We love this place. Here's why--- We just got a boxer puppy and I looked for a vet online for awhile. We went to another vet further away that was ok. The office didn't seem clean and the techs and vet seemed to clash there (Lynn Animal). That said I decided to try Lakeside! The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and Dr. Rhody is kind and compassionate. Our pup loves him and we really rely on his expertise. He doesn't try to "sell you things" but did recommended a great training camp! We're so happy!

My wife and I went through a tragic, horrifying experience, concerning our beloved family pet bunny Sparky. He was a Netherland Dwarf around 2 pounds with beautiful markings. We took Sparky to Lakeside Veterinary Center on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 4:32PM, to be checked out for a runny eye and to check his mouth and throat. Dr. Rhody examined him and gave him eyedrops and antibiotic. He went to get the nurse who he said would show us how to administer the medicine. My wife and I and two nurses were present at the time. One of the nurses wrapped Sparky in a towel very tightly and said so he wouldn't hurt them or himself and pressed down on him like a sandwich. Sparky started squealing so loud and long, it was HORRIFIC! AND FRIGHTENING! and TOTAL SHOCK! AS IF HE WAS BEING PUT TO DEATH!! One of the nurses called Dr. Rhody , saying it was an emergency and told him to please come now. The nurse hands over our beloved Sparky to Dr. Rhody who unwraps him, and Sparky was traumatized, delirious and in pain. He was trying to walk but his back legs were dragging, while we looked on in disbelief and sadness. Dr. Rhody took Sparky to give him an X-ray. He returned and showed us the results. He said it didn't look too good, that there were a couple of breaks, and his spinal cord was severely damaged. He said we may want to think about putting him to sleep. This was so devastating and heartbreaking, knowing that nothing like this was wrong with him when we entered there. We had taken a picture of him at 6:21AM that morning not knowing that this would befall on our dear Sparky this way. And to add insult to the injury and horror, no one apologized or showed deep remorse at that time. The same nurse charged us $90.00, when were checking out making us feel like we paid that money to have his back broken and spinal cord damaged. We continued to care for Sparky in his condition, and went to the appointment set for the following week. We asked Dr. Rhody would there be no charge and work with us because we knew even though they didn't admit to it, we weren't responsible nor was Sparky for his tragedy. He said he would each visit until his death on Monday May 27,2019 at 11:15AM. It ruined our holiday. We miss him terribly and he was very smart and affectionate. Sparky didn't deserve to go out like this. WE LOVE YOU SPARKY!!! We will always remember how you tried to console us by taking turns coming to each of us laying your head on our laps on the bed in your condition because you sensed we were upset. GOD BLESS YOU SPARKY !!!!!

My dog needed some attention (an eye issue) and I called Lakeside based on the reviews online. Sadly, they only have one vet that works there and their schedule is pretty booked weeks on out. I had the chance to squeeze in the next day for a brief visit, that would have cost over $100 just to get in the door.So I never went, so I cannot comment on the care, only that if they are that busy, perhaps I can take my pets and my money to some place that can see me before two weeks from Tuesday.

We discovered Lakeside Vets in 1990, soon after we'd moved to Laurel and one of our cats had something stuck in her throat. We were happy with Dr. Rhody then, and have been loyal customers ever since....
We discovered Lakeside Vets in 1990, soon after we'd moved to Laurel and one of our cats had something stuck in her throat. We were happy with Dr. Rhody then, and have been loyal customers ever since. Dr. Rhody is experienced, an excellent doctor, and quite personable. He's been with us through three "sets" of cats, working with us to keep them healthy, and being there for us when the end was obvious. He is very caring and compassionate, both with our cats and with us. We stuck with him when we moved to Silver Spring, driving ~45 minutes for visits. Now that we're in College Park, we still drive up to Laurel to see him, and will do so as long as he's in practice. The staff has always been great to deal with too; I cannot recommend Lakeside Vets any higher - if there were a sixth star, they'd get it.

Prompted to look for a new vet when it became apparent that our previous vet was uncomfortable around large rescues, we felt we hit the jackpot with Lakeside Veterinary Center in Laurel. This single-doctor practice headed by Dr. Rhody loves rescues of all shapes and sizes; and Dr. Rhody and his staff, just as importantly, are understanding when beloved canine and feline family members show anxiety and make "successful visits" difficult. We have found our vet for the foreseeable future.

