On top of great quality everyday veterinarian care we've had two situations where once we rushed our dog to the pet er since it was after hours and Northwind made sure to call us the next morning asking if we needed any follow up care free of charge since they felt so bad they were closed! Second, when we lost our one puppy Northwind sent us a card expressing their condolences. I wish I didn't have to visit Northwind Animal Hospital. I recently had to choose to euthanize my 17 year old dog. I was a complete wreck when I arrived, because this in fact was one of the worst moments of my life. We met with Dr. Sarah Repsher, who informed us that our Lady had a heart murmur and potentially fluid in her lungs. We knew we couldn't let her suffer. In the saddest moment of Lady's life with us, Dr. Repsher was so kind, patient, and understanding. She helped us say goodbye to our sweet girl in the most peaceful of ways. We received a card from Northwind in the days following our loss. We received her memorial package the following week. Like I said, I wish I didn't have to go to this hospital, but I am glad that I found support when I arrived. I'd give these guys 10 stars if I could. I brought them a 15 year old cat who was wasting away that 2 others vets couldn't diagnose. They worked really hard to figure out what was wrong in just a few visits and at a very reasonable price. They found a medication that costs. $10 a month and has been very effective for him. A year later he has gained weight and is happy and healthy!I drive 45 minutes from the city to get to Northwind but I wouldn't consider another vet. Their prices are also lower than any vet I've been too, and they don't overtreat your pet. They worked very hard to help my cat, and they gave more time with my best little friend. They are AWESOME!! I will never take any of my pets here again. We just lost our beloved Cockapoo of 11 years in part to the "phone-it-in" medical check-up by the vets. One would think a normal procedure for any medical check-up would be to listen to the animal's heart, and take his temperature. Neither was done when I took my dog in for a check of his walking problem. The vet automatically supposed a neurological issue or said it could be old age with disc issues. When I asked about x-rays, he said a neurological issue would not show up on x-rays. He was given pain meds and sent home. When he had another bout with the same issue a few days ago, I took him back to see another vet at the same practice, and she quickly examined his legs, had him walk for her, and said it was probably the same issue. I even said he was breathing strangely the night before. She said it could be anxiety. She gave him more of the same meds as before and sent us home. I called the next day to express the fact that he threw up during the night, and something was not right. It could not be just a leg issue. She said to give the dog another dose of meds, but this time with food. The bottle did not say to give with food. Later that morning, he was not looking well at all. I called again and they said to take him to the hospital. I did. He had a temperature of 105, a heart murmur, and a mass that showed up on the x-ray of his abdomen. He was immediately taken in as a patient. With an ultra sound, it showed that he had a tumor that ruptured. Peritonitis had developed, and the vet was unsure if the tumor could even be removed safely. She advised putting him down due to all the issues. However, no issue with the back showed up at all. He was walking strangely due to the pain he was experiencing in his abdomen. If the tumor was caught before it ruptured, it would have given him a fighting chance. Had Northwind done a better job, Bailey may just be here today. Read Less

I took my 15 year old cat to Dr D expecting her to recommend euthanasia after another vet could not figure out why he was rapidly losing weight. She was able to help me intervene when he stopped eating without bringing him in for another visit, was able to diagnose the problem the other vet was unable to pinpoint, and was able to put him on an inexpensive medication that saved his life. She gave me more time with a beloved family member. I drive 45 min out from the city because I know Northwind knows their stuff. In addition, they have very reasonable prices. Read Less

