I can't say enough great things about this place! The entire staff is extremely kind and caring. In the past year, Dr. Kirkendoll has treated my 15 year old cat for several issues- a slipped disc in her back, a lump removal, and stomach issues. She is an excellent diagnostician, and really knows how to care for animals and their human companions. Vets can be expensive, but their prices are really reasonable compared to other clinics in this area. I trust the doctors and staff so much that I board my cat with them whenever I go out of town (boarding rates are very reasonable) I wish I had found this clinic sooner! Read Less

She was afraid she'd have a 5 hour wait at her regular vet Friendship AH as she had on her last visit so I offered to call around and see where I could get him in that day. Hyattsville AH had some great Yelp reviews from long-time clients and offered me several appointment times and took us in right on time; the lady vet was very kind and thorough in her examination and explanations. The entire staff was just lovely, exactly the kind of people you want taking care of your pet. I cant say enough about Dr Dubois & Dr K.. I have been taking my pets to Dr Dubois for the last 15 yrs and will never go anywhere else if I can help it. My dog Bruiser was recently hit by a car & if it wasn't for them, I'm not sure what I would have done. The 24/7 emergency clinic wanted $1600 for an X-ray & one night stay plus a $3500 surgery to fix his wounds. I told them thx but no Thx, just bandage him up and I'll go see Dr Dubois in the morning instead. I left that place paying $630 for nothing more then a consultation & some meds/bandage.. The next morning Dr K tended to his wounds for much much less. $460 to be exact including X-rays, meds & bandaging plus a few other tests I'm sure. Never once have they displayed greediness and truly care for animals while realizing the average person can't afford thousands every time something happens to a pet. Especially when you have several animals. Last year it was my wife's cat who's mouth needed surgery after an attack of some sort. Other vets estimated $2500 and up. Dr K did it for about $900 including a couple weeks of quarantine & meds. This was just a couple of examples, but trust me they are the best in the DC/MD area! Deserved a 6th starRead Less

Dr. DuBois and his team have always been so kind and attentive to my cats. And they've gotten to the bottom of a couple tricky health problems and solved them successfully. I am grateful for the care. I have had to wait, yes, but I knew that he was treating an emergency and if I was in that situation, I'd want the same kind of attention. His staff thoroughly apologized and explained the situation (and I had seen the animal come in under emergency conditions). I found the prices to be better than other quality vets and his team always works with me to look for low cost options. Read Less

I probably don't even need to write my own review, since I think Anna T. hit the nail on the head. Putrid smell that will make you want to pull your sweater up over your nose to breathe when you walk in the door. People who work here are definitely a little on the kooky side. Prices seem comparable to other places. If you live in this area, I would recommend going to Lynn Animal Hospital instead. It's just on the other side of downtown Hyattsville. People are nicer and more helpful, and the place clearly gets cleaned more frequently. Read Less

My husband took our dog here without me once and told me about his hesitations and I thought he was maybe being a little superficial or judgmental. Since this vet was recommended to us we decided to return when our dog had a skin issue that was causing her trouble (but not an emergency). This place is so creepy. It smells so strongly of urine, chemicals and animals that it really takes you back a bit when you walk in the front door. The waiting room is decorated like an overly religious aunt's house from the 80s. I don't need fancy or new decor at my vet but I would like to feel like I am not sitting on a couch that has housed 200 cats. While we were waiting the front desk lady told multiple people on the phone they were booked and couldn't fit in any other animals that day but then accepted 2 appointments and let someone else have a walk-in appointment. We had a 9am appointment and weren't seen for 45 minutes and based on the lack of scheduling we saw happen before our eyes we have a pretty good idea why. The facilities are old (including rotting MDF in an old display in the lobby) and what supplies we saw did not seem clean (dusty ear inspection case). Everyone is very nice, and seems to try really hard at what they are doing, however, there doesn't seem to be a level of expertise or confidence in what they do. The doctor we saw was very timid, she changed her opinion 6 times in 3 minutes and contradicted herself every time. The staff that was there to "help" restrain our dog during the examination seemed like they had never interacted with animals other than petting them, and certainly did not have the skills to restrain a 50lb+ dog. My husband had to step in on many occasions because no one had control of the situation. I tried to wrap up the appointment as soon as possible because I wasn't going to be able to believe anything the doctor recommended after hearing her and seeing everyone interact with our dog. They also do not have many medications available to dispense on the premises. They either have to be picked up at a pharmacy or special ordered for you, which is completely inconvenient and not what I am used to. I couldn't get out of there soon enough and called another vet from the parking lot. Read Less

The people are pleasant but the place is dirty and expensive, and it takes forever. I've had dogs my entire life and I have never been in such a dirty vet clinic, nor have I ever been hit with a $200+ bill for what should have been a routine "yup, the dog is healthy" visit. Additionally, I made the appointment so that my dog could get a canine flu (required for boarding) and it turns out this place doesn't even offer canine flu shots. It would have been nice to know that in advance.Let me stress again: This place is DIRTY. Obviously they do not clean the exam rooms between patients. There is tons of fur against the walls, on the fabric-covered chairs in the exam room (who puts fabric covered chairs in a vet exam room?), and the exam table had visible grime on it. I would not go to a dirty doctor's office, so I don't want to take my dogs to a dirty vet. It's a shame, because there don't seem to be many quality vets in this area. I think I'm going to have to give up and drive to Anne Arundel County.Edited to add: The decor is very outdated. There's a lot of 1970's/early 1980's Jesus stuff everywhere, as if your 90 year old Catholic aunt was put in charge of decorating. I'm not a big fan of being confronted with religious paraphernalia at a place of business. Read Less