Dr. Rhody and all of his staff are amazing. They've helped my angry old cat learn to tolerate going to the vet. My cat has even PURRED when Dr. Rhody gave him a physical exam! Everyone there truly knows how to care for both pets and owners. They are very knowledgeable and thorough with explaining what's going on and what needs to happen next. The real reason I'm giving Lakeside 5 stars is because of how they care about the owners. My cat had to come to the vet every week at one point. He's okay now, but that month became very expensive. Dr. Rhody was nice enough to waive my payment until I received my next paycheck. I have never written a Yelp review before but that just touched me so much that I felt like I had to.

I've used this office for both my Lizard and my Parrot. They are the most welcoming, kind group of people I have ever encountered at an officec may it be Dr, Dentist, Vet etc. Last week my 4 year old and I had to put our parrot down. The compassion and kindness that this group of people showed was more than I could've ever dreamed of. Especially with such a little guy having to deal with his first real loss. Yesterday we received a card in the mail with personal messages from the staff. I am blown away. This meant so much to my family I am so grateful to know that I have a Vet that is so amazing for the future as well.

Secondly, never buy an exotic pet without talking with Lakeside first. We went to a Reptile show. My kid purchased a Blue Tegu after talking with the seller/breeder for a while. The guy that sold us this new family member did not provide good info. We took Lapis to the vet for a check . Boy, did we get an education. The expression on the Doc's face when we told him what the seller told us was priceless. No, you don't feed it dog food of any kind. Yes, it does eat small mice. (There goes the rule of No mammal eaters such as snakes in the house) No, you can't keep it in a 75 gallon tank when fully grown. Yes, while being one of the smallish breeds of Tegus, it does grow extremely large. Lapis is still with us and doing extremely well with all the great info we got from Lakeside.

When I first got my greyhound I attended Lakeside Vet center under the recommendation of my adoption group. After several visits, I got the impression Dr. Rhody was doing unnessesary things to my dog so he could bill me more money, often times putting my dog under stress unnecessarily.
As a follow up to the response from the owner, as I was recently writing the review for my current vet and how happy I am with their service, I couldn't help but remember my negative experiences at lakeside. Since my experiences were consistently negative over the course of several visits I thought it pertinent to write a review despite the fact that I stopped going there in 2014.

I have been taking my Papillon to the Lakeside Veterinary Center since she was 10 weeks old. Almost two years later after spaying, shots and knee problems, I love everything about this practice! The front desk staff greet my dog like she is the only pet they've seen all week by giving her lots of petting and treats while they ohh and ahh over her. The waiting area is a misnomer since there is no wait and it is not the stereotypical room packed with animals and pet parents. The real reason I take my girl here is the fact that Dr Rhody is technically thorough and obviously loves his job. He gets on the floor to examine her and is generous with his petting. His care during and after her spaying ensured a pain free experience with no complications. My girl is excited to go to the vet because of her great experiences here!

I came to this practice seeking a second opinion for my dog that had stopped eating. I had gone to the Pet ER in Columbia and had a horrible experience. Not only was I was able to get an appointment quickly, Dr. Rhody personally answered my questions via email before I had even scheduled the appointment. To say my dog has never enjoyed going to the vet would be an understatement. He has always had a "caution" on his chart because he becomes aggressive when he is scared. When we first arrived we had a short wait. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They came around and greeted my dog and offered him water. We hadn't experienced that kind of warm reception at other practices.As for Dr. Rhody himself...he was pretty amazing. I had my dog for twelve years and we moved a few times so we had been to a few different practices throughout our time together. At each visit at every other practice we had been to the doctor always had a tech in the room and Caesar (my dog) had to be muzzled immediately. This was not the case at Lakeside. Dr. Rhody came in to the exam room alone and did not require that Caesar be muzzled. He was gentle and warm with Caesar. In fact, Caesar was eating treats that the doctor offered him (during a time when he wasn't eating much at all) and I cannot recall a time when my dog seemed less stressed at a vet appointment. Eventually I did muzzle Caesar because as Dr. Rhody got down to eye level and pulled out the stethoscope my dog seemed to be growing more nervous but his time in the muzzle was minimal. It turned out that we were looking for a needle in a haystack with my Caesar's condition. He particular condition was very difficult to diagnose. Dr. Rhody referred us to another wonderful practice that has a radiologist on staff that could perform a more in depth ultrasound than what they were able to do there. The practice is a little old school in the sense that they are not digital. They still use film for X-rays. They aren't paperless. The office isn't slickly remodeled. But they are extremely kind and provide patients and their guardians with personal attention and concern. You and your pet aren't treated like a cash cow. Their fees are more than fair. That's what makes Lakeside special. I will be returning with my other pets in the future. I feel very fortunate to have Dr. Rhody and his wonderful staff on hand so close to our home.

