Please don’t take your pets here!!! The doctor was very rude to me as he didn’t introduce himself and was very unprofessional. He was also rough in the examination and had another lady (who also did not say a single word to me) forcefully hold my dog down. He cried throughout the whole thing and they were very uncareful with his legs. We had to tell them multiple times that they were being crushed. My dog was only a few months old and it didn’t seem like they knew how to deal with puppies. I felt very uncomfortable and worried throughout the whole visit. If google allowed me to give them zero stars I would. Read Less

I have been taking my two dog here for quite some time. Every time I go the bill is over 450.00. Even for simple things. The staff and doctors take very little time with my pets and are often rude. I showed the bill to 4 other vets in the area for my last visit. They charged me over $250 for a medication that all the others sell for less an 60.00. Their diagnosis was also wrong. DO NOT GO HERE. Dr. Sawyers has the worst bedside manner of any medical professional I’ve ever met (coming from a soon-to-be-doctor who is constantly surrounded by them). I regret not following my gut and not listening to the many bad reviews I read on him. From the second I walked in a year ago, he was condescending and disrespectful. At first, I thought he didn’t respect my opinion because I am a woman. Conversations with other pet owners at the dog park revealed that he is disrespectful to men as well (if that’s any comfort), but people tolerate him because he’s the closest vet to them. He has no interest in shared decision making or explaining one’s clinical reasoning. On top of belittling his customers for asking about his clinical reasoning, he makes sexist comments about women’s bodies and prescribing them a glass of red wine when they are reasonably worried about their sick animals. Despite my year-long frustrations, and against my better judgment, I begrudgingly sought him out one last time today to see if test results from a Vetco poop test were enough to get a prescription to treat Giardia. I knew that I was coming in only 20 minutes before the clinic closed, and as a reasonable human I intended only to inquire, not make demands, but without even asking me for details of my question he came out of the back exclaiming loudly that he “can’t just give me a prescription without test results and I can’t expect him to jeopardize his license.” Had he not jumped to conclusions, and had he asked me about what documentation I had, we could have discussed that. His terrible ego (perhaps he was angry that I had taken my dog to Vetco to avoid him) and attitude pushed me over the edge and I yelled several of the things I have written above. I regret losing my temper in front of his staff, but I had dealt with a year of his disrespectful nonsense and I knew I would never set foot in that office again. If you respect yourself and your animals I would not recommend bringing them here. Read Less

I do not recommend this Animal Hospital. I left an appointment today for my puppy and never have felt more disrespected in my life. The veterinarian was very rude and condescending and would not listen or watch a video showing the problem my dog is having. My puppy is terrified to walk outside after a recent move to a new apartment. Over the past three months, his fears have been getting worse. His tail is between his legs, he pulls, lays down, and shakes. We tried to have our trainer walk our dog to make it fun for him. When the trainer returned to our apartment he said he was concerned about him and recommends a veterinarian visit to assess our dog's anxiety. It was very important to me that the vet watched a video of our dog outside to provide his professional opinion. He refused to watch the video and refused to talk to the trainer while rolling his eyes. He also proceeded to say he does not care what the trainer had to say. As a Pediatric Registered Nurse, I know the importance of treating patients with the utmost respect and the significance of therapeutic communication. I also know the importance of collaborating with other professionals and parents for the benefit of the patient. As a result of this veterinarian's large ego, my dog will be suffering from anxiety until we find a new veterinarian. I will not be returning to this Animal Hospital and I do not recommend it. I also attached a picture I found on their Facebook after someone left this Animal Hospital a bad review. They told the customer, "you were and are worthless" after their cat died and had a complaint regarding the cremation process. In my opinion, that is no way to treat a customer, even if you disagree with them. This is completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Read Less

