what it said).
What made it worse was that they called the police on my husband because he was nodding off in the waiting room.Embarrassingly enough, he had to explain in front of our ten year old son that he starts work at 4am and was extremely worn out at this 7:30 pm visit (hence the giant mug of coffee). He only came out this late so that I wouldn't have to bring a nursing baby out in the cold to a vet, and so our kids wouldn't have to worry about a bleeding bird hopping through the house. I plan on starting a pet boarding and dog walking service in the near future, this will NOT be the vet that I will partner with. It's a shame since I am looking for a good vet to help with our exotic pets.

Overall, I am really, really happy with this vet. I like most of the doctors (particularly Dr Dearie), but the people who really make the experience for me and my dog are the techs (at the Admiral Drive location especially). Last time I was there, my dog was sick and didn't want anyone to mess with his ears. The tech was so loving and gentle with him and even sang him a song.I can always find a convenient appointment time and barely wait at all to be seen. It isn't the most glamorous location for an office, but it works for me!

Bay Country Veterinary Hospital is the best and most caring place around to take your loved pet. The doctors are amazing, the nurses are as well. They are all knowledgeable and thorough. They do business like the way it used to be. They care about you and your pet after you leave and will follow up with a phone call to see how everyone is doing. I have been going there for about 15 years and have had three different furry children there. They all give them the best care and treat them with love. Being military and an animal lover, I have been to many vets. Bay Country Vets are at the top of the list for professionalism, loving, compassionate, and knowledgeable vets, ease of getting appointments, and incredibly short wait times. I have never waited longer than 5-7 minutes in the lobby and maybe 5 minutes in the exam room.Every vet we have seen, Dr. Bauer, Dr. McLean, and Dr. Smith, have been excellent.Our dog Joe has congestive heart failure, hypothyroid, and growths on his liver. When Dr. McLean and I discussed options, I felt like my concerns were heard and validated and the decision about his care was a joint effort. I cannot recommend Bay Country Vets highly enough.

The level of care at this facility is good, but I agree with the experience reported by others, in that our bills are *significantly* higher than when Dr. Hall was operating out of this location. It's also not unusual for us to be peppered with recommendations on miscellaneous tests. We love our pets, but don't have unlimited funds to pay for costly non-essential testing and services. We take our pets to Bay Country when necessary, but unless the high cost of their pet care comes down, we'll have little choice but to seek alternatives.

The care Mia (golden retriever mix) and Beauty (american short hair) receive is exceptional. My only complaint is that Mia looks forward to boarding a little too much! Bay Country is, in my opinion, an excellent place to take your pet. Dr. Bauer and his staff are warm and friendly, yet professional and efficient. They are able to strike that balance between providing top-notch pet health care and extending a kind, understanding warmth in their practice. My Betsy was a patient there for many years, the last several of them with kidney disease. From her first visit there until her last, she was given the very best, and kindest, care by everyone and I cannot express my gratitude enough to these fine people. When Dr. Bauer helped her pass over, it was done with incredible tenderness and compassion. I will never forget the wonderful folks at Bay Country, and I will hold them in my heart, always.

I think the entire staff love them as much as we do. It is comforting to have such confidence in the doctors caring for our pups, to know they always have their best interest at heart. My first vist was with Dr. Bauer and on that first visit I had to put my sweet boy down. Dr. Bauer and the staff were AMAZING. I have been taking my pets to Bay Country ever since that first visit, which has been over 6 years. Some of the staff is ok, but they could be a little too sappy/fake. Then they did sneak charges on my bill that were not clearly explained or exactly truthful. For instance they showed me a $400 or so cost for shots for my dog; I explained that I did not want to pay this at the time and to only give the most important shots. Next thing I know, I am checking out and BAM they stuck me with an extra shot that I did not agree too. They also told me that charges for a poop test were included and that I only had to bring the poop, but that was a lie and I was charged.
Then as I was about to walk out of the door, they literately RUSHED one more test and the tech would not tell me the results as she ran past me and whispered something to the Vet. Now I need heart worm meds. The poor girl ringing me up was nervous and almost babbling about how expensive pets were as she hit me with the total, BAM, $500 and change. I just paid knowing I would NEVER return, especially since they had already hit me with the BIG missed appointment fee. They hit me hard on the Heart Worm meds too and I felt violated to see how inexpensive it is to just buy it on Amazon.
My wife was very upset and called them right away and canceled all future appointments.