I wouldn't trust anyone else to take care of my fur babies other than Northwind animal hospital. This place does not only have the best customer service I've ever experienced, but their prices are beyond reasonable. I once had to get an estimate for my rescue to get 9 total teeth extracted from his previous owner's lack of care for his hygiene and whereas other places quoted me an average of close to $1000, Northwind graciously performed the procedure for well under $500! Apart from the incredible pricing, their employees are all very compassionate and even sent me card with a handwritten message from each individual staff person when I had to finally put my poor fur baby down several years later. I had been going to a vet for 20 years more or less out of habit. The waiting room was dated, the furniture was torn, prices increased and the wait was horrible. I began to get disgusted. When I read some bad reviews by people I knew, about animals that were being put down inhumanely, but owners were still being charged for it I'd had enough. We have only been taking our pets here for a short time, but they have been absolutely fantastic treating our dog that had cancer. Dr. Triplet has always been available to answer questions and the vet techs have all been so kind and always showered her with love. They did everything possible for Zoe, and when the time came to have her put to sleep this past weekend we could not have asked for a kinder staff. Zoe never cared for the vet, but she didn't seem to be as anxious going to this vet. She never seemed to be stereotyped as a 'pitbull' she was just Zoe. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone. Everyone at Northwind Animal Hospital is amazing. When you call or walk in the door all the ladies greet you so nice and are very helpful. They greet all the pets that come in and their owners. When any of the techs come out each animal is greeted the best way to make them happy. The doctors do amazing work and patiently explain everything to you. No rushing you and your pet through an appointment here. The ladies at the desk review everything and make sure all your questions are answered before you pay for the appointment. I have always had great experiences with Northwind Animal Hospital. My pets and myself have always been treated with a great deal of love, support and care. I want to give an extra shout out to them. I highly recommend to everyone. They saw my cat yesterday, who was seen in a highly over rated Animal ER and all these tests with outrageous bills were done. I finally pulled my cat and called Northwind and they told me to drop her off and they would assess her. She was seen and I was told she had some GI discomfort and I brought her home. The staff here are amazing. We've been to other vets and had some issues, for example at a different vet when they were giving our puppy a vaccine the doctor was doing it by himself without help which resulted in my pup getting away from him when the needle went in and then having the needle stuck in our pup's neck while running away, crying the worst I've ever heard him and resulting in complications which lead us to the emergency room. Here at Northwind they always have had two people with our pup for injections and my pup has yet to cry from any of them. You can tell they actually care at Northwind also and it's not just about making money and marketing themselves or selling you something you don't need. Our pup is our first and whenever we were nervous about anything they were always willing to talk to us and see our pup when anything happened. We feel so blessed we found them.Read Less

I took my first dog to Northwind on my cousin's recommendation and have loved them since then. I used to travel a lot and boarded my dog there. I knew he was in good and loving hands. They were truly wonderful when it was Wile E.'s time. When I started bringing Sheldon and Natty in, everyone had to come meet them to see who could follow Wile E. The staff are kinda like family now. Their prices are very reasonable and the vets are great at answering questions. I moved from Baltimore 2 years ago but still take my dogs to Northwind, driving up from Silver Spring. Great service here. My poor dog was very sick and I called and unfortunately they had nothing for a day or two maybe even longer. They recommend me to the ER and I know that is not very cheap but if my pet is sick I'm going to do what I have to do to get my pet better. They called the next day to check on my baby girl and we made a follow up appointment. I understand they are not an emergency hospital but they try there best to get us in.Read Less

I recently had to put my precious cat, Oreo, to sleep. He was a member of my family for 17 years and was so very much loved. I never had to go through this awful experience before. I searched for places on FB through friends that I knew had pets. Dr. Russ's name kept being mentioned. I put my trust in the hands of my Facebook friends. They were right! We have 7 pets. Three dogs and four cats. Dr Russ and his team are great with all of them. Every time we go in everyone has smiles. The care our dogs have received is first class. I wish I could find a family doctor that I love half as much as I love Dr. Russ. I've been going to Northwind for about 8 years now and have been absolutely pleased in every way.Their prices are reasonable and Dr. Russ always provides a range of options when there is a medical issue. He describes each option and its cost, then tells you what he would do with his own animal. I take my two precious Yorkies to NAH for everything. Coqui has a brain illness that Dr. Russ starter treated (He also recommended a good neo doc) and now Dr. Triplett follow up Coqui's progress. We have used NAH for our pets' care over the past 3-4 years. Recently, we had to make the difficult choice to put our beloved 15 yr old husky-lab 'Jasper' down. The staff were never bothered by our hundreds of questions, walked us through the entire process, and were remarkable kind through this time. We received a sympathy card in the mail about a week after his passing with a hand written note from each of the staff members, including the vets. The quality of care or pets received was always impressive. They are reasonable in their pricing, although any pet owner knows the cost of care is not cheap. More importantly with regard to pricing, they are up front in their pricing, so I have never been caught off guard by anything. When the time comes for us to get another dog or cat, we will most certainly choose Northwind Animal Hospital as our place for veterinary care. Read Less

