Brockton Animal Hospital was recommended to me from a family member. I had already been to 2 other consultations on my dogs luxating patella and was told she needed nose and mouth surgery (?) Other reviewers had the same exp where they were told their dogs needed extra stuff done(dedham vet). I will admit I am hard to please when it comes to my dogs. The level of care provided by BAH was impressive! All of the staff members are amazing. They have great communication so you never feel like someone dropped the ball. They will answer all (ALLLL) of your questions  and dont BS you about anything. They are upfront and honest people that truely care about the well being of your animals! I went to Brockton Animal Hospital for my puppy Charlie's exams and vaccinations. All of the staff there were very friendly and excited to Charlie every time he came in. We saw Dr. Smolka for his exams. She was super friendly, great with Charlie, and very helpful with all my questions and concerns. My parents took our German shepherd Athena here and I know take my Manchester Terrier Jasper. They are great with the animals very patient, kind and understand to both the pets and their owners. They take the time to listen to you and thoroughly explain everything from what they think the diagnoses is to what it could be. They also give you lots of info on things your pet may need and things to help you better afford to take care of your pet. They don't force anything on you just simply explain your options and their opinion of it. When we put Athena down they were very gentle with her and us. They gave us the time to say goodbye and to grieve once it was done. I wouldn't take my animals anywhere else. Read Less

I have brought my animals to Brockton Animal Hospital for over 28 years now. I appreciate the vast knowledge that the veterinarians have and their ability to diagnose what illness, disease or medical issue my pet is having usually without a lot of expensive testing. I have had many pets that have had complicated surgical or medicall issues the kinds of issues that are not common. These veterinarians have performed miracles surgically for my animals on more than one occassion. They are knowledgeable and up to date on current treatments and protocols and have modern equipment including laser therapy that has helped many animals. The staff is alway professional and friendly. I have never had a bad experience. They answer their phones and get back to you in a timely manner if necessary. I have always been very impressed with the way they treat my animals. I did move further away from their office but I continue to commute as I trust them with the care of my animals. When you find a great doctor with a great staff you stick with them because exceptional service and trust is hard to find these days. They really care about their clients and it shows. Read Less

