I've been a happy customer of Falls Road Veterinary Hospital for the past 3 years so I thought I'd share my experiences. . .I've never met Dr. Ainsworth or Dr. Fagan but can personally vouch for both Dr. Amaroso and Dr. Navarra. Both are extremely thorough, attentive, and caring professionals that routinely go above and beyond to make sure that my dog is healthy and that we are both happy. Short Story:1.) Staff is ALWAYS courteous, professional, and NICE (technicians, receptionists, and veterinarians). Phone calls are always answered, messages are promptly returned, and test results communicated within 24 hrs.2.) Short wait time, if any at all (5 minutes or less).3.) GREAT bedside manner. Drs Amaroso and Navarra spend plenty of time with my 3 yr old golden retriever and recheck him for recurring issues (ear infections) without my prompting. They spend as much time with me as necessary to answer all of my questions and make sure that I understand the treatment plan, diagnosis, etc. I never feel rushed. 4.) If your not sure that an issue warrants a trip to the vet (i.e. diarrhea, razor burns from groomer, puppy vomits up stuffed animal - true story) call them and they will have the vet call you right back (or in the event of swallowed stuff animal- talk to you immediately). The vet will patiently listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and if they don't think it's necessary to see your pet, will recommend treatment over the phone.5.) They are very competent even with rare/unusual cases (see story below). 6.) Cost: Their prices are comparable to other vets in the area (Dog Exam $65, Re-check $55, Cytology $40) but they are not the cheapest. I am willing to pay a little extra ($10) to know that my vet cares (see #4) and that I am not wasting my time making multiple trips to get the correct diagnosis (see #5). I have also NEVER had unnecessary treatments or examinations forced upon me. If I think I can handle something I ask if we can forgo the followup - they usually work something out. Long Story:3 years ago I got my first golden retriever puppy and was less than pleased to notice some odd symptoms after I brought him home from the breeder- i.e. excessive dandruff and itchiness. The vet I was seeing at the time for regular checkups didn't notice the symptoms nor did he seem to care until I made it an issue after symptoms persisted for 3 months (he actually seemed annoyed). Long story short- vet took some samples, called me back, and let me know my dog had mange (guess I was right to worry, huh) . . . no follow up, no alarm, nothing?!? When I called the breeder, she was baffled (of course) and asked that I get a second opinion- namely from her vet (no way). A friend recommended Dr. Amaroso and I scheduled an appointment immediately. Within the first 15 minutes Dr. Amaroso diagnosed my pup (cheyletiella- a skin mite, rare for Maryland) then proceeded to spend another 40 MINUTES examining my pup but mostly just answering all of my frantic questions (skin mite!? how do I get rid of it? do I need to bomb my house? what should I do about the breeder?). Oh and a few months later when I noticed my dog constantly tearing from one eye, Dr. Amaroso diagnosed that too- his tear duct never properly formed (why? we don't know). His suggestion: he could surgically construct a tear duct (Dr. Amaroso did a fellowship in ocular surgery) or I could leave it alone (it shouldn't bother him, its only cosmetic). I treated the mites and left the tear duct alone. The dandruff was gone in a week and my pup couldn't care less about his "teary" eye, in fact, most people don't even notice, I get more people telling me how handsome he is . . . obviously he has come along way - thanks to Falls Road.
