I used this practice for the last 12 years, but as of this week, no longer.  The negligence on behalf of the staff, lack of responsiveness from management, and every rotating front desk staff have become too much of a problem to ignore.  My dog was picked up from boarding with dried urine spots on him, and my other dog was vaccinated against my directions. I was never contacted after leaving a two page letter outlining my concerns.  They are in it for the money not the pets. Its a shame, because it did not used to be this way. Read Less

First I will preface this review with a prior appointment that I had a few years back- Appointment 10;30am. I arrived with my dog, family member, at 10;10am. At 10;47am, I asked if there was an issue and when I could be seen because I had made the appointment well within weeks, in advance. I was assured that it would be a few minutes, five or ten more, and my family member "doggie"  would be seen. What was the exact time that we were seen? 12;21pm.The reasoning, by the lady at the front desk, was that she was not responsible for the timing of appointments. Even though she was making and confirming appointments during the over my ninety minute wait. The next reasoning, this time by an unnamed and unknown "Vet" (?) was that "I was not understanding how important and how busy the doctors are.." and that I was being "very rude and impatient to the vets" by constantly asking " when can we be seen? It's 11...?"It was quite a bit of time, months, after that, that I considered trusting, the albeit competent and decent vets, with another appointment with my doggie family. So it is with equal parts anger, frustration, fear and bewilderment that this exact same waiting game/blame game (the Doctors blaming me for being impatient ) this time with an unexpected 40 minute wait that turned into an almost hour wait and this time with the assurance that " your dog may be not be seen for a while.." To clarify this, it was an emergency appointment that I made- Appointment time officially and verbally by phone and by the offices own text,  4pm. I arrived at 3;40pm. At a quarter to five I was told that it would be a longer wait, if my dog could even be seen at all that night.Further more the response was exactly the same, my fear and frustration of my dog not being seen and staying hurt. Also the cavalier way that no one from the front desk to the female "vet(?)"   could offer any assistance, assurance and blamed me for "you do not understand how important the vets are here..we must take emergencies first.." I replied that "this was an emergency and I had an appointment.."  The Vet firmly lectured me that "..you are not listening, we are very busy.." (.there are six doctors on duty?) Neither the vet or the lady at the front desk took any form of responsibility. My situation was hard and my feelings stressful-they both seemingly took delight in putting me in my place. How dare they?Yes, I was extremely cross and stated that I could not wait any longer and that I was leaving and going to find a better vet. My hope is to find one that was less condescending and more available. As I left they (my back was to them) folks at the counter jeered "goodby..get out...we don't need you!.." This infuriated me until I dissected the entire situation.Granted that the reviews for Mountainside Vet are very positive. But these are from the doggie daddy and moms that ARE SEEN and ARE SEEN ON TIME."..get out- we don't need you.."  I take that to mean that all six vets have so many clients that losing me and my family members is surely no bother to them. Do they care that they turned away a hurt dog and willfully alienated and agitated a customer? A doggy daddy?Nope.  "...good by...get out..we don't need you.." HOW DARE THEY.So, I say to all of the pet parents who are lucky enough to be "insiders" of the Mountainside vet clique, well done you, you have every right to cheer. But if you are not a lucky member of that exclusive club- if you are a pet parent  and you are seeking an compassionate, decent and reliable vets office to take your pet- MOUNTAINSIDE VETS IS NOT THE PLACE TO TAKE THEM. THEY DO NOT CARE FOR YOU, WANT YOU, OR WILL RESPECT YOU OR YOUR DOGGIE FAMILY MEMBER.They are outwardly and smugly "victims" (sic) of their own success and DO NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU. Those positive reviews are indeed truthful and honestly positive. Read them and move on. MOUNTAINSIDE VETS will not accept you and the inhumane price you and your furry family member will have to pay, IS NOT WORTH it.I'm unhappy. My pup is still injured and I am scrambling to find a vet to get her better.I'm wiser and deeply offended at how Mountainside treated me. I'm just putting out a practical warning and advice to anyone who may wish to ring them up. DON'T.FIND ANOTHER VETERINARY HOSPITALRespect your pet and yourself. You can do much better. Read Less

