Most unprofessional veterinary clinic I've ever been to. Tries to focus on their reception manners but completely lackluster. The woman who may be the wife of the doctor is hostile, rude and is costing the doctor more potential clients. Not to praise his diagnosis whatsoever; I once brought in my dog for a tick not knowing it was an infestation. He charged me $80 for removing a "scab" I removed the tick home and still brought my dog to the vet out of fear. He scraped at the skin took 80 & sent me and my dog home. I am kissing my dog goodnight at around 11 pm and I notice three ticks. THREE! How do you take my dog to a different room, away from me, for said "diagnosis" and not find more ticks? Ticks are huge, you cannot miss them if you look through the fur unlike fleas. Thank you, never again. Read Less

Never take your animals to this vet. His wife is money hungry and turned my dog away because I didn't have funds. They wanted to do a x-ray and lyme test. Did not have money for none of the services. Yet all the puppies from the litter go to the same vet. You would think if someone referred all off the offsprings owners to go to that vet that I would get more compassion then that. I've been there in the past to pay a balance and the vets wife has taken the money and put in her pocket. When the vet came out he asked about balance. I said we just paid wife at the counter. He then in turn takes money from her possession. This is all about money for the vets wife. The bad thing is he wants to help but she seems to call the shots. Not good look for him. Read Less

Would 100% recommend NOT taking your pet here. HUGE RIP-OFF. Have never been to a more outrageously priced vet that was so blatantly trying to get the most money out of our visit as possible. They will try to keep your pet overnight for procedures that do not require overnight stays, and the prices of procedures are beyond insane. A procedure that our dog had gone through at our previous vet cost us around $550, this vet wrote us an estimate of close to $900!!!! And that was without the cost of the multiple night overnights stays added on! When questioned about the overnight stays the vet responded with “it isn’t entirely necessary.” Extremely dissapointed with this practice. Read Less

I have been using this veterinarian for three years now. We've needed everything from basic shots shots to fixing adopted kittens and treating them for fleas. I've seen other reviews say that they think the doctor is a scam artist of some kind, but he's always been upfront with us about options, costs, and benefits. There has never been any pressure to go with the more expensive procedure, and he's always been supportive by making sure we get whatever we needed when we went with cheaper or DIY yourself options. His advice is top notch. He's always been honest and knowledgeable, giving us good advice and explaining why certain animals behave in certain ways when they have certain illnesses. He's also not afraid to say when he doesn't know, which makes us trust his diagnoses more. If I had an animal that I loved dearly and wanted to see get better I would absolutely go to this vet. Wonderful first visit with my 7 month old Pomeranian puppy. Dr.V walked me through everything I should know about young puppies. His staff provided me with a complimentary supply of her first month of heart worm pill and pamphlets about other suggested vaccines. I felt no pressure about getting the other vaccines. Dr. V suggested I read online/pamphlets about extra vaccines and then call back if I made a decision to get the extra ones. I look forward to having Dr.V seeing my puppy as she grows into adult! Dr. V and his staff are wonderful. I have been using him for preventative/routine care for my furry son, Bryce, for the last 1.5 years since we moved here. This past Monday my dog took a turn for the worst. He immediately had me bring him in and Bryce spent the day there under going tests and receiving meds and fluids. We discovered he was very sick and it was time to let him go. We took him home that night and the next day the doctor came over to perform an at home euthanasia. The minute he came over and walked in the room, as sick and in pain as Bryce was, he perked up and wagged his tail for the doctor. THAT is a sign that you have a great vet. He was caring and compassionate the entire time we've worked with him and going through that experience you don't want the wrong person doing it. I wouldn't have picked anyone else. Read Less

