I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Baker. He is so extremely kind, caring, and compassionate and truly one of a kind vet and person. Experiencing the loss of two beloved Persian cats in just two years, I would not want to have anyone else there helping me through this excruciating pain. He is truly gifted at what he does and I am so thankful for him and the entire team at South Bay Vet who has been so patient with me over the past week in dealing with this huge loss in my life. I recently brought my new adult cat to South Bay Veterinary Group. The veterinarian asked me to assist by holding the cat during her examination. My cat got angry or must have felt threatened and bit my hand between the pointer finger and thumb rather deeply. Despite this I was charged for the appointment ($160), and no one followed up to check about my wound. I'm disappointed that I was asked to assist the veterinarian rather than staff members, and that if this company has so much compassion for animals, you would hope that they might extend that to the individuals bringing the animals in for care. We used South Bay's office on Charles Street mostly. The staff at Charles Street have always been friendly, accommodating and very fast. Our pup has a slight heart murmur and the vets were GREAT about educating us about his condition and giving us direction if needed (vs. our last vet who told us our dog was going to die any day). Our dog is three now and in great health. When our dog, Grant was fixed, he stayed over night at the Tremont street location and since he was the only pup staying over night the staff took turns visiting throughout the night/early morning, even bringing in their dogs to keep ours company. Unfortunately we moved out of Boston and need to find a new and local vet. I hope this review helps any reader make a decision on veterinary services. I couldn't think of a better group of people to entrust with our dog. Read Less

We have been taking our dogs to the South Bay Veterinary Group for about seven years and generally happy with the service, but when one of dogs was injured recently and we called to see if he could be seen or at least get some advice I was appalled at the lack of concern and overall demeanor. We were told they could not see him until the following week and that was it. No guidance. No referral or recommendation. They did not listen to his injury. Just nope, no room and good luck. When I told her that our dogs had been patients for a long time and that I expected a bit more concern, she said she could ask the vet to call us back, but it would be hours and they'd say the same thing: no appointments and they don't offer advice over the phone. Needless to say, we will not be taking our dogs back. Very disappointed. Read Less

These bad reviews are nonsense. Every doctor that has ever cared for one of my Italian Greyhounds was absolutely everything but rude or careless. It is my own observation that the only rude and careless people are the demanding, righteous, and impatient humans that come to drop off or pick up their precious animals. I think it's absurd that any of you are perfectly happy to patiently wait in line for an inflated cup of coffee, and then have an attitude with a receptionist at the vet because she's handed you a bill for your baby's health care. I diligently read all the reviews I could find before choosing a vet for our new puppy, and despite a few negative ones settled on South Bay because there were so many positive ones. On the first visit when I handed the vet a letter from our breeder on helpful things particular to my dog's breed, the vet didn't handle it well - very ungraciously giving me a lecture and saying that when my breeder goes to vet school then she'll consider her advice. As a brand new client, I was taken aback to say the least, and left feeling like a scolded kindergartner. While the vet was lecturing, she was also giving our puppy meds without explaining to us what they were for or what she was doing. On our second visit, a different vet noticed our puppy had a hernia, and commented that this could be potentially serious, and said the first vet should have noticed it on her initial exam. I guess she was too busy getting riled up by the breeder letter. On other visits my follow-up questions were never handled with the time, care and concern I would have liked, but rather answers were given with the sort of tired but rushed rendition that made me feel like these cookie-cutter responses were without thought to my specific case, and given in a hurried manner to get me out before the next appointment arrived. On most visits the staff was curt but not rude, until a few months later when my puppy had an emergency and I called for advice. The receptionist said they had no openings and my only choices were to wait until the next day or take the puppy to Angel. All I wanted to do was describe my situation to the vet and get some advice. The receptionist at first refused to get the vet on the line, saying she wasn't going to be able to offer me anything more than what I'd just been told. After I very curtly asked to speak to the vet, she reluctantly got someone (but not without giving me attitude first!). I immediately called another local vet, who went out of their way to see me that afternoon. I had my puppy records transferred and will not be going back! The second vet is a little more expensive, but they spent an hour and a half with me on short notice and went out of their way to make sure my puppy was ok. Read Less

