I used to really like this place. The staff was always great, friendly to my pup, and it's very close to home. However some recent experiences have left a bad taste in my mouth and I'll be searching for a new vet. I'm not sure if management changed but the staff has been anything but helpful and a tad unprofessional. Recently I called with some questions and as the receptionist was unable to help I asked to speak with a vet. I was told I'd be put on with a vet and was placed on hold. Once the person comes to the phone I begin asking questions and relaying  my concerns. During the course of the conversation I asked, "are you one of the vets?" To my surprise she responds "well I work here, I'm a receptionist." I couldn't believe it! That was the last straw for me. I don't think it's good business to advise a client that they'll be speaking with a vet just for the client to get the bait and switch and end up with a receptionist. Needless to say I cancelled my Pup's future appointment and advised we would no longer support this place.- Read Less

Honestly, if I could give less than one star I would. The vet tech seemed too nervous to handle my rabbit, thankfully she didn't. The actual doctor picked him up wrong and literally DROPPED him on the floor. Ive never heard my rabbit make any kind of audible noise. He was squealing and screaming!! I thought he was gonna die he was in such a panic, I was practically in tears. The doctor managed to calm him down long enough to clip his nails but afterwards all he did was check his heartbeat and teeth. He never checked his body to make sure he was okay after the fall. Rabbits can be naturally jumpy which is why they are supposed to be picked up a certain way. I doubt he has adequate experience with bunnies. Very disappointed with my rabbits first vet visit. We have been going to Lynn Animal Hospital ever since we moved to the area, four years ago. We have two dogs and cat, but had other pets in the mix over the years. When we were moving to Europe, we had to obtain documents for their departures. Lynn Animal Hospital charged extremely high fee in order to see our pets and give us the certificates - over $210 per animal. Due to flight changes, we needed to repeat getting a certification for one of our dogs (all certificates have to be submitted in the period of ten days or less prior to the trip), and when I asked for a discount given that they have seen and written a certification for that pet already, I was told that the the fee goes toward researching what goes into a certificate. Really?!??!?! Each time it goes toward that although you already have a saved copy. Some vets put all pets on one certificate, charging per certificate as opposed to per pet, the same way that USDA does it.In any case, paying over $800 to get three pets out of US (not to mention airline fees), got me researching other vets. I came to find out that Lynn Animal Hospital has the highest fees, higher than the vets in Dupont Circle and Georgetown, mega centers in our area.I found Lynn Animal Hospital's lack of sensitivity and ear to the matter to be troubling. I don't know if they are putting their financial needs ahead of everything else, but I found it to be disturbing and very unpleasing. We come back home to the US regularly, but have decided not to travel with our pets as we would have to go through the same experience, and in the end we really do not need to pay a whole extra ticket in expenses pets as if we are buying an actual adult ticket ... so while we will miss our pets, we have decided to have them stay with our friends for the duration of our return. I have been a longtime patron of this clinic, and have seen it go downhill over the years. This year was the worst. The vet took a biopsy of my cat's tumor, but the biopsy was too badly done to analyze. She recommended that I do it again for the same amount of money. I just looked at the report from the biopsy lab, and they offered to redo it at a reduced rate! That was never mentioned to me at Lynn Animal Hospital. The vets are incompetent, the receptionists are rude and uncaring, and the vet techs are abusive to animals. I will never go back. Read Less

Dr. Stancliff is AMAZING. My 16 week old kitten had eaten some thread out of the trash, but we didn't know that when I took him in. It took a few days and rounds of x-rays (thread doesn't show up in xrays) and sedating him to look in his mouth to figure out what the issue was. One of the days I took him in, it was her day off, but she still stayed on top of the case, communicating and consulting with the doctor we saw that day. Hannibal ultimately needed surgery to remove the thread, but today (the day after his surgery) he is already acting more like himself. She really saved my baby!Dr. Stancliff is amazingly professional and reassuring- I could tell she really cared about Hannibal. She did a great job of explaining the x-rays to me in a way that made sense to a layperson. Before doing procedures or prescribing meds, she let me know how much it was going to cost (important- I'm a teacher on a budget). This was my first experience with Lynn Animal Hospital, but I will definitely be taking Hannibal back to see Dr. Stancliff. They fit him in on the first day I called, even though Hannibal was not yet a patient of the practice.  The only negatives to our experience with the practice were on the day Dr. Stancliff wasn't there and we saw Dr. Frost. First, they clipped Hannibal's nails without asking me- I would have said no if asked. Dr. Frost was also not as up-front in informing me about the costs of procedures and meds as Dr. Stancliff. These are small things, but they do make a difference.Other than those two negatives, I'm very pleased with Lynn Animal Hospital and the care my kitten received. Thank you Dr. Stancliff! Read Less

