a.p.a.w. Veterinary Hospital and Wellness Center is a full service, privately owned veterinary hospital specializing in the care of dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and pocket pets.
Our newly renovated facility is conveniently located at 7601 Good Luck Rd in Lanham, Maryland and has been serving Prince George's County and the surrounding metro area for over thirty-five years.
Formerly known as New Carrollton Veterinary Hospital, A.P.A.W. is privately owned and operated by Dr.Patricia Peynado Boyce and Dr. Lizel Salmon who purchased the practice in 1998. Since then A.P.A.W. has grown to be recognized as a progressive veterinary center with a warm, caring, and highly skilled healthcare team that is trusted by the local and veterinary communities. A.P.A.W.’s veterinary team approaches each client and patient with compassion, warmth, and personalized attention. We continuously strive to be a source of veterinary information for our clients and the community at large.

I brought my new rescue puppy in for a wellness appointment. The staff immediately met with me and then asked to hold Broadway. They played with him and complimented his good looks. He was then allowed in their area to interact with them freely. They told me this is so he will learn not to be fearful when he comes to the doctor's office - how nice! Dr. Boyce was extremely knowledgeable and shared a lot of information with me about the immunizations my dog would be receiving and about his growth and care.Overall, I was very pleased with my first visit to A-PAW and will definitely refer friends and family.

On going training and careful attention to detail ensure that our dog and cat receive exactly what we pay for. I have seen specialists and emergency vets at various times for our family members issues and I can tell you this is very good place for all of your pets basic needs and you receive full cooperation when you need to get specialty care.

I am thoroughly impressed with this establishment. It was clean, smelled nice, had ample space for the animals. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and didn't appear annoyed or impatient with our questions or ignorance. Everything was explained to us in detail and we were offered many opportunities to ask questions. I've found my permanent Vet for Coconut!!

Dr. Johnson and her staff are Awesome! I took my Dog in for a sick appointment which I was able to schedule for the next day, that was great considering I was a new client. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, my dog isn't to dog friendly and they were able to accommodate me so she wouldn't have to sit in a waiting room with other dogs. Dr. Johnson was amazing, very professional, and patient working with my dog who ended up needing surgery. The staff called me a few days later just to make sure she was doing ok after surgery, she went back 2 weeks later for a suture removal and again staff was great I was in and out quickly and they just asked me to email a picture in a week to make sure the incision was healing well. I was very please how thorough Dr. Johnson was and will continue with my dogs routine care with her, I feel she's in good hands with her. I can't thank her enough for saving my dogs life. They are a bit expensive BUT so are most vets in the area, totally worth it when you get the care they provide.

5+++. They are great! About a year ago my older cat went into some kind of coma and I took him to A.P.A.W first thing in the morning. I went inside panicking one of the employees informed me they didn’t have a vet in, I think this was over the weekend. She did ask questions and went and filled some gloves with warm water to keep him warm until we could get to another vet. So now a year later I had my cat spayed and a week later she was still acting abnormal. I made an appointment at A.P.A.W.. I was met with the same kindness. I feel like they went above and beyond, sent us home with things to help her feel better. It worked! not only did it work but the vet called me Sunday to ask me how my cat was doing. I was pleasantly surprised that the vet took the time out of her weekend to call to make sure that my cat was feeling better

My fiancee and I have been bringing our little Jodi here for years and the staff has always been improving. Some changes have been made since we started visiting, but they've been for the better. Dr. Boyce is currently the primary vet for our dog, and I've never been more satisfied. She is very thorough, attentive, gentle, and understands that Jodi is family. We will continue bringing Jodi, as well as our future fluffy babies to A-PAW.

I have mixed feelings about this place. When I could get Dr. Boyce's attention, she was caring, thorough, and explained everything very well. She even worked with me when my cat's treatment got very expensive. But I've always waited at least 30-45 minutes to see the vet even when I've had an appointment, and if you need a call or email back you can expect a very long wait.

