I bring all three of my cats to Fredercik Cat Vet and I absolutely love this office. They are friendly and informative so I am always in the loop regarding any treatment my furbabies may need. The atmosphere is obviously cat friendly, but I notice that even my grumpy kitty seems less tense and settles down quickly when she has to go to appointments. They are always upfront about costs and offer payment plans if needed. I also like that they use appointment reminders and are quick to respond to email. My cats are part of my family and I am very particular about their care so it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to their needs. We only go here and have for years because we want people that genuinely share our concern for our cats. We have had 7 cats that have been treated here over the years. They always have referred us to other quality specialists for specific health problems (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, root canal and capping a broken fang, etc.) they could not address in house. I also like that this is a cat specific place. Other places had failed to diagnose a simple issue (irritable bowel syndrome) with one of our cats that they quickly diagnosed and prescribed treatment (prednisone). One of the staff will be visiting us at home today to send on one of our poor boys; he's in late stage congestive heart failure. He never liked leaving the house. Read Less

I used this vet probably 2 years ago for my kitten...I've been meaning to write this review for a while. While they are friendly and have an awesome atmosphere for cats I never came back. They were too expensive, there are plenty of local vets who give just as great care. The lady that examined my cat (who I picked up as a stray) had filthy ears which I left dirty in case he has mites so the vet could check. She told me she would clean them, I said ok thinking it was part of the exam. She failed to mention that she was going to charge me $30 to do so while not entirely cleaning them. I went to another vet who didn't charge me anything extra to do that (I had to follow up with them to handle the mite issue). I also groom dogs/cats so I could have done it myself and actually gotten it COMPLETELY clean. Sorry but $30 for ear cleaning is rape. So if money means nothing to you and you like paying more than you need I recommend you go here. Read Less

Much loved by our family, Dr. Karg has given superior care to two of my cats. The first one, Honey, lived to past 20 years with asthma, and Seamus, our current cat, was 3 years when we moved to Richmond, VA 6 months go. I love this vet. My cat has had cancer for over a year and we have been to four vets for her. Finally, I found someone who really understands cats. It makes a huge difference. My cat was immediately more comfortable at the office and  was allowed to walk around in the exam room. The owner, Dr. Karg, was the first vet to be really upfront with me about what is going on with my cat's illness. He was completely honest about what to expect and had approaches that were more cat friendly, like a shot instead of pills... In case you've ever had to pill your cat, omg. When our cat had a seizure, we called here first. They told us about the emergency pet clinic and told us to call them right away. We did that and as we were getting ready to go take her over, the vet's office called back (even though it was after hours) to make sure we had things sorted out. Hands down the best of the best! Truly amazing folks! Wouldn't even think of going anywhere else. The staff genuinely cares. They remember my baby and treat him as if he were their own. Best vet I've ever seen. Just moved across the country with 3 cats. Upon arrival, one was in obvious pain, and they rescheduled me for an appointment the next morning. Received extensive and personal attention/care, and went home with typed notes for each cat. The next day they called to ask how our little guy was doing. I have been taking both of my cats to Frederick Cat Vet for the last two years. Dr. Wolkind has gone above and beyond after my one kitty was diagnosed with a very rare cancer last year. He is now considered cancer-free but has had his fare share of other issues (i.e., bladder stones, allergies, diabetes, arthritis/neuropathy) since then. She has consulted various specialists throughout the country regarding all of his ailments and has been very receptive to any suggestions I may have. At one point, I thought we were on speed dial with one another. And, even though my kitty may be on his 7th of 9 lives, he's still a happy kitty. Much of that is due to Dr. Wolkind.Read Less

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Karg. He is compassionate about cats and his job. He will treat you and your cat with dignity and respect. He was even able to making euthanising my older, sick cat a calm and peaceful experience. You will not find a better vet for your cat! His prices are reasonable and he will never push services on you that are not necessary. Not sure what you can afford vs. what is most important? Just ask. Tell him your situation and he will help you to decide the best route to take for your, your pet, and your wallet! Word of advice however. Dr. Wollkind (the other vet in the office) will order unnecessary tests and make you feel bad if you say you can't. I would recommend requesting Dr. Karg for every visit.Read Less

The only vet I trust in Frederick! Dr. Karg is the only vet that took the time to listen to my concerns about my cat when she was desperately sick. He was kind, gentle, and had impeccable bedside manner, with both me and my Trudy. Brenda and Sam are wonderful and handled Trudy as if she was their own. When I dropped Trudy off for surgery, Brenda and Sam made sure I knew she was in good hands. They let me see where she would be staying, let me put her in her cage, gave me a tour of the back and showed me the surgical room where she would be treated, and most importantly, let me say good-bye to her without being rushed out the door. The staff and doctor are very kind and informative. They take time to answer all your questions. This vet only takes cats, so your cat will not be scared by dogs in the office, barking, etc. It's a very calm, comforting place for both cats and their owners. They welcome you to check out the kennaling space for overnight stays, where every cage has a window! They also have a small shop with food, toys, etc. I highly recommend Frederick Cat Vet! I've moved an hour away, but it's worth the drive to continue taking my cats to this excellent vet! Read Less
