I need to tell the story of my cat, Mongo, in order for people to understand why I am giving them a bad review. Our cats went to Ashland Animal Hospital for many, many years. About 3-5 years ago, our cat, Mongo, was very ill. I'm estimating the time. We rushed him right in and told them to do whatever they had to do. Of course we had a budget...which they took advantage of. Before I continue I want to warn everyone that no matter where you bring your animals, NEVER tell the vets how much money you have. They'll ask you that. Not "how much can you spend."  They'll ask "well how much do you have now." So with that said, here it goes. We never knew what was wrong with Mongo. They did an insane amount of X-rays. You'd think after the first 2 that maybe they'd see something. But no. If my memory serves me well, it was 5-6 X-rays. After being at the hospital all day on IV fluids and getting antibiotics and blood work, they had no answers from the tests they did. Because of that, they told we NEEDED to do an ultrasound, more X-rays and maybe an overnight. This was very traumatic. After almost $2,000, they had no idea what was wrong with him. They said MAYBE an obstruction, but all of the tests were inconclusive. So we decided to bring him home with us. He was still weak. If he got to that "point", we'd take him to the 24 hour hospital. On our way home I was crying and confused. I stopped at a local convenient store and bought a regular can of wet food. I opened the cat crate and opened the can. Mongo jumped out and started to eat like nothing ever happened to him. Literally ate the whole can (which I usually don't allow), and then sat on my lap. I called my boyfriend immediately and he was SO HAPPY. We kept a close eye on him the entire week. I can honestly say it was a miracle. I called the vet and they told us to bring him back. He was basically on his death bed and they were very concerned. We ignored them completely. I think we can all agree that we know our fur babies. I can say with a huge smile on my face that he's happy and doing extremely well. Here is where I will tell you why I think this place is HORRIBLE and UNETHICAL. This past Tuesday, September 24th, Mongo's mother, Mama, fell very ill. One minute she was okay and the next she wasn't. We have been seeing Slade Veterinarians in Framingham since 2016. Since Mama hadn't been there, I myself needed to call Ashland to have them fax her files over. I don't know who I spoke with on the phone. I told them who I was and who my cat was. I told the woman that Mama was extremely sick and I needed that file to be faxed as fast as they could. Knowing what I just told her, the woman said, and I'm paraphrasing "okay, well I see here that you owe $71 and we're going to need that as soon as you can."  REALLY????? I'm in the middle of Slades office, 2 receptionists about 3 patients and Mama basically dying. Then this nasty woman is discussing my past due balance!!!!! I was mortified! I was too upset to be mad at the time. I refused to talk about my past due balance as I was focusing on helping Mama. Unfortunately she passed away the next day. They think it was a tumor that was growing at a rapid pace. I'm glad we brought her when we did. She didn't suffer. Slades office was so compassionate and helped us with every single thing we needed. Ashland on the other hand didn't give a rats butt what was going on with Mama or what Jon and I we're going through. I am so disgusted with them. I hope and pray that no one has to deal with this kind of situation. You know your animal(s). You may be like us and go to the vets when needed. Or you take your fur babies to the vets once a year. We're all different. But what they did with Mongo was a shame. I'm glad we brought him and we would and did do everything for him. To us, it was about the money at the time. Doesn't look like we were wrong. God only knows how much we spent those couple days. I was painfully reminded of that the day before Mama died. If we had a $71 balance and they needed it quick, why no phone calls? We are taking about a bill from 3-5 years ago!!! No notices in the mail or any calls. Nothing. But when I have a dying cat and I'm at a new hospital, they really need that money. What happened to compassion? Why couldn't they bite their tongue and maybe call us a week or two later? Why did it have to be at that moment? HEARTLESS. I will make sure that everyone I know that has animals NOT GO THERE!!! Not ever. We will never forgive them for what they did. And I will be speaking with the highest person I can regarding this situation. I hope this helps at least one person. Stay very far away from Ashland Animal Hospital! Read Less

I've had two visits to AAH this year with my cat; one for a vet visit and diagnosis and the second to say goodbye to her a few months later. I had two different doctors and both were absolutely fantastic. Recently, when we had to have Tessa put down, the friendliness and understanding they demonstrated was very appreciated, and when the time came, I couldn't have asked for a nicer, sweeter, and more supportive group of professionals. Everyone from the receptionist who asked another patient to move their appointment for us to the technician who had a tear in her eye as we talked about my cat to the doctor who offered to share as much or as little as I wanted to know and stayed with us, petting Tessa as she went on her journey. This is a great place that truly knows your pet is a huge part of your life, and they will care for them (and you). To top it all off, they sent us a "sorry for your loss" card a few days later. When the time comes to get a new kitty, AAH will be where we go for any of their needs. Read Less

