SP Vet rocks! The office is clean and pleasant and the staff is courteous and prompt. They go above and beyond to care for their patients (& owners too!) I have never had a less than awesome experience. I am a pet sitter and recently one of my charges, who was diabetic, became very ill at around 8:15 at night. He was in serious trouble and I needed help fast. A few days earlier I had learned from Dr. Heard that they now have extended hours. I called the clinic and explained that, even though we weren’t regular clients, I had a cat in trouble. They immediately said to bring the cat in. Dr. Storm and 2 technicians met us at the door and went to work on him. His blood glucose was too low to register and his temperature was very low. After a couple of hours they got him stable enough to get him to the emergency clinic. They were wonderful. They never gave up and stayed positive throughout. Well it was fine until it wasn't. Profits matter more here than the actual care for the pets. Small vet hospitals are great until they get greedy and want more profits= either charge more OR more pets/clients, (billable) OR both. As the greedy hands look for more profits in a small business the pets suffer due to sloppiness of staff, lost appointments, lost paperwork, lost scripts, changing tenure of prescriptions deliberately to force more appointments = more profits and on and on it goes. Worse yet is staff lying about availability of doctor to speak live and when caught in the lie tries to "spin it". Thanks Alison for that. No worries-liars always get caught ..may this be a lesson to Dr Heard to weed through how her staff treats her "billable" clients and how many will put up with the bs. Doctors are not business people and vice versa - a perfect recipe for the ones who cannot speak/fend for themselves to get caught in a persistent spin cycle for pure profit versus care. The inability to handle increased demand of new pets/more paperwork and a massive cataclysmic cluster starts.  And why I am here.Three days waiting for a refill I shd not have to request (as it was deliberately written "PRN" is as needed.. however it appears "someone" decided to remove "PRN to drive up expenses //billlables". There is no cure for my pet given other issues but hey, " milk it" and repeatedly cut short the prescriptions, force the game of having pharmacy call and fax repeatedly while staff insists never sent. Seriously? Who suffers? Yes the pet then you in mere frustration as the pets becomes uncomfortable from the very thing the meds were to mitigate.Shame on you. Seems you have a number of challenges given the recent reviews other than mine providing a wake up call. You have forgotten the oath you took= do no harm. Simply all wrong. Very helpful and friendly staff. The doctor was very serious about troubleshooting what was ailing my daughter's pet Rosie. She even called another specialist outside of the practice to consult after all of the test results showed no issues (but the animal was obviously ailing). You could also tell how much every person on the staff loved animals which is not always obvious. I had already taken my daughter's pet to another vet so I had that recent visit in my mind when I drove the extra distance to see the doctor at Severna Park veterinary hospital. I had an appointment on September 9, 2016. I was told by a staff member (no name given) to arrive 10-15 minutes early to my appointment and to call when I was in the parking lot and a star member would bring us through the back as the 2 kittens I was bringing in were sick. I was 20 minutes early to the appointment and called to inform that I was there. I was asked if I wanted to come in to fill out paperwork. I informed the staff member that I had already filled out the forms and emailed (8:35am on September 9- day of my appointment) them along with the supporting documents (shot record, certificate of Spay, microchip). Whoever I was speaking to was new and just said "Oh". I stated in the email subject line that "New Pet paperwork for 2 kittens - APPT today 9/9 @ 3:45pm". Body of email: Good Morning,I have attached two new pet forms and supporting documents for 2 kittens.  Our appointment is for 3:45pm today, September 9, 2016. End of email.20 minutes early to the appointment, called front desk from their parking lot; I was told someone would be out shortly. I waited and observed other staff members carrying other animals in. I waited and waited. My appointment was at 3:45pm. It was 3:45pm and I was still waiting. Finally a bit after 4pm, I get a phone call. Severna Park vet wants to know if I'm still coming for my 4pm appointment (appointment was at 3:45 as noted in my original email to SPV). I stated, I had a 3:45 appointment, not 4pm, and that I called at 3:25pm and told whoever answered that I was there in the parking lot for my 3:45pm appointment. The staff member said someone would be out shortly. After sitting in my car for almost 1 hour in the sun with 2 sick kittens, we were finally taken inside.The vet we saw was apologetic and did waive our visit fee. Both of the cats had tape worm and upper respiratory infections (although I should note - no culture was done which I'm not sure if necessary or not.) Even though I had documentation with me and verbally told the vet the kittens just had Revolution 7 days prior- she put more Revolution on them. There is NO reason why they should have been given Revolution twice in a one week period (maybe 2 weeks apart if the fleas are that bad which they were not). Also Revolution doesn't treat tape worm so the vet was giving my kittens an over dose of something they didn't need!At this visit on Friday, September 9, I did state that the kittens had tape worm. I was not given any medication for the tape worm on that day. The kittens had tape worm for at least 1 week (since the day I adopted them) and long term tape worm is not good. I had to call twice the following week (and spent my weekend upset over my sick kittens that STILL HAD TAPE WORM AND NO TREATMENT). I called Monday morning and was told a vet had to review and see. My boyfriend got called in the afternoon (even though I left my name and number with the receptionist) and they apologized profusely (AGAIN) to him and told him the kittens needed the medication for the tape worm. He went and picked it up. It was expired medication. They gave us expired medication for the tapeworm. On the visit, a stool sample was sent out. I asked the vet tech if there would be a charge. She said no and swiped my credit card for the Orbax medication. When I got the stool sample results by phone the day after my appointment (Saturday, September 10) I was asked again about a charge. The person (no name given again but male) stated there wasn't a charge. Almost 2 months later and I got a letter from Severna Park Vet apologizing (for a 3rd time!) but that there was a $40 fee for the stool sample. I've never been charged for a stool sample in the past at other vet offices.We were also prescribed Orbax (which didn't help the kittens). I had to take them to Everheart Vet Hospital on September 23, 2016 where they were finally given a medicine that helped them.I have used Everheart in the past and it is well worth the drive. I take my cat here because it was referred to me by several friends. They were right, it is a wonderful place! The staff and docs are great, they do a wonderful job and are super friendly. When we first came in, they had a sign that said Welcome with my pet's name. So sweet. I never have a long wait. I drive 15 min to go to this specific vet instead of many others that are closer, and for good reason. Read Less