Lakeside Veterinary is a great place! They were extremely helpful when my rabbit was sick. They even had me bring along my second rabbit for support since the two had never been apart. I felt extremely comfortable with my pets in their care. The entire staff was terrific and very caring. They gave me detailed instructions with take home meds -- plus they called to check up on my babies the next day and a few days later. I highly recommend.

My dogs are my babies, so what doctor they see is extremely important to me. Lakeside Veterinary Center is such a wonderful facility with the most caring staff! They treat my fur babies like important family members and seem to care about them as much as we do. I love the warm greeting we get the moment we walk in and the thorough care that is given to each one of my pups. Dr. Halapy was so happy to see my dogs that she was down on the floor with them in the room - that's my kind of lady. Dr. Rhody is so caring and very knowledgeable. When my sweet girl was sick and we didn't know what was wrong with her, he took such good care of her and got her back to health ASAP. Also, our big 110 lb boy can seem pretty intimidating when it's time to get his nails clipped (the one thing he hates), but the Lakeside Veterinary Center team managed to keep him calm and handle his pedicure with ease. I can't say enough about the wonderful staff here. To top it off, they encourage their patients to come in for happy visits, so they can get pet and loved, that way coming to the vets office isn't so scary! If you're looking for a WONDERFUL, CARING, CONSIDERATE, PASSIONATE vet, look no further! They are also one of the few places that will see almost any type of animal that can walk through their door. I'm very glad we found them!

Lakeside Veterinary Center took care of my guinea pig when we were informed by another vet that he had an enlarged heart. They handled him with care and were extremely sensitive. They also neutered my rabbit. They were able to see him right away and the surgery was done quickly. In both cases Dr. Rhody was our vet. He was always friendly and explained the procedures well. I highly recommend Lakeside Veterinary Center.

I have been to many vets over the years with my dogs, hedgehog and parrots. Today I had to take my parrot in for a checkup after she was exposed to self cleaning oven fumes and was showing symptoms of compromise. I spoke with Amelia on the phone. She was professional, courteous and very caring. I was given an appointment the same day. The vet, very competent Veterinarian, saw my parrot and prescribed what needed to be done without ordering a lot of tests that were not necessary. I have been to vets before that order all these tests, only to say, " I was going to treat this with blah, blah, anyway regardless of the outcome of the tests. Well, hello, why didn't you spare me the expense of all those tests when you knew what you were going to do anyway:). I was very pleased with ALL the staff there, unlike other veterinary offices I have been to. I would highly recommend them. I intend to take all my pets to them in the future. The veterinarian was compassionate and caring as all the staff were. Worth the trip from Columbia!!

I went here for my 16 year old tegu after a recommendation from a vet tech friend. I highly recommend Dr. Rhody to anyone in the area with a reptile. It's hard to find a well equipped and knowledgable vet prepared for lizards but I was able to get blood work, ultrasounds and medicine for my ailing elderly tegu, and the staff love him. The prices are very affordable for an exotic pet, which is always great when you have a pet that can't get pet insurance.

My husband and I have been taking our cat and rabbit to Dr. Rhody for the past two years. He is one of the few vets who cares for rabbits in the area and it's great to have someone who is so knowledgeable. Both of our pets hate traveling (even if it's just 5 minutes down the road), and we wouldn't have asked for better care when we arrived at the vet. Dr. Rhody is great at explaining everything and is very caring when handling our pets. I take my Great Dane, Mr Darcy here. This is the only vet my dog has ever gone to and I can honestly say I've never seen a dog that gets excited when I say it's time to go to the vet. He acts like I just told him we're going to the park or the pet store. Actually I think he gets more excited about going to the vet than anywhere else and since he's a puppy he's gotten shots every time. After they give him shots, they are so nice and gentle he turns around and gives them kisses that's how much he likes it there. I would prefer to move out of the Laurel area but if I did I would still make the drive to take Mr Darcy here. I think it has been such an important part of his puppyhood that he's only ever had awesome experiences at the vet's office :) If I could give these guys 10 stars I would but unfortunately it would only let me leave 5. High 5 to Dr Rhody and his staff. On another note I originally picked Dr Rhody because I was considering getting a rescue Great Dane that had some health issues and knew it wouldn't be covered after I got pet insurance. Even not being a current client/patient he still explained everything to me, what it meant, how much the treatments would be (roughly), etc and explained it so I would understand. He was so so so nice. He didn't make me make an appt or anything. They don't make people like this anymore. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford the health issues with the rescue and it broke my heart but I ended up with Mr Darcy who's my third child and such a fuzzy cuddly pony puppy.