I've been taking my pets to APAW since it was called New Carrollton veterinary clinic. In the last 17 years, they have expanded and remodeled. It's a lovely facility. If you need prescription food, they will generally have it or will order it for you, at cost. The staff are absolutely fantastic. The doctors are amazing (shout out to Dr Boyce!) They treat your pets as if they were their own. My cat developed a blood clot and ultimately, we had to let her go. The staff cried with me and gave us lots of support. I even received a beautiful condolence card signed by all of the staff, with my cat's paw print. Truly a loving place. As far as prices, they are competitive with all the chains and other local vet clinics. Honestly, I'll be with APAW forever.

She always ensures she checks on my Yorkie, I also want to thank Dr. Boyce who is equally as awesome and exceptionally as knowledgeable. My family has been going to this vet for over 20 years, and I continue to take my dog here due to the high level of care we receive. Is it expensive? Yes, but so is most veterinary care, especially in the DC area--and a pet owner shouldn't expect that owning an animal will be cheap. However, I've found that their wellness plan (where you pay a fixed amount every month) has helped me budget for visits and vaccinations without the 'excitement' of being handed a bill at every appointment. On the Wellness Plan, most of the time I walk out paying nothing, or for medications only.The doctors have always been very compassionate and helpful, often going out of their way to say hi to me and my pet (even if we're just stopping in for a routine vaccination or treat). Keep up the great work, A-PAW!

You never feel rushed w/ the Doctors & they genuinely care about your pets well being. I would like to especially highlight Dr. Tannis Johnson who has serviced my Shorkie (Shi Tzu/Yorkie mix) Quincy for several years. She's extremely patient &.you can tell she loves what she does. Everyone on staff is professional and kind. I wouldn't trust Quincy's health & wellness needs with any other Vet. Kudos to A.P.A.W. You guys rock!

We just moved into the area and saw this place near by and decided to check it out for our 5 year old Golden. We had a great experience at A Paw and will definitely continue to take our furry friends there. Everything was very clean and the Vet and Techs were so nice and knowledgeable. This trip was an expensive one because fuzzy need to get caught up on a lot of shots, but as always it is well worth it. The only minor complaint we have is we had to wait 10min after our appointment time to see the vet. As it was a Tuesday afternoon we weren't too surprised but really hope it doesn't ever get longer.

APAW was recommended to us when we moved here in Nov 2007. We went, and I liked the service we received. Everyone was friendly, and we were seen in a timely manner. However, I have run into trouble over and over when I have tried to fill my dogs prescriptions online. First, they refuse to fax the prescription, so when I placed an order online I had to physically go to the vet and pick up a written prescription. Then, when I tried to refill it, they said that my dog needed another ($50!) test before they would authorize the refill, even though she had the necessary test less than a year ago. Also, they require Bordetella vaccine every 6 months (which I have learned is excessive) but since they do not offer wellness/walk-in vaccines, you have to pay for a visit just to get the vaccine! My dogs vaccine schedule does not coincide with her annual exam, so that would mean paying for office visits 3x a year!

5+++. They are great! About a year ago my older cat went into some kind of coma and I took him to A.P.A.W first thing in the morning. I went inside panicking one of the employees informed me they didn’t have a vet in, I think this was over the weekend. She did ask questions and went and filled some gloves with warm water to keep him warm until we could get to another vet. So now a year later I had my cat spayed and a week later she was still acting abnormal. I made an appointment at A.P.A.W.. I was met with the same kindness. I feel like they went above and beyond, sent us home with things to help her feel better. It worked! not only did it work but the vet called me Sunday to ask me how my cat was doing. I was pleasantly surprised that the vet took the time out of her weekend to call to make sure that my cat was feeling better

My fiancee and I have been bringing our little Jodi here for years and the staff has always been improving. Some changes have been made since we started visiting, but they've been for the better. Dr. Boyce is currently the primary vet for our dog, and I've never been more satisfied. She is very thorough, attentive, gentle, and understands that Jodi is family. We will continue bringing Jodi, as well as our future fluffy babies to A-PAW.

I even got a paw print card with a heartfelt message from Dr Boyce. Now that I have a new Rottie it wasn't an option to go anywhere else. Now he's a loyal patient of Dr Boyce. Love them.