I go back and forth between Boston and Los Angeles, so my dog has two vets. Each are competent, but both Dr. Wosko and Constantino (and Giraflaco before them) are superior: they spend A LOT of time explaining all options and exploring all possibilities. My dog's vet in L.A. is, it must be said, considerably cheaper, but also much, much faster. At South Bay you really get terrific attention. Also, for quick follow-up questions they are terrific about returning phone calls. Highly recommended Read Less

With regard to prior comments: My pets have been patients here (or at Charles Street) for twenty five years. My youngest dog is thirteen years old so I can't say if I paid a new patient fee for any of my three dogs or two cats at South Bay. I assume that I did because it seems like an eminently reasonable practice. I can say that when I recenly had to put one of my dogs to sleep there was no charge. I don't know if that is their standard practice or if they simply did it out of compassion for me. Needless to say I was very upset and to pull out my credit card at the end was something I was glad not to do. With regard to missing a diagnosis, pediatricians and vets frequently have the same problem: they can't communicate with their patients. This makes diagnosis extremely difficult. The fact that they allegedly missed one at South Bay doesn't seem like adequate reason to trash the practice. In twenty five years I have never been treated other than with courtesy and compassion at South Bay. Read Less

They seem like an extraordinary vet and have exceptional references, BUT What is this $55 dollar new pet fee? Am I the only one who finds this unusual? I have to pay money so that I can have the privilege of being THEIR CUSTOMER? Is this a hedge fund, and they're guaranteeing a 20% extended life expectancy. Is this Sam's Club and they're going to provide bulk medical discounts? I mean this is ridiculous. No doctor that operates on actual humans pulls this nonsense, yet they find this completely acceptable. Also, even though they have AVAILABILITY, and my pug is sick and needs to see someone immediately, they require a 2 week waiting period to consult new patients. Seriously this place is a joke. I don't know what kind of professionals set these requirements on their practice. Please give you money to more worthy practices. I have two chihuahuas, one older and a new puppy. I had taken my older one to a different vet earlier on before I found South Bay Group. Now that I'm bringing my new one to South Bay and going through all the puppy things there, I am completely impressed. My little one recently got neutered and comparing both experiences, I was totally comforted, impressed and happy with the outcome. He had the tiniest little incision that healed perfectly in just a little over a week and he was never in any pain. The sutures were perfect and inside, as my poor older dog had gotten metal staples that fell out the next day when he got neutered at the other vet. All in all, top notch service with extremely caring and professional doctors. I would recommend to ANYONE with pets!! Read Less

I love this clinic! I have been bringing my dogs in for the last two years, and the office is at a great location, clean and professional. I used to live in upstate New York, and what a difference in care! This clinic can handle anything: My dog even goes in for ultrasounds! My partner has been going to this clinic for the last 10 years, and he agrees. Definately ask for Dr. Constantino or Dr Wosko, as they are the best! If you need to speak with a technician, ask for Liz or Kelly, they are the smartest and nicest to work with. Try to avoid anyone with a facial piercing...no offense, they just seem young and not as knowlegable, but I believe they are just receptionists. My only problem ever has been was with a rude and not knowledgable staff person named Alivia who REFUSED to ask the doctor a question for me (and instead talked at the front desk about her wedding to another client), but she is easily avoidable.

Read Less

I've been bringing my two dogs to South Bay for almost 10 years now. I've moved several times and I did try out other vets on two occasions and decided I would never bother with any other place again. No one compares to the quality of care and love that every single doctor and front desk staff at South Bay provides. We are happy to see anyone because my little guys are always treated with patience, care and love. No matter how far I live, I'll always make the commute!

Get over yourselves.Read Less

GREAT CLINIC!!! Take your pets there! Read Less

I have been bringing my dogs to South Bay for over 10 years and have had nothing but good experiences. I usually see Dr. Constantino (who is excellent) and have occasionally seen Dr. Wosko who is also very competent. They have done check-ups, vaccinations, teeth cleanings and one leg surgery on my pups and have had successful results every time. I would highly recommend them. As for them being cold? (see previous review) I have found them to be very friendly and compassionate. Not cold at all.