It's so hard to find a good veterinarian. We love this place. We take our cocker spaniels here and they treat them so well. My hamster was acting really sick one evening and I called them. They said I could bring her right in, even though I didn't have an appointment and it was an emergency for a dwarf hamster. The place is clean and they are really good with our dogs. The assistants are all nice and the vet is, too.

We live in Baltimore, but we don't hesitate to take our rabbit to Dr. Rhody at Lakeside. The drive is worth it.Not all vets are versed in the special needs and care of rabbits--Dr. Rhody, however, is exceptional. He is very thorough and makes sure that you understand, as a rabbit owner, exactly what you need to do to keep your bunny healthy.Beyond his clinical expertise with rabbits, it is a delight to see him interacting with them. His love of these special creatures is obvious, and he has helped us become more confident and capable bunny "parents."

We love this place. Here's why--- We just got a boxer puppy and I looked for a vet online for awhile. We went to another vet further away that was ok. The office didn't seem clean and the techs and vet seemed to clash there (Lynn Animal). That said I decided to try Lakeside! The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and Dr. Rhody is kind and compassionate. Our pup loves him and we really rely on his expertise. He doesn't try to "sell you things" but did recommended a great training camp! We're so happy!

My wife and I went through a tragic, horrifying experience, concerning our beloved family pet bunny Sparky. He was a Netherland Dwarf around 2 pounds with beautiful markings. We took Sparky to Lakeside Veterinary Center on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 4:32PM, to be checked out for a runny eye and to check his mouth and throat. Dr. Rhody examined him and gave him eyedrops and antibiotic. He went to get the nurse who he said would show us how to administer the medicine. My wife and I and two nurses were present at the time. One of the nurses wrapped Sparky in a towel very tightly and said so he wouldn't hurt them or himself and pressed down on him like a sandwich. Sparky started squealing so loud and long, it was HORRIFIC! AND FRIGHTENING! and TOTAL SHOCK! AS IF HE WAS BEING PUT TO DEATH!! One of the nurses called Dr. Rhody , saying it was an emergency and told him to please come now. The nurse hands over our beloved Sparky to Dr. Rhody who unwraps him, and Sparky was traumatized, delirious and in pain. He was trying to walk but his back legs were dragging, while we looked on in disbelief and sadness. Dr. Rhody took Sparky to give him an X-ray. He returned and showed us the results. He said it didn't look too good, that there were a couple of breaks, and his spinal cord was severely damaged. He said we may want to think about putting him to sleep. This was so devastating and heartbreaking, knowing that nothing like this was wrong with him when we entered there. We had taken a picture of him at 6:21AM that morning not knowing that this would befall on our dear Sparky this way. And to add insult to the injury and horror, no one apologized or showed deep remorse at that time. The same nurse charged us $90.00, when were checking out making us feel like we paid that money to have his back broken and spinal cord damaged. We continued to care for Sparky in his condition, and went to the appointment set for the following week. We asked Dr. Rhody would there be no charge and work with us because we knew even though they didn't admit to it, we weren't responsible nor was Sparky for his tragedy. He said he would each visit until his death on Monday May 27,2019 at 11:15AM. It ruined our holiday. We miss him terribly and he was very smart and affectionate. Sparky didn't deserve to go out like this. WE LOVE YOU SPARKY!!! We will always remember how you tried to console us by taking turns coming to each of us laying your head on our laps on the bed in your condition because you sensed we were upset. GOD BLESS YOU SPARKY !!!!!