Absolutely horrible. Would give 0 stars if I could. The vet techs are so ridiculously incompetent, the wait times (with appointment) is never less than one hour and they are so rude. We took our dog to get a Lyme vaccine booster shot. First off we didn’t even see a doctor, the vet tech just took her from us announcing they are going to do a blood test and a kennel cough (bordatella) vaccine. Before I could even say anything she took my dog away from me. Why take my dog away? Why would I not be there when services are being performed? Fishy much? We went to the front desk immediately to ask what in the world they were doing with my dog. They said that their records show that she was due for bordatella and the blood test is recommended. This is a hoax! Trying to get your money! I wasn’t asked if I wanted the blood test, they were just ready to perform WITHOUT CONSENT. Same with the wrong vaccination. $$$$$$ !!!!!! Do NOT take your dog here unless you want to pay money that they trick you in, want to wait over one hour, want to deal with absolutely incompetent and slow vet techs, love having money pulled out of your pocket and find it funny when they just perform random things on your pet that weren’t discussed or anything. That being said, the doctors are nice and very competent (if they let you see one that is). Everything else is just ridiculous. Never again! Read Less

My vet for 13 years, since my dog was 3 mos old. You will not find a more efficient or more professional staff within 100 miles, that I'm sure. They accommodate in every way as far as appointments. My dog generally sees Dr, Koelemeyer, but has also seen Dr.Mannes and Dr. Starlings at times as well if Dr.K wasn't available. All are top of their field vets who are conservative first, then aggressive if need be, all the while keeping the pet's health as the #1 priority. Dr. K saved my dog's life on not one, but on two occasions the past 5 years.I can't recommend this office highly enough!!  If I could give 1 million stars I would. Read Less

Starting coming here in 2006 with my first dog and cat. Very nice Doctors and I accepted slightly high prices for great service . Fast forward to 2014, 10 month old kitten brought in with urinary blockage, kept for four days days for $1500. Take him home since he will not eat there per Dr. recommendations. Three days later blocked again and taken back. Stayed there for 11 days, called Dr. everyday that he's improving. Until day 9 called by weekend vet that he's dying and I should see him today. The following Monday they do surgery to check bladder, is dead and gray. Had him put to sleep instead of pain of waking up and put to sleep then. They bill me $3500 for those 11 days and deny the daily phone calls and good news. I asked why would I keep a dying cat alive for nothing, bill will not be reduced. Finally paid bill off this spring after it went to collections. Went from great dealing with them and referring them to neighbors to lying and not willing to accept they deceived me and made a kitten suffer needlessly. Read Less