Brockton Animal Hospital is THE absolute best place you can take your furry family member! They treat all pets ('clients') with love, attention and such care. Before finding BAH, our dog was diagnosed with luxating patella, and I wanted to get second and third opinions before I moved ahead with any type of procedure. LLoyd's (our previous vet) jumped from A to Z in their diagnosis and never followed up with me; they also prescribed pills to her which were unnecessary. When I stumbled upon Dr. Hirschberg's office - my puppy and I immediately received the utmost respect and attention. I emailed Dr. Hirschberg with my concerns and in less than two hours he got right back to me- via email and a follow-up call. He spoke to me about alternative methods to surgery, and that we may as well try those before jumping right into a procedure. When we met with Dr. Hirschberg, he really helped us to understand our dog's diagnosis, walking us through the potential procedure; and explained everything in detail so we could understand thoroughly. Our dog LOVED Dr. Hirschberg and his staff instantly - which is quite a rarity since she is scared of most things! We went ahead with Dr. Hirschberg's plan and tried laser/light therapy which did seem to help a bit (Lloyds NEVER even mentioned this pre-surgery method), and it drastically helped during our dog's recovery time after the procedure. Before the procedure, Dr. Hirschberg calmed all of our fears and gave us specific details for what to expect before/during and after our dog's surgery - this was extremely helpful! Dr. Hirshberg and the staff would call to find out how our dog's recovery was going, and each time when we brought her in they truly cared about her well-being. I honestly can't say enough great things about BAH and would recommend them to EVERYONE who wants great, honest and thorough care for their pet. We will never go anywhere else! Recently my first visit was with my 15 year cat Romeo who was very ill. Everyone was so kind to us. I had to make the difficult decision to have my cat euthanized and all of the staff treated my cat like royalty. Even though my heart was broken they all made me feel that I had made the right decision. A few days later I received a sympathy card in the mail from Brockton Animal Hospital! My dog was limping for longer than I thought for just a minor bruise or strain. Brought him to the vet we always used, the VCA in Weymouth. We weren't big fans of the place because we know they are over priced but it's so close to our house. They took him for the day and examined and X rayed him. They called my wife later in the day and told her he tore his ACL in both of his hind legs. Said the surgeries would be at least $2400 per leg. They tried to get her to schedule them right then but she was freaked out and called me. I picked up our pup and told them I'm getting a second opinion. I brought him to Brockton Animal because I lived in Brockton and had brought pets here in the past and knew they were very reasonable and honest. After examining him the doctor said it's only his back left leg and the procedure was almost half the cost. Needless to say I was pretty upset. We only go to Brockton now regardless of travel. Our dogs are much more comfortable there there and you can tell the Vets really love animals. I can only imagine what the VCA would have done if we booked the surgeries with them...would they cut open his good leg and sew it up to make it look like they did something? These places are operating unchecked and are getting away with it. We need accountability in this field as it is getting more and more expensive and out of hand. I would like to write a fair review based on my experience, so I will start off by saying that I had an emergency and could not get into my regular vet and they saw us right away. My cat was having a medical emergency and they took good care of my cat (which was obviously the main goal)! I was very disappointed with the behavior of some of the support staff. Dr. Hirsberg did call me to try to smooth things over but the comment that was made, to me, by a staff member was so rude and condescending that it is unforgiveable and I would never return to this pet hospital! I've been very impressed with the Brockton Animal Hospital and drove all the way from Boston to bring my dog to see him. I was referred to Dr. Hirschberg because he is one of the few vets in Massachusetts who specializes about laser therapy for dogs suffering from joint disease and hip dysplasia.  He was completely up front with me and said, "I think this has a 80% chance of working for your dog and let's try three visits, and if it doesn't we'll move onto other options."  I appreciated his honesty and respect for not wasting money. But what even impressed me more was his willingness to listen and look at the big picture of my pet's health history, and really want to explore to see if other factors would be contributing to his problems.  I also appreciated his not wanting to immediately say, "Do an expensive surgery on your dog!"  Which some vets may push right away. He is open to exploring options and really making sure my dog had the right diagnosis and also is getting the right kind of care.  His level of care and compassion is A+. Read Less

I had to bring my chocolate lab to the vet because he started crying in pain and limping out of nowhere. I called around to all the vets in the Brockton area. I went as far as calling places in Weymouth and Braintree too.. No one would see him that day except this place. All the other places were telling me to bring my dog to an ER. This place not only found the time to see him the same day I called, but they saved me money too! It would've been over $100 just to walk into an ER! I'll be bringing my lab here regularly now. My puppy had a leg injury and after seeing my vet and getting some confusing advice I sought out an expert.  Brockton Animal Hospital was highly recommended to me.  I took my dog there and it was absolutely the right thing to do.  The vets she saw at Brockton Animal Hospital took great pains to explain everything to me so I could choose the right treatment option (not the most expensive option as the previous vet had done). They also had the most advanced treatments available (lazer) for my dog's condition which enabled her to heal at a greatly accelerated rate.  And they treated my dog as if she was their own. From the moment we walked in the door she was treated beautifully. I highly recommend Brockton Animal Hospital.  The staff (all of them) are knowledgable on the latest procedures, the treatment was exceptional, and the result was a happy and healthy dog.  What more could you ask for? My parents took our pets to Brockton Animal Hospital and I now carry on the tradition. I no longer live close, but the quality of care is worth the trip. The doctors took care of my dog after he ate a basket and had to have exploratory surgery, and when he developed an antibiotic resistant infection. Recently when my dog became moppy and withdrawn, he was diagnosed with anaplasmosis, a less common tick borne disease. Most often I have seen Dr. Hirschberg and Dr. Huffenus, but the doctors are all knowledgeable and understanding. The staff is great in accommodating my schedule and always friendly and caring.