My dog needed some attention (an eye issue) and I called Lakeside based on the reviews online. Sadly, they only have one vet that works there and their schedule is pretty booked weeks on out. I had the chance to squeeze in the next day for a brief visit, that would have cost over $100 just to get in the door.So I never went, so I cannot comment on the care, only that if they are that busy, perhaps I can take my pets and my money to some place that can see me before two weeks from Tuesday.

We discovered Lakeside Vets in 1990, soon after we'd moved to Laurel and one of our cats had something stuck in her throat. We were happy with Dr. Rhody then, and have been loyal customers ever since....
We discovered Lakeside Vets in 1990, soon after we'd moved to Laurel and one of our cats had something stuck in her throat. We were happy with Dr. Rhody then, and have been loyal customers ever since. Dr. Rhody is experienced, an excellent doctor, and quite personable. He's been with us through three "sets" of cats, working with us to keep them healthy, and being there for us when the end was obvious. He is very caring and compassionate, both with our cats and with us. We stuck with him when we moved to Silver Spring, driving ~45 minutes for visits. Now that we're in College Park, we still drive up to Laurel to see him, and will do so as long as he's in practice. The staff has always been great to deal with too; I cannot recommend Lakeside Vets any higher - if there were a sixth star, they'd get it.

Prompted to look for a new vet when it became apparent that our previous vet was uncomfortable around large rescues, we felt we hit the jackpot with Lakeside Veterinary Center in Laurel. This single-doctor practice headed by Dr. Rhody loves rescues of all shapes and sizes; and Dr. Rhody and his staff, just as importantly, are understanding when beloved canine and feline family members show anxiety and make "successful visits" difficult. We have found our vet for the foreseeable future.

Dr. Rhody and all of his staff are amazing. They've helped my angry old cat learn to tolerate going to the vet. My cat has even PURRED when Dr. Rhody gave him a physical exam! Everyone there truly knows how to care for both pets and owners. They are very knowledgeable and thorough with explaining what's going on and what needs to happen next. The real reason I'm giving Lakeside 5 stars is because of how they care about the owners. My cat had to come to the vet every week at one point. He's okay now, but that month became very expensive. Dr. Rhody was nice enough to waive my payment until I received my next paycheck. I have never written a Yelp review before but that just touched me so much that I felt like I had to.

I've used this office for both my Lizard and my Parrot. They are the most welcoming, kind group of people I have ever encountered at an officec may it be Dr, Dentist, Vet etc. Last week my 4 year old and I had to put our parrot down. The compassion and kindness that this group of people showed was more than I could've ever dreamed of. Especially with such a little guy having to deal with his first real loss. Yesterday we received a card in the mail with personal messages from the staff. I am blown away. This meant so much to my family I am so grateful to know that I have a Vet that is so amazing for the future as well.

Secondly, never buy an exotic pet without talking with Lakeside first. We went to a Reptile show. My kid purchased a Blue Tegu after talking with the seller/breeder for a while. The guy that sold us this new family member did not provide good info. We took Lapis to the vet for a check . Boy, did we get an education. The expression on the Doc's face when we told him what the seller told us was priceless. No, you don't feed it dog food of any kind. Yes, it does eat small mice. (There goes the rule of No mammal eaters such as snakes in the house) No, you can't keep it in a 75 gallon tank when fully grown. Yes, while being one of the smallish breeds of Tegus, it does grow extremely large. Lapis is still with us and doing extremely well with all the great info we got from Lakeside.

When I first got my greyhound I attended Lakeside Vet center under the recommendation of my adoption group. After several visits, I got the impression Dr. Rhody was doing unnessesary things to my dog so he could bill me more money, often times putting my dog under stress unnecessarily.
As a follow up to the response from the owner, as I was recently writing the review for my current vet and how happy I am with their service, I couldn't help but remember my negative experiences at lakeside. Since my experiences were consistently negative over the course of several visits I thought it pertinent to write a review despite the fact that I stopped going there in 2014.

I have been taking my Papillon to the Lakeside Veterinary Center since she was 10 weeks old. Almost two years later after spaying, shots and knee problems, I love everything about this practice! The front desk staff greet my dog like she is the only pet they've seen all week by giving her lots of petting and treats while they ohh and ahh over her. The waiting area is a misnomer since there is no wait and it is not the stereotypical room packed with animals and pet parents. The real reason I take my girl here is the fact that Dr Rhody is technically thorough and obviously loves his job. He gets on the floor to examine her and is generous with his petting. His care during and after her spaying ensured a pain free experience with no complications. My girl is excited to go to the vet because of her great experiences here!