Updating from what was once a five star review. My last two visits have me looking for a different vet in the area. The first issue was being charged for things I did not have done... what should have been $200ish turned into $850ish and it was like pulling teeth when I asked why it was so high. Then comes the second issue, why am I paying for any office visit with an animal doctor (do veterinary schools need to be accredited or even require classes to get a degree?) who immediately tells me that I'm feeding my dog too much (my dog that I got who was overweight and currently is on a diet). How about asking a question before jumping into accusations. Then to top it all off, next time (there won't be a next time) how about making sure she gets all the shots she needs. We have seen all of the doctors and they worked tirelessly until my cats diagnosis was narrowed down to two possibilities. When I had to make hard medical decisions they were always supportive and treated us both with kindness and understanding. In the end, when I had to put my cat down, they were amazing. My dog was getting seriously sick and after going to two different vets, no one could tell me what the problem was until I met with Dr. Klein at Mountain side. She suggested that, even though it's rare, let's test her for addisons disease, and the test results came in positive. She got right to solving the problem, answered any of the thousands of questions I had, and I left feeling so much better. Lucy was my first dog and I was only 19 at the time and they allowed me to pay in 2 increments which was SO nice, and it's not any more expensive than any other vets in the area. It's with a heavy heart, along with many others, that I say goodbye to Dr Ron,what a guy,and what a vet, taken WAY too early from us.Always took great care of ours and all our friends pets. Dr Mannes,Dr Goode have been great with our two German Shepherd puppies,(one is 9 months the other 4 months),Sophie has REALLY taken to BOTH and let's them do what they need to without complaint, for those of you who have German Shepherd family members, you know what a big deal that is,and speaks volumes of their bedside manners, they really are great.ALL of the staff are fantastic, all animal lovers and all will do whatever is needed without complaint and always smiling. Now,our other puppy,Bella,is nervous around strangers,so barks a lot and gets upset,BUT when Dr Goode is there,Bella trusts her.Other than us,Adrienne (Dr Goode),is the only other person she allows near her without complaint.Thats priceless to us.I am not taking away from any other Vets,I am sure all are excellent, but I speak as I find, the services are exceptional and it's all about the pets,NOT the money.Everything is well documented and no mix ups on which pup is there for a visit, treats freely available for, let's face it,a stressful time for a pet(just think how you feel being at a Doctors office). If you are looking for a Vet Services, consider Mountainside, the late(God Bless His Soul) Dr Symonds started and maintained the beliefs, pets first, and as a VERY happy pet parent and can say your pet will be very happy as will you.If anyone from Mountainside happens to read this review, you have earned a great review, not just from me,but many of our friends as well, who equally speak very highly of all you guys. Edit: I just had to edit my review because we recently moved to Tallahassee, FL, and I miss Mountainside very much!! having 8 animals we are constantly at the vet, and I still have yet to find anyone with as much compassion or commitment to great vet care. Call and make your appointment, you will not regret it! This place is truly as good as it gets. The hospital itself is completely remodeled and outfitted with state of the art equipment including what is necessary for laser surgery (MUCH safer for the animal). They have at-least 4 vets, possibly more, but when you go in they all treat you like family. They review the chart before coming in, and tend to remember things you mentioned in your last visit or ask about your other animals. They are not cheap per-se, but being someone with a low income, they have been the most affordable vet around because of their service. This is like going to Hopkins over patient first, its quality vs quantity and quality care is less costly in the end. On several occasions I have had to bring my dogs in for emergency situations and the ladies behind the desk are awesome when you call. They ask the right questions and let you tell them the whole story. They have fit us in, same-day, every time we have had something serious going on. They will even go talk to the doc and see if you need a prescription or if you really need an exam done.  They are also more than happy to get an estimate for you so you're prepared for the final bill. I cant say enough about the support staff there. And the vets are SO compassionate! they are the type of people you envision devoting their lives to animals. On our last visit our dog was pretty beat up from diving through a window and the vet made that entire experience bearable and affordable. I believe that they will not take you in an emergency situation if they have not seen the animal before, so going in to get the $40 exam done is well worth it. The cost for nail clipping is not too high and they also do boarding which I like because they are on what appears to be about an acre of property with plenty of grass to walk the dogs (which I see them doing every time I am there). All in all I could not ask for a better vet, and if I could move them with us out of state I would in a heartbeat! They survive purely on referrals (no advertising) and the waiting room always has someone in it. I do not have one complaint and we have been there a minimum of 10 times in the last 2 years. Give them a chance- you wont want to take your furry kids to anyone else.

I have been going here since my parents brought home our first dog when I was in fourth grade when they had a cat named Tater as their mascot.  20+years later, I am bringing my fur babies here, my terrier mix lived til the age of 13; my chihuahua to the age of 16.  We have a 1 year old Jack Cheagle that we rescued that was extremely nervous on his first visit to Mountainside.  Dr. Kohlmeyer was awesome....seeing immediately how nervous he was, he sat on the floor and talked to him and petted him until the dog settled down enough to get his exam.  The front desk is terrific too...I never have a problem getting an appt. though they are very busy.  I think one would be hard pressed to find a more caring vet staff in this area than the one that is at Mountainside. Read Less
