Jarrettsville Veterinary Center turned what was already an upsetting and stressful situation, even worse. Yesterday evening my Yorkie, Boomer, decided to stray from our yard with his brother, Buster.... and Boomer got lost. After hours of driving around, giving out my cell to local neighbors and posting on Facebook about our lost dog, we finally got reassurance that our dog was found by someone and taken to Jarrettsville Vet Center. I immediately called, and they were closed. I left a message, with his name and his description, and let them know I would be there as soon as they opened. We were so relieved that he was found and not wondering around at night alone, scared and cold. My 3 daughters were so excited that he had been found and they stayed up last night to make a thank you card to give to the vet office. My problem is how I was treated upon arrival to pick up Boomer. I was not greeted when I walked in, so I greeted them and explained who I was and that I left a message and my yorkie's name is Boomer and he has a green collar... and I was stared at like I had 3 heads. She did not want to communicate that dog was there and she dryly said "let me check". She turned and walked to the back. Rude. Then another lady chimed in and said "you have ID?". Oh, Stupid me! I guess I am naive, and didn't think that other person would actually show up to claim MY dog. It's not like this happens everyday, and I should know the protocol. The manager came out and explained that they had to identify us as the pet owner. Ok, I understand but I don't have papers on hand , I would have to go dig for it because everything is in boxes because we are moving. I then asked if we could just call our vet office for the records. I told her that it had been a while since they were there. She said yes, they would call. She called, then came back and said they verified our records, but they haven't been seen for a while, so we will have to call animal control so they can verify ownership. I asked how will they do that with the same records that you have? She replied " I don't know". This whole time I am left feeling like everyone thinks I am some crazy person just showing up at 8am to claim someone else's dog. I UNDERSTAND that you have a policy... but did you have to treat me like My family didn't matter or this wasn't already a delicate situation, maybe show some compassion? They said the reason they would call our vet clinic was because they would have our information and the description of the dog. You got that from my vet, but because we hadn't been there in 4 years, apparently that was a problem? Animal control showed up and talked to them. Then came and asked me about the situation. I told her that they verified with my vet but that we hadn't been there in a while so that was a problem. Animal control said "ok, let me see what they (Jarrettsville vet) wants to do, either release him or I will have to transport him to humane society and you will have to pick him up there." Jarrettsville Vet chose to have animal control transport Boomer to the humane society, which didn't open for another 3 hours (meanwhile I have 3 anxious children that can't wait to see their dog). We went to the humane society when it opened, they called our vet, verified our records and gave us our Boomer back! My husband left a google review and the owner said that we should have had correct documentation and updated records, or this wouldn't have happened. Or that we should be grateful they took care of him and didn't charge us... well, had your staff not been so rude and upsetting, you would have had an adorable hand made thank you card from my kids to display on your wall. Had you treated me with a little respect and compassion, you would have gotten a sincere thank you from me as well. I'm sure we're judged as bad pet owners or something because our dog got away and that we didn't have update vet records, because that's exactly how they acted. We surely will make a vet visit, as time got away from me. People should also go the dentist once every six months, but a lot of people don't and then are surprised when 6 months turns into 2-3 years. Oh yes, it happens! But hey, who's judging? Not me! As a dental practice manager- let's just figure out what we can do to help get you back on track! Then educate on the importance, not shame the person. That's caring customer service. I also, as a manager, I would never leave the premises while a situation such as this was occurring like the manager of this place did. Or would NEVER call the police because an upset husband called iterate because his family can't get their dog back, and lie to say he is threatening. He said he would call a lawyer... really people? Anyway, thankfully it is all over now and we have our Boomer back! He is happy too to be back with his brother and family, and looking forward to eating some of his homemade treats being made for him right now! Read Less