Dr. Carmen at Lynn Animal Hospital is excellent. We had tried Silver Spring Animal Hospital when we first moved to the Washington, DC metropolitan area and we didn't like that they were constantly recommending x-rays for our healthy dog each visit. Dr. Carmen, in contrast, never tries to hike the bill by recommending unnecessary services. He is down to earth and tells it to you straight, then lets you decide what you want to do. He is also an excellent vet.  One of our older dogs had cancer and needed emergency surgery to have a tumor removed. Friendship Animal Hospital would have charged a fortune for the surgery. For a fraction of the price, Dr. Carmen did the same surgery. He successfully removed that tumor and saved our dog's life. When Dr. Carmen is not available, he has excellent colleagues who also give great professional service. We have been going to Lynn Animal Hospital for over 10 years now and they are the best! I can't speak more highly of the staff at Lynn Animal Hospital. On June 8th, my wife and I adopted an 8 week old kitten named Jade. From the first visit, we were thrilled with the level of communication from the staff. Everyone was friendly, and Dr. Carman walked us through the necessary schedule of vaccinations for kittens. He prescribed an antibiotic and some eye ointment to clear up an upper respiratory infection and conjunctivitis that Jade had contracted prior to us adopting her. I wish I could say that thing turned out in the long run, but on June 18th, we woke up to find Jade very ill. We rushed her to Lynn Animal Hospital and into the care of Dr. Stancliff-Lubow. Jade was quickly diagnosed with FIP, and we ended up putting her to sleep shortly thereafter. Despite how it turned out, I am incredibly impressed by the experience we had with Lynn Animal Hospital. The compassion and patience from the staff the morning we put Jade down was, in a word, incredible. I should note, that morning the staff arrived to find a burst pipe in their bathroom which had flooded a portion of the building. You wouldn't know it from the experience we had. We never felt rushed, and it was clear we were their priority. They made letting Jade go as easy as it could be under the circumstances. We knew we were making the right call. Today, I got the mail, and found a sympathy card from Dr. Stancliff-Lubow. I really don't have words for how much that meant to my wife and I. Needless to say, as long as we're living in the area, we will be going to Lynn Animal Hospital. Read Less

I started taking my miniature pinscher to Dr. Carmen in 2014, shortly after he was diagnosed with diabetes. It was a very stressful time and I was looking for a vet that I felt I could trust. I originally took my dog to Banfield in Greenbelt and was unhappy with how they handled him. My dog gets very stressed out when he goes to the vet. It doesn't help that he isn't exactly people friendly and needs to be muzzled. He is a little dog but he puts up a fight. Dr. Carmen and Gail (one of the vet techs) are both great with him and handle him gently. Dr. Carmen does not rush his appointments and takes the time to answer any questions I may have. We see Dr. Carmen every three months to periodically check his blood glucose levels. He almost always calls me with the lab results within the same day. I like that they send me appointment reminders by text and email.  Their front desk staff is friendly too. I now have another puppy who has also started seeing Dr. Carmen. Read Less

I left Lynn Animal Hospital after finding that their care of my dog was compromised by their lack of adequate resources. The first incident was when my elderly dog had to undergo dental surgery a second time because they literally ran out of gas to power their drill during his first surgery. The second incident was the week that I called on Monday with questions about my dog, who by this point had terminal cancer. Three days later I called again, and was told that the vet in the office that day would not be calling me back, because my dog's care had been relegated to the younger vet who was not in the office until the next day. My dog was bleeding at that point. I went to an emergency vet hospital instead and then switched practices. My dog's condition has since improved with the medication given at the new practice. I was told that the vets had not called me back for three days because they had been busy with appointments and calls all day. That's unacceptable. It's the responsibility of an animal care practice to have sufficient staff to care for their animals, especially those with terminal illnesses. Considering also their overcrowded offices at the end of the day and their inability to keep sufficient fuel on hand to power their surgical tools, they seem to have an ongoing issue covering the care of their patients. Every summer, I board my dog at Lynn Animal Hospital.  I started using them in 2013 or 2014. In the beginning, they were good. I was totally satisfied but each year since, it's been more and more difficult to board my dog. There's always some requirement that I need before I board him. This year, I can't board him there. He needs a canine influenza shot that's given in stages. (One shot is given. And 3 weeks later a booster is given.)I asked them if they could give him the shot while He's boarded and they said "NO", "SORRY about that. I was so irritated. Most pet boarders will suggest that shot given but not require it for boarding. I keep up with my dog's shot record but I didn't have that shot given because It's not a requirement everywhere.  My suggestion to anyone who wants to use them is to call a month in advance to make sure your pet has all of their required shots. But don't be surprised when you get there, and you need one more required shot or some other documentation. Read Less