I can't believe I haven't written anything on this place yet.   I've been taking my english bulldog, Newman, there for about a year and a half and I couldn't be happier.     They treat him like he was one of their own.  Everyone is super friendly, and you can tell they love what they do.  In addition, they are very knowledgeable and I trust Newman with them completely.Thankfully, we don't have too many problems but when we do, the staff is always right there to help.   They are quick to give us advice over the phone to determine whether we should even bring him in, which I appreciate since vet appointments generally are not cheap.   And when we do need to bring him in, they are very gentle and sensitive and make things as painless as possible. Their appointment process is very easy, and I generally will just book a time online.   They send out regular reminders on shots and heartworm refills, which I appreciate since I would never remember that stuff on my own.   I know there are other vets in the area, but I have no reason to try anyone else.  They do a fantastic job. I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr Sawyers and his entire staff at EBAH. We've been to them for regular check ups as well as emergencies. They've always been kind, informative and generally concerned for our cats. The most recent visit brought us in with our cat Rico who had developed some coughing and wheezing. I called in the morning to make a visit and they offered a time in the afternoon (and earlier if it seemed like an emergency). My husband took Rico in that afternoon. Dr Sawyers took one look in Rico's mouth and snapped into action so quickly my husband was amazed. It turns out my darling cat (who likes to eat anything and everything) had tried to eat a threaded needle which had lodged in his throat. Dr Sawyers removed the needle that minute under anesthesia (I am so grateful that EBAH has an OR right at their facility). My husband called and told me what had happened after it was obvious that Rico was safe. It didn't even occur to me to ask what the visit had cost. I was just so happy to know Rico was safe. When I got home that night I asked the cost of the visit (fearing it would be crazy knowing anesthesia was used). It was so reasonable I had to ask my husband to repeat himself. I'm really surprised to hear people say EBAH is after people's money. I suspect they may have an unrealistic idea of what a visit should cost. Either way, I'm so very happy with the level of care and the cost. We're so lucky to have found them. Read Less

The definition of a sociopath is, essentially, one who sees no consequence to others, on ones self.Meet James "Call me Doc" Sawyer. This man will screw you out of every penny he can while oozing sleazy -so-charming-, we're a big family here, crap all over you.I sat for 35 minutes in his waiting room and watched a Spanish-speaking woman with 3 small kids totally taken advantage of; the dog was dehydrated from diarrhea, they quoted her $780.When she said they could not afford that much she was quite plainly told that she should have taken care of the dog and this would not have happened, and then, in front of her children, she was told the dog was going to die if they didn't do as "Doc" recommended.Nice.My problem here is that MY dog, I was told, had been to Constitution Beach as well (true), and had apparently picked up the "same thing that disgusting little shih tzu had".{"But she shouldn't have had a dog in the first place" and 'It would be lucky if it lived".}Then I was told to give my dog some canned pumpkin, and feed her ground beef and rice for 3 days.WTF?!?!THEN I was charged $178 for the experienced.I can honestly say that I paid $170 for the advice and purchased that mans integrity for $8.Shame on you James Sawyer. You're full of canine feces, sir. i took my cat to this hospital in an emergency situation because it was the closest vet that had an emergency appointment available. the staff was incredibly rude on the phone--i got lost on my way and was having a panic attack because my cat was near death, and the receptionist/vet tech actually said: well, we close at five. ""we close at five""?! my child was about to die, and she didnt even offer to give me directions! so, the no parking thing freaked me out as well. i had to carry my sick baby across a bridge in my arms with a train roaring underneath. only one vet tech was actually human and acknowledged my presence. the only redeeming part of this is the vet: DOC SAWYERS IS AWESOME. i dont know if he is the doc mentioned in the other review who offered cloning (he is a bit eccentric), but he was kind, gentle, comforting, and stayed late on a friday night/holiday weekend (and went in on new year's) to do emergency surgery on my cat, check in on him, perform follow-up care, and keep me informed by phone the entire weekend of my cat's status. he is the only reason i would return here. if i am able to find out whether he works at another clinic, i would go there instead of east boston, but for now i'll stick with him because he is my baby's savior. suggestion: ignore the other staff, ask for doc sawyers, and give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not even going to mention the fact that this man offers pet CLONING. Oops, too late. But even besides that atrocity against nature, this is still just a terrible, terrible place. The staff is really cold and uncaring. I just get the feeling that they try to extort all the money they can out of every single person who walks through their doors. People are supposed to be able to trust doctors, human and animal. How do they know if their cat needs a feline leukemia shot or not? Mine doesn't. He's tested negative, doesn't go outside and has no exposure whatsoever to any other cat. Don't put unnecessary poisons into my cat while CHARGING me for it. Ridiculous. I've heard a lot worse about this place then I've actually experienced, but I definitely wouldn't go back to see what else could happen. I'm actually surprised that place is still in business with the prices he charges, the attitudes of everyone who works there and the general vibe of the place. It feels like a monster hospital. Read Less
