Love it here! The staff is knowledgeable, honest and they are more than reasonable on their fees. By my second visit all of the staff knew my dogs name. I've had negative experiences with vets closer to me and I came in weary. They give you education instead of telling you what to do and they genuinely care about your pet. I've been going to Family Friend Vet since 2011. I had my 3 Shar Pei  dogs back then. The practice of professional vets and staff are the only place I'll take my dogs. They have been caring, compassionate, loving to my fur babies and my family. I left a horrible practice after 10 years of misery to Family Friends Vet. My wife has been bringing the dog to this vet for mediocre care for years and we've paid thousands in bills over time. A $200 bill in my wife's name went late while she was dealing with a family tragedy . The vet refuses to take payment now after multiple calls (some not even returned) to them to do so but instead decide to unleash the rabid hounds of collection. Their guys use absolutely shocking, abusive language and make threatening and harassing calls such that we filed 2 complaints with Consumer Financial Protection agency. These guys conjure up images of guys with baseball bats coming to collect, calling work numbers and refusing to send me a bill when I asked for it. My wife truly was disturbed and distraught by them so of course wanted to pay the vet, wouldn't you? Here's the point - Don't waste your time on a "community" vet that has no desire to work with you to resolve a relatively simple matter despite the years of "relationship" and thousands invested. I agree with all the other reviews. We've been taking our cavalier there for 8 years now. Dr. Bleck was originally recommended because he has "good ears" (i.e., good at picking out possible heart murmurs that are common in the breed). They are all very good at their jobs as well as having all the other characteristics that are important to a pet owner (knowledgeable, caring, available, cost appropriate, and so on). Read Less

