Dr. Roy took good care of my 14 year old yorkie poodle Turbo.  He comforted me when it was clear that my long time companion was not well and gently let me know that is was time. I stayed in the office for quite a while retelling stories and saying goodbye. Turbo was a very good boy. He and his staff waited patiently outside and came in to provide tissues. Worst place, worst veterinarian, & worst service. Dr. Roy is rude, inconsiderate, selfish, and his only driving force is money. He is a one man shop and is not looking for help knowing that he desperately needs it. Dr. Roy treats his employees like they are all beneath him as individuals. He has yelled at me a couple times for things he has never told me to do. His communication sucks and he expects us to know things that were not said. On top of that his whole business is fallen apart. There is ants crawling in and out of the dog treat bowls. The whole place smells like a dumb. The boarding area for dogs has no windows. The dogs are depressed and sitting in a silent, light less, prison waiting until someone shows. The floors are wet, and the dogs are locked in cages and are only walked once a day, if that. The dogs do not have any play time nor a sense of home while being locked in those cages for 24 hours a days. I HAVE LITERALLY SEEN A YOUNG LADY RAN INTO THE HOSPITAL, bawling her eyes out, CARRYING HER LIFELESS DOG IN HER HANDS AND DESPERATELY NEEDING ASSISTANCE. Zero would be appropriate.  I'll put it this way, we left before we began.  It was glaringly obvious when we pulled up that this was not where we would be letting someone examine our dog, not even for free.  We gave it a chance and walked in.  When the vet came out, he was covered in filth and looked clueless.  It was a hint to run away as fast as possible.  Anything he would say, would not be something we would take into consideration anyway.  Feel free to check it out for yourself, but beware.  To anyone that's ever owned an animal and been to veterinarian's office before, you realize you're not in Oz anymore real quick.  Check out Friendship Hospital.  They are a little more expensive but really did a great job when we had our last dog.  We plan to return with our new dog, even if they're not on the "free vet visit" list received from the shelter. Dr. Roy has always taken excellent care of our precious Alpha and beloved Remy (RIP) Morris. He try to prolong Remy's life by giving her meds for pain she was with us 15 1/2 years. When it was time to put her to sleep we knew and so Dr. Roy. The doctor and his assistance Janet gave us our time and space to say our good byes to Remy and finally she was put to sleep. Dr Roy Janet and Josehia were very compassionate. Actually Dr. Roy went a step further during the holidays of 2016 we went to Puerto Rico to spend some time with my family but we were sad because we understood that Remy didn't have much longer. Admittedly I was unsure about this place. However, I've left my kitty here a few times. The staff seems to really love the animals. The dr. is busy and may seem to be a bit stern & short with you, but will accommodate you as best as he can. He seems a bit stern but I can tell he loves animals. I've taken my pet here three times after adopting him from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. The first visit was a free complimentary check-in, during which time I submitted all of his health information and filled out several forms to enroll him. The front desk people are very nice, patient people, but Dr. Ross is extremely rude and unprofessional. Every time I interacted with him, he  cut me off mid-sentence and was very impatient and condescending to me. He did an incomplete job removing the suture's from my cat's eye, which led to my cat trying to scratch the remainders out himself. I ended up needing to take him to their hospital afterwards, where he stayed for three hours to repair the damage. When I called back a month later, they had lost ALL paperwork and electronic records of my check-ins. All of it, including the medical records they had previously copied. The doctor was very rude when I tried to work out this issue and recover the paperwork. I hate the way they handle my cat, as well. I'm never going back. I don't recommend them, either. Read Less

