Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic

Rockville, Maryland
General Info
Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic, located in Rockville, prides itself on providing compassionate and knowledgeable care to pets in the area. Their services include , and Dental Care. The team understands the vital role pets play in the lives of families and strives to foster wellness, address chronic problems, and alleviate urgent issues. The Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic in Rockville combines soothing environments with attentive staff to care for your pets as they would want to be treated throughout Maryland. Initial visits frequently start within a low distraction area which allows the pet an opportunity to explore or settle. Staff members observe several factors, such as the tail’s position and how the animal reacts to sounds or uses its paws. Veterinary experts also check jaw symmetry and evaluate how the pet responds to their close presence. They test a pet’s gait, coat condition, pulse rate, or hydration level during physical examination. Every minute detail is recorded when dealing with animals unfamiliar with medical procedures or those which had a painful past and resist handling. Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic offers diagnostic analysis, surgical planning, wellness examinations, mobility tracking, and parasite prevention services. Care plans rely on the pet’s sensory input to touch and surroundings as well as other clinic environmental factors such as lighting, room changes, and sound levels. Families with pets benefit from this assistance, especially in cases where the pet is reluctant in social settings or enjoys repetitive activities. Follow-ups aim to fit into each household’s routine and the pet’s natural rhythm. Pet owners receive detailed explanations and step-by-step reasoning behind the decisions, empowering them to transform from passive observers to active participants in their pets’ health journeys. Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic creates an attention-based care framework for Rockville and surrounding Maryland pet owners to ensure their pets establish a rhythm with the team that needs no words so that each visit unfolds with an unnatural kind of calm. They are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of women by focusing on prevention, early detection, and timely treatment. They value the company’s transparency, educational support, and tailored recommendations. We stay involved with every case, from complex diagnoses to senior pet care. Their reputation is steadily growing as more pet owners become aware of their unique approach to pet health.

Not so sure about this practice anymore.  Used to love to take my cat and felt that everything was thorough, Dr. Burns asked many questions about her outside ventures. The new vet didn't have a lot of questions about her habits or what she ate.  Had a quick exam and one of the shots that were attempted "leaked" because the syringe wasn't affixed properly.  So had to try it again. Then when I was checking out they realized they didn't give her a third booster and we had to pull her out of her carrier enough to get the booster into her shoulder.  I'm not truly confident that really took.  Not feeling really good about the experience. I think my bill was actually $100 more than I have paid in the past. Need to go back to my past years to check but it seemed it was more. Guess you pay more of less!   The cat was very lethargic for 2 days.  Now she is back to herself.  I think I'll be looking for a new location. Read Less

The entire family at Flower Valley makes you feel at home. Notice I say "family" because this practice has been so good to our adopted dog for the four years we have had him: yearly appointments, helping recommend a surgeon when they discovered an anal gland tumor which turned out being cancerous, and recently taking care of our dog's dental problems. They went above and beyond checking in with us after the procedure and making sure we had blankets, soft food, and medicine to make him comfortable. I can't recommend this practice enough. Read Less

We have used Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic for our dogs for over twenty years. It's got a small town feel to it as it is located in our neighborhood in Dr. Burns' home. I don't remember Doc Burns or his colleagues ever leading us astray in a diagnosis on any of the four dogs who have been his patients. He is EXTREMELY personable and his support staff are so caring and loving toward the animals I feel completely comfortable with the care, particularly if we have to leave them at the office for a procedure. The staff also is up to date on new products that may remedy a health or behavior problem that doesn't require medical intervention. The only complaint is that it is expensive. Maybe competitive with others in the area but I have never bothered to check because as long as Flower Valley Veterinary Clinic is there and we are here, that is where the dogs will get their care. I've been using Flower Valley since being referred there by a veterinary friend because I was dissatisfied with another clinic. The vet friend who referred me worked at Flower Valley part time. This clinched it. I went and have been going for about 30 years. The vet friend who referred me has since moved out of state but still I go to Flower Valley. Dr. Burns and the staff and all of the part time vets I've seen over the years have kept me coming back.Dr. Tanya Martof, the vet I currently see has been marvelous. She has helped keep my elderly cat comfortable and has managed his chronic issues carefully. I believe she is responsible for me still having my older dog - she quickly diagnosed an autoimmune disease in 2014 allowing me to get the dog to the emergency/specialty vet and start her on the treatments that saved her. Recently she again came to the rescue with the same dog diagnosing her gall bladder issues allowing me to get her to the specialist for surgery and the care that should bring her home to me soon. The staff is always there for the clients. They are concerned, caring and supportive. It's always a pleasure to call or visit because you know you'll be greeted with a smile and treated with respect. My dogs have always loved going. My father has been taking the family dogs to Dr. Burns for the last 20 -25 years. That says something. I remember going there as a child and how friendly Dr. Burns was and still is. Now that I have two Chihuahuas of my own I took them other places when one slipped on the ice and hurt her leg. I don't know why I didn't take her to Dr. Burns first.  One "younger" vets told me the dog was in pain and need to be put down. The same day a different vet told me the dog didn't need to be put down but needed thousands of dollars in MRI's and possible surgery, thinking it was nerve damage. I passed on that. The dog over the next year regained 90% of use of her leg and runs and smiles and loves life like any other dog. Fed up with three other vets my father chewed me a new one and sent me to Dr. Burns. At the first visit Dr. Burns rubbed the dogs leg smiling at me as I explained the long story. He showed me on a model of a dogs leg that she had torn a ligament in her knee. He asked a few questions and determined the dog was in no pain and didn't "need" surgery to live a happy long life. Years after my dogs and I happy go see Dr. Burns. Read Less

My husband and I bring our dog and cat here. Dr. Burns has been at veterinary medicine for a long time and has probably seen it all. Some people might see his approach as being too "old school", but in the end Dr. Burns will tell you when something is wrong and when you should worry, but won't get you worked up over anything minor. He and his staff is very caring and knowledgeable - I recently called, concerned over my new puppy. His technician asked several questions and relayed the info to Dr. Burns. Shortly thereafter, he called back and told me to keep an eye on the pup and bring her in if I notice any changes. I appreciated the fact he called back immediately but didn't get worked up.I wouldn't call his practice "cutting edge" but if it's honest experience you value, then Flower Valley may be the right clinic for you and your pet.