I recently moved to Ashland and had my dogs seen at this vet. First visit: one of my dogs is severely sensitive to topical medications and I communicated this to both the vet and the front staff (who apparently sell the meds). I was sold topical meds.... could have harmed my dog had he ingested them. Second visit was a follow-up to required vaccinations; I was told to come in anytime. I show up and and am told I need an appointment. That's fine but when I bring up the two instances of miscommunication the staff are defensive and rude. I am told the service there is great rather than listen to my concerns. I am also told that it is my fault that I purchased the topical meds. When I left one of the front staff said "whatever!" Not a compassionate serving staff that want to resolve issues and concerns... they don't want to listen and learn from their clients. They don't care. I don't care to ever go back or recommend them either. Read Less

We have owned 4 dogs in our 20 yr marriage, and all of them have gone or go to Ashland Animal Hospital. They are very in tuned to our 10 yr old golden's anxiety when visiting the vet. They welcomed our new rescue pup. When our then 4 yr old lab got systematic lymphoma, we chose not to go with the chemo route as he would not have been cured. When he could no long walk and was in bad pain we chose to let him go. Our teens accompanied us to AAH when the time came to say goodbye to Comet. Any vet visit is always expensive, but these guys are willing to work with you. I called them and told them I was a little strapped for cash and that my dog needed treatment for an ear infection. They didn't pressure me into anything, they just broke things down so that I could only get what I needed and worked to get me the essential things at a lower cost. Dishonest and not reputable!  We had been bringing our cats to Ashland Animal Hospital for the past 2 years and Dr. Geoffrey Kardon had been a great vet!  However for our past appointment,  they asked us to bring in a fecal sample.  We brought it in, Dr. Geoffrey Kardon performed he's typical examination of our cat Calvin and we paid our normal $110 exam fee.  A couple days later we received an additional bill for $26 for a lab fee...I called to question it since at no point did anyone ever mention anything about an associated lab fee.  They indicated they made an error and forgot to tell us about the fee - I responded, "no worries, I assume you be able to waive the fee for us for this one time since we were not aware."  The manager Jen was not only unwilling to wave the fee, she was completely rude about and disrespectful to me in regards to the whole situation.   I was totally appalled at her reaction, we had spent thousands of dollars at Ashland Animal  Hospital and she wasn't willing to "eat $26!?."  It honestly wasn't even about the money, it was about the principle.  We will never bring our animals there again, and if you're looking for a repeatable, honest business, I suggest you don't either! I don't have a whole lot to compare it to as I've only had one pet and one vet.  I've been going there since 2006 with my cat.  I am not picky and do not request a specific vet so I usually get a different one every year.  They are very clean, though, and their prices are reasonable.  They send out a newsletter every month with helpful information.  They also have a pet food store/pharmacy on site and they can accommodate you outside the normal 9-5 hours.  I've never had problems with them.  One time I did have to take my cat in for an emergency and even still the cost of the procedures wasn't too bad.  My cat is good with them and they are good with her so I have not felt a need to go elsewhere. The Ashland Animal Hospital has taken care of our 2 generations of cats and dogs from 8 week old puppies and kittens through old age. The wonderful staff, from the women at the front desk to the techs to the doctors, have all been consistently professional, competent, accessable and compassionate. Because of their medical expertise, our animals have survived Lyme and tick disease, Parvo disease, kidney disease, vomiting, diarrhea, arthritis, strokes and problems associated with old age. Most impressive are the vets abilities to diagnose a problem and find solutions when others might give up. Our labs have lived to 14 years old due to the care and advice from Ashland Animal Hospital. 5 star rating!

The compassion, respect and love they showed our family will forever keep us customers.Read Less

I was blown away with how helpful the staff is. I have also called them and requested refills on prescriptions and they are very easy to work with. I have been to several vets and Ashland Animal Hospital is the best by a long shot. Read Less

Dr Bob Davis and his staff have provided the most loving and advanced medical treatment and general vet services to all of our animals over the past 20 years. We consider him part of the family, as do our animals from our Doby's, & Vizsla's to our Siamese & Labradoodle. He and his staff consistently offer us helpful medical advice and guidance with compassion and understanding. When we are traveling away from home and have to visit another vet we call him for a second opinion and consult and he is always there for us and our animals. There is no one more dedicated. Read Less