I have recently moved in to the area with my dog. Shannon a German Shepard, had an emergency on a Sunday. I called Ambassador Animal Hospital and they promptly asked me to come in with Shannon. Shannon had a gushing wound on belly area. Ambassador staff were excellent and very efficient. They did radio-graph, etc. They repaired the wound, Shannon was sent home on pain medications, antibiotics, and bandaged belly area. I would strongly recommend this Vet. I give them a 5 star. i have never dealt with this place and never would yet out of the blue they start sending me cards (cheap post cards) that my pets ned vaccines and grooming.  i dont know them and never would use them.  think that this is a scam and wonder why they couldnt even get my name right on their cheap mailings!!  maybe this will teach you not to send out unsolicited mailings. Got my dog groomed here and she was cut nice but there was one too many nicks on her. I've counted about 4 so far. They also would not offer any discount what so ever. I started taking my dog to Ambassador when I moved back to this area based on a recommendation from my mother, who has been to a few vets in the area and really prefers Ambassador. They are professional and kind to both me and my "baby". I like the way Dr. Roy provides you with the information and lets you make a decision, rather than being pushy, and I've never felt like he's recommending a course of action just for the money (e.g. "I think this lump is fine, and if it was my dog I'd just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't start growing. But if you're losing sleep over it I can remove it. It's your call"). He seems to care about the health of the animals under his care. The facilities aren't fancy and shiny, but it's clean and functional, which is what matters.Read Less

Dr. Roy is my 6 year old dachshund's primary care vet. Ambassador is super close to my house in DTSS, is much less expensive that other vets, and takes good care of my pup when he's being boarded. When May had fleas they were not able to fix it. When picking may up I was told she had a flea bath and they were gone. Ha, while in the car the fleas were jumping all over the place on her and in her carrier. I had to take her back over several time for it to be fixed & each time I came they wanted to charge me for things she needed after they didn't fix the problem in the first place. My cat had a cut on her nose and was bleeding a lot.  Dr. Roy saw us right away as there was NO ONE there at 5 pm on a Thursday night.  He tried to convince me to do 500 bucks worth of tests, which I declined.  But when I left he gave me a bill for 200 bucks for seeing the cat which was 60 bucks and 140 in imaginary services.  We were only there for 10 minutes.  He refused to tell me prices up front.  We ended up in a screaming match where he said I had no integrity because I was questioning his bill.  Roy said he would tell everyone that I was a deadbeat on facebook because I wouldn't pay what he demanded.  He looked at the cat sure, dabbed some gauze at the cut in the nose and sent us on our way.  He didn't do anything worth 200 bucks.  No stitches or anything.  I would have given him the 60 but he said how he didn't need my money.  So he called me disgusting and walked away.The facility is a dump.  Smells and no one will go.  But Roy said  he had so many clients and everyone loved him that I was the problem.  I said, then why did he care what I thought.  But after reading all the reviews, clearly that is not the case.  Oh and he didn't even stop the bleeding like he said he did.  The cat was still bleeding when we left.  So truly he did nothing. If YELP would allow zero 's I would do so.  How do these people continue to exist??!!I brought my dog here for a cut in the paw. Before they even examined him they told me to sign an agreement that I would pay them over a thousand $, leave him overnight and agree to the risk associated with putting him asleep during the procedure.  I walked right out and took him to a holistic vet who prescribed a poultice with wrap to be changed daily.  He recovered beautifully in less time & trauma than the recommended stitches at a fraction of the cost that Ambassador quoted.BEWARE of vets that only recommend surgery. ALSO, if they try to sell u a special "prescription" diet be aware they are likely being paid by a powerful conglomerate. Ingredients usually include high glycemic CORN which often leads to obesity and diabetes. Not to mention the lack of nutrition needed for an animal to thrive.If the diet consists of meat BYPRODUCTS, this is what is not fit for human consumption, not to mention MEAT from WHERE & WHAT. Any kind of meat byproducts are low in nutrition, i.e. Chicken etc. If one is interested in a quality diet google dogfoodadvisor.  One can likely find a quality diet for less money than what these powerful conglomerates who invest tons of $$$$ in marketing. When choosing a vet ask about nutritional knowledge. Call me crazy, but I believe the cornerstone of good health is a nutritional diet, exercise and of course genetics.Also beware of pushing needless vaccinations.  Most pets get all they need in the first year.  If u need proof of immunity get a Titer test. Stay as far away from this place as you can.  I have had so many negative experiences at this point - I am the idiot for continuing to give them my money.  