Frederick, Maryland
General Info
Welcome to Glade Valley Animal Hospital. Our practice has been dedicated to serving the communities of Walkersville, Frederick and the surrounding area with quality veterinary medicine and surgery since 1948. We offer comprehensive veterinary care including modern diagnostics, therapeutics, grooming, and surgery performed in our spacious new hospital opened in 1998. We are proud of our professional staff and the loving and caring support they provide. Our veterinarians and staff are committed to staying current through yearly continuing education opportunities. We also offer a wide range of board certified referrals if specialized care is required. Through the years the practice of veterinary medicine in general and at Glade Valley Animal Hospital in particular has changed dramatically. Through this transition we have sought to continue our tradition of treating people and their pets with compassion and respect like we'd wish to be treated ourselves. We love animals and consider it a privilege to take care of your pets.

Just left without seeing the vet, unless you count the two seconds when he came into the waiting area to tell an older gentleman to turn down his scanner (which was so quiet that I didn't even realize he had one on). All of us in the waiting room looked at each other like "huh??".Let me back up and start with my First experience here: last year I got my kitten spayed here. When I came to pick her up in the afternoon the receptionist was rude and grumpy. I chalked it up to an end-of-a-rough-day mood. The next time I came in was to have my 13year-old dog (my love) put to sleep. I sat with her on the floor and put her head in my lap to try to keep her calm while I talked to her. The vet came into the room, didn't even Acknowledge me with an introduction or a simple hello. He interacted Only with the tech (who was nice). He pulled my dog's body toward himself instead of just coming a teeny bit closer to us. Then he just injected her! No warning, no explanation of how the procedure was going to happen. In my experience as a vet tech in CA many years ago, we first tranquilized the animals and Then injected the euthanasia cocktail, so the animal's last experience was not one of pain and terror. I pulled my dog's head back onto my lap and stared into her eyes while the life went out of her. I was bawling my eyes out. The vet simply got up and left the room. Never Said A Single Word To Me. I should've never gone back again. But I saw so many good reviews on here so I thought maybe That vet was just a substitute or something since I never did get his name. But today...I had a 5:30 appointment for my highly excitable dog. I asked for the last appointment of the day so we wouldn't have to encounter any other animals Or people. Earlier today I got a call from Taylor saying they'd had a few cancellations and that I could come in at 4 or 4:30. I explained the whole Crazy Dog thing to her again and she said 4:30 there wouldn't be anyone else there because the patient before then was only getting shots. I showed up at 4:30 and the waiting room had FOUR people in it and TWO animals. The receptionist was the same Awful, Rude, Grumpy woman who was there last year. She informed me that the vet was with a patient and there were two more ahead of me. I tried keeping my dog calm. That lasted about five minutes. When the vet came out to scold the man with the scanner and I realized it Was the same uncaring guy who put my old dog down, I got up and left. I became a vet tech because I love animals. I have no idea why these people are in business. Read Less

I have been a customer through the life span of two dogs--for 27 years, so I have seen a lot of what goes on there.  My old dog has well outlived her litter brothers only because Dr. Kellogg saved her life when she had pancreatitis when she was 10-ish.  The office has always hired awesome, caring staff.  It probably helps to be a regular customer.  The staff seem attached to animals that they come to know.  I once met Dr. Kellogg's mom, and found out that he grew up in an animal loving family.  Horses and dogs, for starters.  The worst thing about this clinic is it is difficult to find at first.  But otherwise, it is a great location for dog walks along Carroll Creek and easy to get to once you figure it out.  The prices are good.   Bloodwork is much more than for a human but Rx and services are very reasonable. The front desk and tech staff was very helpful, but the vet. seemed very rude and unhelpful. They offer a great spay & neuter program through the Humane Society, $35 for a spay (This doesnt include medicine or a cone). My kitten was very aggravated by the stitches and continued to try and pull them out. We kept her in her cone just shy of a week. When we took her cone of she still wanted mess with the stitches, but not as bad. Naturally, she would be curious and like the wounded area occassionally, but not enough to warrant wearing the cone again. We took her back to the vet today and when the tech called us back I asked the gentleman (presumably the vet, since he never introduced himself.) which room I should go to. He answered that I should come to his room. I explained that she was aggravated by the stitches and we kept her in the cone for quite a long time IMO. The vet never replied or turned to face me. As the vet took the stitches out, he commented that she had been pulling at some. I clarifyied that she had the first day. He ignored the comment and continued working. After he finished, I asked if there was any othe upkeep for her spay, again with his back turned he replied "No, but when are you going to get her shots." Surprised by his reaction, I told him she had all her shots and they should have the records. He then replied that they did. I would rate the front desk staff, especially the morning girl and the tech staff five stars. But, I found the vet unfriendly, a bad listener, and curt. That is my reasoning for the 3 star rating.