Great experience with the vet but was badly misled about using our pet insurance plan. As a result, we will not return because of the malfeasance and unprofessionalism of the staff. We left our old vet because we had purchased a pet insurance plan (Pet Assure) that the old vet did not take. After calling several local vets, we were told by Lynn Animal Hospital that they took this plan. I called ahead of time to make sure that they did. I asked again when we came in. And I asked a third time when I paid. When it came time to be reimbursed they then informed me that they did NOT take the plan. Making the entire matter more unpleasant, when I called about this matter after the visit, the front desk person said she would speak to the office manager and get back to me. Didn't happen. After waiting a week to hear from them, I called them back. The office manager answered the phone and immediately knew who I was. She offered no apology for not calling back and made it very clear that they never had taken Pet Assure and were not going to offer any kind of consideration, even though I was clear why we had come to them, that I had specifically asked about this and they had explicitly told me they used Pet Assure. You can see from other ratings that Lynn is well thought of and, as I stated at the beginning, our experience with the vet herself was very good. However, this experience with the staff left a bitter taste from beginning to end. Staff clearly told us our insurance would be accepted. We left our old vet, who we liked very much, because of that representation. And we found the office manager to be quite unsympathetic and adamant that they had made no mistakes. It was a real, "Sorry Charlie" attitude. Thanks so much, Lynn Animal Hospital for the professional treatment. Not. Read Less

I had 2 chis:1 died under the care of one veterinarian here-I mean she literally died in office due to an enlarged heart (she was 9), the other is 13 years old and going strong.  The living chihuahua- he is taken care of very well under Dr. Kessler.  He recently had 2 teeth removed by her and I was very worried about him due to his age.  I actually thought his dental siutation was worse than what it was as his canine teeth appeared infected, but that wasnt the case.  He came out strong and back to his normal self and ate the same day. He did not require any of the medication they provided.  They even clipped his nails for him no charge.  I felt as if Dr. Kessler did very well with the surgery for my boy and I will take him back to her and request for her only. What I really appreciated was the follow up call to check on him.  That level of customer service is needed, considering these are our beloved pets/family members.   I really wish my other chihuahua didnt die here, I would have really given them 5 stars.  But, I realize these things happen. Let me begin by saying: The hardest things to let go off when moving here from the Midwest were my vets. My dogs two 20 pound puggles, one female (spayed, age 7) and one male (neutered, age 6, with a ventricular arrhythmia) had the same primary care vet for five years, and Rupert had been receiving excellent specialized care at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital. That said, after our first exam (a simple yearly checkup), I was very happy with the quality of care and customer service provided at Lynn Animal Hospital. The most surprising and unfortunate aspect of the visit was the building itself; exam room one is located directly through the reception area, slightly off to the side so the view is admittedly somewhat obstructed. Things were a bit crowded with me, my partner, the two dogs, the vet, and the assistant gathered; plus, because the room was not isolated, we could neither take the dogs off their leashes NOR sit as there was only one tall stool. The best aspect of the visit was the vet himself; Dr. Carman is friendly and funny. He was also very knowledgeable; he offered comparisons of all the various flea/tick/heartworm preventatives but ultimately said our picks Trifexis and Preventic collars were perfectly acceptable even if Lynn does not sell the latter in-store. He suggested we try Oravet (dental hygiene chews given daily) to improve the condition of both dogs teeth, and we have now gone through the entire box, ready to buy another. At $13 for 14 bones, they seem a wise purchase. Other than the building itself, the only issues and minor ones at that were that Chloes nail was cut to the quick and bled after Dr. Carman already had to make two separate insertions to withdraw blood. Both mistakes were handled calmly and quickly such that Chloe did not become distressed. I look forward to developing as successful a veterinary care relationship with the staff here as back home!Read Less