The staff at the facility tend to be nice, which gives customers a false sense that the place provides good service. Don't let that fool you. The negative experiences totally outweigh any smiles that you get from the staff.  First, the facility stinks in unimaginable ways. I wonder if the staff just gets used to sitting there with the horrible odor so they can't smell it anymore. The facility looks like it was established in the 70's and it has not been been updated since. There is only one vet here and he has the nastiest manner that I have ever quite seen in a human being. This seems to be no longer a "labor of love" for this vet, he seems miserable and it shows all over his face. I have been boarding my two dogs, one large size and one miniature size here for a few years. I have returned to get my big dog and she had poop smeared all over her backside. They informed me that I "hadn't called in advance" to let them know I was picking her up. I imagine that if I had called, they would have quickly pulled her out of the cage after leaving her there and hosed off the poop. Almost killed my 6 year old dog. I decided to switch vets and it was the best decision. The first day I brought my dog to the new vet I found out my dog was diabetic & was suffering for a long time. Ambassador never* reviewed my dogs blood work and luckily now I have my dog on the right medication. All ambassador did was drug my dog with pain killers and they laughed in my face about it. A few years ago, after relocating to the area with my cat, she started having fits of sneezing, wheezing, coughing uncontrollably for 5-10 minutes at time. She's my baby and my first pet, and I knew as an older cat she had been lucky to avoid any problems up to that point. So after frantically googling around for the nearest vet, we found Ambassador and made the earliest appointment possible. I REALLY regret not doing more research on this place. Dr. Roy had terrible "bedside" manner with her, and didn't believe us when we described her symptoms. Luckily, my husband had a recording of one of her episodes on his phone, but Dr. Roy brusquely told us it could be a number of things, without specifying what any of those things where. After poking at her for maybe a minute more, he prescribed a few heavy steroids without explanation as to why and told us to call back if that didn't diminish her symptoms in a week. Thus began a two-month-long dance of different steroid dosages and him dodging our questions and requests to narrow down possibly diagnoses. He would try to pressure us into expensive diagnostic tests all the while refusing to tell us what he was looking for. We tried to explain many times that we had a tight budget (my husband was a student and I was an intern) and we felt uncomfortable just throwing money at him without some context, but he in turn took us on a heavy guilt trip for not spending the money on her.We finally gave up at two months when her weekly dose of a "new" steroids turned out to be one of the same medications we started with. Do not go here if you're ever in need of that final service (i.e., having your pet put to sleep). My cat was dying (heart failure), and I went to them to help keep her from suffering more. I had no set vet and was at my wits end. The process was AWFUL in ways I cannot describe and not just because I was saying "goodbye" to my cat. For example, the vet never even asked her name and spent all his time talking about prices and the disposal of the body. No one even asked me what was wrong with her. It wasn't until after the procedure that someone happened to ask how old she was. Granted, I was a crying mess by that point. It was traumatic. I could have overlooked the dinginess of the place if they had treated my cat with compassion. They just shaved her, pricked her, and told me the invoice was up front whenever I was ready to pay. I only went here because I need a vet with a USDA certification to administer a Pet Passport. If they hadn't had this, I would have left before the appt. But oh how they made me miss my competent, intelligent vets and vet techs on the left coast.When I showed up, there was one other car in the parking lot, no one in the waiting room, and no one at reception, but there was one dog peeking out of a room. After waiting for a bit, a dismissive and totally uninterested vet tech came out and mumbled something about how they were so busy. Really? No, really???Since she didn't seem to want to help me, I told her I was there for my appt. She didn't respond. I then told her I would wait out front on the grass if that was ok. She barely looked at me. When I wandered back in 5 minutes later, she finally acknowledged me and asked me to fill out paperwork. Fine. I filled it out. Then about 4 other clients came in with their dogs. I sat there for over half an hour past my appt. time as they were all served. What? When Dr. Roy finally