I am so thankful that my sister referred us to this wonderful animal hospital. We take our 14-week old pomerarnian, Frankie, there and are always greeted warmly and treated well during the entire visit. Frankie broke three legs over Labor Day weekend, so we have been pretty frequent visitors to the animal hospital and EVERY staff member we have come across seem to care deeply about my little guy. I had to have my very sick cat put down this past weekend. I had adopted her from the Humane Society three months earlier, but they were rude and completely lacked sincerity for my situation and my ordinary vet's office was closed for the weekend. Not wanting my cat to suffer through the weekend, I called Northwind Animal Hospital just a few minutes before they were closing for the day. Without hesitation, they told me to come in and they would euthanize her that day. I am so touched by their compassion, both for the wellbeing of my cat (who they never saw as a patient) and for my own feelings and safety (requesting that I drive safe getting there and leaving, knowing how distraught I was). Instead of rushing me through the process so they could close the office, Dr. Triplet set aside time to ask questions to be sure I was making the right decision and she was very gentle with Mo in the last few moments of her life. If I decide to adopt again, I will absolutely use Northwind Animal Hospital. I cannot thank the Dr. and staff enough. They made the process of letting go just a little easier. Read Less

My family has used Northwind for a very long time. They have alway been caring and extremely helpful whenever I have had a problem. I took my beloved Lab to them for years, when it was finally time to have him put to rest the staff cried with me. I got a wonderful card a few days later with memories of the staff had of my dog. Over the years I have recommended them to dozens of people,all who have great things to say about them. Dr.Russ recently saved a friends Chesapeake puppy whom had horrible hip problems,his first vet told him to put her down immediately,she would never walk again. A friend and fellow animal lover recommended Dr. Russ to me about five years ago. I began taking my dog to him, and continue to see him even though I have moved more than an hour away. My dog had what we thought for a couple of years was an irritable bowel (what a mess!), but it turned out to be a thyroid condition. I think Dr. Russ was conservative in running diagnostic testing because of the costs associated with them, which I think is considerate and addresses the concern of those people who complain about how expensive the practice is (don't get a pet if you can't afford to give it the care it needs). Once I told him it was okay he ran several tests and we found out my dog's thyroid levels were super low. Now I give him a pill twice a day - he feels great and hasn't had a bowel issue since he started on the meds. He's had some other non-related health issues we're still addressing, but what impresses me about Dr. Russ is that he takes his time with us and explains things thoroughly not only during our office visits (when there's a charge for his time), but on follow up telephone calls (where there's no compensation). None of the doctors I see for my own health would fit in a 10-minute telephone conversation with me in the middle of their day! Dr. Russ seems to genuinely care about my dog, and I would assume, all of the animals he treats.Read Less

A coworker recommended this vet to me, after I wouldn't stop bitching about the vet I had before.  I am fairly new to the dog world, so i have a million questions and well, my dog is kinda wild, thus making vet visits a traumatic event for me and anyone who had the unfortunate luck of being there as well.  The staff at Northwind however, are always friendly and accomodating, and their compassion for animals really shows.  I never have to wait long, and they all know my pup by name and actually seem happy to see him, even after the time he tried to rob them blind of bags of treats!  I've called with questions and both Docs always take the time to explain what it could be and calm my fears.   By far, the best vet I've been to!