I highly recommend Lynn Animal Hospital as a veterinarian in the Hyattsville/College Park, Maryland area.  Today I took my dog in for a vaccination.  Kevin, an assistant/technician at Lynn noticed that my dog had incomplete rabies vaccination records, so he called our old veterinarian and was persistent with them to get the medical records sent over right away.  He could have taken more time and got back to me over the weekend, but Kevin was insistent with the other veterinarian practice and was able to get me an updated rabies certificate right away. The practice has three veterinarians, and my dog has been treated by all three in the past 18 months.  Their care and attentiveness by the entire staff is much appreciated. In the exam room, Dr. R and the vet techs were all very gentle, spoke in friendly and calm voices to my dog, and were incredibly knowledgeable. Their tableside manner towards my pup was perfect. Dr. R presented us with several options for treatment/plans, gave her opinion, and then allowed us to make our own decision on what to do. I had a great experience. They were kind and patient. They gave my cat excellent care and were not threatening or accusatory; sometimes pets get sick. There were three medication treatment options, and they were honest and didn't try to up-sell treatment. The vet explained the pros and cons of pills, liquid and injections; and wanted me to decided what was best for my emotional and fiscal situation. I left feeling I got the best care at a reasonable fee. It was sane, reasonable and respectful; which was surprising because I've had bad experiences with other care facilities in the area. The wait wasn't long, and it all went pretty quickly, which is good for my cats stress level. I would definitely go back. Read Less

The staff at Lynn Animal Hospital are competent and caring, but they will nickle and dime you mercilessly. My dog needed two shots so he could be boarded and one of the shots required a two-week booster. They conducted an unnecessary "recheck examination" for the shot and the booster shot--he had just had his annual physical the month before--inflating the cost of the shots to nearly $200. I could have gotten these shots for $40 other places. So find out exactly what they plan on charging you for before agreeing to have any service performed. As an aside, when I complained about the absurd $200 bill for two shots I received a letter essentially implying that if I truly loved my dog I wouldn't bristle at paying through the teeth--and complained the vets made less than human medical practitioners, as if this unsurprising fact gives them license to gouge pet owners.Read Less

This is the most pleasant vet experience I have ever had. My cats as well. They are professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. One of our cats turns into a ball of swinging nails and teeth when we try to trim his nails. He was calm as a hindu cow when they trimmed them here. Well worth the couple extra dollars to have professionals do it. They also have some treats for our furry friends and even coffee and tea for the owners/parents of our pets. I agree that it does look a little worn inside, but I would rather that they keep the prices stable and continue providing great care than have a fancy shmancy animal hospital. If these guys opened a people hospital, I would go too! This review and rating is for Dr. shmidt. I had taken my cat to Lynn for 2+ years without complaint. When my cat's eye was injured by a wand toy when I was playing with him (ARGH!), I took my cat in (early Saturday morning). I was totally freaked out, and my husband accompanied me. Shmidt saw my cat for ten minutes, during which time he lost all credibility and his treatment of my cat fell below the minimum standard of care. First, after I told him exactly how the injury happened and when, shmidt wildly speculated with no rationale that the eye injury could have happened last night "or from prior injuries, I don't know." what? After showing us how to apply antibiotic ointment to the eye, he did not indicate how often to apply it. I had to expressly ask if 3 times a day was enough, and he said yes. My husband asked if it would be a problem that my cat has been rubbing his eye, and shmidt responded curtly, "well, he's going to rub his eye after you apply the medicine." That obviously did not answer the question. Then, shmidt looked at my cat's teeth and he smiled at me and said roguishly that he was making sure I didn't knock out any of my cat's teeth. What? And that was the end of the appt. it cost us $80. I got two other opinions from other vets, one from a recommended pet ER, and both said it was important to monitor the rubbing of the eye. One vet strongly encouraged the use of an Elizabethan collar to prevent rubbing, so we bought one and put it on my cat. My husband took my cat in again when lynn was open again (after the weekend) to be checked out by another vet at Lynn, and he had a completely different experience with Dr. Miller. Dr. Miller said we could apply the ointment every 3 hours, which is much more than the 3 times per day that shmidt said. Dr. Miller also gave my cat pain medicine, which shmidt had not even indicated was a possibility. She said it was important to monitor the rubbing of the eye in case it looked worse thereafter, which was something shmidt did not even consider. She was interested in my cat's well being and thorough. We were not charged for this visit. My cat's eye is healing wonderfully now, thank god. But I am afraid to speculate how things might have turned out if I had not consulted with 2 other vets and Dr. Miller. Shmidt has absolutely no business treating your pet. He acted with complete apathy for my cat's well being, and he showed a lack of competence and a lack thoroughness that is well below the minimum standard of care for a professional vet. I caution those who trust Lynn with your pets to ensure that shmidt is not the vet who has been assigned to your next appt. Read Less