I found this vet a few months ago. The staff is friendly and the Doctors and Techs seem to be very well educated. I really enjoy visiting here cause they are personable with my pets (family) and have far pricing. Which is helpful to me due to having 5 pets! They have never done anything with my pets without my knowledge, and have always been up front with costs. A Huge plus is that they accept the Care Credit which is a great thing to have when you have some many fur kids.They only thing that could use is a little up dating, but they are clean and keep up the place as much as they can without getting a full remodel.

He and his staff respected and made allowances for the differences in the ways my wife and I mourn, and they were very patient with us. For that, I am very grateful. That it has taken several weeks for me to gather the strength to write this review should be interpreted as no reflection of the strength of my sincerity in writing it.It's been a very traumatic time for us. Without the generous, compassionate care of Dr. Bauer and his staff, our loss would have been even more painful. This compassion is what separates an adequate veterinary practice from an exemplary one.

I'm not sure what has happened over the past year.. this place used to be decent, a little pricey, but convenient. My last two visits have left me out over $800-- $400 and some change for my healthy dog's annual checkup and vaccines (uh, yeah, no.) They even de-wormed my dog, without checking to see if he has worms (he doesn't) and charged me a pretty penny for it. When my beagle was having some stomach issues (due to stress, he doesn't handle change-- our moving apartments-- very well), we ended up paying over $400 for the lady vet to try to sell us some shitty "special diet" (science diet corn sh*t) and tell my husband that she needed to run complete bloodwork on our dog because "i would hate for it to be kidney failure"... If you want to be ripped off, bring your dog here. Never again. I'm going to drive the 45 minutes back to Washington, D.C. to our lovely former vet at Dupont Veterinary Clinic. Don't waste your money or time.

I took my senior dog here for an emergency visit after she was very badly attacked by another dog. The whole experience was very stressful. Fortunately though the entire staff treated me and my dog with true compassion. It is obvious they care. They even stayed open for me on a Sunday when I discovered my dog had developed some complications. They called me after each visit to check on her progress and when I came back to the clinic, I was instantly recognized. I was also provided photos for documentation upon request. I have docked one star because apparently someone left a bit of surgical tube in my dog when it was supposed to have been removed completely. I would recommend this practice.

We have used Bay Country, both personally and professionally, ever since we moved to the area about 8-9 years ago. In this time there has only ever been one staff-related problem. But after addressing it with the head doctor, the professionalism displayed only further reassured me of how top-notch this place is.Our pets have never been scared or unhappy coming here - the staff spoils them ridiculously! They have seen our dog and cats through many stages of life, and have helped with many ailments (having only owned rescues, there have been plenty of ailments for them to figure out and deal with!). Sadly they had to be with us just a week ago when I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our cat Frankie down. While there was nothing easy about it, the staff at Bay Country was amazing. The straight-forward, yet outstanding bedside manner of Dr. Bauer; the compassionate, yet professional counsel from Dr. McLean; and the warm, comforting assurance of Dr. Smith who did the procedure, coupled with the vet tech, Amy, who was so helpful, understanding and comforting, and the receptionists, Victoria and Charlotte, who were such sweethearts that entire morning dealing with all my phone calls... I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to walk this hard road with.I appreciate this facility so much, and highly recommend them to everyone.

Having owned pets my whole life and lived in many different cities, I have been to my fair share of vets offices. This one really takes the cake. Bay Country Veterinary Hospital is one of (if not THE) best vets I have ever been to. I recently had my dog's first visit to the Crownsville location, which was also her annual check up. The prices were fair, and they even printed me a price list for her vaccines PRIOR to even seeing the doctor so I would know what I was in for. The ENTIRE staff takes the time to get to know your pet and dote on them. They all made sure my dog was comfortable prior to putting hands on her, and they let her stay with me and cuddle with me throughout the appointment, as she was fairly nervous. The day after her appointment I received a phone call from the office making sure I didn't have any questions, and letting me know what a pleasure it was to meet me and my dog. I also received a card in the mail with a gift certificate and a toy for my dog within a few days. I will continue to be a loyal supporter of this office!