You can tell that he is very experienced in treating cats and dogs and does it because he loves it. He pulled my cat through an episode that I am not sure other vets would have been able to do. I recommend Dr. Dubois without reservation!Just to let you know what kind of person he is, he has several cages in the back where he cares for and treats cats with medical problems that their owners found inconvenient. The cats were mostly slated for euthanization and Dr. Dubois has taken on their care rather than euthanizing them. He also is caring for a couple of strays and cats who were dumped on his doorstep. I had recently fostered a kitten from the City of Greenbelt and my aunt fell in love with the foster. She decided to adopt her and was so happy to have the kitty in her life. My aunt was planning to go out of town and had made reservations to board at my boarding/grooming facility. The morning she checked in, the kitty was not doing so good and since she could not change her plans she asked me to take care of her. Princess Diana had symptoms of vomiting/diarrhea , she was lethargic and very dehydrated. I took her to Hyattsville Animal Hospital since they are located a few doors down from my shop and had previously used them for vaccines for my own pets. Dr. Dubois worked on her and made it his priority to help her. He followed up with her the following day and gave his recommendations along with prescription medication. Since she still wasn't feeling well and they were going to be closed that Sunday and Monday, he gave me his cell phone in case there was an emergency. I have been a veterinary technician for 7 years, but don't pretend to be a doctor. I followed his instructions and by Monday morning she was eating solid food. His office followed up with me on Tuesday morning, which was a good feeling to know they cared just as much as I did for the kitty's health. My aunt will be picking her up in a few days and I will be giving her back a completely healthy kitten. In addition, I was surprised to know that I could stay in my aunts budget for treatment without compromising what was best for Princess Dianna's care. Thanks Dr. Dubois and staff!! Read Less

Some of these other reviewers seem to worry more about the ambiance/ smell of the place then the actual care given. Granted it's not cutting edge with ultra modern decor, but it's a Vets office. I don't care about all of that. Id prefer not be charged extra for the buildings upgrades. As for the service & price, I cant say enough about Dr Dubois & Dr K.. My dog Bruiser was recently hit by a car & if it wasn't for them, I'm not sure what I would have done. I called Dr Dubois on his cell phone at 10pm and he answered. He instructed me to apply pressure to the gaping wound and go to the emergency vet asap since he was closed. So I did.

Read Less

Dr Dubois is an outstanding vet. Not only is he an animal lover, which is evident in his interaction with his patients, he also has worked to encourage and groomed a new generation of veterinarians by acting as a teacher and mentor to budding these vets. The other doctors, some of which are currently working with him, also share his love and concern for their patients. The follow - up is outstanding and I am confident that my dogs are being well cared for.He is not cheap but his prices are competitive. If you are on a budget let him know and he will work with you on getting figuring out how to do what is best and affordable for you and your pet. Read Less

I took my cat to this hospital her entire life, and our overall experience was wonderful. Each visit, the entire staff was respectful and compassionate, and many formed relationships with my cat. When she became chronically ill they were financially flexible, and helped us understand everything that was going on, and helped us come up with the best care plan we could for her. Dr. Dubois is very kind and knowledgeable, and always took time to talk to us. This kind of interaction with the patients families is very important and while sometimes it means appointments run late, I was always fine with waiting, knowing that other people weren't just being rushed out the door. I would happily bring other pets here in the future. Read Less

A very good doctor but, never on time for appointements. Bring your pet t in for certain shots and he gives more than the shots. Its always a surprise bill when he finish. You never know how much your going to pay at the end of the visit. Dr Dubois is a good vet but he is getting too costly. I never been charge for a needle before for taking blood. Also, keep up with your shot records. hearworm test is once a yrear well my dog had 2 this year with no worms. My dogs was there for 2 shots, he got a fectal and heartworm test that wasn't needed at this time. Did not know until it was time to pay. The bill was so high...I really think he has two price lists. We have been going to Dr. Dubois for a few years now after having a really bad experience with a vets office just down the street from Dr. Dubois. He is kind and wonderful with the animals. He's just an amazing human being in addition to being a wonderful, knowlegeable vet. Read Less

My family has been taking our dogs and cats to Dr. Dubois for ten years now, he's great. As another review says, you can tell he truly loves animals and this makes all the difference. Also, it's nice that it's a small practice. We have to take our other species to another larger practice that has a very corporate feel to it. It's fine, but just not the same as getting the personal attention that is available at Hyattsville Animal Hospital. Read Less

Read Less

When desperately needing a place to board my pooch for a last min out of town, I found Hyattsville Animal Hospital. Granted, with no reviews, and no one I knew in the area that had boarded their pets here, I was a bit scared. It's a hard thing leaving your kid with strangers! =) Luckily the staff at Hyattsville Animal Hospital were friendly and completely professional. My pup was due for 1 set of shots anyway, so they not only boarded him, but gave him an exam and shots. Plus side, they are very affordable, charging only $20 bucks a night for my little Min Pin. All in all a great place to take your pet with a friendly atmosphere that both you and your pet will enjoy! Read Less