Not impressed. Doctors were nice but we felt like expensive services were pushed on us even when they might not have been necessary. When we refused we were made to feel guilty. Usually the front desk staff are very nice, but on our last visit they got our appointment time wrong and were quite rude about it. There are a number of other good vets in the area, so we switched and probably saved at least $60 on our last visit alone. Read Less

SPVH has taken care of our fur babies since we moved to the area 7 years ago... And everyone here has ALWAYS given us THE BEST care! The staff is outstanding and the Veterinarians are fantastic. The level of care and compassion is something we have never experienced anywhere else. Wonderful people, excellent care!! Dr. Dearing is the absolute best - knowledgeable, patient with all my questions, compassionate, and fantastic with animals. I've been bringing my dogs here for years and have always received first-rate care. All the staff are friendly and helpful and always follow up to see how my dogs are doing after an appointment. I'm not from the area and I am not a client but needed a vet immed. following my seeing and rescuing an injured bird from the side of the road, close to this vets office. The staff was very friendly, and with no hesitation (once they saw me and the injured bird walk in) stepped up, put me at ease and immed. made the bird more comfortable while they contacted the nearest bird sanctuary to step in.Read Less

I could not imagine taking our dogs anywhere else. The front desk staff members are extremely friendly and courteous. The techs truly enjoy interacting with our dogs. Dr Heard and her staff could not have been any more caring when our cat died. They went to extra lengths to ensure that the experience was compassionate for both of my children and for our Wylie. Took my dog there and spent three hundred dollars. Dog didnt get any better. When I did save enough money to take her back. The wouldnt see her for close to another week.