I came to this practice seeking a second opinion for my dog that had stopped eating. I had gone to the Pet ER in Columbia and had a horrible experience. Not only was I was able to get an appointment quickly, Dr. Rhody personally answered my questions via email before I had even scheduled the appointment. To say my dog has never enjoyed going to the vet would be an understatement. He has always had a "caution" on his chart because he becomes aggressive when he is scared. When we first arrived we had a short wait. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They came around and greeted my dog and offered him water. We hadn't experienced that kind of warm reception at other practices.As for Dr. Rhody himself...he was pretty amazing. I had my dog for twelve years and we moved a few times so we had been to a few different practices throughout our time together. At each visit at every other practice we had been to the doctor always had a tech in the room and Caesar (my dog) had to be muzzled immediately. This was not the case at Lakeside. Dr. Rhody came in to the exam room alone and did not require that Caesar be muzzled. He was gentle and warm with Caesar. In fact, Caesar was eating treats that the doctor offered him (during a time when he wasn't eating much at all) and I cannot recall a time when my dog seemed less stressed at a vet appointment. Eventually I did muzzle Caesar because as Dr. Rhody got down to eye level and pulled out the stethoscope my dog seemed to be growing more nervous but his time in the muzzle was minimal. It turned out that we were looking for a needle in a haystack with my Caesar's condition. He particular condition was very difficult to diagnose. Dr. Rhody referred us to another wonderful practice that has a radiologist on staff that could perform a more in depth ultrasound than what they were able to do there. The practice is a little old school in the sense that they are not digital. They still use film for X-rays. They aren't paperless. The office isn't slickly remodeled. But they are extremely kind and provide patients and their guardians with personal attention and concern. You and your pet aren't treated like a cash cow. Their fees are more than fair. That's what makes Lakeside special. I will be returning with my other pets in the future. I feel very fortunate to have Dr. Rhody and his wonderful staff on hand so close to our home.

Dr. Rhody is a caring and thorough exotic vet. He helped to successfully neuter my Siberian Chipmunk. My chippy recovered quickly from the surgery. Dr. Rhody also treats my Miniature Schnauzer. He always takes the time to answer all my questions at appointments. I especially appreciate him taking the time to answer all my questions via e-mail. I don't know any vets who answer e-mails on the same day except Dr. Rhody. He is a true professional.

Lakeside Veterinary is a great place! They were extremely helpful when my rabbit was sick. They even had me bring along my second rabbit for support since the two had never been apart. I felt extremely comfortable with my pets in their care. The entire staff was terrific and very caring. They gave me detailed instructions with take home meds -- plus they called to check up on my babies the next day and a few days later. I highly recommend.

My dogs are my babies, so what doctor they see is extremely important to me. Lakeside Veterinary Center is such a wonderful facility with the most caring staff! They treat my fur babies like important family members and seem to care about them as much as we do. I love the warm greeting we get the moment we walk in and the thorough care that is given to each one of my pups. Dr. Halapy was so happy to see my dogs that she was down on the floor with them in the room - that's my kind of lady. Dr. Rhody is so caring and very knowledgeable. When my sweet girl was sick and we didn't know what was wrong with her, he took such good care of her and got her back to health ASAP. Also, our big 110 lb boy can seem pretty intimidating when it's time to get his nails clipped (the one thing he hates), but the Lakeside Veterinary Center team managed to keep him calm and handle his pedicure with ease. I can't say enough about the wonderful staff here. To top it off, they encourage their patients to come in for happy visits, so they can get pet and loved, that way coming to the vets office isn't so scary! If you're looking for a WONDERFUL, CARING, CONSIDERATE, PASSIONATE vet, look no further! They are also one of the few places that will see almost any type of animal that can walk through their door. I'm very glad we found them!

Lakeside Veterinary Center took care of my guinea pig when we were informed by another vet that he had an enlarged heart. They handled him with care and were extremely sensitive. They also neutered my rabbit. They were able to see him right away and the surgery was done quickly. In both cases Dr. Rhody was our vet. He was always friendly and explained the procedures well. I highly recommend Lakeside Veterinary Center.

I had the pleasure of bringing my rat, "Sir Waffles" to Dr. Rhody. He was fantastic. I am a veterinary technician and my hospital does not treat rodents or exotics. It was recommended through a coworker to take my rat to Lakeside Veterinary Center when he was not well. He really had a way about him. Genuinely cared about my creature, his patient. It was something I will never forget.