I would just like to say that Dr. Bleck is Oscar Mayers vet... he is amazing, always gives you the time you need to ask questions, never quick to rush you out. The most caring and professional veterinary care that our dogs have ever had.My wife and I have had five dogs and Dr. Bleck has cared for three of them. Dr. Bleck and his team worked tirelessly to treat Betsy, our first dog he cared for, when she got Addison's Disease, and he helped us tremendously when she got cancer by guiding us through this painful process.  He now cares for Trinny, who is thirteen years old and Dakota, who is four years old. I love my dogs, as they are truly my babies. Family Friends are THE BEST place to bring your loved ones. The Dr's and the staff treat your babies as you would treat them. We are there often because my dogs are 15 years old. However, thanks to Family Friends, Sugar and Spice will be around for a long time. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. They're amazing! They treat your pets as their own and make sure they do all they can for our furry family members. They know most- if not all of their clients names and even though my cat has had a couple of battles with cancer, they have kept her as happy and healthy as possible and at 20 years old, she still runs around and plays with our puppy. Dr Baigelman was very knowledgeable and extremely good with my dog. She instantly liked the staff and him. I really liked that he is current on all the research and not trying to sell you exspensive foods. Come to find out only a small fraction of dogs are allergic to their food which I'd been told to put my dog on different food at other vets. Great experience and very reasonable. It was a relief that he went ahead and gave my dog a Benadryl shot with another routine shot since she has bad reactions to certain shots. I am picky who I take my pup to and will definetly be back! Dr Baigelman was great with my pup and was great at explaining things. You can tell he stays current on research and truly cares about your pet. I'm picky who I take my pup to after her having some bad reactions to some shots and as a preventative he gave her a Benadryl shot just in case with a routine shot. Dr. Bleck has been the veterinarian for my cats for years - even before he opened Family Friends. He is outstanding; his diagnostics and approach to caring for my cats is second to none. His staff is also amazing. When I have had to travel, I have boarded cats that have had serious health issues and know that they are in good hands - receiving the best medical care as well as a healthy dose of TLC. Dr. Bleck is not one for running gratuitous tests, he only runs what makes sense, explaining to you what he is looking for and then thorough explains the results when he gets them back. I took my dog to this practice on the recommendation of a business associate.  The care seemed adequate, but I never got a true sense of caring and compassion that I had had with other vets.  Turns out the vet (who was an associate of Dr. Bleck and has since left the practice) misdiagnosed my dog's cancer -- chalked it up to colitis or other minor stomach ailment.  We lost several months and in the end, a mass was detected (with the obligatory "I'm sorry").  My dog underwent surgery at Tufts and has survived a year.  I have since moved out of Massachusetts, and fortunately, my dog is under the care of an amazing oncologist who is giving her top-notch care.  To add insult to injury, the practice refused to authorize a refill of my dog's flea/tick/heartworm medication from an online pharmacy because (in their minds), my dog was due for a heartworm test.  I arranged for the refill with my new vet, but it took time that seemed unnecessary.  Under the circumstances, Family Friends could have accommodated me for one refill (all I asked for).  I received a flat-out "no," even when I practically begged.  It was a really crummy thing to do, particularly after missing the tumor.  In my mind, authorizing the refill was the least they could have done for me.  Clearly, it was all about the money -- they weren't going to profit from a visit because I had moved out of state.  The behavior was shameful.  There are many other excellent veterinary practices in the Acton/Boxborough area.  Go to one of them. Let me start by saying I don't have much experience with vets as I never had pets growing up. I got my first dog a few months ago and brought him to Family Friends for his first physical, some vaccines, and to get fixed. I chose Family Friends based on several online positive reviews and its proximity to where we live. So far, I have been very impressed by the quality of the care our puppy has received. The staff are caring and compassionate and Dr. Baigelman has been fabulous with our dog and has patiently and thoroughly addressed all of our concerns and questions. He even personally called me the day after my dog's surgery to follow up, which I'd bet is pretty uncommon. These guys really seem to love and care for your dog just as any owner would want them to. It's a small office with a homey, personal feel. There might be some fancier, higher-tech places out there; honestly I don't know and don't care. We have been going to Stu for over 10 years. I don't know what other vets charge, but I always feel my furry family members get the best attention and care from Stu and Staff. So well worth the investment if he is a bit more. Having a pet with an ongoing illness, Stu always lets us know what the cost will be so we can determine if we want to go forward with tests. He also helps us understand the benefit as well as pros and cons. He takes time to review XRays, blood tests etc in great detail so we understand our pet's status. We first met Dr. Bleck when he was working elsewhere, before he opened up Family Friends. He stood head and shoulders above the other vets in the other practice, and we would always request Stu when we were taking our dog in. Since Stu opened Family Friends, we would travel over half hour, through several towns, to get to his new office. I wouldn't consider taking my dogs to see any one else. We would pass multiple other veterinary offices on the way, but never in my wildest dreams would I take my dogs to another vet. Stu is very knowledgeable, helpful, and caring. He loved my dogs almost as much as I did. He took the time to get to know them, and my whole family. My dogs would kiss him and really LOVED going to the vet. They couldn't wait to get out of the car and go into the office. The office staff and all the veterninary techs were also helpful and personable, and they too had a great rapport with my dogs. Both of my Boston Terriers have had peculiar health problems that were difficult to diagnose (seizure disorders in both dogs, and food allergies in one) but Stu stuck with it and helped us figure out what was wrong. He always provided my pets with the best healthcare. On more than one occasion, he would call us at home to check up on my dogs, including times when he was not in the office, and even one time when I had to take my dog to a veterinary ophthalmologist for eye surgery. My dog hadn't even been in to see Stu, but he knew she was having surgery at a specialist, so he called to check up on her! He really and truly cares about pets and has their best interests at heart. The prices charged at Family Friends are reasonable, and they never performed procedures that were unnecessary. On the contrary, they would try to find ways for me to save money. The veterninary techs or office staff would always help me carry bags and cases of dog food out to my car. On occasion when I would just head over to the office to pick up food and wasn't taking my dog in for something else as well, if she was waiting for me in the car, the techs and office staff would come out to the car just to say hi to my dog. Serously! They loved my dog! After taking my dogs to Dr. Bleck for about 16 years, we had to move out of state. I literally cried when we left Family Friends the last time, because I knew would miss them all so much, and I knew I would never find such an amazing vet anywhere else. I've been taking my dog to Dr. Bleck at Family Friends since I adopted her 2 and half years ago. I chose him because he was the vet that examined and treated her when she was given up to the rescue organization and they recommended him. I'm so glad! He is by no means the closest vet to where I live but he and his entire staff are worth the drive from Concord. He is warm, understanding, GREAT with the animals and owners alike, carefully explains treatment options and costs and makes follow up calls himself. Read Less

Both vets are fabulous! I know Dr. Bleck best, but wouldn't hesitate to have an appointment with either. The front desk staff are personable, knowledgeable, and always helpful. The Vet Techs know their stuff, and everyone there loves animals and their owners. They'll know you and your pet by name in a flash. They never over charge and they don't perform needless procedures. I have been taking my pets here for 10+ years. Stu Bleck has as great a repore with people as he does with his patients. I've been to other clinics and now they may have improved but I never found any better than Family Friends. Unbelievable but my dogs actually LIKE coming here? Dr Bleck has a special way with animals and truly cares...but I just cant figure out how they actually pull to get into the front door! and kiss him! even thought they get needle, poked and prodded. All the staff is fantastic. Read Less

He really is a nice guy and his vet techs are super too! We love taking our dog to the kennel here. He used to go to other kennels and he would come home with a cold. We've been taking him here for a few years and he doesn't fight us when we drop him off.