If Google allowed you to give negative stars, it would definitely apply in this case. In other words, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. Key issues that I have with Dr. Petros' practice: 1. Bedside manner 2. Multiple, inaccurate prognoses 3. Pricing I'm not sure if this practice has changed over the years, but I was very disappointed in the services provided to myself and my pet yesterday and today. As soon as I brought the pet in, he said that she may have heart failure. This changed to hardened larynx and to tracheal collapse within just a few hours. I understand that they are pets, but instead of blurting out to clients the first thing that comes to mind, it might be a good idea to assess the situation first. Additionally, he said there was nothing else that could be done for my dog, and tried to talk me out of going elsewhere for a second opinion. The hospital actually has a different prognosis for my dog. Perhaps Dr. Petros should have said that there was nothing else that *he* could do for my pet, and that a hospital with more equipment would be a great option. Not only did he have a fatalistic mindset, but he also would not admit that he did not have the equipment needed to accurately determine the prognosis. Lastly, for 12 hours of Dr. Petros' services, I was charged almost $3,000. The estimate that was provided initially was around $1,300, with the same estimate for low and high cost. I think that it was quite misleading. In the end, I would not recommend his services, especially if you are looking for an accurate prognosis of your pet and another answer other than that you have to euthanize. Read Less

My fiancé and I brought in our 2.5 year old kitty after hours for emergency treatment. She had been dry heaving for 2 days and then her breathing became labored- after speaking with the clinic we decided it was best to have her checked out immediately. We had a very short wait before seeing the veterinarian. He gave her a once over and decided xrays were needed. Long story short, she was having an asthma attack. The veterinarian wanted to keep her overnight but we were not able to afford the would be fees for hospitalization without significant financial strain. I am also a sufferer of asthma and know the dangers and the calm environment needed to get an attack under control. Our kitty does not like strange environments or unknown animals and I was concerned that being there overnight would further agitate her symptoms as well. We were not made to feel like bad pet parents for expressing our concerns and he worked with us to provide a treatment plan that took care of our kitty's needs and our budget. He repeatedly stressed that if she worsened or we felt like she needed anything to call him regardless of the time of night. He told me the warning signs to look out for, gave her several injections, and gave me medication to administer at home. Within an hour of returning home, her breathing was back to normal and we comfortable with our decision and the knowledge that we had a back-up option readily available. The next morning the veterinarian called to check on her status and answered my questions about follow up treatment and steps to avoid it in the future. I appreciated that he did not use scare tactics that many vets use to administer services or make us feel bad for being normal people with a budget. We moved to the area a few months ago and had not found a permanent veterinarian we both liked but that search is over now. We will definitely be using him in the future for both of our cats' regular and emergency appointments. Read Less

After finding a new vet, I am kicking myself for not finding a new vet earlier. I kept trying to give the vet one more chance, one more chance and I don't know a single visit where I was satisfied. First off, the vet tried to upend my carrier and shake my cat out of it. My cat who already hates the vet. My cat had several medical issues, which I was not briefed on before I got her from them, despite the fact that she'd had them prior to me adopting. Both times I had to have her stay over night with them, she was miserable, the area where she was kept was incredibly loud, the IV/wrapping she had made her foot swell painfully and more. To top it all off, every single medical issue I brought her in for (3-4 times in less than a year), he had no idea what was wrong with her. Which meant I had to pay for tons of tests, some of which she didn't need, and he would have known that if he'd run them in sequence (also, I noticed I get charged for more things when my husband goes in, as he knows nothing about vet stuff and I do). Heck, I was the one who figured out what her stomach issue was. To top it all off, I asked to take my cat home after many days of 'oh we're waiting for xyz' and he gave me false information. First off, he didn't run her test until it was so late in the day I couldn't get a second opinion from anywhere else. Second, he told me if I took her home and she had x issue, she would die, which sounded weird to me (as I used to do vet tech stuff), but hey, he's the vet. Took my concerns to my friend who is a vet and she told me (even looked it up in the manual thing) that he was full of it, that she would have been fine and she didn't know where he'd gotten that information from. So me being coerced into her staying another night (after which I refused to let her stay anymore, because he still had no idea what was going on) cost me a ton. Over $2000 and no answers. I'd understand, it's not always easy to figure things out with cats, but since I had never gotten a real diagnoses out of him, I was ticked at the cost and how miserable she was. I didn't give it a 1 star, because he was available nearly 24/7. And he would occasionally not charge for running something again. I felt too guilty to leave since we got her there, but I just couldn't stay. There was one really nice female vet tech. I liked her.Read Less