If you have chinchillas, this is the vet for you. They're friendly, thorough, and know what they're talking about. If you have chinchillas or any kind of exotic I highly recommend them.

I have been to many vets over the years with my dogs, hedgehog and parrots. Today I had to take my parrot in for a checkup after she was exposed to self cleaning oven fumes and was showing symptoms of compromise. I spoke with Amelia on the phone. She was professional, courteous and very caring. I was given an appointment the same day. The vet, very competent Veterinarian, saw my parrot and prescribed what needed to be done without ordering a lot of tests that were not necessary. I have been to vets before that order all these tests, only to say, " I was going to treat this with blah, blah, anyway regardless of the outcome of the tests. Well, hello, why didn't you spare me the expense of all those tests when you knew what you were going to do anyway:). I was very pleased with ALL the staff there, unlike other veterinary offices I have been to. I would highly recommend them. I intend to take all my pets to them in the future. The veterinarian was compassionate and caring as all the staff were. Worth the trip from Columbia!!

I went here for my 16 year old tegu after a recommendation from a vet tech friend. I highly recommend Dr. Rhody to anyone in the area with a reptile. It's hard to find a well equipped and knowledgable vet prepared for lizards but I was able to get blood work, ultrasounds and medicine for my ailing elderly tegu, and the staff love him. The prices are very affordable for an exotic pet, which is always great when you have a pet that can't get pet insurance.

Best vet in Laurel! I love Lakeside Vet. Dr. Halapy is very friendly and personable. I knew right away she would take excellent care of my frenchie. She answered all of my questions, and didn't rush the exam. I'm so happy to have found Lakeside and definitely recommend them. The entire staff is very friendly and my frenchie loves all of the attention he gets there.

My husband and I have been taking our cat and rabbit to Dr. Rhody for the past two years. He is one of the few vets who cares for rabbits in the area and it's great to have someone who is so knowledgeable. Both of our pets hate traveling (even if it's just 5 minutes down the road), and we wouldn't have asked for better care when we arrived at the vet. Dr. Rhody is great at explaining everything and is very caring when handling our pets. When our cat was diagnosed with a heart murmur, he referred me to a great specialist in the area and continued with our basic care. If you're looking for a vet in the Laurel/College Park area, I would definitely recommend Lakeside.

I take my Great Dane, Mr Darcy here. This is the only vet my dog has ever gone to and I can honestly say I've never seen a dog that gets excited when I say it's time to go to the vet. He acts like I just told him we're going to the park or the pet store. Actually I think he gets more excited about going to the vet than anywhere else and since he's a puppy he's gotten shots every time. After they give him shots, they are so nice and gentle he turns around and gives them kisses that's how much he likes it there. I would prefer to move out of the Laurel area but if I did I would still make the drive to take Mr Darcy here. I think it has been such an important part of his puppyhood that he's only ever had awesome experiences at the vet's office :) If I could give these guys 10 stars I would but unfortunately it would only let me leave 5. High 5 to Dr Rhody and his staff. On another note I originally picked Dr Rhody because I was considering getting a rescue Great Dane that had some health issues and knew it wouldn't be covered after I got pet insurance. Even not being a current client/patient he still explained everything to me, what it meant, how much the treatments would be (roughly), etc and explained it so I would understand. He was so so so nice. He didn't make me make an appt or anything. They don't make people like this anymore. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford the health issues with the rescue and it broke my heart but I ended up with Mr Darcy who's my third child and such a fuzzy cuddly pony puppy.

It's so hard to find a good veterinarian. We love this place. We take our cocker spaniels here and they treat them so well. My hamster was acting really sick one evening and I called them. They said I could bring her right in, even though I didn't have an appointment and it was an emergency for a dwarf hamster. The place is clean and they are really good with our dogs. The assistants are all nice and the vet is, too.

The drive is worth it.Not all vets are versed in the special needs and care of rabbits--Dr. Rhody, however, is exceptional. He is very thorough and makes sure that you understand, as a rabbit owner, exactly what you need to do to keep your bunny healthy.Beyond his clinical expertise with rabbits, it is a delight to see him interacting with them. His love of these special creatures is obvious, and he has helped us become more confident and capable bunny "parents."