I just received a reminder that my dog Lucy was due for her annual exam and immunizations. Unfortunately Lucy died on June 27. You might remember that I called to ask for assistance in her passing and was told that the vets who had cared for her since she was a puppy, through her recovery from thyroid cancer, were too busy to offer any help. Her death came at a busy time for you, I appreciate, since you were losing one of your vets, Dr. Freed, or so I was told though he is still listed as a doctor at Lynn. As you might imagine, I am not inclined to bring Huckleberry, my remaining dog, back to your care. Last year when I brought my Sophie in to be put down at the end of her life, your hospital did not even acknowledge her passing through a card or a note, just the bill which I paid promptly. Perhaps having brought my dogs to Lynn for more than 14 years makes little difference to you but it meant something to me. Perhaps you are a fine caring facility for all your other clients. But for me and my dogs, you have been an enormous disappointment. Your indifference increased the anguish and pain of losing my beloved Lucy and Sophie. You should be ashamed. Patricia KingRead Less

My wife and I started coming to Lynn Animal Hospital after we moved from Baltimore to Greenbelt a few years ago and needed to find a new doctor for our difficult dog---although only 20 pounds, he had a number of fear issues and had a history of biting (mostly us). My wife posted a question to the neighborhood listserv asking for suggestions, and Dr. Kressler responded, saying they were willing to work with dogs with issues like ours. A few of our new neighbors gave positive feedback about Dr. Kressler so we gave her office a shot. All the staff, from the staff at the front desk to the vet techs to the doctors, are wonderful and seem to really care about the animals they are watching over. After our first visit with our 20 pound terror (it took three of us to safely muzzle him) Dr. Kressler guided us to a behaviorist who helped with a number of our dog's issues. Although visits to the vet continued to be stressful, Dr. Kressler, Robin and Stephanie made the experience as easy and safe as possible. After Dr. Kressler left, we've worked almost exclusively with Dr. Carman, who I've also found to be fantastic. We sadly had to put our dog down last week and Dr. Carman was as kind and gentle as possible, given the circumstances. In the lead up to our decision, he spent nearly an hour on the phone with my wife listening to her and counseling her over the decision. On the day of, he let us stay as long as we needed and took the time to speak with us for several minutes. If we continue to live in this area and we adopt another pet, I can't imagine taking that pet anywhere else. Read Less

We were welcomed with open arms! The staff at Lynn Animal Hospital are super friendly. They were very caring and sweet with our pets. The doctor we saw - an exotic animal specialist - was extremely informative about guinea pigs and gave us some great tips. The procedure for neutering our male guinea pig, Linus, was a drop-off-in-morning, pick-up-in-evening kind of deal. Linus was treated well and healed extremely fast thanks to Lynn Animal Hospital. We are so thankful for their presence in the College Park area and highly recommend them as a great vet's office! Read Less

I became a first-time customer with Lynn about one year ago for my dog, based on a couple of recommendations in my neighborhood. I have seen both Dr. Frost and Dr. Stancliff on several occasions and have had good experiences with both doctors. They seem like they know their stuff and treat my dog well. It's not too difficult to schedule appointments and as others have mentioned, the staff seem easy to work with. The facilities are a bit dated, but focusing on the primary point of the hospital (animal care) they seem to be firing on all cylinders. They have treats available for cats and dogs. Hopefully things stay this way. Read Less

We took our dog here tonight in an emergency. Everyone was so accommodating, friendly, caring, and wonderful. Rita behind the desk was wonderfully efficient and kind. Even the staff members who weren't directly working with our dog chatted with us amicably. It was fantastic. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had in any kind of medical setting. We've been normally going to another vet, but (unless we move out of the area) I think we're going to switch to Lynn for our regular checkups, etc. They are awesome!

This place is a gem, and should be a model for other vets/animal hospitals to emulate. Read Less

I want a vet to be caring about my companion animals, organized, knowledgeable about the field of animal medicine and behaviors, willing to learn and try new approaches, and able to clearly communicate my alternatives in the care of my feline family members. That requires the skills of a surgeon, anesthesiologist, dentist, pharmacist and animal psychologist, to name but a few. Dr. Carman and his staff manage all these roles, and more, with warmth and a smile. Thank you all. Read Less

Read Less

Having guinea pigs becomes an interesting phenomenon when searching for a vet. A lot of vets offices don't take "exotic animals." However, during our search for the perfect vet in Maryland, Lynn Animal Hospital was the winner. We just wanted a simple check-up on our three piggies, and to get the male neutered. Read Less