My beloved Schnoodle fell ill unexpectedly over a holiday weekend. We were devastated to learn of a possible blockage and had to leave him at the hospital for a few days. The doctor never pressured us on what action to take and was sensitive to the fact that we were concerned about the cost of the vet bills, including possible surgery. He explained everything in detail and was very patient and kind. In fact, every staff member was very sympathetic and helpful. No one ever made me feel badly for calling to check on my Fur Baby. When we came to pick him up, my dog was so happy and felt completely at ease with the staff. Normally, he is stressed and unsettled when he has to stay in a strange place over night. Thankfully, he did not require surgery but, if it would have been necessary, we would have been completely confident leaving him in the doctor's capable hands. We have since switched all of our "kids" to this practice. They are amazing and make us feel very valued.Read Less

Many are excellent, but I've chosen Dr. Petros as my own personal vet for my dogs and cats because I've found him to be extremely compassionate and caring. His practice is more than a business. I actually witnessed him kiss a sick kitty goodbye that he'd been treating for a neurology issue before he had to euthanize it at 11 p.m., he awaited my arrival. That said it all. The man works incredible hours watching over those that are sick. Friends that I've referred him to feel the same way, we all speak about his compassion and caring. I started bringing my pets (dog - Monty and cat - Maxwell) soon after we moved to Montgomery Village last year.  I was very impressed with Dr. Petros and felt my pets were in good hands.  Maxwell has a number of health issues, and Dr. Petros diagnosed a solution to his allergies that none of his previous vets had considered.  Recently, I had to learn the hard way that Dr. Petros is the best vet I've ever had the good fortune to meet.  Monty ingested a large tube of steroid cream (darn dog!) which could be deadly when ingested.  I immediately took Monty to Dr. Petros (this was 9:00 p.m. at night and he was still at the clinic) and he told me Monty needed to stay overnight to run fluids through him, and that the risk was to his gastrointestinal system.  Dr. Petros did not push me to a specialty hospital -- he stayed overnight with Monty himself.  Monty started showing bloody stools and it was a race to provide him with fluids and stomach-coating medications to save him.  I asked a staff member if Monty was giving them even a little tail wag, but no -- too sick even for that.  Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Petros kept Monty at his clinic, and he and his staff provided Monty with essentially 24/7 care.  After 4 nights, he turned the corner and was released (with more medications to administer than I thought a doggie could digest!).  He is now all tail wags and perky ears.  (He licked at the place his IV went into his leg until it was raw so now the poor buddy is in a cone and feeling very pathetic).  I have never written a review for a vet before, but I was compelled to do so this time as I could not possible recommend Dr. Petros enough.  He stays open until 10:00 p.m., he makes himself available on call 24/7, and is just obviously committed to his patients. When I told him I didn't have the words necessary to thank him for Monty's care, he just said simply, that was why he was a vet.  His passion and commitment are without match. Read Less

I have had pets of all kinds for over 37 years now.  Have been actively involved in their care for 27+ years.  This is the first veterinarian I have ever even thought about reviewing.  Dr. Petros is a complete professional.  I don't care if you pamper your pet, or if you are a sort of negligent pet owner like me.  You and your pet will be treated fairly at this vet.  They are often open to 10pm, and probably 24 hours in emergency.  I am so glad I picked this office for my miniature schnauzer.  I have only been there 2 times, but it has been 2 times in less than 2 months.  First for many vaccinations, 2nd for a recent eye infection.  Never was pressured to spend money, just given the facts, and given professional care.  I can't recommend this excellent person enough.  You will not be disappointed in the care you receive here.  Please trust in this vet, as long as I live within an hour or 2 from montgomery village, I will bring my dog here. My bird was sick, on the weekend and at night. I was worried about who would be open. I brought my cockatiel here, and met a new, very caring vet. Dr. Petros advised me that he was not a bird expert, but that he would see what he could do. I appreciated his honesty. During the course of our consult he was patient, explaining topics in layman's terms, and answering my numerous questions. His manner was gentle and caring. He was very gentle with the patient. I would recommend this vet. Not sure of the full spelling of his name; on the receipt it says Petros Voskerchiai. [He speaks English fine in case anyone is concerned on that point.] Read Less