saw me, I knew more than he did about the regulations. I am not in the vet industry, nor the pet travel industry, nor any industry remotely related to animal care, but come on! This set me on edge. I had to argue with him about what the regulations were now and what documentation and procedures my pets needed to move internationally. I had all the printed out documentation from the State Veterinarian and the UK website. I actually handed him a copy. He then disappeared for a while - probably to educate himself! When he came back, he brought with him the only redeeming feature of this pet hospital - a different vet tech. She was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Had it not been for her, I might have left right then.Anyway, to microchip and give a rabies vaccine to 2 dogs, it took them 1.5 hours. That's insane. I just went there with my dog. The waiting & exam rooms are dingy and need to be painted. Doesn't look clean. The exam room smelled of urine (albeit faintly). The groomer (we just went for nail trimming) didn't seem confident at all when clipping the dog's nails. This made our already nervous (and securely muzzled) dog even more anxious. One of the clips drew blood. The clippers seemed blunt as the nail shards weren't coming away cleanly. The charge was $23 which is really high for just nail clipping. But she was quite nice, so that's good. When leaving I asked where I could get some water for my dog. Surely they would have water, right? No. They don't have water. Read Less

My experience at Ambassador has been wonderful-- totally different than the other reviews here. I foster dogs through the county shelter and receive a discounted rate at Ambassador, so I have taken several fosters there over the past year. I have always found the staff and the doctor to be very polite, pleasant, and attentive. Dr. Roy is very kind to my animals, always remembers them even long after they have moved from my home into a forever-home, and seems to have a genuine interest in their well-being.I have also boarded dogs there, and they have always come back happy, tired, and smelling fresh.And as another bonus, it's easy to get an appointment on short notice, and the hours are broad enough that I can go in the evening after getting home from work. please DO NOT go to this vet unless you don't care about your pet. the staff there is very nice however dr. roy has no idea what he is doing. i thought he seemed a little unprofessional and insensitive the first couple of times i visited with my now 1 yr old chihuahua but just thought maybe there was a language barrier and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. however now i've come to realize the man is just ignorant. i took my dog for a vaccine update and nail trim and he came back with 4 bloody nails. i have been everywhere from petsmart to other vets around the area for nails and never ever has this happened. not once. and then when i asked him about it he acted as though i didn't know what i was talking about and made me pay the $23 fee anyway. needless to say i left crying. if you don't care about animals then maybe you shouldn't be a vet. Unless you really like being treated like an idiot, repeatedly shaken down for cash, being on the receiving end of a nonsensical/completely unethical verbal tirade, or guilt-tripped into various unnecessary procedures to "save your pet", avoid this place like the Plague. The only person at this place (I refuse to call it a hospital, as to not insult actual buildings where competent physicians work and treat patients - animal or human - and their families with respect)  that seemed to genuinely care about our dog's well-being was the orderly that helped us bring him in and out of the building when he was too weak to walk. Despite those random acts of kindness, there isn't anything about this place that makes it fit to care for animals.The head vet is only after your money, and every bit of his "medical advice" comes with a hefty price tag attached (which he will repeat multiple times, just in case it wasn't annoying enough the first time around.)  Silver Spring residents, I know this place is in a convenient location, but if you truly love your pets, PLEASE spend the extra time and research some other place in the area to have them treated. I was absolutely amazed by the rates at this vet for a routine procedure, charging 300% more than other vets I've visited. At $60 per dog for an anal gland expression it's highway robbery!I've had each of these guys groomed, expressed, nails trimmed and teeth brushed for the same cost. The vet I take them to in Dale City (I LOVE Dr. Stuart Morse) charges nothing near this amount and I've come across rates ranging from $5 - $40. Despite the convenience due to proximity to my house, there's nothing special to come back to/compensate ridiculous rates. Read Less