Bay Country has been our veterinary clinic for many years. Our children now take their pets to Bay Country. The staff is sharp, attentive, kind and they KNOW our family and our pets. We never have to spend time bringing anyone 'up to speed' on what's going on with a particular pet. The doctors who have cared for our furry family are incredibly compassionate, but also firm about what we, as owners, need to do on behalf of our pets.....they gently hold our feet to the fire, as it were. Our pets are always their first priority.
We can't say enough good things about the care given to our pets and family at this practice!

We've been taking our dog here since our family adopted her almost two years ago. We originally saw Dr. Bauer, but now see Dr. McLean. They've both provided excellent care to our pup and we are grateful that this hospital is close by! I will note that we had to see a different vet for a last-minute appointment, and they weren't nearly as good with our dog as Dr. Bauer and Dr. McLean are. We actually had to cut the appointment short because our dog was so terrified and the vet/tech weren't able to calm her down. We rescheduled with Dr. McLean, who was incredibly patient and worked with our dog to calm her down (it turns out that wrapping her in a baby blanket so she can't see what's happening makes the visit much easier for our dog). Another time I had questions about our pup's medications, and Dr. Bauer gave me a detailed explanation over the phone. An added plus - they're always very flexible about rescheduling appointments. I definitely recommend this hospital for dog owners.

I love the staff at BCVH. The vets and nurses as well as the office staff make our pets and family feel comfortable by explaining what they are doing and the purpose of all charges. Our 3 pets (2 cats and 1 dog) are so happy and healthy. I especially appreciate the laser therapy our 13.5 year old shiba inu has been receiving for her arthritis. She had stopped running up and down the stairs of our townhouse and now she is jumping and playing like a puppy again AS WELL AS running up and down the stairs again. They have helped our cats behavioral issues also. I cannot recommend them strongly enough.

I couldn't put zero stars so I'll settle for one. We just has a baby which caused my bird to act out in a plucking temper tantrum. I called the vet and explained that he was now starting to bleed. They did a ton of tests (of which they did not explain to my husband was not included in the exam) only to tell us exactly what I told them "he's just acting out". They gave no suggestions about the bleeding (Which was my only concern) and told him to look online for suggestions for stressed birds (which is what I was doing, last resort call a vet is what it said).
What made it worse was that they called the police on my husband because he was nodding off in the waiting room.Embarrassingly enough, he had to explain in front of our ten year old son that he starts work at 4am and was extremely worn out at this 7:30 pm visit (hence the giant mug of coffee). He only came out this late so that I wouldn't have to bring a nursing baby out in the cold to a vet, and so our kids wouldn't have to worry about a bleeding bird hopping through the house. I plan on starting a pet boarding and dog walking service in the near future, this will NOT be the vet that I will partner with. It's a shame since I am looking for a good vet to help with our exotic pets.

Overall, I am really, really happy with this vet. I like most of the doctors (particularly Dr Dearie), but the people who really make the experience for me and my dog are the techs (at the Admiral Drive location especially). Last time I was there, my dog was sick and didn't want anyone to mess with his ears. The tech was so loving and gentle with him and even sang him a song.I can always find a convenient appointment time and barely wait at all to be seen. It isn't the most glamorous location for an office, but it works for me!

Bay Country Veterinary Hospital is the best and most caring place around to take your loved pet. The doctors are amazing, the nurses are as well. They are all knowledgeable and thorough. They do business like the way it used to be. They care about you and your pet after you leave and will follow up with a phone call to see how everyone is doing. I have been going there for about 15 years and have had three different furry children there. They all give them the best care and treat them with love. Being military and an animal lover, I have been to many vets. Bay Country Vets are at the top of the list for professionalism, loving, compassionate, and knowledgeable vets, ease of getting appointments, and incredibly short wait times. I have never waited longer than 5-7 minutes in the lobby and maybe 5 minutes in the exam room.Every vet we have seen, Dr. Bauer, Dr. McLean, and Dr. Smith, have been excellent.Our dog Joe has congestive heart failure, hypothyroid, and growths on his liver. When Dr. McLean and I discussed options, I felt like my concerns were heard and validated and the decision about his care was a joint effort. I cannot recommend Bay Country Vets highly enough.

