Love this practice. It really is the best, I recommend it to everyone that is withing an hour drive. Both Vets are very knowledgeable and kind and caring. They really love what they do!  I have two dogs, that are my babies, and it took us a few vets prior to BANH to find the perfect fit. We spayed my girl around Christmas time, because we wanted to be able to have time off to make sure she healed, and vets were in touch with us on christmas eve, christmas and afterwards. This is a very efficient and friendly practice in a beautiful new setting at Cummings center.  This practice is great with followup, always has the meds available with 24 hours notice.  My cat has thyroid/kidney problems and Drs Ricketts and Crowley have worked together to care for him.  They gave me all the medical options available, and supported my decisions.  Great docs, great front desk staff. I took my 2 cats Ms. Leo-Kitty and Isis here before they relocated to Cat Heaven, and now my girls Tadarra and Miyarka get to play with wonderful Dr. Crowley and her most capable vet techs Kim, Olivia and Kate. When I become a first-time dog owner soon, naturally this will be my dog's vet! I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. The practice is a holistic one and Dr. Crowley is also a homeopath. If she's not available, I see Dr. Ricketts, who's great as well. I've been coming here for about 10 years. When Ms. Leo-Kitty got slapped with the hopeless "chronic renal failure" diagnosis, I refused to give up, and sought out a practice that considered the ENTIRE animal, just as I do with myself, and expect from my personal health care practitioners. I received a huge awakening with regard to nutrition, on-the-spot moving from dry to wet food, a HUGE contributor to this somewhat preventable illness!!!!! WHO KNEW? My previous vet had apprised me of nothing, sigh. She was nice enough but that's hardly sufficient when it comes to health CARE, which should be overwhelmingly preventative.Seeing Dr. Crowley yesterday, I have renewed vigor for doing my part in their dental care, another enormous area where prevention is key. I got some poultry-flavored toothpaste into one of them this morning, a first step. Yum. I just read in the most recent newsletter - she is an ardent EDUCATOR- that she considers herself a dental geek. I LOVE this, and can't wait until I earn being able to call myself a lay version of same. Yesterday we also discussed my adding a dog to my household. I didn't expect the conversation to be so extensive, but I should have; she's always so thorough and TAKES THE TIME. Now I know where I will adopt my likely pitbull, because the rescue she recommended, like her, considers all facets of the animal and "vets" them thoroughly. Ha ha.  Our furbabies depend on us. Prior dogs (10 of them -- we are old) were seen by vets in California, NH, or Angell Memorial in Boston.  This year we moved to the North Shore and took my son-in-law's advice:  BANHC.  We have been extremely pleased.  They are exceedingly thorough, smart, caring, attentive to detail and go far beyond shots and stool samples.  Dr. Ricketts has made excellent suggestions about training our new puppy.  It's not that we are unfamiliar with dogs, but my husband is 90.  Practical suggestions and contacts are invaluable.  I've met only two of the women who work at the front office.  Both were excellent.  Yesterday one worked us in for an appointment late in the day -- with a smile -- because we had to miss our scheduled appointment. I found the front office to be rude and unhelpful.  They even refused to pass on a simple message.  Then when returning a call we were told that the individual was not in the office, she was, no idea why someone would leave a message and not want a response.  Very odd.   Either very bad management or more probably reflective of the nature of the owners.   I don't know about you but I want to be treat first by a Veterinarian and not a Tech and certainly not a receptionist (Tech are usually not consider skilled but trained on the job, some have unrelated degrees and just like animals, other might have a certificate, but as many Vets have told us there is high turn over and people move on).   O and we want our Veterinarian to care about our animal and us.  We understand that is not always in the skill set of people but in that case maybe dealing with the public, clients is not the best fit. We have been bringing our animals here for about 20 years. We love Drs. Crowley, Ricketts, Kim, Katie, Jenna, and everyone who has been so kind to us. If we missed anyone it is because we cannot recall all the names of all the angels at BANHC. We will never be able to express the trust we have in this wonderful place. Our pets have lived long and wonderful lives and when it was time to cross the rainbow bridge they did so comfortably and peacefully. I can't say enough about Dr. Crowley and her staff. They've been very responsive when I deemed my dog's issue as urgent. She's patient and loving with my dogs, even with the overly-excited one who spends the whole visit trying to leap off the examining table and run around the room!! Constant Miscommunication. I have been taking my pets here for almost five years. One positive is that they are open to alternative treatments, and don't just try to medicate everything, which I appreciate. However, I often feel the two vets miscommunicate with me and eachother. They have "Call in time" which is about 20 minutes a day, only giving them enough time to talk to a couple patients, and are therefor rushed on the phone and come across as insensitive. One vet, in particular, constantly seems like she just can't be bothered, although is better via email. On multiple occasions I have paid for a visit where I was rushed through and left still not understanding what was going on with my pet nor how to fix the problem. It seems they are charging me for almost nothing. One vet will tell me one thing, another vet will tell me another. If there is any discrepency, they claim they "Have it in their notes" as if their notes are right, I am wrong, end of story. It is so frustrating and I just want to shout, "Take better notes! Communicate better with each other and with your patience!" I only have my few pets, I am not dealing with hundreds of pets, therefor, it is much easier for me to remember specifics of one conversation about animals. They don't take this into consideration and are instead argumentative and demeaning. The only reason I continue going to them is out of geographical proximity making them the most convenient but I often go to another vet for any bigger issues with my pets, other than a checkup. I have many friends in the area who have tried this place and have had the same experience. In fact, many have expressed they feel this vet's main priority is money, rather than helping people and animals. I would hate to think this true, but, they should really make some improvements so people don't feel this way. Read Less

What a wonderful place with awesome staff. Dr. Crowley is the BEST! She was thorough, calm, happy to answer questions and started us on a path of least resistance (aka least expensive and invasive). We worked with her team for laser therapy for a lame Carolina dog and we are making significant progress. All of the vet techs are wonderful, the front desk crew are on point. When our thirteen year old Tibetan Terrier, Simon, was diagnosed with lymphoma in early September, we consulted with Dr. Crowley after seeing our local veterinarian. She examined him thoroughly, understood our rejection of chemotherapy, and suggested various alternatives ways we could care for Simon. We did the best we could for our companion, yet lost him last week. Whether you are looking for a traditional or an alternative veterinarian, we believe Dr. Crowley to be professional as well as compassionate.