The staff at APAW are very professional and friendly. I did not wait long for my appointment. The staff here makes me feel very welcome and my chihuahua as well. You can feel the love that Dr Boyce has for what she does and all the pets. I highly recommend APAW!

I have mixed feelings about this place. When I could get Dr. Boyce's attention, she was caring, thorough, and explained everything very well. She even worked with me when my cat's treatment got very expensive. But I've always waited at least 30-45 minutes to see the vet even when I've had an appointment, and if you need a call or email back you can expect a very long wait.

I've been taking my pets to APAW since it was called New Carrollton veterinary clinic. In the last 17 years, they have expanded and remodeled. It's a lovely facility. If you need prescription food, they will generally have it or will order it for you, at cost. The staff are absolutely fantastic. The doctors are amazing (shout out to Dr Boyce!) They treat your pets as if they were their own. My cat developed a blood clot and ultimately, we had to let her go. The staff cried with me and gave us lots of support. I even received a beautiful condolence card signed by all of the staff, with my cat's paw print. Truly a loving place. As far as prices, they are competitive with all the chains and other local vet clinics. Honestly, I'll be with APAW forever.

She always ensures she checks on my Yorkie, I also want to thank Dr. Boyce who is equally as awesome and exceptionally as knowledgeable. I know my dog is getting older, and is getting sick because he is older. I love your excellent service and tender touch you give to my dog it means the world to me. My family has been going to this vet for over 20 years, and I continue to take my dog here due to the high level of care we receive. Is it expensive? Yes, but so is most veterinary care, especially in the DC area--and a pet owner shouldn't expect that owning an animal will be cheap. However, I've found that their wellness plan (where you pay a fixed amount every month) has helped me budget for visits and vaccinations without the 'excitement' of being handed a bill at every appointment. On the Wellness Plan, most of the time I walk out paying nothing, or for medications only.The doctors have always been very compassionate and helpful, often going out of their way to say hi to me and my pet (even if we're just stopping in for a routine vaccination or treat). Keep up the great work, A-PAW!

When We call A.P.A.W. to ask for information. We just moved to Lanham, MD. The worker was very rude and give us ugly attitude that they won't accept our new patient or discuss with us. I wish they could make suggest us that we can find a place for our dog. They were very rude and yell at us. I wish they could tell us in nice way and letting us know that they could not accept anymore new patient. I have recommend other my friends to not stop by or drop off at this place.

A.P.A.W. Is the best Veterinary Hospital & Wellness Center in the DMV. Friendly & knowledgeable staff who have no problems addressing your concerns. You never feel rushed w/ the Doctors & they genuinely care about your pets well being. I would like to especially highlight Dr. Tannis Johnson who has serviced my Shorkie (Shi Tzu/Yorkie mix) Quincy for several years. She's extremely patient &.you can tell she loves what she does. Everyone on staff is professional and kind. I wouldn't trust Quincy's health & wellness needs with any other Vet. Kudos to A.P.A.W. You guys rock!

We just moved into the area and saw this place near by and decided to check it out for our 5 year old Golden. We had a great experience at A Paw and will definitely continue to take our furry friends there. Everything was very clean and the Vet and Techs were so nice and knowledgeable. This trip was an expensive one because fuzzy need to get caught up on a lot of shots, but as always it is well worth it. The only minor complaint we have is we had to wait 10min after our appointment time to see the vet. As it was a Tuesday afternoon we weren't too surprised but really hope it doesn't ever get longer.

APAW was recommended to us when we moved here in Nov 2007. We went, and I liked the service we received. Everyone was friendly, and we were seen in a timely manner. However, I have run into trouble over and over when I have tried to fill my dogs prescriptions online. First, they refuse to fax the prescription, so when I placed an order online I had to physically go to the vet and pick up a written prescription. Then, when I tried to refill it, they said that my dog needed another ($50!) test before they would authorize the refill, even though she had the necessary test less than a year ago. Also, they require Bordetella vaccine every 6 months (which I have learned is excessive) but since they do not offer wellness/walk-in vaccines, you have to pay for a visit just to get the vaccine! My dogs vaccine schedule does not coincide with her annual exam, so that would mean paying for office visits 3x a year!