I started taking our 2 dogs and one cat to Dr. Pedro's almost as soon as they opened.  I have a skittish female Jack that I was worried about and she was very relaxed with Dr. Petros and his staff.   They are wonderful with all of  the animals - in fact when I take the other dog, a Jack puppy - he willingly runs up to the door to go in which is one of the highest recomenations you can have.  Dr.Petros makes himself available 24 hours a day if necessary.  He almost always has puppies or kittens from the shelter that he has taken care of pro bono and keeps them so more people will see them and hopefully adopt one of them.  They all seem to be adopted by the next time I pass by.  Dr. Petros is one of those people that I call an animal whisperer.  If you choose him to treat your pets you will be glad you did. I must say, for as long as I've had cats (and it's a long time) I have found your Veterinary Center the most caring, sincere, flexible, and able to be there for us whenever we needed.MVVC is without a doubt the best I have ever had, and their help for our cat Bob, the best we could have ever hoped.Bob (our Cat) started bleeding badly at about one  1AM on a Saturday night. Our Vet did not have night hours (to be honest, they did not have weekend hours either) I searched the web, and I found you. I called. I was soon speaking to Dr. Voskerchian. He says , I'll meet you in 20 mins. All I could think was wow. They performed surgery, and watched him for several days to make sure he was OK. When we took him home, he was much happier, and his coat was silky smooth.Bob is no longer with us now, and I now live in Virginia, but If I were to ever have another pet, I would without hesitation be traveling back to Gaithersburg so its betting the best care possible.PatrickArlington Va(formally Gaithersburg Md) Read Less

I love love love this vet. I took my Dog here directly after taking his to banfield. (read my review over there) and discovered that veterinarians don't always have to lie! I walked in with my dog and waited about 20 minutes to see the vet. The first thing he did when he walked in was acknowledge myself and my animal and greet us warmly. I told him what was going on, a lump on his side, and he shaved off all the hair and poked it with a needle (what i told banfield to do) to see if any puss came out. It did and we were on for surgery. My dog had surgery the same day and was sent home the same day. This vet is kind, gentle and understanding and I will be referring him to all my friends. THANK YOU!

I'm a cat rescuer and have dealt with most area vets in the past 25 years. His wife, Alex, has become a good friend...she's often seen at the front desk. I clearly welcome folks to try Dr. Petros as their veterinarian. Posey Fox Read Less

My dog recent started limping late in the evening. When we examined his paws, we could see that they were very inflamed. I called the doctor at 10:30pm and he not only answered immediately, he told us to bring Junior in immediately. Dr V met us within a half hour and diagnosed and treated the problem which were blisters on 3 of Junior's feet. The treatment included minor surgery which was performed immediately. As I said to the doctor that night, I wish I could find an MD that is available for emergencies at midnight. Not only that, the price for the services were reasonable unlike what you frequently find at emergency 24 veterinary clinics. Dr V is the best. This is the second time I had to contact him after hours and he always is ready to help his patients. Read Less

My pup had an accident in our backyard and injured her leg rather badly on a Sunday afternoon.  I frantically called our vet - and got an answering machine.  I found this vet through Google and they're open all the time so I took her in.  Despite never having been there and them not knowing me they accepted her right away and kept me VERY well informed on what was going on with her.  Dr. Petros really seems to care about the animals he's working with and the nurses (are they considered nurses?) and receptionist were all very friendly. My overall experience was thus: they kept me well informed on everything happening with my dog, and while my other vet was closed, this vet was there when I needed them to be.  I would give more than 5 stars if I could.

THANK YOU!
