I have been bringing my dog to Burlington Animal Clinic for a little over three years now, and have been incredibly impressed by the care that we have received.  My dog use to be okay going to the vet, but after visits every few weeks over a six month period for recurrent ear infections my dog started to act up.  Dr. Hanson was wonderful as we went through the ear infections, offering multiple approaches and avoiding expensive lab tests until we really needed them, while she and the staff were putting up with an increasingly agitated dog.  After that was resolved she worked with me to find an allergy medication to help prevent recurrence of the ear infections.  She and the techs were all willing to work with my crazy dog for as long they could before we needed to start medicating her for visits, and gradually increased the dosage of the medications so that we were giving her the bare minimum she needed for it to be effective.  Even when my dog acts like the world is ending over nothing (probably a kind way to put her absurd behavior), they always show her love and compassion.   Dr. Hanson is also incredibly responsive to emails, and provides excellent education about available options.  I don't know anyone else who is able to communicate so easily and directly with their vet, when I was worried about my dog on a Saturday evening she exchanged multiple emails with me that night.  She has shown great compassion towards my husband and I when we are worried about our dog. I think it is rare to find someone who can work well with both animals and humans. Burlington Animal Clinic has a slightly different feel than other places, it is smaller, more personal, and a more relaxed environment. But if you want individualized care, an experienced vet, and excellent staff (the front desk staff and techs are all amazing) and someone who is easy to communicate with, this is the place to go. Until I had an issue I was happy going there. I started going to Dr. Hanson in 2013 with my 2 dogs after reading all the positive reviews online.   My dog started limping so I brought him in to be checked.  Dr. Hanson put him on Rimadyl to see if the swelling would go down and if it didn't she would x-ray.  She DID NOT inform me of the potential adverse reactions to Rimadyl. It is a highly prescribed drug with great benefits but you MUST be aware of the side effects which can be severe enough to cause death.  Long story short, I attended a weekend event out of state, my dog had serious reactions and ended up in emergency.  After incurring almost $2K in hospital bills I asked Dr. Hanson to perform some follow up blood tests to save me some money with this ongoing situation.  She got defensive when I said my dog's condition was from the Rimadyl.  I paid the approx$350 for blood tests and was also charged for the office visit.  I really thought Dr. Hanson could have waived the office visit fee seeing this was from medication she prescribed.   I called her to express my thoughts and she became quite irate telling me a dog is a luxury, she doesn't work for nothing, everyone has to pay their bills, etc. Sometimes a bit of compassion for a situation goes a long way.  The conversation ended with Dr. Hanson telling me to find myself a new vet.  My dog ended up needing ACL surgery (with the Rimadyl situation the entire cost was over $7K) but he is back to himself and doing fine now!   akc.org/content/health/a…  doghealthpanel.com/rimad… Read Less

This place is a complete SCAM. I took my cat 4 months ago for an annual check up. This was the first time I had brought him to this vet as we (me and the cat) were living in a different country. I felt like my cat was traumatized enough for the day so I told them I would come back later for the distemper shot. They told me I could call and reschedule. Well, I made an appointment with them and took time out of work to do so. When I get there, after waiting 15 minutes, I was brought into the room and the nice assistant asked if I was there for an annual. I said no, I was just scheduling his distemper shot. Dr. Hanson hid behind a wall while making her assistant tell me that my cat had to have another annual exam, if I wanted my cat to get his distemper shot. When I declined the annual exam, as the exam is every YEAR, and not every 4 months, Dr Hanson came out behind the wall throwing around the fact that she was the doctor and she insisted on another annual before she gave my cat the distemper shot. When I told her my cat just had an annual 4 months prior, she told me "no, he came in on a sick visit". NO HE DIDN'T as I was charged the $54.00 for the annual (which consisted of her looking at him and touching his stomach, not even taking his temperature). I can see if I was a new client and Dr. Hanson never had revised my cat before however, this wasn't the case. She saw my cat 4 months ago!! I even called other clinics in the area to see what their policy was and they confirmed that if a relationship was already established between the animal and the vet, and the animal just had an annual 4 months ago, then, it shouldn't be necessary to charge for another annual visit. I didn't have a good feeling the first time I went but I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt because of so many good reviews. Well, I'm extremely disappointed and will never go back. She is a CON ARTIST, not a vet. Read Less