The level of care at this facility is good, but I agree with the experience reported by others, in that our bills are *significantly* higher than when Dr. Hall was operating out of this location. It's also not unusual for us to be peppered with recommendations on miscellaneous tests. We love our pets, but don't have unlimited funds to pay for costly non-essential testing and services. We take our pets to Bay Country when necessary, but unless the high cost of their pet care comes down, we'll have little choice but to seek alternatives.

Bay Country is, in my opinion, an excellent place to take your pet. Dr. Bauer and his staff are warm and friendly, yet professional and efficient. They are able to strike that balance between providing top-notch pet health care and extending a kind, understanding warmth in their practice. My Betsy was a patient there for many years, the last several of them with kidney disease. From her first visit there until her last, she was given the very best, and kindest, care by everyone and I cannot express my gratitude enough to these fine people. When Dr. Bauer helped her pass over, it was done with incredible tenderness and compassion. I will never forget the wonderful folks at Bay Country, and I will hold them in my heart, always.

I think the entire staff love them as much as we do. It is comforting to have such confidence in the doctors caring for our pups, to know they always have their best interest at heart. Some of the staff is ok, but they could be a little too sappy/fake. Then they did sneak charges on my bill that were not clearly explained or exactly truthful. For instance they showed me a $400 or so cost for shots for my dog; I explained that I did not want to pay this at the time and to only give the most important shots. Next thing I know, I am checking out and BAM they stuck me with an extra shot that I did not agree too. They also told me that charges for a poop test were included and that I only had to bring the poop, but that was a lie and I was charged.
Then as I was about to walk out of the door, they literately RUSHED one more test and the tech would not tell me the results as she ran past me and whispered something to the Vet. Now I need heart worm meds. The poor girl ringing me up was nervous and almost babbling about how expensive pets were as she hit me with the total, BAM, $500 and change. I just paid knowing I would NEVER return, especially since they had already hit me with the BIG missed appointment fee. They hit me hard on the Heart Worm meds too and I felt violated to see how inexpensive it is to just buy it on Amazon.
My wife was very upset and called them right away and canceled all future appointments.

I found this vet a few months ago. The staff is friendly and the Doctors and Techs seem to be very well educated. I really enjoy visiting here cause they are personable with my pets (family) and have far pricing. Which is helpful to me due to having 5 pets! They have never done anything with my pets without my knowledge, and have always been up front with costs. A Huge plus is that they accept the Care Credit which is a great thing to have when you have some many fur kids.They only thing that could use is a little up dating, but they are clean and keep up the place as much as they can without getting a full remodel.

When our beloved 14-year-old dog passed away at a kennel while we were on vacation, Dr. Bauer consoled my wife and me and handled our end-of-life arrangements with compassion that clearly came straight from his heart. He and his staff respected and made allowances for the differences in the ways my wife and I mourn, and they were very patient with us. For that, I am very grateful. That it has taken several weeks for me to gather the strength to write this review should be interpreted as no reflection of the strength of my sincerity in writing it.It's been a very traumatic time for us. Without the generous, compassionate care of Dr. Bauer and his staff, our loss would have been even more painful. This compassion is what separates an adequate veterinary practice from an exemplary one.

I'm not sure what has happened over the past year.. this place used to be decent, a little pricey, but convenient. My last two visits have left me out over $800-- $400 and some change for my healthy dog's annual checkup and vaccines (uh, yeah, no.) They even de-wormed my dog, without checking to see if he has worms (he doesn't) and charged me a pretty penny for it. When my beagle was having some stomach issues (due to stress, he doesn't handle change-- our moving apartments-- very well), we ended up paying over $400 for the lady vet to try to sell us some shitty "special diet" (science diet corn sh*t) and tell my husband that she needed to run complete bloodwork on our dog because "i would hate for it to be kidney failure"... If you want to be ripped off, bring your dog here. Never again. I'm going to drive the 45 minutes back to Washington, D.C. to our lovely former vet at Dupont Veterinary Clinic. Don't waste your money or time.

I took my senior dog here for an emergency visit after she was very badly attacked by another dog. The whole experience was very stressful. Fortunately though the entire staff treated me and my dog with true compassion. It is obvious they care. They even stayed open for me on a Sunday when I discovered my dog had developed some complications. They called me after each visit to check on her progress and when I came back to the clinic, I was instantly recognized. I was also provided photos for documentation upon request. I have docked one star because apparently someone left a bit of surgical tube in my dog when it was supposed to have been removed completely. I would recommend this practice.