One star is generous for this review. Too bad zero stars isnt an option. I went to this vet for a year. Every time i went in, she spent 10 minutes with my dog, called him 'crazy' (a name she calls animals to seem more relatable...and EVERY animal at that...) and sent me home with a (totally useless and incorrect) medication. Turns out he had lyme disease that entire time, which she MISSED. The vets at the mspca diagnosed and treated the lyme disease, but by the time a vet with half a brain could find it, the damage had been done. It had reached his brain stem. My dog was wobbling back and forth, even sitting still. Kathleen said it was back pain. When i suggested that it could be more serious, and mentioned the diagnosis from the other vet, she stormed into the exam room where i was with a nurse (joke), and proceeded to get so flustered and angry that she said, AND I QUOTE: "You may be happier at another practice. Maybe go back to that vet. Because it doesnt seem that you have much money to spend on your dog. Youre no longer welcome at this practice." After a visit to a family-referred vet and the care of 2 specialists, my dog was able to live 6 more months, and i cherish every moment of that time. However, Kathleen stole from me in the worst way i could imagine. She stole time from my dog's life.Is this someone who cares about dogs or anyone but themselves? The answer is no. This woman wants your money. Period. If you love your pet, RUN!!!!!!!! Read Less

I just went in for my first visit with Dr. Hanson at Burlington Animal Hospital and I have to say, I'm so glad I found her.  I have vets in the family that can't care for my animals due to distance anymore, so I have a really high bar when it comes to what I expect from a vet.  I was so pleased to find this clinic.  Dr. Hanson's staff were welcoming and efficient, I appreciate that Dr. Hanson took pictures of my animals so she's able to better diagnose over time, as well as getting down on the floor to examine my dogs.  ALWAYS a sign of a good vet.  She was knowledgeable, spent time getting to know my animals, and has a calming touch.  I almost don't want to give her such a good review to keep her a hidden gem, but as an animal person, it's important to share the word when you find someone good to take care of other animals.  I've had appointments with few other clinics in the area and they never felt quite right.  This feels like a patient/dr relationship I'll have for the rest of my time in Burlington. We have had to interact with everyone on Dr Hanson's staff, Colleen, Andrea, Carolyn and Lisa, and they have all been just great. We have had a relationship with the clinic ever since we first got our pup after she was born. Dr Hanson has guided us in a very practical and effective way to care for our pup. We've always had all our questions answered and you get the feeling you are in good hands with sound medical advice when it come to your pet's health at this clinic. Carolyn and Lisa at the front desk have been super helpful answering questions and returning calls promptly when the doc is busy. Read Less

This place is a complete SCAM. I took my cat 4 months ago for an annual check up. This was the first time I had brought him to this vet as we (me and the cat) were living in a different country. I felt like my cat was traumatized enough for the day so I told them I would come back later for the distemper shot. They told me I could call and reschedule.Well, I made an appointment with them and took time out of work to do so. This place was recommended to us by a few people and I'm glad we went with a recommendation for a vet a little out of our way over somewhere closer to where we live. It seems they have the best interest for animals in mind, they do not over charge or insist on extras that your pet doesn't need. Also, the doctor is very accessible, available by email and is very responsive. Would recommend to anyone! Read Less

I love this animal clinic. Dr. Hanson is caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable.  I take my two dogs and cat to her. One of my dogs is very nervous around new people and places, but he loves everyone at the clinic. My cat is a jerk, they handle him with professionalism and care. If they can remain calm and kind while dealing with him, they can handle anything!I love that it is a small practice and I know I will be seeing the same Doctor each time.

Extremely professional, yet extremely welcoming and nurturing. That's an apt description for Dr. Hanson and her staff. Colleen and Andrea are very patient for being young techs and have not complained about our boisterous and sometimes too fidgety pup. Glad to have found this place for our very first pet.Read Less
